Companies Using Shogun Frontend
Shogun Frontend was Shogun's headless storefront product, and Shogun announced its retirement in March 2023. Our October 2026 crawl still finds Shogun's files on 2,714 live domains. They come from Shogun Page Builder, the company's drag-and-drop builder for Shopify and BigCommerce stores: product images served from Shogun's image CDN, plus the stylesheet and script the builder publishes for each store. Below is the list of companies that use Shogun Frontend as our rule counts them, with size, country, industry and stack. It includes Aman's online shop, Mamas & Papas, UNTUCKit, King's Hawaiian and the Philadelphia Museum of Art's store.
79.82% of these domains also run Shopify and 19.54% run BigCommerce. Shogun Frontend is 3rd of the 15 tools in our Headless Commerce table with 14.76%, behind Hyvä Themes and GemCommerce. That table puts a Magento theme, two Shopify page builders, a Shopify upsell app and Adobe's PWA Studio side by side, so read its ranks as footprints, not as head-to-head choices.

Shogun Frontend Usage Statistics
Shogun Frontend reads 2,228 domains in June 2026, 2,537 in July, 2,722 in August, 2,745 in September and 2,714 in October. The step from June to August reflects changes on our side, both the domains we cover and the signals we detect Shogun with, rather than a surge in adoption; the set of domains we crawl also turns over every month, with dead sites dropping out and new ones added. Since August it has stayed between 2,714 and 2,745. Since we began tracking it on 16 March 2026, 465 domains have dropped it on at least one hostname, though 33 of them still run it on another.

Which countries use Shogun Frontend the most? The United States, with 771 of the 1,203 companies we matched (64.09%). The United Kingdom has 117, Canada 63, Australia 61 and New Zealand 16. Add Ireland's 6 and English-speaking countries make up 85.95% of matched companies. Germany, the largest market outside them, has 17. Shogun's Shopify App Store listing gives English as the app's only language, which fits that map.
Share of the 1,203 Shogun Frontend domains we matched to a company record — 44.3% of the 2,714 we detect. Top 15 countries shown, so these do not sum to 100%. Domains with no matching company record are not represented here and skew small and independent.
Shogun Frontend Market Share Among Headless Commerce
What is Shogun Frontend's market share? 14.76% of Headless Commerce, 3rd of the 15 tools we track there at TechnologyChecker.io. Hyvä Themes leads with 6,689 domains and GemCommerce has 5,737, 2.11 times Shogun's 2,714. Only GemCommerce, the maker of GemPages, sells the same thing, a page builder for Shopify stores. Hyvä is a Magento theme, MonkCommerce (1,761) an upsell app and PWA Studio (568) Adobe's toolkit for headless Magento storefronts, so the share is a footprint in a mixed table.

Older brands are a real slice: 7.18% were founded before 1960, among them the Philadelphia Museum of Art (1876), Vienna Beef (1893), Berlin Packaging (1898) and Draper Tools (1919).
What Industries Use Shogun Frontend the Most?
Retail leads at 13.46%, then Retail Apparel and Fashion (6.98%), Manufacturing (5.28%) and Wellness and Fitness Services (4.99%), based on our enriched company data. No industry reaches 14%. The companies sell their own products through their own stores: clothing, bread, tools, packaging.
Apparel brands using Shogun include UNTUCKit, Cleo, Ricki's, Northern Reflections and AS Colour. Food and drink companies on Shogun include King's Hawaiian, Vienna Beef, ABC Fine Wine & Spirits and Siete Foods, which runs it on its wholesale site. Manufacturers using Shogun Page Builder include Dometic, Sealey and Berlin Packaging, so it isn't only a tool for young direct-to-consumer brands.
Shogun Frontend Alternatives & Competitors

How We Counted Shogun Frontend Sites
This page keeps the name our catalogue gives the rule, Shogun Frontend, but it doesn't count Shogun Frontend sites. Shogun announced the retirement of that headless product in March 2023. A domain counts here when a page we crawl, usually its home page, shows an image whose address contains .shgcdn.com/ or loads a file from a.shgcdn2.com, the host where Shogun Page Builder publishes each store's stylesheet and script. Both are Page Builder output. When we opened the home page of all 2,634 hostnames in the cleaned set on 16 October 2026, 2,298 (87.2%) showed Page Builder content, 56 loaded only Shogun's analytics pixel, 32 showed Shogun-hosted images with no Shogun code (most likely left behind after the app was removed) and 24 no longer showed Shogun on that page.
Our catalogue files the same product under two more names, and each reads a different signal. Shogun Page Builder looks for Shogun's analytics code or its pixel script on na.shgcdn3.com, which can load on pages built without Shogun, as 56 home pages in our check showed. Shogun looks for an older script address on getshogun.com. On 16 October 2026 the Shogun Page Builder row held 18,813 live domains, the Shogun row 452 and this one 2,672 before cleaning. 19,246 domains carry at least one of the three, so this page covers about one in seven of the sites our crawl links to Shogun. So a store that installs Shogun but builds only landing pages, not its home page, can sit in the Page Builder row and not in this one. Timbuk2's home page is an example: it loads Shogun's pixel and none of the images or files this rule needs.
Before computing anything we removed 26 of the 2,672 domains the rule matched, pages titled as domains for sale or gambling sites, which left 2,646 for the company, country, industry and stack figures. The 2,714 headline is the October figure from our Headless Commerce table; the snapshot we analysed held 2,672 matches before cleaning. In the home-page check, 67 hostnames (2.5%) were dead, parked, closed or gambling pages, a few of them copies of another store's site on gambling domains, and 157 timed out, blocked us or sent our visit to Google. They stay in the count until a later crawl drops them. Brands also register extra domains that point at one store: 53 domains in the set lead to one bottle wholesaler's store (dropperbottles.com), 29 to Multipure's and 15 belong to Crockett & Jones. The 2,449 domains with a page title carry 1,785 distinct titles, so there are fewer separate stores than domains.
Expert Analysis: Shogun Frontend Growth Trends & Key Signals for Sales Teams in 2026

