Companies Using Google Hosted Libraries

Our October 2026 crawl finds 1,656,543 domains loading at least one file from ajax.googleapis.com, the library CDN Google runs as Google Hosted Libraries. There's no account to open, so this page counts sites rather than customers. Below is the list of companies that use Google Hosted Libraries on at least one of their sites, with size, country, industry and stack. Wipro and Mondelez International load jQuery from it on their main sites, State Farm on its saved-quote pages, and YouTube TV pulls Hammer.JS from its parent company's CDN.

It ranks 4th of the 60 services we track in CDN, with 7.9%. WordPress runs on 27.98% of these domains, the largest single platform. Most of what Google serves them is jQuery, and old jQuery at that: in our sample, 2,629 of 3,664 versioned jQuery loads (71.75%) pin a release older than 3.5.0, the 2020 version that fixed a cross-site scripting issue.

Google Hosted Libraries Usage Statistics

Our live crawl counts 1,365,169 domains in June 2026, 1,568,753 in July and 1,656,543 in October. The June to July step of 203,584 reflects changes on our side, both the domains we cover and the signals we detect Google Hosted Libraries with, rather than a wave of new installs. Counts aren't a like-for-like series: the set of domains we crawl turns over every month, with dead sites dropping out and newly found ones added, and our detection signals widen over time. Since July the line has gained 21,955, 47,205 and 18,630 domains a month, which is flat for a base this size. Since we began tracking it in March 2026, 235,570 domains have stopped loading it on at least one hostname, though when I re-ran that count in October, 28,556 of 235,683 still loaded it on another.

List of Companies Using Google Hosted Libraries

Who uses Google Hosted Libraries? This list of companies that use Google Hosted Libraries names 50 of the 887,999 matched companies. I opened their pages in October 2026, and those that loaded showed the file on ajax.googleapis.com. 35 of the 50 were detected on a subdomain rather than the main site: investor pages at Boston Scientific, NatWest Group and Sysco, careers sites at Aon and Groupama Gan, a configurator at John Deere. At large organisations the Google Hosted Libraries user is usually the team or vendor behind one surface.

Google Hosted Libraries Market Share Among CDN

What is Google Hosted Libraries' market share? 7.9% of the CDN category, 4th of the 60 services we track, based on our live crawl at TechnologyChecker.io. Cloudflare leads with 10,497,906 domains, but sites route their traffic through Cloudflare rather than fetch a library file from it. Among library CDNs Google's is third, behind cdnjs (2,276,149 domains) and jsDelivr (2,012,188), and ahead of the jQuery CDN (863,027) and Unpkg (710,077). jsDelivr's figure comes after its own page removed for-sale and gambling pages. Here the same filter took out 16,873 of 1,648,076 live domains (1.0%), too few to re-base the headline.

Google Hosted Libraries Customers by Company Size & Age

What size companies use Google Hosted Libraries? Mostly very small ones. 64.42% of matched companies with a known size have 1 to 10 employees and 23.16% have 11 to 50, so 87.58% have 50 staff or fewer. That micro share is higher than cdnjs (58.17%), the jQuery CDN (58.04%) or jsDelivr (56.35%). The large tail is still big in absolute terms: 8,997 companies have more than 1,000 employees, 1,491 of them more than 10,000. They usually load it on one surface, such as CIBC's branch locator or Boston Scientific's investor site.

Company Size Distribution

Company Age (Founded Decade)

The largest group of matched companies was founded in the 2010s (37.73%), then the 2000s (18.42%) and the 2020s (17.01%). 26.85% date from before 2000, and 22,366 companies (5.45%) were founded before 1960. The 2020s share is lower than on the jsDelivr (21.57%) and Unpkg (22.65%) profiles and a little above the jQuery CDN's 15.13%, which fits a CDN whose most-used files are older jQuery builds.

What Industries Use Google Hosted Libraries the Most?

Retail leads at 4.88%, then Construction (3.76%), Real Estate (3.46%) and IT Services and IT Consulting (2.77%), based on our enriched company data. Medical Practices (2.4%) and Hospitality (2.09%) make the top ten. No industry reaches 5%, and the ten charted add up to 29.15% of matched companies, the shape of a default that arrived with the website rather than one a buyer picked for their sector.

