Companies Using GlobalSign
Our October 2026 crawl finds 165,576 domains with a GlobalSign domain-validation record in DNS. GlobalSign gives each order a verification code, the domain owner publishes it as a TXT record, and GlobalSign checks it before issuing the certificate. Nobody has to delete the record afterwards, and most people don't, so the count is domains that validated with GlobalSign at least once: a ceiling on current customers, not a census. Below is the list of companies that use GlobalSign, including Walmart, Alibaba Group, Flipkart, Tata Motors and SGS.
GlobalSign ranks 1st in SSL/TLS Certificates with a 76.87% share, but that table counts verification records. When we opened a TLS connection to a random 1,004 of the domains on 15 October 2026, 354 of the 979 that answered (36.16%) served a certificate issued by GlobalSign, and 396 served one from Let's Encrypt. Read the headline as history; about a third of it is current on the homepage.

GlobalSign Usage Statistics
The chart reads 129,801 domains in June 2026 and 165,576 in October, the same figure as the headline. Don't read that as growth. The domains we crawl turn over every month, with dead sites leaving and new ones added, and our DNS detection widened over the same months, so the series is a coverage curve. What it can't show is decay: a GlobalSign record stays in DNS long after the certificate it unlocked has expired, which is why only 36.16% of a random 979 domains served a GlobalSign certificate when we checked them on 15 October 2026.

Which Countries Use GlobalSign the Most?
Which countries use GlobalSign the most? The United States leads with 23,598 matched companies, then Brazil with 14,744, the United Kingdom (6,072), Germany (5,647) and India (4,837). Brazil is unusually high for a CA page, and the live check backs it up: 58 of the 107 Brazilian domains in our sample that answered still served a GlobalSign certificate, against 36.16% overall. Russia (2,845) is the other outlier, and Yandex.Metrika runs on 11.29% of all GlobalSign domains.
Share of the 102,387 GlobalSign domains we matched to a company record — 61.8% of the 165,576 we detect. Top 15 countries shown, so these do not sum to 100%. Domains with no matching company record are not represented here and skew small and independent.
GlobalSign Market Share Among SSL/TLS Certificates
What is GlobalSign's market share? 76.87% of SSL/TLS Certificates, ranked 1st on 165,576 domains, based on our crawl at TechnologyChecker.io. The share is large because the category is measured from DNS validation records and site seals, and GlobalSign's record is the most common of them. It isn't a share of certificates in use: Let's Encrypt, which leaves no such record, isn't ranked in this table, yet it issued more of the live certificates in our sample (396 of 979) than GlobalSign did (354).

GlobalSign Customers by Company Size & Age
What size companies use GlobalSign? Mostly small ones. 40.84% of matched companies have 1 to 10 staff, 25.44% have 11 to 50 and 16.01% have 51 to 200, so 82.29% have 200 or fewer, based on our analysis of 102,387 enriched companies. That fits the certificates we saw: 210 of the 354 live GlobalSign certificates in our sample were AlphaSSL, GlobalSign's low-cost domain-validated brand, and only 3 were EV. Companies over 1,000 staff are 6.84% of the base.
Company Size Distribution
Company Age (Founded Decade)
The base spans every era. Companies founded in the 2010s are the largest group at 28.97%, the 2000s add 22.76% and the 1990s 15.04%. Firms founded before 1960 still make up 10.5% (6,080 companies), which is what you'd expect from a CA that has sold certificates since 1996 to both web-era start-ups and old industrial groups.
What Industries Use GlobalSign the Most?
No industry dominates. Retail leads at 4.78%, then IT Services and IT Consulting (4.72%), Software Development (3.32%), Construction (3.15%) and Financial Services (3.13%), based on our enriched company data. Ten industries each hold between 2% and 5%. Every website needs a certificate, so the industry mix follows the web's own.
