Stripe's February 2026 annual letter disclosed $1.9 trillion in total volume and a $159 billion valuation, so the timing is right to look at what our independent data says about who's actually using it.

1. Growth trajectory

Patrick and John Collison founded Stripe in 2010. Our first detection appeared that same February. Growth was modest through 2017, around 7,000 active domains. Then it picked up. By 2019: 19,000. During the pandemic, active domains tripled in under two years (19,700 in January 2020 to 71,274 by December 2021).
