Yandex.Metrika Usage Statistics

Yandex launched Metrika in 2008 and opened it to the public in 2009, which is where our detection history really begins: 11 active domains in mid-2009, 836 a year later, then a decade of steady climbing to 189,761 active domains by July 2024. Read the right side of this chart carefully. The gap between July 2025 and June 2026 is where we retired a third-party feed and switched to our own crawler, and our total crawl coverage grew 18% between June and July 2026, so a large part of the final step to 288,084 is measurement catching up rather than new adoption.

Which Countries Use Yandex.Metrika the Most?

Which countries use Yandex.Metrika the most? Russia leads with 26.88% of enriched customers, but second place is the surprise: Turkey at 10.26%, ahead of the United States (9.1%) and Germany (6.05%). Counting Belarus, Kazakhstan, Uzbekistan, Ukraine and Armenia alongside Russia, the CIS bloc reaches 38.9%. Treat that as a floor rather than a ceiling. LinkedIn has been blocked in Russia since 2016, so our enrichment layer systematically misses the companies most likely to run Metrika.

Yandex.Metrika Market Share Among Web Analytics

What is Yandex.Metrika's market share? Yandex.Metrika holds a 1.81% share of the web analytics market and ranks #7 of the 50 tools we track in the category, far behind Google Analytics at 67.67% but ahead of Statcounter and Adobe Analytics. That global ranking undersells the reality, because inside Russia and the CIS Metrika works as a default rather than an alternative, based on our monthly crawl of 29.9M active domains at TechnologyChecker.io.

Yandex.Metrika Customers by Company Size & Age

Is Yandex.Metrika only for small sites? Mostly, yes. 45.3% of enriched customers have 10 or fewer employees and another 29.8% have 11 to 50, putting three quarters of the base under 50 staff. Metrika is free with no paid tier, which removes the budget conversation entirely. Large deployments still exist: MTS Group, X5 Group and Turkey's Ministry of National Education all report 10,001+ headcount, based on our analysis of 48,223 enriched companies.

What Industries Use Yandex.Metrika the Most?

IT Services and IT Consulting tops the list at 6.95%, followed by Technology, Information and Internet (4.17%) and Advertising Services (4.1%). Nothing clears 7%, which makes Metrika about as horizontal as a tool gets. The top three categories being agencies and IT shops also hints at how it spreads: it's installed by people building sites for other people, based on our enriched company data.

Technology, Information and Internet1,736 (4.17%)
Advertising Services1,709 (4.1%)
Software Development1,561 (3.75%)

Retail1,089 (2.62%)

IT services brands using Yandex.Metrika form the largest single vertical at 6.95%, and advertising agencies on Yandex.Metrika follow at 4.1%, which fits a tracker bundled into client site builds. Retail companies using Yandex.Metrika account for 2.62%, with construction (2.53%) and real estate (2.21%) close behind. X5 Group, one of Russia's largest grocery retailers, sits among those retail detections.

Yandex.Metrika Alternatives & Competitors

Google Analytics is the only tool in this category operating at a different order of magnitude, holding 67.67% against Metrika's 1.81%, based on our market share data across 29.9M active domains. Cloudflare Browser Insights (11.2%) ranks second, though it's largely a switch inside a CDN dashboard rather than a product anyone shops for. Among tools people actively choose, Metrika sits nearer Matomo Analytics (1.9%) and Statcounter (1.2%).

Yandex.Metrika Customer Migration

Across the 12,138 domains we've watched drop Yandex.Metrika since March 2026, the largest inbound flow is 6,017 domains arriving from Cloudflare Browser Insights against 1,064 going the other way. Read that corridor with care, because Browser Insights is a toggle inside Cloudflare rather than a purchase, so it tracks CDN configuration more than vendor preference. The corridor that reflects a real decision is Google Analytics, where Metrika runs net negative at 1,988 gained against 2,866 lost.

Tech Stack of Yandex.Metrika-Powered Websites

Based on a sample of 100,000 domains running Yandex.Metrika, the co-installed software says more than the analytics choice itself. Tilda appears on 11.63% of them against Wix at 0.6%, and 1C-Bitrix on 10.02% against Shopify at 0.39%, even though Shopify holds roughly 46% of the global ecommerce market. JivoChat (5.43%) outranks Intercom (0.22%) by 25 to 1. These pairings identify a regional software stack that barely overlaps with the Western default.