Retail companies using GlobalSign include Walmart, whose walmart.org site still serves a GlobalSign certificate, and ADEO, the Leroy Merlin group. Financial firms on GlobalSign include Intesa Sanpaolo, Itaú Unibanco and Banco Bradesco, and manufacturers using GlobalSign include Tata Motors and Johnson Controls, both serving its certificates on their homepages when we checked.
GlobalSign Alternatives & Competitors
GlobalSign's record is on 165,576 domains, 16.2x SwissSign's 10,230. SwissSign, QuoVadis (7,065) and Actalis (4,255) are counted the same way, from their DNS validation records, so that part of the table is like for like. Sectigo TrustLogo is a site-seal script, a different signal. Overlap is small: 404 domains carry both GlobalSign and SwissSign records today, 188 GlobalSign and QuoVadis, 77 GlobalSign and Actalis. The biggest live rival in our sample, Let's Encrypt, isn't in the table at all.

Expert Analysis: GlobalSign Growth Trends & Key Signals for Sales Teams in 2026

I run the crawler that reads the DNS of every domain we visit, and TXT records are where certificate authorities leave their fingerprints. A domain counts here when one of its TXT records contains _globalsign-domain-verification. Our October 2026 crawl puts that at 165,576 domains, 102,387 matched to a company, 1st in SSL/TLS Certificates. Because a validation record proves something happened once, I tested what it means today. On 15 October 2026 I took a random one-in-160 sample of the clean set, 1,004 domains, re-read their DNS and opened a TLS connection to each homepage.
What the record proves
GlobalSign's DNS verification guide covers DomainSSL (DV) and AlphaSSL orders, SANs added to CloudSSL certificates, OV and EV domains added to a managed SSL account, and self-validation for partner and retail OV and EV certificates. Each order gets a code that expires 30 days after the order. The CA/Browser Forum's Baseline Requirements now let a CA reuse a domain validation for at most 200 days. The record is only needed for a few days, then, and it outlives that by years.
Sales signal: treat the list as companies that bought a GlobalSign certificate at some point, not as current subscribers.
How much of it is current
980 of the 1,004 sampled domains still carried the record. 979 answered a TLS handshake, and 354 (36.16%) served a certificate issued by GlobalSign. Let's Encrypt served 396 (40.45%), Google Trust Services 96 and GoDaddy 36. Applied to the 164,362 domains in our clean set, 36.16% is roughly 59,000 domains with a GlobalSign certificate on the homepage, give or take three points. A smaller random draw of 50 gave 17 of 49, the same picture.
"Two in five of the domains that once validated with GlobalSign now serve Let's Encrypt, and almost all of them kept the GlobalSign record." - David Thomson, CTO at TechnologyChecker.io
The homepage test is a floor for current use, because a company can keep GlobalSign on a mail server or a login subdomain while its homepage moves to a CDN certificate. The record count is the ceiling. Current use sits somewhere between 36% and 98%. I'd plan on the lower end.
Sales signal: the 60%-plus of domains that kept the record but moved CA have changed CA once already. That makes them the first list a competing CA should work.
What they buy
Of the 354 live GlobalSign certificates, 210 came from AlphaSSL issuing CAs, GlobalSign's budget DV brand, 93 from GlobalSign's own DV CAs, 48 from OV CAs and only 3 from EV. Their validity periods split almost evenly between about 390 days and about 190 days, so about half the base has renewed since the 200-day cap took effect on 15 March 2026. GlobalSign's shop listed DV at $249 a year, OV at $349 and EV at $599 on 15 October 2026, each year sold as two 199-day certificates.
Sales signal: this is a DV-heavy base. Pitches about managed renewal and automation for short-lived certificates will land better than EV.
Portfolios and platforms
The owners with the most domains are brand groups with a country site per market. BMW Group has 234 (96 bmw.*, 76 mini.* and 57 bmw-motorrad.* domains among them), and the next three brand groups have 50, 45 and 36. Together that's 365 domains, 0.22% of the count, so no single owner skews the page. They differ today: the BMW and MINI homepages I checked served Let's Encrypt, one of the other groups had moved to Google Trust Services, and the other two still served GlobalSign OV certificates.
