Companies Using iThemes Security
Our October 2026 crawl finds iThemes Security on 1,564 live domains. The WordPress plugin has been renamed twice: it became Solid Security in version 9.0.0, released in October 2023, and Kadence Security in version 10.0.0 in May 2026, according to its WordPress.org changelog. It blocks brute-force logins, adds two-factor authentication, runs a firewall and file-change checks, and scans for vulnerable plugins. Below is the list of companies that use iThemes Security, with size, country, industry and stack, including Ellsworth Corporation, Almoayyed International Group, the London PR agency Diffusion and Cuba's Clínica Central Cira García.
Read 1,564 as a floor. WordPress.org reports more than 700,000 active installations of the free plugin. We count a site only when the plugin's own files appear in its page, and they mostly appear for one feature: in a sample of 47 sites, 46 loaded its tab-napping protection script from the plugin's WordPress Tweaks module. Login protection, two-factor and the firewall leave no trace in public HTML. The rule also reads the free plugin's folder, better-wp-security. Pro lives in a separate folder, and since version 9.4.4 the two can't run together, so Pro-only sites aren't counted.
The plugin ranks 8th of 18 in WAF & DDoS Protection, with 0.65%. It shares that table with proxies such as Sucuri and Imperva, but it's software installed inside WordPress, closer to Wordfence than to a cloud firewall.

iThemes Security Usage Statistics
iThemes Security reads 1,434 domains in June 2026, 1,568 in July, 1,550 in August, 1,562 in September and 1,564 in October. The June to July step reflects changes on our side: the domains we crawl turn over every month, with dead sites dropping out and new ones added, and our detection widened. Since July the line has barely moved. 310 domains have dropped the plugin's files since tracking began in March 2026, and 31 of those still show them on another hostname.

Which Countries Use iThemes Security the Most?
Which countries use iThemes Security the most? The United States, with 220 matched companies, then Spain (129), the United Kingdom (92), Australia (86) and France (70). Spain's second place stands out: it has more matched companies than the UK. Italy (44), Canada (40) and Germany (32) follow. These counts cover the 1,099 domains we matched to a company.
Share of the 1,099 iThemes Security domains we matched to a company record — 70.3% of the 1,564 we detect. Top 15 countries shown, so these do not sum to 100%. Domains with no matching company record are not represented here and skew small and independent.
iThemes Security Market Share Among WAF & DDoS Protection
What is iThemes Security's market share? 0.65% of WAF & DDoS Protection, 8th of the 18 tools we track at TechnologyChecker.io, on 1,564 domains. The leaders, Sucuri (94,053 domains, 39.23%), DDoS-Guard (91,034), Imperva (28,777) and SiteLock (2,728), are mostly proxies and hosted services that show up in headers or seals on every page. A plugin that leaves no front-end file on most of its sites can't be compared with them like for like.
Top Competitors by Market Share
iThemes Security Customers by Company Size & Age
What size companies use iThemes Security? Small ones. 69.67% of matched companies with a known size have 1 to 10 employees and 21.93% have 11 to 50. Only three have more than 1,000 staff. Ellsworth Corporation, the Wisconsin adhesives distributor, is one and runs the plugin on its careers site; Orissa Stevedores and Bangladesh University of Business and Technology are listed at 5,001 to 10,000.
Company Size Distribution
Company Age (Founded Decade)
Nearly half of matched companies, 48.99%, were founded in the 2010s, and 22.37% in the 2000s. Only 4.03% date from the 2020s, against 14.14% on Negate's profile. That fits a plugin first added to WordPress.org in 2010: the sites carrying it were mostly built some years ago and kept running.
What Industries Use iThemes Security the Most?
Construction leads at 5.81%, with Real Estate close behind at 5.7%, then Medical Practices (3.62%), Retail (3.29%) and Hospitality (3.18%), based on our enriched company data. No industry reaches 6%. It's the profile of local service businesses: builders, estate agents, clinics and hotels, each with a WordPress site to protect.
Construction companies using iThemes Security include Champion Installs and Industrial Scaffold Services. Hotels and resorts on iThemes Security include The Chateau Spa and Wellness Resort and Amerald Resort Hotel, both in Malaysia. Healthcare organisations using iThemes Security include Cuba's Clínica Central Cira García and the São José dos Campos haematology service in Brazil.
iThemes Security Alternatives & Competitors
Sucuri, DDoS-Guard, Imperva and SiteLock protect sites from outside, as proxies, hosted firewalls or scanners, and they show up on every page they protect. iThemes Security works inside WordPress, so its direct rivals are other security plugins, Wordfence above all. The hosted alternative is a firewall such as Sucuri, which filters traffic before WordPress runs, or a scanner and firewall bundle such as SiteLock. We publish no switching rows for iThemes Security.

