Companies Using Medium
Our October 2026 crawl finds Medium on 1,590 domains, counted after we checked every candidate and removed the ones that aren't Medium. Of the domains we classified, 1,101 are publications Medium serves on the owner's own domain, 207 are name.medium.com addresses, 241 forward visitors to a page on medium.com and 40 only embed Medium posts. Below is the list of companies that use Medium, from engineering blogs such as CRED's, Thumbtack's and Ahrefs' to investors like Pantera Capital and RRE Ventures, with size, country, industry and stack.
The cleaning was large. We took out 561 domains: 298 psychic mediums, agencies and shops whose own name ends in "medium.com", 220 that point at retired Medium addresses or show a missing or suspended page, 36 live sites with no Medium left on them and 7 gambling pages. Medium ranks 7th of the 31 technologies in Blogging & Syndication, a table that RSS feeds fill almost entirely, so compare counts, not shares.

Medium Usage Statistics
The chart shows a single point, 1,590 domains in October 2026, because October is the month we cleaned. Earlier monthly totals still held the 561 look-alike, dead and gambling domains described on this page, so we don't chart them beside the cleaned figure. Since we began tracking Medium on 16 March 2026, 179 domains have dropped it on at least one hostname, and when we checked, 7 of them still ran it on another hostname.

Which Countries Use Medium the Most?
Which countries use Medium the most? The United States, with 262 matched companies, then the United Kingdom (59) and India (52), Canada (28), Brazil and Germany (21 each), and Singapore and the Netherlands (18 each). India close behind the UK is the detail to notice, and its list is full of startups' engineering and product blogs: CRED, Treebo, LiquiLoans, Mindstix and indiagold all publish on Medium. These counts cover the 874 Medium domains we matched to a company, based on our enriched company data.
Share of the 874 Medium domains we matched to a company record — 55.0% of the 1,590 we detect. Top 15 countries shown, so these do not sum to 100%. Domains with no matching company record are not represented here and skew small and independent.
Medium Market Share Among Blogging & Syndication
What is Medium's market share? Not one worth quoting. Medium ranks 7th of 31 technologies in Blogging & Syndication with 0.02%, but RSS, a feed format rather than a publishing product, accounts for 9,647,402 of the category's 9,746,782 domains, so every share in the chart is tiny. Compare counts instead: among blog hosts, Blogger has 63,680 domains, Substack 9,748, Tumblr 6,114, beehiiv 3,369 and Medium 1,590, ahead of Hashnode's 1,167, based on our live crawl at TechnologyChecker.io. The row ranked just above Medium, Beehiiv RSS feed, is beehiiv's signup form under another name, per our beehiiv profile.
Top Competitors by Market Share
Medium Customers by Company Size & Age
What size companies use Medium? Small ones, overwhelmingly. 61.0% of matched companies with a known size have 1 to 10 employees and 27.82% have 11 to 50, so 88.82% have 50 staff or fewer. Only 7 have more than 1,000. The larger names hand Medium to one team on a subdomain: Thumbtack runs blog.thumbtack.com on it and MIXI its Japanese developer blog, while their main sites stay elsewhere.
Company Size Distribution
Company Age (Founded Decade)
The largest group of matched companies was founded in the 2010s (48.23%), and 41.45% date from the 2020s, so 89.68% of those with a known founding year started in 2010 or later. The 2000s add 7.4% and everything older 2.92%. That's a founder-and-startup base, and it lines up with the 61.0% of companies with ten staff or fewer.
What Industries Use Medium the Most?
Software Development leads at 18.64%, then IT Services and IT Consulting (12.66%) and Technology, Information and Internet (12.31%). Those three make 43.61%, and LinkedIn's older Information Technology & Services label adds 3.63%. Financial Services (4.69%), Blockchain Services (2.7%) and venture capital firms (2.11%) come next, which fits the fintechs, crypto projects and investors in the list, based on our enriched company data at TechnologyChecker.io.
Software companies using Medium include Thumbtack, Kissflow, which runs its culture blog on it, and Ahrefs, with a tech blog at tech.ahrefs.com. Fintech companies on Medium include CRED, LiquiLoans and Ziina in the United Arab Emirates. Investors using Medium include Pantera Capital, RRE Ventures and Front Row Ventures, whose blog address forwards to its Medium publication.
Medium Alternatives & Competitors
The rows in this table are blog hosts, but the counts aren't like for like. Blogger's 63,680 includes free blogspot.com addresses, Substack's 9,748 includes substack.com publications, and Medium's 1,590 includes 207 name.medium.com addresses and 241 domains that only forward to Medium. Overlap is small: 14 Medium domains also run Substack today, 5 run Ghost and 4 run beehiiv. Blogger and Hashnode are the only pairs with enough history to test, and neither passes our switching tests, so this page has no migration table.