One platform does put its customers here. Imperva's cloud WAF obtains GlobalSign certificates for the sites behind it: 20 sampled domains resolved to Imperva, 16 of them served GlobalSign certificates, and 13 of those were shared certificates named imperva.com. Our records show 3,786 GlobalSign domains (2.30%) running Imperva, too few to change the picture but worth knowing before you call one of them about certificates. The verification codes themselves rarely repeat: 7 codes were shared, across 16 domains.
"BMW validated 234 domains with GlobalSign. The five BMW Group homepages I checked now serve Let's Encrypt." - David Thomson, CTO at TechnologyChecker.io
Sales signal: for the Imperva slice, the decision sits with Imperva, not the site owner.
Who and where
40.84% of matched companies have 1 to 10 staff and 82.29% have 200 or fewer. The United States leads with 23,598 matched companies and Brazil follows with 14,744, ahead of the UK (6,072) and Germany (5,647). Brazil is also where GlobalSign holds on best: 58 of the 107 Brazilian domains that answered served its certificate, well above the 36.16% average. Russia shows up through Yandex.Metrika (11.29% of the base), 1C-Bitrix (3.81%) and REG.RU hosting (1.56%).
Sales signal: Brazil is the market where GlobalSign is still the incumbent, and the one where a competing CA has the most to displace.
Churn and overlap
Records rarely disappear. 9,357 domains dropped it since we began tracking on 16 March 2026, about 5.7% of the count, and a recount on 15 October found 835 of the dropped domains still carrying it on another hostname. Overlap with other TXT-validated CAs is small: 404 domains carry SwissSign records as well, 188 QuoVadis and 77 Actalis. Seen from the other side, 65 of the 1,783 domains in our IdenTrust clean set also carry a GlobalSign record. We publish no switching table, because leaving a CA rarely removes its record.
Sales signal: a dropped record is not a reliable churn trigger. The live certificate is.
Key takeaways
1. 165,576 domains validated with GlobalSign; about 36% of a random sample still serve its certificate.
2. Let's Encrypt has taken more of these homepages (40.45%) than GlobalSign kept.
3. AlphaSSL and DV make up 303 of 354 live GlobalSign certificates.
4. Brazil is the strongest market, by count and by retention.
5. Portfolios (BMW Group and three other brand groups) are 0.22% of the count; Imperva-fronted sites are 2.30%.

Frequently Asked Questions
Who uses GlobalSign?
Small and mid-sized companies, mostly: 82.29% of the 102,387 matched companies have 200 or fewer staff. Big names carry the record too, including Walmart, Alibaba Group, Flipkart, Tata Motors, SGS, Intesa Sanpaolo, Johnson Controls and the United Nations, all of which served a GlobalSign certificate on their homepage when we checked on 15 October 2026.
How many customers does GlobalSign have?
We count 165,576 domains with a GlobalSign verification record in October 2026, not customers. The record is left behind after each order, so many belong to sites that have since moved to another CA. In a random sample of 979 answering domains, 354 (36.16%) still served a GlobalSign certificate, which puts current homepage use at roughly 59,000 domains.
What is GlobalSign's market share?
GlobalSign holds 76.87% of the SSL/TLS Certificates category at TechnologyChecker.io, ranked 1st on 165,576 domains. That category counts DNS validation records and site seals, not certificates in use. Let's Encrypt has no rule there, yet in our live sample it issued 396 of 979 homepage certificates against GlobalSign's 354, so treat the share as a share of records.
What are the best alternatives to GlobalSign?
For paid certificates, buyers compare GlobalSign with DigiCert, Sectigo and regional CAs such as SwissSign, Actalis and D-Trust. For free domain-validated certificates the default is Let's Encrypt, which already serves 396 of the 979 sampled GlobalSign-record domains that answered our check. Which fits depends on validation level: GlobalSign sells DV, OV and EV certificates.