Expert Analysis: Yandex.Metrika Growth Trends & Key Signals for Sales Teams in 2026

David Thomson
David ThomsonCTO, TechnologyChecker

I've spent a decade building crawling and technographic systems, and Yandex.Metrika is one of the few technologies where the headline count tells you almost nothing on its own. As of our July 2026 crawl we see it on 288,084 active domains, of which 48,223 matched a company profile in our enrichment layer. That 16.5% match rate sits far below our usual rate, and the reason matters more than the number: LinkedIn has been unavailable in Russia since 2016, so our enrichment is structurally blind to Metrika's home market. Read every distribution below as Metrika's international slice, with the Russian core under-counted.

Growth trajectory

Yandex launched Metrika in 2008 and opened it publicly in 2009. Our detection history lines up almost exactly: 11 active domains in mid-2009, 836 by mid-2010, then a long climb to 189,761 active domains by July 2024. There's no hockey stick anywhere in that curve, just a default tool spreading through a regional web one agency build at a time.

The right side of the chart needs a caveat. The gap between July 2025 and June 2026 is where we retired a third-party feed and moved to our own crawler, and our total coverage then grew 18% between June and July 2026, from 321.0M to 378.5M detections corpus-wide. Metrika's own jump across those months was 41%. Part of that is real, and a good share is our measurement catching up.

"The most useful thing about Metrika's growth curve is how boring it is. Eighteen years of steady compounding with no inflection point is what infrastructure looks like, not what a challenger looks like." - David Thomson, CTO at TechnologyChecker.io

Sales Signal: A stable, slowly widening market rather than a land grab. There's no urgency window to exploit, so targeting matters more than timing. Build lists from the regional stack signals below instead of chasing a spike that's partly our own crawler.

Customer profile

Of the 48,223 companies we enriched, 45.3% have 10 or fewer employees and another 29.8% have 11 to 50, putting three quarters of the base under 50 people. On age, 45.2% were founded in the 2010s and 22.9% in the 2000s. These are digital-era small firms, not legacy enterprises that inherited a tracker.

The enterprise tail is thin but real: 0.5% report 10,001+ staff. MTS Group, Megafon, X5 Group, Tinkoff and Kaspersky all appear in our detections, as does Turkey's Ministry of National Education on meb.gov.tr. IndiaMART, Kenya Airways and Flydubai show the reach extends past the CIS. Yandex publishes no customer case study library, so unlike most vendors we profile there's nothing first-party to cross-check against. Every company named here comes from our own crawl.

Sales Signal: The typical Metrika site is a small firm founded after 2010 that wanted session recording without a procurement conversation. They didn't pick Metrika over Amplitude, they picked it over nothing. Free-tier-first pricing converts here. Enterprise-first pricing will not.

Industry and geographic concentration

No industry clears 7%. IT Services and IT Consulting leads at 6.95%, with Technology, Information and Internet at 4.17% and Advertising Services at 4.1%. Agencies and IT shops holding the top three tells you how Metrika spreads: it's installed by people building websites for other people.

Geography is where this data earns its keep. Russia leads at 26.88%, which surprises nobody. Turkey at 10.26% should. Turkey outranks the United States (9.1%) and Germany (6.05%), and it isn't a rounding artifact: 4,049 Turkish companies against 3,593 American ones. With Belarus, Kazakhstan, Uzbekistan, Ukraine and Armenia, the CIS bloc reaches 38.9%, a figure held down by the LinkedIn gap.

Sales Signal: Turkey is the underserved opening here. It's the second largest Metrika market we can measure, it carries no LinkedIn blind spot distorting the count, and almost nobody selling analytics or consent tooling builds a Turkish go-to-market. Filter for Turkish domains running Metrika alongside 1C-Bitrix or Tilda.

Migration patterns

We began watching this technology in March 2026 and have recorded 12,138 domains dropping Metrika since. That window is shallow but current, and I'd rather report it honestly than stretch it. The largest inbound number, 6,017 domains from Cloudflare Browser Insights against 1,064 leaving for it, carries a caveat: Browser Insights is a toggle inside a Cloudflare dashboard, so it reflects CDN configuration more than a buying decision.

The corridor reflecting a genuine choice is Google Analytics, where Metrika runs net negative at 1,988 gained against 2,866 lost. Matomo Analytics runs the other way, 296 gained to 45 lost, and Liveinternet is near balanced. For how analytics migrations play out more broadly in our data, see our GA4 migration analysis.