Expert Analysis: iThemes Security Growth Trends & Key Signals for Sales Teams in 2026

iThemes Security is the hardest kind of product for a crawler: a security plugin whose best features happen where we can't look. A domain counts here when a page loads files from the plugin's folder, /wp-content/plugins/better-wp-security/. Our October 2026 crawl finds 1,564 live domains like that, 1,099 of them matched to a company, 8th of 18 in WAF & DDoS Protection. WordPress.org reports more than 700,000 active installations. So the first job is to explain what the 1,564 are.
Three names, one folder
The plugin launched on WordPress.org in 2010 and is still maintained; its page was last updated on 14 October 2026, at version 10.0.6. Its changelog records the renames. Version 9.0.0, tagged in October 2023, announced that iThemes Security was now Solid Security. Version 10.0.0, tagged in May 2026, changed the branding from SolidWP to Kadence. The folder never changed, which is why we still track it under the iThemes name: most searchers still use it. The old solidwp.com/security address now redirects to Liquid Web's Kadence pages, where Kadence Pro ($299 a year) and Elite ($499) include Kadence Security with Pro features such as Patchstack virtual patching.
Sales signal: two renames in three years leave buyers unsure who supports their plugin. A WordPress care plan or a security vendor can open with that question.
Which files we see
I sampled 60 random domains from the clean set. 47 loaded, and all 47 carried the plugin's files. 46 loaded its tab-napping protection script from the WordPress Tweaks module; the other loaded a strong-passwords script. Nothing else in the plugin left a mark. Brute-force protection, two-factor and the firewall run on the server and the login page. The rule also reads only the free plugin's folder. Pro installs live in ithemes-security-pro, and since version 9.4.4 the free and Pro plugins can't run together, so a Pro site drops out of our count entirely. One thing works in the signal's favour: WordPress only loads a plugin's files while the plugin is active, so unlike a pasted tracking tag, this marker doesn't outlive an uninstall, unless a page cache keeps serving an old copy.
Sales signal: every domain here runs the free edition. That makes the list an upgrade list for the vendor and a switching list for competing security plugins.
Flat since July
The chart reads 1,434 in June, 1,568 in July, 1,550 in August, 1,562 in September and 1,564 in October. The step into July reflects our crawl covering more domains, which also turn over every month, and our detection widening. Since March 2026, 310 domains dropped the files, and 31 of those still show them on another hostname. The script addresses we sampled carried version numbers from 4041 to 4122, while the current release, 10.0.6, is build 4130, so many sites run a release or two behind.
"This page counts the sites where one optional tweak is switched on. The plugin itself is on far more WordPress sites than any crawler can prove." - Mehmet Suleyman, CEO & Co-founder at TechnologyChecker.io
Sales signal: treat 1,564 as a sample of a much larger installed base. The companies on it are real users with the plugin active today.
Small businesses with older sites
69.67% of matched companies with a known size have 1 to 10 employees and 21.93% have 11 to 50. Nearly half, 48.99%, were founded in the 2010s, and only 4.03% in the 2020s. Construction (5.81%) and Real Estate (5.7%) lead the industries, ahead of Medical Practices (3.62%) and Hospitality (3.18%). The named users fit: Champion Installs, Industrial Scaffold Services, The Chateau Spa and Wellness Resort, Cuba's Clínica Central Cira García. Ellsworth Corporation runs the plugin on its careers site, Diffusion, the London PR agency, on its main site, and Catcote Academy, a special school in Hartlepool, on its homepage.
Sales signal: the buyer is the owner or the agency that maintains the site. Lead with maintenance and peace of mind.
The US and, unexpectedly, Spain
The United States has 220 matched companies. Spain is second with 129, ahead of the United Kingdom (92), Australia (86) and France (70). I looked for a Spanish host or agency behind it and found none: the 59 .es domains in the clean set are spread across many servers, the largest holding six.
Sales signal: Spain is a real market for this plugin. A Spanish-language WordPress security or maintenance offer has a list to start from.
Rivals inside and outside WordPress
We publish no switching rows for iThemes Security. Its direct rivals are other plugins, Wordfence first, and hosted firewalls such as Sucuri that filter traffic before WordPress runs. In our table those hosted services look enormous next to the plugin, because a proxy shows on every page and a plugin mostly doesn't.
"Comparing a WordPress plugin with a proxy firewall on crawl counts is like counting cars by the ones parked on the street. You'll undercount everyone with a garage." - Mehmet Suleyman, CEO & Co-founder at TechnologyChecker.io
Sales signal: for a hosted firewall vendor, these sites already think about security but rely on a free plugin. That's a clear upgrade conversation.
The stack
WordPress is on every domain we could profile. WPBakery (10.05%), Elementor (9.4%) and Divi (5.96%) are the main builders. Apache serves 41.54%, Nginx 19.44% and LiteSpeed 16.98%, and Cloudflare fronts 20.29%, so about one site in five already puts a proxy in front of the plugin. Google Analytics is on 51.65% and MonsterInsights on 4.86%.
Sales signal: the four sites in five without Cloudflare are the natural audience for a hosted firewall or CDN offer, and page-builder sites are a good fit for maintenance retainers.
Key takeaways
1. 1,564 live domains, 8th of 18, against more than 700,000 active installs: a floor, not a census.
2. The signal is mostly the tab-napping script, and only the free plugin's folder.
3. Renamed Solid Security in 2023 and Kadence Security in 2026.
4. Small, established businesses, led by construction and real estate, with Spain unusually strong.