Healthcare organisations using Google Hosted Libraries include Centene on centene.com, HCA Healthcare on its magazine site and Mount Sinai on mountsinai.org, which loads two jQuery builds (1.10.2 and 2.2.0). Banks and insurers on Google Hosted Libraries include State Farm, CIBC, Absa Group and ANZ on its help centre. Government sites using Google Hosted Libraries include Canada.ca and the FAA's airport data portal, which loads AngularJS 1.7.5 from it, based on pages we opened in October 2026.

Google Hosted Libraries Alternatives & Competitors

Read this table as overlap rather than rivalry. In our October 2026 crawl 429,809 domains load both Google Hosted Libraries and cdnjs, 338,975 load it alongside jsDelivr, 126,780 alongside the jQuery CDN and 87,227 alongside Unpkg. None of these pairs passes our switching tests: for each one, at least 80% of the domains ever seen with both still load both. A page can take jQuery from Google and a slider from cdnjs, so there's no single slot to lose. The catalogues differ. Google lists 23 libraries, while jsDelivr serves npm and GitHub and runs a page for converting Google links.

Expert Analysis: Google Hosted Libraries Growth Trends & Key Signals for Sales Teams in 2026

David Thomson
David ThomsonCTO, TechnologyChecker

I run the crawler side of TechnologyChecker.io, so I read a Google Hosted Libraries detection as a single line of HTML: a script or stylesheet tag pointing at ajax.googleapis.com/ajax/libs/. As of our October 2026 crawl, 1,656,543 domains carry one, and 887,999 of the 1,631,203 in our clean live set match a company record, a 54.4% match rate. Google lists no price and requires no account, so everything below counts websites. What matters to a sales team is what that line says about the site (our post on technology detection methods covers how signals like this are matched).

What the signal catches

The rule fires on a script loaded from the /ajax/libs/ path or a stylesheet linked there. A preconnect hint to the host isn't enough. Google's Hosted Libraries page lists 23 libraries, three.js and Shaka Player among them, served with CORS headers and a one-year cache. Two of them do nearly all the work. We logged one example file path per domain from the host over the last 45 days, 4,996 domains in all: 3,713 (74.32%) fetched jQuery and 1,146 (22.94%) Google's Web Font Loader. jQuery UI came to 87 and AngularJS to 23.

The Web Font Loader share has one main source. On the Webflow sites I opened (Lear's homepage, Adobe's certified-professional site, Laureate's 2025 report, Lyft's ads site), jQuery came from Webflow's own host and only webfont.js 1.6.26 from Google. That's how Webflow reaches 12.12% of this base.

Sales Signal: Separate the two populations before you pitch. Filter Webflow out and what's left are sites whose developers or theme put Google's jQuery on the page, which is where front-end maintenance work lives.

Growth trajectory

Our current crawl window reads 1,365,169 domains in June 2026, 1,568,753 in July, 1,590,708 in August, 1,637,913 in September and 1,656,543 in October. The June to July step of 203,584 came from our side. Counts are not a like-for-like series over time: the set of domains we crawl turns over every month, with dead sites dropping out and newly found ones added, and our detection signals widen over time. Since July the gains have been 21,955, 47,205 and 18,630 a month, which is close to flat at this size.

Exits run alongside. 235,570 domains have stopped loading it on at least one hostname since we began tracking it in March 2026. That count starts in March, so it isn't a lifetime total, and it overstates real exits: when I re-ran the count in October, 28,556 of 235,683 such domains still loaded it on another hostname.

"Google Hosted Libraries barely gains or loses sites from one month to the next. The files on it get older. A site still pulling jQuery 1.x from Google in 2026 hasn't had a front-end decision made in years." - David Thomson, CTO at TechnologyChecker.io

Sales Signal: Treat this as a mature installed base and size territories on the October count. A first detection usually means our crawl reached the domain for the first time, so don't send "just adopted" outreach from it.