I pulled Shogun Frontend out of our October 2026 crawl expecting a list of headless storefronts. There isn't one. Shogun announced Frontend's retirement in March 2023, and what the rule finds today is the company's other product, Shogun Page Builder. A domain counts when a page we crawl shows an image from Shogun's image CDN (i.shgcdn.com) or loads a file from a.shgcdn2.com, where the builder keeps each store's stylesheet and script. That gives 2,714 live domains in October 2026, 1,203 of them matched to a company, 3rd of 15 in Headless Commerce.
A name that outlived its product
Shogun Labs listed Page Builder on the Shopify App Store on 21 September 2015 and went through Y Combinator in Winter 2018. In February 2020 its investor Initialized Capital announced a Series A alongside Shogun's second product, Frontend, a way to build headless stores. By the $35 million Series B in October 2020, led by Accel, Shogun described two core products, Page Builder and Frontend. On 23 March 2023 Finbarr Taylor wrote that Shogun would retire Frontend after launching more than 50 storefronts, keep it running for 9 to 12 months, and put its whole focus on Page Builder, which he said more than 35,000 brands used.
To check what the rule catches, I opened the home page of every hostname in the cleaned set on 16 October 2026, 2,634 of them. 2,298 (87.2%) showed Page Builder content: its stylesheet and script, or Shogun-hosted images next to its analytics code. 56 loaded only Shogun's analytics pixel, and 32 showed Shogun-hosted images with no Shogun code at all, which is what a store that removed the app but kept its pictures looks like. 67 (2.5%) were dead, parked, closed or gambling pages. So the catalogue name is a leftover.
Sales signal: treat this as a Shogun Page Builder list. Pitching headless migration work to these domains because of the catalogue name will miss; they build pages inside an ordinary Shopify or BigCommerce theme.
Flat since August
The chart reads 2,228 in June, 2,537 in July, 2,722 in August, 2,745 in September and 2,714 in October. The step from June to August reflects changes on our side, both the domains we cover and the signals we detect Shogun with, rather than a surge in adoption, and the set of domains we crawl turns over every month as dead sites drop out and new ones come in. Since August the line has barely moved. 465 domains have dropped Shogun on at least one hostname since we started tracking it in March 2026; 33 of them still run it on another hostname, and 136 of the 432 that dropped it everywhere still load Shogun's analytics pixel.
"Shogun stopped selling Frontend in 2023, and we still file 2,714 domains under its name. Nearly nine in ten of the home pages I opened carried Page Builder content." - Emma Davies, Data Analyst at TechnologyChecker.io
Sales signal: plan on a steady pool of about 2,700 storefronts whose crawled pages are built with Shogun. Nothing here supports pitching it as a fast-growing segment.
Who the customers are
53.97% of matched companies with a known size have 1 to 10 employees and 28.62% have 11 to 50, so 82.59% have 50 staff or fewer. That's still a bigger-company base than GemCommerce's, where 65.93% sit in the smallest band. Shogun's customers are also older than those of the other Shopify tools in this category: only 10.49% were founded in the 2020s, against 29.06% for GemCommerce and 18.54% for MonkCommerce, and 7.18% were founded before 1960: the Philadelphia Museum of Art (1876), Vienna Beef (1893), Berlin Packaging (1898), Draper Tools (1919), ABC Fine Wine & Spirits (1936). 16 companies have more than 1,000 staff, among them Aman, Dometic, Shoe Palace and Mamas & Papas.
I checked the brands Shogun itself has named. Its 2020 funding release listed Leesa, MVMT, Timbuk2 and Chubbies. On 16 October 2026 none of their home pages carried the images or files this rule looks for; only Timbuk2's loaded anything from Shogun, its analytics pixel. Nextbase, the dash-cam maker Shogun now features in a case study, does load Shogun Page Builder on its BigCommerce home page.
Sales signal: these are established merchants with a marketing team that builds its own pages. Agencies and app vendors selling page design, CRO or content operations will find a buyer who already pays for tooling rather than one starting from a free theme.
Where they are and what they sell
The United States has 771 of the 1,203 matched companies (64.09%). The United Kingdom has 117, Canada 63, Australia 61 and New Zealand 16; with Ireland's 6, English-speaking countries make up 85.95%. Germany, the largest market outside them, has 17. Retail leads the industries at 13.46%, then Retail Apparel and Fashion (6.98%), Manufacturing (5.28%) and Wellness and Fitness Services (4.99%). There's a wholesale and B2B thread as well: Berlin Packaging, Universal Companies' spa and salon supplies, Tapco's parking and traffic products, Siete Foods' wholesale site.
