Companies Using SiteLock
SiteLock is a website security service, sold directly and through web hosts, and the part of it you can see on a page is the trust seal: a badge loaded from shield.sitelock.com that should show the site's name and "Passed". Our October 2026 crawl finds a seal on 5,303 domains, but when we asked SiteLock's seal server about each one in mid-October, 2,575 had no live record behind them. This page counts the other 2,728 live domains. Below is the list of companies that use SiteLock, with size, country and industry, including the Brazilian newspaper O Povo, Kenya Women Microfinance Bank and the University of Hargeisa.
On that cleaned count SiteLock ranks 6th of 18 in WAF & DDoS Protection with a 1.14% share. The base is very small business: 70.3% of matched companies have 1 to 10 staff. Two channels stand out. 647 of the live domains use IONOS nameservers, and IONOS includes SiteLock's basic scan, seal included, in its hosting; and 420 are insurance-agency sites built on EZLynx. Seals on Bluehost, HostGator and similar hosts were the likeliest to be dead, 988 of 1,381, and Bluehost and HostGator have since stopped selling SiteLock.

SiteLock Usage Statistics
The chart has one point: 2,728 live domains in October 2026. Our earlier monthly totals counted every SiteLock seal on a page, including the 1,989 whose seal server now returns a blank image, so they aren't comparable and we don't chart them. Counts also move because the set of domains we crawl turns over every month, with dead sites dropping out and new ones added, and because our detection widens. Since tracking began on 16 March 2026, 720 domains removed the seal from a hostname; 83 of them still show it on another.

Which Countries Use SiteLock the Most?
Which countries use SiteLock the most? The United States, with 805 of the 2,035 companies we matched, then Germany (338), the United Kingdom (143), Brazil (114) and Spain (106). Germany's place comes from hosting: of the 349 live .de domains, 320 use IONOS or Strato nameservers. India (52), Mexico (21), Japan (16) and Colombia (15) also make the top 15.
Share of the 2,035 SiteLock domains we matched to a company record — 74.6% of the 2,728 we detect. Top 15 countries shown, so these do not sum to 100%. Domains with no matching company record are not represented here and skew small and independent.
SiteLock Market Share Among WAF & DDoS Protection
What is SiteLock's market share? On the cleaned count, 1.14% of WAF & DDoS Protection, 6th of the 18 technologies we track there, based on our crawl at TechnologyChecker.io. The table isn't like for like. Sucuri (94,053 domains), DDoS-Guard (91,034) and Imperva (28,777) are detected from the firewall or proxy itself, while SiteLock is detected from a seal on the page. Variti's 3,620 look mostly like sites on Tilda, whose servers sit behind Variti's proxy, rather than Variti customers.
Top Competitors by Market Share
SiteLock Customers by Company Size & Age
What size companies use SiteLock? Very small ones. 70.3% of matched companies with a known size have 1 to 10 staff and 21.82% have 11 to 50, so over nine in ten have fewer than 51. Only 21 have more than 500 employees. That fits a product many customers meet through their hosting provider rather than through a security purchase.
Company Size Distribution
Company Age (Founded Decade)
Most of the companies are 2000s and 2010s businesses: 37.02% were founded in the 2010s and 25.85% in the 2000s. Older firms are a smaller tail, with 5.04% founded before 1960, among them the Brazilian newspaper O Povo (1928) and PHI Learning, the Indian publisher (1963). Only 7.12% date from the 2020s.
What Industries Use SiteLock the Most?
Insurance leads at 16.86%, more than four times the next industry, IT services and consulting (3.67%), based on our enriched company data. The reason is one software vendor. 271 of the 280 insurance companies we matched run their website on EZLynx, the insurance-agency software maker, and most are small US agencies. Outside insurance the spread is flat: business consulting (3.49%), construction (2.89%) and retail (2.59%).