Tech Stack of Medium-Powered Websites
Most of what shows up on Medium domains is Medium's own. Across the 1,590 domains in our cleaned set, Apollo runs on 97.3%, Cloudflare's CDN on 96.92%, Cloudflare Browser Insights on 96.6% and Google Analytics on 91.07%, and all four are in the page code Medium serves on a publication, so they describe Medium's template rather than the owner's choices. The owners' own tools show in email: Amazon SES (4.4%), Mailchimp (2.89%) and Mailgun (2.7%). WordPress turns up on 7.04% and Webflow on 4.28%; 24 of the 112 WordPress domains are the sites that only embed Medium posts.

How We Counted Medium Sites
A domain counts here when one of three tests passes: the server answers with Medium's X-Powered-By header, a page loads a script from medium.com, or the page address contains medium.com. The third test is the loose one. It catches every name.medium.com address, which is right, and every domain whose own name ends in "medium.com", which isn't.
In October 2026 our detection flagged 2,159 live domains. After the usual removal of 8 for-sale and gambling titles, we checked every remaining domain by DNS and by loading the page, and removed 561: 298 look-alike domains that aren't Medium, 220 dead ones (146 on older Medium custom-domain addresses that no longer answer, 31 that no longer resolve, 31 that didn't load, 9 showing Medium's "not found" page and 3 suspended accounts), 36 live sites with no Medium on them and 7 gambling pages.
Every chart and table on this page uses the remaining 1,590: 1,101 custom-domain publications (most on the two addresses Medium's help centre gives, 162.159.153.4 and 162.159.152.4, and 46 reached through a proxy or a redirect), 207 name.medium.com addresses, 241 domains that forward to a page on medium.com and 40 sites that only embed Medium posts, which we kept and disclose here, plus one domain added after our check. Our category table uses this cleaned figure too, and Medium ranks 7th there. The chart starts in October 2026, the month we cleaned.
Expert Analysis: Medium Growth Trends & Key Signals for Sales Teams in 2026