Sales signal: an English-language list, mostly North American. For localisation or cross-border tools, the 17 German and 10 French companies are too few to build a campaign on; the UK and Australia are the second markets to work.
Switching: nothing to report
We publish no switching rows for Shogun. The only overlap in this category worth naming is GemCommerce: two domains run both today, out of six ever seen with both, too few to call a direction. Of the 432 domains that dropped Shogun everywhere since March, 291 still run Shopify and 136 still load Shogun's pixel, so many took Shogun content off the page we crawl rather than leaving Shogun. Only a handful now run another builder we track: GemPages on two or three, Zipify Pages on one, and PageFly, Replo, Instant and EComposer on none.
"Of 432 domains that dropped Shogun since March, 136 still load its pixel and at most four run another page builder we track. Its leavers aren't going to a rival in any number we can see." - Emma Davies, Data Analyst at TechnologyChecker.io
Sales signal: there's no visible exodus to sell into. Rival builders should target Shogun stores on fit (BigCommerce support, page caps, price) rather than on a churn story the data doesn't show.
The stack around it
Shopify runs on 79.82% of live Shogun domains and BigCommerce on 19.54%, about one in five. GemCommerce's and MonkCommerce's domains are all Shopify, so this is the one page in the category with a real BigCommerce base. Our Shopify migration analysis covers how stores move between those two platforms. The CMS group lists Shogun Page Builder on 85.53% and Shogun on 12.09%, two more catalogue rows for the same product. Google Analytics is on 78.38%, LazySizes on 59.03% (theme image loading), Instafeed on 7.67% and Elevar's server-side tracking on 2.27%.
Sales signal: BigCommerce agencies and app developers get a pre-qualified list of 517 domains here, stores that already pay for a third-party builder on top of their platform.
What merchants pay
Shogun's pricing page (16 October 2026) lists a free Draft Mode that can't publish, then Build at $39 a month for 25 published pages, Grow at $199 and Advanced at $499, both with unlimited pages; yearly billing brings them to $31, $159 and $399. A/B Testing and Personalization are priced separately. The Shopify App Store listing shows 4.8 stars from 1,974 reviews.
Sales signal: the jump from Build to Grow is $160 a month for unlimited pages. A store near its 25-page cap is choosing between that upgrade and a cheaper builder, which is the moment a rival's pitch lands.
Key takeaways
1. 2,714 live domains, 3rd of 15 in Headless Commerce, but the count is Shogun Page Builder; Frontend's retirement was announced in March 2023.
2. Small, established merchants: 53.97% have 1 to 10 staff, only 10.49% were founded in the 2020s.
3. 64.09% of matched companies are American and 85.95% are in English-speaking countries.
4. One domain in five runs BigCommerce, which sets Shogun apart from the Shopify-only builders and apps in this table.
5. No switching corridor: two domains run Shogun and GemCommerce together today.

Does Shogun work with BigCommerce?
Yes. Shogun's pricing page has separate Shopify and BigCommerce plans, and in our crawl 517 Shogun domains, 19.54% of the 2,646 we analysed, also run BigCommerce. GemCommerce's and MonkCommerce's domains, by contrast, are all Shopify. BigCommerce stores on our list include Alfred Dunner and Wilcom. Shogun Frontend also ran on BigCommerce before it was retired.
What is headless commerce, and was Shogun Frontend part of it?
Headless commerce splits the storefront shoppers see from the backend that holds products, carts and checkout, joined by APIs. Shogun Frontend was that kind of product: a packaged storefront and content system, announced in February 2020, that sat in front of Shopify, BigCommerce and other backends. Shogun Page Builder, which our rule counts, builds pages inside a store's normal theme.
Shogun vs GemPages: which do more stores use?
GemPages, on our count. GemCommerce, the company behind GemPages, sits on 5,737 domains in our October 2026 crawl, 2.11 times Shogun's 2,714. The customers differ too: 19.54% of Shogun domains run BigCommerce, while GemCommerce's are all Shopify. Shogun's matched companies are also older, with 10.49% founded in the 2020s against 29.06% for GemCommerce.