The versions are the signal

Google's list stops at jQuery 3.7.1. When I requested 4.0.0 from ajax.googleapis.com on 13 October it returned a 404, while jQuery's download page offers 4.0.0. The sites on this CDN are further back still. 3,664 jQuery loads in our sample carried a version, and 2,629 (71.75%) pinned a release older than 3.5.0, the April 2020 version whose main change was a security fix for a cross-site scripting issue in 3.4.1 and earlier. 1,664 (45.41%) were on jQuery 1.x. Our jQuery CDN profile found 49.11% of 4,044 sites below 3.5.0, so the copies sites load from Google run older.

The named list shows it. Chicago Public Schools' STEM site loads jQuery 1.6.4 and jQuery UI 1.8.16, CIBC's branch locator 1.7.2, the University of California Academic Senate 1.7.1, Emirates' mobile booking site 1.10.2, and Boston Scientific's investor pages 1.9.1 next to 3.2.1.

Sales Signal: For security scanners, front-end agencies and managed hosts this is a trigger list you can check before the first email, because the version sits in the URL.

The companies behind the domains

The matched base is small and settled. 64.42% of companies with a size band have 1 to 10 employees, more than on our cdnjs (58.17%), jQuery CDN (58.04%), Unpkg (56.64%) or jsDelivr (56.35%) profiles. It's the most American of the five, too: 34.37% of matched companies are in the United States, against 25% to 28% on the other four. 37.73% of those with a founding year date from the 2010s and only 17.01% from the 2020s.

The enterprise tail is 8,997 companies above 1,000 staff, and they rarely load Google's copy on the main site. 35 of the 50 in our named list were detected on a subdomain: investor pages at Boston Scientific, NatWest Group and Sysco, careers sites at Aon and Groupama Gan, John Deere's configurator, ANZ's help centre. Wipro, Mondelez International, TaskUs and Centene load it on their main sites.

Sales Signal: At a large company the hit belongs to whoever runs that surface, often an investor-relations or careers platform vendor. Ask who built the page before you pitch the central web team.

Industry and geography

No sector stands out. Retail leads at 4.88%, then Construction (3.76%), Real Estate (3.46%) and IT Services (2.77%), and the ten charted industries add up to only 29.15%. Construction, Real Estate and Medical Practices together hold 9.62%, which is a lot of local-service websites. The US, UK, Canada and Australia account for 52.25% of matched companies.

Sales Signal: For agencies selling rebuilds, the local-service verticals are the obvious cut, often businesses with a site someone else built, an old jQuery file in the head, and no in-house developer. Combine an industry filter with the version check above.

Why there's no migration table

We tested Google Hosted Libraries against cdnjs, jsDelivr, Unpkg, the jQuery CDN and Microsoft's Ajax CDN, and no pair passed our switching tests. Each is mostly sites using both. 429,809 domains load Google's copies and cdnjs in our October crawl, out of 507,729 ever seen with both (84.7%). For jsDelivr it's 338,975 of 406,633 (83.4%), and for the jQuery CDN 126,780 of 156,252 (81.1%). A page can take jQuery from Google and a carousel from cdnjs, so there's no exclusive slot to switch out of. Library CDNs mostly lose a site when it's rebuilt or goes offline.

"Four in five domains that have ever loaded Google's copies alongside cdnjs still load both. These CDNs share pages far more often than they take them from each other." - David Thomson, CTO at TechnologyChecker.io

Sales Signal: Don't build a "leaving Google's CDN" campaign from churn data. If you sell a CDN or a performance product, pitch consolidation instead: jsDelivr even runs a page for converting Google links. The prospects are the 429,809 sites already pulling files from two public CDNs on one page.

Technology ecosystem

Across 1,631,171 clean live domains, jQuery runs on 98.84%, jQuery Migrate on 21.02% and jQuery UI on 18.75%. Bootstrap is on 28.02% and Modernizr on 18.37%, a front-end generation that predates current build tools. WordPress (27.98%) is the largest platform, and 250,745 domains (15.37%) also run Shopify. GoDaddy hosting appears on 18.27%. Tailwind CSS reaches only 9.2%.