Insurance agencies using SiteLock are mostly independent US agencies on EZLynx-built sites, plus brokers abroad such as Lacson & Lacson in Manila. Health care providers with a SiteLock seal include Lotus Eye Hospital in Coimbatore and Clínica San Lorenzo in Brazil, and banks and lenders using SiteLock include Kenya Women Microfinance Bank, TTK Banka in Skopje and Mercantile Investments and Finance in Colombo.
SiteLock Alternatives & Competitors
The rows above SiteLock measure a different thing. Sucuri (94,053 domains) and Imperva (28,777) are counted from their firewall in front of the site, and DDoS-Guard (91,034) from its proxy; SiteLock is counted from its seal. 72 SiteLock domains also show Sucuri, and 163 show Imperva, whose network SiteLock's own firewall runs on, so read the table as services that often sit side by side.
| Technology | Domains | Market Share |
|---|---|---|
| 94,053 | 39.23% | |
| 91,034 | 37.97% | |
| 28,777 | 12% | |
| 3,620 | 1.51% |
SiteLock Customer Migration
Tech Stack of SiteLock-Powered Websites
Percentages are of the 2,728 live domains. WordPress runs on 50.48% and Elementor on 15.18%, with Joomla at 4.22%, so this is mostly small CMS sites. Apache serves 52.64%, often a sign of shared hosting, and Cloudflare sits in front of 11.58%. Google Analytics is on 57.55%. 163 of these domains also sit behind Imperva's network, which SiteLock's own firewall runs on, so many of them are probably paying for SiteLock's firewall as well as the seal.

How We Counted SiteLock Customers
A domain counts here when a page on it shows SiteLock's trust seal: an image from shield.sitelock.com inside a link to SiteLock's verification page. Our crawl found that seal on 5,310 live domains; our for-sale and gambling title filter removed 7. On 15 and 16 October 2026 we checked the remaining 5,303. For each one we loaded the homepage, read the domain name written into the seal's address, and asked shield.sitelock.com for it. A name SiteLock holds a record for gets an image reading "SiteLock SECURE, Passed" with that day's date (the date is when the image is drawn, not when a scan ran). A name with no record gets a blank one-pixel image, and SiteLock's verify page for it redirects to sitelock.com's homepage.
We removed 2,575 domains in three groups. 1,989 showed a seal whose record was gone. 405 showed no seal we could see on the homepage and had no record under their own name or its www version. 181 showed a working seal that named a different domain while their own name had no record; three Town Square Energy domains, for example, carry townsquareenergy.com's seal. Rechecking 40 random blank seals a second time brought none back. In a random sample of 50, 14 seals were blank, 3 domains had no seal and no record, 2 showed another domain's seal, and 31 stayed in.
That leaves 2,728, and every chart and table on this page uses them. One limit applies to all of them: the seal server also answers "Passed" for names such as google.com, example.com and bbc.co.uk, so a live seal means SiteLock holds a record for that name, not that a paid scan ran. Where the domains sit matters too. Of 1,381 domains on Bluehost, HostGator, iPage, Network Solutions, HostMonster, webhostbox, JustHost or FatCow nameservers, 988 were removed; of 685 on IONOS nameservers, 38 were, and IONOS includes SiteLock's basic scan in its hosting. Our earlier monthly totals counted every seal, which is why the usage chart starts in October 2026. Our WAF & DDoS Protection category table also listed SiteLock at 5,343 before this correction.
Expert Analysis: SiteLock Growth Trends & Key Signals for Sales Teams in 2026

I expected a trust-seal page to need some cleaning. I didn't expect to throw out half of it. Our October 2026 crawl finds a SiteLock seal on 5,303 domains, and when we asked SiteLock's own seal server about each one on 15 and 16 October, 2,575 pointed at no live record. The other 2,728 live domains, 2,035 of them matched to a company, are what this page is about. Two things decide who is in that number: which host sold the site its SiteLock, and whether the plan is still running.