Which countries use GlobalSign the most?
The United States leads with 23,598 matched companies, followed by Brazil (14,744), the United Kingdom (6,072), Germany (5,647), India (4,837) and Canada (4,536). Brazil stands out twice: it's second by count, and 58 of the 107 Brazilian domains that answered our live check still served a GlobalSign certificate, well above the 36.16% average.
What size companies use GlobalSign?
Small ones lead. 40.84% of matched companies have 1 to 10 employees, 25.44% have 11 to 50 and 16.01% have 51 to 200. Companies with more than 1,000 staff are 6.84%. The live certificates match that picture: 210 of the 354 GlobalSign certificates we found were AlphaSSL, the low-cost DV brand, and just 3 were EV.
How old are companies that use GlobalSign?
A mix. 28.97% of matched companies with a known founding year started in the 2010s, 22.76% in the 2000s and 15.04% in the 1990s. 10.5%, or 6,080 companies, were founded before 1960. That spread reflects a CA that has sold certificates since 1996 to newer web businesses and long-established groups alike.
What is the ideal customer profile for GlobalSign?
On our data, a company with 1 to 10 staff, founded in the 2010s, in the US, Brazil or the UK, running a WordPress site (34.09% of domains), that bought a low-cost DV or AlphaSSL certificate. For a seller, the better filter is current use: about 36% of the domains still serve a GlobalSign certificate, and those are the live accounts.
Is GlobalSign a trusted certificate authority?
Yes. GlobalSign has issued certificates since 1996 and says more than 267 million certificates rely on it. The practical test is browsers: its certificates were the ones served by 354 of the 979 sampled sites we connected to on 15 October 2026, including Alibaba Group, Flipkart and the United Nations, so ordinary visitors meet them every day.
Is GlobalSign legit?
Yes. It's an established certificate authority, operating since 1996, that sells DV, OV and EV certificates directly and through AlphaSSL. Our crawl finds its domain-validation record on 165,576 domains, and a live check of 979 of them found 354 still serving GlobalSign certificates, from AlphaSSL on small sites to OV certificates on Walmart's and Alibaba Group's.
How much does a GlobalSign certificate cost?
GlobalSign's shop listed, on 15 October 2026, $249 a year for a DV certificate, $349 for OV and $599 for EV, with wildcards at $849 (DV) and $949 (OV). A one-year term is sold as two 199-day certificates. AlphaSSL, its budget brand, and resellers usually price lower; enterprise volumes are quoted separately.
What does GlobalSign do?
GlobalSign is a certificate authority. It issues TLS certificates for websites at DV, OV and EV level, plus S/MIME, document-signing and code-signing certificates, and sells managed PKI for companies that issue many certificates. The record our crawl detects comes from its domain check: before issuing, GlobalSign asks the buyer to publish a code in the domain's DNS.
What is the _globalsign-domain-verification TXT record?
It's the DNS method of GlobalSign's domain check. Each order gets a code that expires 30 days after the order; the owner publishes it as _globalsign-domain-verification=code in a TXT record, and GlobalSign reads it before issuing. Our crawl detects that record. Older records without the leading underscore exist too, but our rule doesn't count those.
Is AlphaSSL the same as GlobalSign?
AlphaSSL is GlobalSign's low-cost DV brand, issued from GlobalSign's own intermediates. On our sample it's the most common GlobalSign product by far: 210 of the 354 live GlobalSign certificates came from an AlphaSSL issuing CA, against 93 from GlobalSign DV CAs, 48 from OV CAs and just 3 from an EV issuing CA.
Can I delete the GlobalSign verification TXT record?
GlobalSign's code is only valid for 30 days from the order, and CA/Browser Forum rules now cap the reuse of a domain validation at 200 days, so an old record doesn't keep a certificate valid. Most owners leave it anyway: 980 of the 1,004 domains we re-read on 15 October 2026 still had it, though only 354 served GlobalSign certificates.