Sales Signal: Fewer than one site in ten runs Tailwind CSS, so most of this base hasn't been rebuilt recently. Front-end agencies and page-speed services have a dated codebase to point at.

What users say

A service with no sign-up has no G2 profile, so I read the search results instead. For ajax.googleapis.com they're full of "is it safe" questions and threads about pages stuck waiting on the host. Google's privacy statement covers the first: unauthenticated requests, cookies for security only, referrers stripped before logging. The second is fair, since every hit is a third-party request.

Sales Signal: Privacy vendors in EU markets can point to a Google host on every page, and performance tools to a third-party script in the head. Both show in the page source.

Key takeaways

  1. 1,656,543 domains, 4th in CDN with 7.9%, third among library CDNs.
  2. Flat since July: monthly gains under 50,000.
  3. jQuery (74.32% of our path sample) and the Web Font Loader that Webflow pages use (22.94%) are almost all of it.
  4. 71.75% of versioned jQuery loads predate 3.5.0, and Google doesn't host jQuery 4.
  5. 64.42% of matched companies have 1 to 10 staff; 34.37% are in the US.

How to use this list

Targeting: filter Google Hosted Libraries, exclude Webflow, and add a company size of 11 to 200 employees to reach businesses with a site worth maintaining; the 11-50 and 51-200 bands hold 31.03% of matched companies. Then read the detection URL: a subdomain hit is usually one team's page.

A workable opener: "Your [page] loads jQuery [version] from Google's CDN, a release from before the 2020 security fix. Google doesn't host jQuery 4, so upgrading means changing where the file comes from as well. Here's how [product] handles both."

Frequently Asked Questions

Who uses Google Hosted Libraries?

Mostly small businesses, plus a long enterprise tail. Our October 2026 crawl finds it on 1,656,543 domains, and 64.42% of matched companies have 10 or fewer staff. Named users include Wipro and Mondelez International on their main sites, State Farm on its saved-quote pages, John Deere on its configurator and the FAA on its airport data portal. YouTube TV, a Google property, loads Hammer.JS from it.

How many customers does Google Hosted Libraries have?

It has no customers in the paying sense: there's no account, and Google publishes no user count. Our October 2026 crawl finds 1,656,543 domains loading a file from ajax.googleapis.com, and 887,999 of them match a company record. Since March 2026, 235,570 domains stopped loading it on at least one hostname; in an October re-check, 28,556 of 235,683 still loaded it on another.

What is Google Hosted Libraries's market share?

Google Hosted Libraries holds 7.9% of the CDN category, ranking #4. This is a share of the domains we detect running a platform in this category — not a share of all websites, and not a share of spending — so it is not directly comparable to figures published on other denominators.

What are the best alternatives to Google Hosted Libraries?

cdnjs, jsDelivr, the jQuery CDN and Unpkg host the same popular files, and jsDelivr also serves packages from npm and GitHub. The other option is to bundle the library with your own site, which removes the third-party request. In practice sites mix CDNs: 429,809 domains load Google's copies and cdnjs together, and 338,975 pair Google with jsDelivr, based on our October 2026 crawl.

Which countries use Google Hosted Libraries the most?

The United States, with 305,166 of the 887,999 companies we matched (34.37%), then the United Kingdom (86,506), Canada (37,485), India (37,259) and Australia (34,808). Germany, Brazil and France follow with about 31,000 each. The US share is higher than on our cdnjs (27.89%) or jsDelivr (27.33%) profiles, so Google's CDN leans more American than its rivals.

What size companies use Google Hosted Libraries?

Mostly very small ones. 64.42% of matched companies with a known size have 1 to 10 employees and 23.16% have 11 to 50, so 87.58% have 50 or fewer. That's more micro-heavy than cdnjs (58.17%) or jsDelivr (56.35%). Still, 8,997 companies have more than 1,000 staff, including Wipro, Cisco, Honeywell and Mondelez International, usually on a single site or subdomain.

How old are companies that use Google Hosted Libraries?