I expected Medium to be the tidiest count in this category: one hosted platform, one way to connect a domain. It was the messiest. Our detection first flagged 2,159 live domains in October 2026. A domain counts when it answers with Medium's server header, loads a script from medium.com or has medium.com in its address, and that last test is where the trouble starts. I checked every one, first by DNS and then by loading the page, and 1,590 domains survived, 7th of 31 in Blogging & Syndication, with 874 matched to a company.
What we took out
298 domains weren't Medium. Nearly all have a name ending in "medium.com", and at least 106 are psychics and spiritual mediums by their page title. 220 were dead: 146 point at a block of addresses that older Medium custom-domain setups used and that no longer answer, and the rest no longer resolve, didn't load, show Medium's own "not found" page or belong to 3 suspended accounts. 36 live domains had no Medium left on them, and 7 were gambling pages. That's 561 in all, about a quarter of what the detection found. Sites that only embed Medium posts were rarer than I'd expected, 40 of them, and they stay in the count.
Sales signal: if you hold an older Medium list, re-check it. The look-alikes and dead addresses look like any other small business in a spreadsheet.
What's left
Medium's help centre tells members to point a custom domain at two addresses, 162.159.153.4 and 162.159.152.4. We found 1,101 custom-domain publications, most on those addresses and 46 reached through a proxy or a redirect; 991 loaded Medium's page code in a headless browser, and most of the rest stopped at a bot check. Add 207 name.medium.com addresses, 241 domains that forward to a page on medium.com and the 40 embeds, and that's the 1,590, give or take one domain added after our check.
"About a quarter of what our detection first called Medium wasn't working Medium. The address test caught every site whose name ends in 'medium.com', and there are a lot of psychic mediums out there." - Emma Davies, Data Analyst at TechnologyChecker.io
Sales signal: treat Medium as a settled pool of about 1,550 live publications and forwards, not a growth market. Since 16 March 2026, 179 domains dropped it on at least one hostname, and when I checked, only 7 of them still ran it on another. The chart starts in October because that's the month we cleaned.
Who publishes here
Small, young companies. 61.0% of matched companies with a known size have 1 to 10 employees, and 89.68% of those with a founding year started in 2010 or later. Publications sit on a blog subdomain (575 of the 1,101) or the bare domain (354). The bigger names give Medium to one team. CRED runs its engineering blog at engineering.cred.club, Thumbtack its company blog at blog.thumbtack.com, Ahrefs a tech blog at tech.ahrefs.com and MIXI a developer blog in Japanese. Investors write here too, Pantera Capital, RRE Ventures and Front Row Ventures among them, and venture firms make up 2.11% of matched companies.
Sales signal: connecting a custom domain to Medium today needs a paid membership, so most of these are teams that chose to pay for reach instead of running their own CMS. Content tools and agencies should talk to whoever owns the blog, usually engineering or marketing.
Where they are and what they do
The United States has 262 matched companies, the United Kingdom 59 and India 52. India's list is full of startups' engineering and product blogs: CRED, Treebo, LiquiLoans, Mindstix and indiagold all publish on Medium. Software Development (18.64%), IT Services (12.66%) and Technology, Information and Internet (12.31%) make up 43.61% of the base. Financial Services (4.69%) and Blockchain Services (2.7%) follow, with Bitkub Blockchain Technology and Reserve in the list.
Sales signal: for developer-relations, hiring-brand or crypto communications services, the Indian and Singaporean publications are a short, well-qualified list. Singapore alone has 18 matched companies, AI Singapore among them.
Moves between platforms
Few domains run Medium beside another blog host. Today 14 Medium domains also run Substack, 5 run Ghost and 4 run beehiiv. Only Blogger and Hashnode have enough shared history to test, and neither passes our switching tests: of 7 domains ever seen with Medium and Blogger, 4 still run both, and of 5 with Hashnode, 3 do. I wouldn't call any of it switching.
What does show up is decay. The 146 domains on retired addresses and the 36 live sites with no Medium left were all still marked as Medium before we checked them, some because the blog had moved onto the company's main site.
"The most useful rows I removed might be the broken ones. 146 domains still point at addresses Medium stopped answering on, so anyone following those blog links gets nothing." - Emma Davies, Data Analyst at TechnologyChecker.io
Sales signal: a blog subdomain aimed at a dead Medium address belongs to a company that needs a blog platform and may not know it. That's a migration pitch for blog hosts and content agencies, with the broken address as the opener.
The stack is Medium's
Apollo (97.3%), Cloudflare's CDN (96.92%), Cloudflare Browser Insights (96.6%) and Google Analytics (91.07%) top the stack, and I found all four in the source of a live publication's page. They describe Medium's template, not the owner. The owners' own choices show in email: Amazon SES on 4.4% of domains, Mailchimp on 2.89%, Mailgun on 2.7%. WordPress appears on 7.04%, and 24 of those 112 domains are the sites that only embed Medium posts.
Sales signal: don't count Medium domains as Google Analytics or Cloudflare customers; those tags belong to Medium. The email tools are the owner's and make a fair qualifier.
What it costs
Medium's membership page, checked on 15 October 2026, lists Medium Member at $50 a year and Friend of Medium at $150, each with a first-year offer ($35 and $105). Both include a custom domain and publications. The help centre adds two limits: no subfolders such as yourdomain.com/blog, and proxies must be switched off.
Sales signal: at $50 a year, price isn't what keeps a company on Medium. Sell control instead. A team that wants its blog at /blog on the main domain can't do it on Medium.
Key takeaways
1. 1,590 domains after removing 561 look-alike, dead, no-longer-Medium and gambling domains.
2. 1,101 custom-domain publications, 207 name.medium.com addresses, 241 forwards and 40 embeds.
3. A small, young, tech-heavy base: 61.0% have ten staff or fewer, 43.61% are in software, internet or IT.
4. India (52) sits close behind the UK (59), with startup engineering blogs prominent.
5. No switching corridor to any rival, and the stack's top tags are Medium's own.

Yes, though fewer sites than a raw count suggests. Of the 2,159 live domains our detection first flagged in October 2026, 1,590 survived our checks, and 991 custom-domain publications loaded Medium's page code when we opened them. We removed 220 that point at retired Medium addresses or show a missing or suspended page, and 179 dropped Medium since March 2026.
Why are people leaving Medium?
Our crawl can't see motives, only moves. 179 domains dropped Medium on at least one hostname between 16 March and October 2026, and we found 36 more live domains that no longer show any Medium page, some because the blog moved onto the company's main site. Another 146 domains still point at addresses Medium retired for custom domains, so their blogs no longer load.