"Metrika loses to Google Analytics and gains from Matomo. That's the signature of a tool people keep for its features and leave for reasons that have nothing to do with the product." - David Thomson, CTO at TechnologyChecker.io

Sales Signal: There's a two-sided play. The 2,866 domains that left for Google Analytics are in a buying cycle right now. The 6,017 arriving from Browser Insights discovered that CDN metrics weren't enough, which makes them candidates for real funnel reporting.

Technology ecosystem

This section reframes everything above it. Sampling 100,000 Metrika domains, the co-installed software isn't a variation on the Western stack, it's a separate one. Tilda appears on 11.63% against Wix at 0.6%. 1C-Bitrix runs on 10.02% against Shopify at 0.39%, though Shopify holds roughly 46% of the global ecommerce market. JivoChat sits at 5.43% against Intercom at 0.22%, and ADFOX, Yandex's own ad server, leads advertising at 5.31%.

WordPress is the single bridge between the two worlds at 25.09%. Everything else inverts the global category ranking. Build a target account list from Western category leaders and you'll miss this population entirely.

Sales Signal: The underrepresented categories are the upsell. Consent management, A/B testing and product analytics show almost no overlap on these domains, so those needs are either unmet or served by regional tools we should be tracking. Integrations with Tilda and 1C-Bitrix buy distribution that cold outreach won't.

G2 review signals

Metrika holds 4.2 out of 5 on G2 from 37 reviews, so treat the detail as directional. Praise clusters on ease of setup and on session replay and heatmaps arriving free, capabilities Microsoft Clarity and Hotjar built whole products around. Criticism is more concentrated still: four of the five recorded cons call the interface cluttered.

Our crawl supports the first half: a free tool with session replay that installs in minutes is what a small agency-built site adopts, and 45.3% of this base runs 10 people or fewer. The second half shows in the churn, where usability complaints sit alongside a net loss of 878 domains to Google Analytics.

Sales Signal: Interface friction on a free product is a services opening, not a rip-and-replace pitch. Nobody tears out a free tool that collects good data. Sell the layer above it: dashboards, scheduled reporting and consent workflows.

Key takeaways

1. Position: #7 of 50 web analytics tools at 1.81% share, a regional default rather than a global challenger.
2. Growth phase: Maturing and steady, and the recent step is partly our own coverage expansion.
3. Core customer: A sub-50-employee firm founded in the 2010s, often built by an agency or IT shop.
4. Moat: Free session replay and heatmaps, plus tight coupling to Yandex Direct and ADFOX inside a self-contained regional stack.
5. Vulnerability: A net negative exchange with Google Analytics and one concentrated usability complaint.
6. Caveat: Our LinkedIn enrichment cannot see Russian companies, so treat every distribution as the international slice.

Sales applications

Outreach angle: "You're running Yandex.Metrika alongside 1C-Bitrix, so you already have session recordings. Most teams in your segment tell us the problem is getting reports out, not collecting the data." Lead with the friction the reviews confirm, not a replacement.

Targeting strategy: On TechnologyChecker.io, filter for Metrika plus Tilda or 1C-Bitrix and restrict to Turkey and Kazakhstan. That isolates the regional stack in markets with no LinkedIn blind spot, so list quality holds. A size filter of 11 to 200 captures the segment with budget above the free-tool tier.

Competitive angle: The 2,866 domains that moved from Metrika to Google Analytics have already proven they'll change analytics vendors. They're the warmest segment in this dataset.

All figures here come from TechnologyChecker.io's own detection engine: 288,084 active Yandex.Metrika domains and 48,223 enriched company profiles, drawn from a crawl of 29.9M active domains and more than 40,000 tracked technologies.

Is Yandex Metrica free?

Yes. Yandex.Metrika is completely free with no paid tier, no traffic ceiling and no feature gate on session recording or heatmaps. That pricing model explains a lot of what we see in our data: 45.3% of the companies we enriched have 10 or fewer employees, a segment that rarely budgets for analytics software at all.

What is Yandex Metrica used for?

Yandex.Metrika tracks website traffic and user behaviour. Beyond standard sessions and conversions it includes Webvisor session recording, click heatmaps, scroll maps and form analytics as standard features. Site owners also use it to connect Yandex Direct ad spend to on-site results, which is why we find it alongside Yandex's ADFOX ad server on 5.31% of Metrika domains.