Frequently Asked Questions
Who uses iThemes Security?
Mostly small businesses with WordPress sites: 69.67% of matched companies have 10 or fewer staff. Our October 2026 crawl finds the plugin's files on 1,564 live domains, led by construction, real estate and healthcare firms. Named users include Ellsworth Corporation on its careers site, Almoayyed International Group, Diffusion and Cuba's Clínica Central Cira García.
How many customers does iThemes Security have?
WordPress.org reports more than 700,000 active installations of the free plugin, now called Kadence Security. In October 2026 we found its files on 1,564 live domains, because most features leave nothing in a public page. 1,099 of those domains match a company. 310 domains have dropped the files since March 2026, 31 of which still show them elsewhere.
What is iThemes Security's market share?
0.65% of WAF & DDoS Protection, 8th of the 18 tools we track, on 1,564 domains. Sucuri leads with 94,053 domains (39.23%), then DDoS-Guard and Imperva, with SiteLock 6th. Those are proxies and hosted services that show on every page they protect, while this plugin mostly doesn't, so its share understates its real footprint by a wide margin.
What are the best alternatives to iThemes Security?
Other WordPress security plugins first, Wordfence above all, then hosted firewalls such as Sucuri that filter traffic before it reaches the server. If you already pay for Kadence's theme bundle, its Pro plan includes Kadence Security with Pro features. We publish no switching rows for iThemes Security, so our data can't say where leavers go.
Which countries use iThemes Security the most?
The United States, with 220 matched companies, then Spain (129), the United Kingdom (92), Australia (86) and France (70). Spain's second place stands out, ahead of the UK. Italy (44), Canada (40) and Germany (32) follow. These counts cover the 1,099 iThemes Security domains we matched to a company in our October 2026 crawl.
What size companies use iThemes Security?
Small ones. 69.67% of matched companies with a known size have 1 to 10 employees and 21.93% have 11 to 50, so 91.6% have 50 or fewer staff. Only three have more than 1,000 employees, among them Ellsworth Corporation, which runs the plugin on its careers site. It's a small-business plugin in our data.
How old are companies that use iThemes Security?
Among the 447 matched companies with a known founding year, 48.99% were founded in the 2010s and 22.37% in the 2000s. Only 4.03% date from the 2020s, against 14.14% on Negate's profile. The plugin first appeared on WordPress.org in 2010, and the businesses using it are mostly a decade or more old.
What is the ideal customer profile for iThemes Security?
A business of 1 to 10 people in the United States, Spain, the UK or Australia, often in construction, real estate or healthcare, founded in the 2010s. It runs WordPress, usually with a page builder such as WPBakery or Elementor, on Apache or LiteSpeed hosting, and it relies on the free plugin rather than a hosted firewall.
Is iThemes Security free?
Yes. The plugin, now called Kadence Security Basic, is free on WordPress.org, with brute-force protection, two-factor authentication, file-change detection and a firewall. The paid Pro edition adds features such as Patchstack virtual patching, magic links and version management. Every site in our count runs the free plugin's folder, since Pro installs under a different one.
How much does iThemes Security Pro cost?
Liquid Web now sells it inside its Kadence bundles: Kadence Pro at $299 a year and Elite at $499 a year, both including Kadence Security alongside backups, membership tools and the Kadence theme. We didn't find a standalone price on Liquid Web's Kadence pages. Checked 29 October 2026. The free plugin remains on WordPress.org.
What happened to iThemes Security?
It was renamed twice. Version 9.0.0, released in October 2023, announced that iThemes Security was now Solid Security. Version 10.0.0, released in May 2026, updated the branding from SolidWP to Kadence, per the plugin's changelog. The WordPress.org address still uses the original slug, better-wp-security, and the old solidwp.com/security page now redirects to Liquid Web's Kadence site.
Is iThemes safe?
The plugin rates 4.6 out of 5 from 3,992 ratings on WordPress.org and more than 700,000 active installations, and it is still maintained: its page was last updated on 14 October 2026, at version 10.0.6. We can't audit its code. What our data shows is that it runs on small-business WordPress sites, 69.67% of them at companies of 10 or fewer staff.
Which WordPress security plugin is the best?
We can't rank plugins on protection, only on what we can see. Wordfence and iThemes Security both work inside WordPress and leave few traces in public pages, so crawl counts understate both. Hosted firewalls such as Sucuri, on 94,053 domains in our table, show on every page. Pick on features: login protection, firewall depth, scanning and support.
Why is your iThemes Security count lower than 700,000 installs?
Because we can only count what a public page shows. The plugin adds files to the front end mainly for its tab-napping protection, which 46 of 47 sampled sites loaded. Login protection, two-factor and the firewall run out of sight. Pro installs use a different folder, and installs on intranets or password-protected sites never reach our crawl.
