Mostly small sites. On our data, 73.22% of matched companies with a known size have 1 to 10 employees, and construction, retail and IT services lead the industries. Larger users usually run it on one site: Metrobank, IRIS Software Group, Parkson Malaysia and Dokuz Eylül University all served a live Statcounter snippet when we checked on 6 November 2026.

60,032 domains in our November 2026 crawl, after removing 175,897 for-sale and gambling pages and 27,493 parked, duplicate and fleet domains from a raw 263,422. They are domains, not paying customers, since the Basic plan is free. 30,433 match a company. In a fresh random 40, 33 of the 37 that answered ran a live snippet.

Statcounter holds 0.32% of Web Analytics at TechnologyChecker.io, 17th. Google Analytics has 62.27%, Cloudflare Browser Insights 11.77% and WordPress.com Stats 3.97%. The denominator counts every tool on every domain, so a site running Statcounter beside Google Analytics adds to both rows.

By footprint in our Web Analytics data: Google Analytics (11,576,555 domains), Cloudflare Browser Insights (2,187,989), WordPress.com Stats (738,102) and Site Kit (657,371). Closer to Statcounter's size are Adobe Analytics (94,975), Quantcast Measure (81,246) and Ahrefs Analytics (80,290). Many Statcounter sites already run a second tag: Google Tag Manager is on 46.11% of them.

The United States, with 12,353 of the 30,433 companies we matched, then the United Kingdom (4,369), India (1,743), Canada (1,396) and the Netherlands (1,164). The US, UK, Canada and Australia together hold 19,161, or 63.0% of matched companies. The Netherlands ranks above France (416) and Germany (379).

Small ones. 73.22% of matched companies with a known size have 1 to 10 employees and 19.01% have 11 to 50, so 92.23% have 50 or fewer. Only 150 have more than 1,000 staff, and those often run it on a single site, such as a university library or an investor relations page.

Mostly founded between 2000 and 2019. Of matched companies with a founding year, 38.76% started in the 2010s and 27.96% in the 2000s. Only 9.2% were founded in the 2020s, and 24.06% predate 2000, so the base leans to companies that set up their websites some years ago.

On our data, a business with 1 to 10 staff, founded in the 2010s, in construction, retail or IT services, based in the US, UK, India or Canada, with a WordPress site (44.7% of domains) built on jQuery (76.68%) and hosted on Apache or LiteSpeed. A second, smaller group is government and university sites running it on one department's pages.

Yes, for small sites. Statcounter's pricing page lists a Basic plan that is free forever, with 5,000 sessions a month and 14 days of data retention. Premium plans start at €9 a month for 20,000 sessions and keep three years of data, according to the same page read on 6 November 2026.

View the page source and look for sc_project, the variable that holds the site's Statcounter project number, and a script loading counter.js from statcounter.com. In a browser's network panel a live install also sends a request to c.statcounter.com/t.php carrying that number. Our crawler reads the same script and variables.

Yes. Our November 2026 crawl counts 60,032 domains, and in a random 40 checked on 6 November 2026, 33 ran a live snippet. Since 16 March 2026, 19,409 domains dropped it entirely, but the set of domains we crawl turns over each month, so that number is turnover, not a measured decline.

Often. Google Tag Manager, the usual loader for Google Analytics tags, is on 46.11% of Statcounter's clean domains in our data, and Google Analytics is the largest row in the same category with 11,576,555 domains. Statcounter's pricing page lists real-time visitor feeds on its free Basic plan.