How does Yandex Metrica compare to Google Analytics?

Google Analytics is far larger, at 67.67% of the web analytics market against Metrika's 1.81% in our data. The practical difference is scope: Metrika bundles session replay and heatmaps that Google leaves to separate tools. Our migration data shows the exchange favours Google, with 2,866 domains leaving Metrika for it against 1,988 arriving.

Is Yandex Metrica still used in 2026?

Yes, and heavily. TechnologyChecker.io detects Yandex.Metrika on 288,084 active domains as of our July 2026 crawl, ranking it #7 among the 50 web analytics tools we track. Usage has climbed steadily since 2009 with no decline visible in our detection history, though growth is concentrated in Russia, Turkey and the CIS rather than globally.

Is Yandex Metrica GDPR compliant?

Yandex publishes a Data Processing Agreement and GDPR guidance for Metrika, and offers EU-based processing for customers who need it. Compliance still depends on your own setup: consent collection, IP anonymisation and data transfer terms are configured by you, not by default. If you operate under GDPR, review the DPA and your consent flow before deploying.

Is Yandex Metrica safe to use?

It depends on your threat model, and there is a documented incident worth knowing. In 2025, researchers at IMDEA Networks and Radboud University found that Yandex apps on Android silently listened on local ports, letting web tracking scripts bridge browsing data to persistent app identifiers. Yandex ended the practice after disclosure. Review your privacy posture before deploying.

What is Webvisor in Yandex Metrica?

Webvisor is Metrika's built-in session recording tool. It replays real visitor sessions, including mouse movement, scrolling, clicks and form interaction, in the same interface as your traffic reports. It's the feature reviewers cite most often on G2, largely because competing products such as Hotjar and Microsoft Clarity built entire businesses around the same capability.

Do you need a Yandex account to use Metrica?

Yes. Metrika requires a free Yandex account, and you add a JavaScript counter to your site or install it through a tag manager. Setup is quick enough that ease of installation is one of the most praised points in its G2 reviews. Most CMS platforms in our data reach it through a plugin or a native integration.

Is Yandex Metrica easy to learn?

Reviews split on this. Ease of setup and fast reporting draw consistent praise on G2, but four of the five recorded criticisms describe the interface as cluttered or unintuitive. In practice the initial install is simple while the reporting depth takes time. Teams that only need core traffic numbers tend to report the smoothest experience.

Which CMS platforms work with Yandex Metrica?

Our co-occurrence data shows WordPress leading at 25.09% of sampled Metrika domains, followed by Tilda at 11.63%, Joomla at 2.21% and Drupal at 1.18%. On the commerce side, 1C-Bitrix appears on 10.02% and WooCommerce on 4.1%. Tilda and 1C-Bitrix are regional platforms that far outrank Wix and Shopify within this user base.

Is AppMetrica the same as Yandex Metrica?

No, they're separate products with separate setup. Yandex.Metrika measures websites, while AppMetrica handles mobile app analytics and attribution for iOS and Android apps. The two share a vendor and some interface conventions, but neither one reports the other's data. The 288,084 domains TechnologyChecker.io detects refer to website Metrika counters only, so AppMetrica installations are not counted anywhere on this page.

Can you use Yandex Metrica and Google Analytics together?

Yes, and many sites do. The two counters are independent JavaScript tags with no conflict, so running both is a common pattern for teams that want Metrika's session replay next to Google's reporting and integrations. Expect the two to report slightly different session counts, since each applies its own filtering and attribution rules.

Does Yandex Metrica work outside Russia?

Yes. Metrika has an English interface and works on any site regardless of location. Our enriched data shows real international spread: Turkey accounts for 10.26% of customers, the United States 9.1% and Germany 6.05%. Detections include Kenya Airways, Flydubai, IndiaMART and Sany Group, so usage extends well beyond Russian-language websites.

Who owns Yandex Metrica?

Yandex.Metrika is part of Yandex's Russian business. In July 2024 Yandex N.V. completed a $5.4 billion sale of its Russia-based operations to a consortium of Russian investors, and the remaining international entity renamed itself Nebius Group. Metrika went with the Russian business, so it is now operated by the Russian Yandex rather than a Nasdaq-listed parent.