Half the seals point at nothing
A SiteLock seal is an image the page loads from shield.sitelock.com with the site's name in the address. If SiteLock holds a record for that name, it draws a badge that reads "Passed" with the current date; if not, it sends back a blank one-pixel image. 1,989 seals were blank, 405 domains showed no seal we could see and had no record, and 181 showed a working seal for some other domain. In a random 50, 14 seals were blank (28%). One caution on the other side: the seal server answers "Passed" for any name it knows, google.com included, so a live seal means SiteLock holds a record, not that someone paid for a scan this month.
Sales signal: a seal on a page is a weak buying signal. Only a seal that still answers says the account exists, which is why this list keeps those alone.
One reading, and the exits
The usage chart has one point, October 2026, because our earlier monthly totals counted every seal, blank ones included. Counts also shift because the domains we crawl turn over every month and our detection widens, so I wouldn't read a trend into any of it yet. What we can count is exits: 720 domains took the seal off a hostname since 16 March 2026, and 83 of those still show it on another.
"More than a third of the SiteLock seals we found point at records that no longer exist. When the plan ends, the badge turns into a blank image, and nobody takes it down." - Sophie Clarke, Product Marketing Manager at TechnologyChecker.io
Sales signal: blank seals are a list of their own. Most of those 1,989 sites once had a SiteLock record that has since ended, many of them on hosts that stopped selling SiteLock, which makes them warm prospects for any scanner or firewall sold to small sites.
The host decides
I grouped all 5,303 domains by nameserver, a fair proxy for the host. Domains on Bluehost, HostGator (US and Brazil), iPage, Network Solutions, HostMonster, webhostbox, JustHost and FatCow nameservers numbered 1,381, and 988 of them (71.5%) failed the check. IONOS was the opposite: 685 domains, only 38 removed. IONOS says its free basic Site Scan, provided by SiteLock, "is already included in all IONOS hosting contracts", and lists a SiteLock seal among its features, so those seals keep answering for as long as the hosting does. HostGator and Bluehost used to resell SiteLock as an add-on, but both now say SiteLock is no longer available and existing plans won't renew (HostGator's notice dates from August 2026, Bluehost's from 29 September), which goes a long way to explaining the dead seals on those nameservers. In the live set, IONOS nameservers sit behind 647 domains (23.72%).
Sales signal: on IONOS a live seal comes free with hosting; on Bluehost and HostGator, SiteLock plans are running out because the host has stopped selling it. Split the list by host before you treat the seal as a budget line, and treat the Bluehost and HostGator seals as owners who need a replacement.
Who keeps a working seal
The live base is tiny businesses: 70.3% of matched companies have 1 to 10 staff, 21.82% have 11 to 50, and only 21 employ more than 500. Most were founded in the 2010s (37.02%) or 2000s (25.85%). The one surprise is industry. Insurance is 16.86%, and 271 of those 280 insurance companies run websites built on EZLynx, the insurance-agency software maker; across the whole live set, 420 domains (15.40%) are EZLynx sites. Every EZLynx site I opened showed a seal naming the agency's own domain. I couldn't find EZLynx saying it includes SiteLock, so I'd call it a pattern, not a confirmed bundle. Beyond the agencies, the names are regional businesses on several continents: O Povo, Kenya Women Microfinance Bank, TTK Banka, Lotus Eye Hospital, the University of Hargeisa.
Sales signal: independent US insurance agencies are the densest cluster here, and they share a website vendor. Reach them through EZLynx, or filter by agency size; an industry keyword alone won't find them.
Where they are
The United States has 805 matched companies, Germany 338, the United Kingdom 143, Brazil 114 and Spain 106. Germany again comes down to hosting: 320 of the 349 live .de domains use IONOS or Strato nameservers. In Brazil, HostGator's local nameservers held 186 seal domains, and 140 of them failed the check. India, Mexico, Japan and Colombia also make the top 15.
Sales signal: in Germany the seal mostly arrives with IONOS or Strato hosting, so the decision there sits with the hosting account.