Among matched companies with a known founding year, the largest group was founded in the 2010s (37.73%), then the 2000s (18.42%) and the 2020s (17.01%). 26.85% predate 2000, and 22,366 were founded before 1960. That's an older base than the jsDelivr (21.57% from the 2020s) or Unpkg (22.65%) profiles, in line with a CDN serving mostly older jQuery builds.

What is the ideal customer profile for Google Hosted Libraries?

The ideal Google Hosted Libraries customer is: Company Size: 1-10 employees (64.42%), Location: US, then UK, Canada, India, Founded: 2010-2019 (37.73%), Industry: Retail, construction, real estate, Front-end: jQuery site (98.84%) — based on our analysis of 887,999 enriched companies at TechnologyChecker.io.

What is Google Hosted Libraries' market share?

7.9% of the CDN category, 4th of the 60 services we track, on 1,656,543 domains. Cloudflare leads with 10,497,906, but Cloudflare is a proxy that sites sit behind. Among library CDNs Google's is third, behind cdnjs (2,276,149) and jsDelivr (2,012,188, after its page removed for-sale and gambling domains), and ahead of the jQuery CDN (863,027).

What is Ajax Googleapis?

ajax.googleapis.com is the host name of Google Hosted Libraries, a content delivery network Google runs for popular open-source JavaScript libraries. A site adds a script tag such as ajax.googleapis.com/ajax/libs/jquery/3.7.1/jquery.min.js and the visitor's browser fetches the file from Google. We find that host on 1,656,543 domains in our October 2026 crawl, mostly fetching jQuery.

Is Ajax Googleapis com safe?

The host is Google's own, and Google says it takes library releases from each project's maintainers. Its terms page says requests are unauthenticated, cookies are used only for security and abuse prevention, and referrer data is removed before logging. The bigger risk is the version a site picks: in our sample, 71.75% of versioned jQuery loads from it were older than 3.5.0, which fixed a cross-site scripting issue.

What is Googleapis com domain?

googleapis.com is Google's domain for API and resource hosts. The subdomain ajax.googleapis.com serves Google Hosted Libraries, the public script CDN, and Google uses separate resource-specific domains so these requests stay apart from its other services. Seeing it in a browser's network tab usually means the page loads jQuery or Google's Web Font Loader, the two files behind 97.26% of our path sample.

Is jQuery still used in 2026?

Very much so on this CDN. jQuery runs on 98.84% of the 1,631,171 live domains in our clean Google Hosted Libraries set, and 3,713 of the 4,996 domains in our file-path sample fetched jQuery itself from Google. Most of those copies are old: 45.41% of the versioned loads were jQuery 1.x, and only 306 were on the 3.7 line.

Is jQuery end of life?

No. jQuery's download page offers version 4.0.0 as the latest release. Google's hosted list stops at 3.7.1, though, and when we requested 4.0.0 from ajax.googleapis.com on 13 October 2026 it returned a 404. Sites that want jQuery 4 from a CDN have to use jQuery's own CDN or another host, or bundle it themselves.

Which CDN does Google use?

For its hosted JavaScript libraries, Google uses its own servers at ajax.googleapis.com. When we requested jQuery 3.7.1 from it on 13 October 2026, a Google server (header sffe) answered with a one-year cache and an open CORS header, as Google's documentation describes. Google lists 23 libraries there, including jQuery, three.js and the Web Font Loader. Our crawl finds the host on 1,656,543 domains.

Is Google Hosted Libraries free?

Google lists no price, plan or sign-up for it: its page says to copy a script tag, and requests are unauthenticated. That's why this page counts sites, not customers. The cost shows up elsewhere, in a third-party request on every page and, for many sites, an old pinned version. 71.75% of versioned jQuery loads in our sample predate 3.5.0.

How does TechnologyChecker.io detect Google Hosted Libraries?

We count a domain when a page loads a script from ajax.googleapis.com/ajax/libs/ or links a stylesheet on that path. A bare preconnect hint to the host doesn't count. For the file mix we logged one example path per domain from the host over 45 days: 74.32% of 4,996 were jQuery and 22.94% Google's Web Font Loader.