Stacked, not switched
There is no switching table on this page, and the overlaps explain why. 163 SiteLock domains also show Imperva today, and 72 show Sucuri. The Imperva overlap is mostly SiteLock's own firewall, which runs on Imperva's network. A seal and a firewall do different jobs, so sites keep both, or keep an old seal after putting a firewall in front of the site.
"Where a SiteLock seal sits next to Sucuri, the seal usually came with the hosting and the firewall came later." - Sophie Clarke, Product Marketing Manager at TechnologyChecker.io
Sales signal: a firewall vendor can treat a SiteLock seal as a sign the owner already pays for security. Pitch an upgrade.
The stack around it
WordPress runs on 50.48% of the 2,728, Elementor on 15.18% and Joomla on 4.22%. Apache serves 52.64%, often a sign of shared hosting, and Cloudflare sits in front of 11.58%. Google Analytics is on 57.55%. For WordPress sites the do-it-yourself alternative is a security plugin such as Wordfence.
Sales signal: half these sites run WordPress on shared hosting. Plugins, managed WordPress and migration offers all fit.
What SiteLock says, and what we see
SiteLock's about page says it was founded in 2008, protects more than 20 million websites, has over 200 partners, and joined Sectigo, the certificate authority behind Sectigo TrustLogo, in 2021. Its pricing page (read 16 October 2026) lists Basic at $19.99 a month, Pro at $29.99 and Business at $44.99, or $199, $299 and $449 a year. Twenty million is SiteLock's count of protected websites; our 2,728 is seals on pages that still answer. Both can be true, since a customer doesn't have to show the badge, and many seals have since gone blank.
Sales signal: SiteLock's reach is the hosts. Win a host partnership and you reach its seals; target single sites and expect small budgets.
Key takeaways
1. 2,728 live domains after removing 2,575 seals with no live record; 6th of 18 in WAF & DDoS Protection.
2. 988 of 1,381 seal domains (71.5%) on Bluehost, HostGator and similar hosts' nameservers failed, against 38 of 685 on IONOS, which includes a basic SiteLock scan in its hosting.
3. Insurance agencies on EZLynx sites are 420 of the live domains.
4. 70.3% of matched companies have 1 to 10 staff.
5. A live seal proves a SiteLock record, not a paid scan.
How to use this list
Split the domains by host and by EZLynx before you prospect, and treat the blank-seal sites as former customers. How many customers does SiteLock have?
SiteLock says it protects more than 20 million websites through 200+ partners. Our crawl counts something narrower: 2,728 live domains showing a seal that SiteLock's server still confirms, out of 5,303 with a seal on the page. The other 2,575 seals pointed at no live record. 720 domains have removed the seal since March 2026.
What is SiteLock's market share?
1.14% of WAF & DDoS Protection on our cleaned count, 6th of the 18 technologies we track there. Our category table listed SiteLock at 5,343 before we removed dead seals. The leaders are counted differently: Sucuri (94,053 domains) and Imperva (28,777) from their firewalls, DDoS-Guard (91,034) from its proxy, while SiteLock is counted from the seal on the page.
What are the best alternatives to SiteLock?
For a WordPress site, the usual comparisons are Sucuri (94,053 domains in our crawl), Wordfence and Cloudflare in front of the site; larger organisations look at Imperva (28,777). 72 SiteLock domains also run Sucuri, so some sites stack rather than switch. Another 163 show Imperva, but SiteLock's own firewall runs on Imperva's network, so that overlap is mostly SiteLock itself. If you only want a malware scan, check what your host already includes before buying anything.
Which countries use SiteLock the most?
The United States leads with 805 matched companies, followed by Germany (338), the United Kingdom (143), Brazil (114) and Spain (106). Germany is high because of hosting: of 349 live .de domains with a seal, 320 use IONOS or Strato nameservers, and IONOS includes SiteLock's basic scan in its hosting. India, Mexico, Japan and Colombia also make the top 15.
What size companies use SiteLock?
Very small ones. 70.3% of matched companies with a known size have 1 to 10 employees, 21.82% have 11 to 50 and 5.08% have 51 to 200. Only 21 have more than 500 staff. Most were founded in the 2010s (37.02%) or 2000s (25.85%), which fits a product usually added at hosting checkout rather than bought by a security team.
How old are companies that use SiteLock?
Among the SiteLock domains we could match to a company with a known founding date, the largest group was founded in the 2010s (37.02%), followed by the 2000s (25.85%). That matched subset is drawn from 2,035 companies and is not representative of all 2,728 detected domains. This suggests SiteLock is most popular among relatively young companies.
What is the ideal customer profile for SiteLock?
The ideal SiteLock customer is: Company Size: 1-10 employees (70.3%), Location: US, then Germany, UK, Brazil and Spain, Founded: 2010-2019 (37.02%), Industry: Insurance agencies (16.86%), then IT services, Channel: Seal bought or bundled with web hosting — based on our analysis of 2,035 enriched companies at TechnologyChecker.io.
Do I really need SiteLock?
It depends on what you already have. IONOS, for example, includes SiteLock's basic Site Scan, seal included, in all its hosting contracts, so buying it again adds little. Our data shows how often a seal outlives its plan: of 5,303 domains showing a SiteLock seal in October 2026, 1,989 showed a seal whose record was gone, and 405 more had no live record.
How much does SiteLock cost?
SiteLock's own pricing page lists three plans in US dollars: Basic at $19.99 a month or $199 a year, Pro at $29.99 a month or $299 a year, and Business at $44.99 a month or $449 a year, with two months free on annual billing (read 16 October 2026). Hosts that resell SiteLock set their own add-on prices, and IONOS includes a basic scan free.
How to get rid of SiteLock?
Cancel it with whoever bills you, which may be your web host rather than SiteLock itself, then remove the seal code from your pages. The second step is the one people skip. In our October 2026 check, 1,989 domains still showed a SiteLock seal whose record was gone, so visitors saw a blank image where the badge should be.
Is SiteLock legit?
Yes. SiteLock was founded in 2008 and joined Sectigo, the certificate authority, in 2021, where it runs as a separate business unit, according to its own about page. Its seal server is real-time: it answered with a valid seal for 2,728 of the live domains we checked in October 2026. Whether it's worth paying for is a separate question from whether it's real.
SiteLock vs Sucuri: which is better?
They overlap more than they compete. Sucuri runs on 94,053 domains in our crawl, counted from its firewall; SiteLock's 2,728 are counted from a live seal. 72 SiteLock domains also show Sucuri today. Many SiteLock seals arrive with hosting (IONOS includes a basic SiteLock scan), so check what your host already provides before comparing the two on features.
Who owns SiteLock?
Sectigo. SiteLock's about page says it was founded in 2008 and joined the Sectigo family in 2021, and that it runs as a separate business unit within Sectigo, the certificate authority behind the Sectigo TrustLogo seal. SiteLock reports more than 20 million websites protected and over 200 partners, most of them web hosts that sell it alongside their plans.
Why do so many insurance agencies use SiteLock?
Because of their website vendor. Insurance is 16.86% of the companies we matched, and 271 of those 280 insurance companies run websites built on EZLynx, the insurance-agency software maker. In all, 420 of SiteLock's 2,728 live domains (15.40%) are EZLynx sites, almost all small US agencies. Each seal we sampled named the agency's own domain and answered.
Is SiteLock included with web hosting?
Sometimes. IONOS says the free basic version, Site Scan, "is already included in all IONOS hosting contracts", and lists a SiteLock seal among its features. 647 of SiteLock's 2,728 live domains use IONOS nameservers. HostGator and Bluehost used to sell it as an add-on but stopped in 2026, and existing plans there won't renew. On Bluehost, HostGator and similar hosts' nameservers, 988 of 1,381 seals in our data had no live record.
