Companies Using VitePress
VitePress is the Vue team's free, MIT-licensed static site generator, and our October 2026 crawl finds it on 1,970 live domains. Nobody buys VitePress, so what we count is sites. Nearly half of them, 926, sit on a docs-style hostname such as docs., help., wiki. or developer., which is the job its default theme was built for. Below is the list of companies that use VitePress, among them Workato (docs.workato.com), Shopware (developer.shopware.com), KNIME (docs.knime.com) and Jabra (developer.jabra.com).
The 1,970 leaves out 558 domains, 555 of them domain-for-sale pages. Efty, a domain marketplace, builds its for-sale pages with VitePress, so every name it lists looks like a VitePress site to a crawler; How We Counted, at the foot of the page, has the detail. Our Static Site Generators table still shows the raw 2,454. On the cleaned count VitePress is 7th of 26 with a 0.15% share, and 66.8% of the companies we matched have 1 to 10 employees.

VitePress Usage Statistics
One point: 1,970 live domains in October 2026, counted without the domain-for-sale pages explained at the foot of this page. The monthly count behind our category table read 911 in June and 2,454 in October, but that line mixes Efty's rotating for-sale pages with real sites, and much of its rise is our side: the set of domains we crawl turns over every month, with dead sites dropping out and new ones added, and our detection widens over time. Exits we can count: 522 domains dropped VitePress after tracking began on 16 March 2026. 8 still run it on another hostname, and 349 of the others carry a for-sale title, so most of that churn is Efty listings changing hands.

Which Countries Use VitePress the Most?
Which countries use VitePress the most? The United States has the most matched companies, 163, then the United Kingdom (48), Germany (42) and France (37). The nine European countries in the table add up to 216, more than the US. China shows 21, which undercounts it: 186 of the 1,970 domains serve Chinese-language pages, and Chinese open-source and SaaS docs rarely match a company record. These counts cover the 633 matched companies with a known country.
Share of the 763 VitePress domains we matched to a company record — 38.7% of the 1,970 we detect. Top 15 countries shown, so these do not sum to 100%. Domains with no matching company record are not represented here and skew small and independent.
VitePress Market Share Among Static Site Generators
What is VitePress's market share? On the cleaned count, 0.15% of Static Site Generators, 7th of the 26 technologies we track there, counting domains at TechnologyChecker.io. Our category table still shows 2,454 and 0.19% because it includes the for-sale pages. The table is lopsided: Next.js (903,683 domains) and Astro (332,356) hold about 94% of it, and Hugo and Gatsby have about 30,000 each. VitePress does a narrower job, documentation, and its most direct rival, Docusaurus, sits in our Documentation Platforms table instead.
Top Competitors by Market Share
VitePress Customers by Company Size & Age
What size companies use VitePress? Mostly small ones. 66.8% of matched companies with a known size have 1 to 10 employees and 23.52% have 11 to 50, out of 744 with a size on record. Only 7 have more than 1,000 staff, and six of them run it on a subdomain, such as Jabra's developer portal at developer.jabra.com. A free docs tool picked by the engineers who write the docs tends to look like this: small teams, and big companies only at the edges.
Company Size Distribution
Company Age (Founded Decade)
88.13% of matched companies with a founding year date from 2010 or later: 46.08% from the 2010s and 42.05% from the 2020s, out of 497 with a year on record. The 2000s add 9.05% and only 2 companies predate 1960. That's a younger base than Eleventy's or Publii's in our data, where 66.91% and 66.5% of matched companies were founded in 2010 or later.
What Industries Use VitePress the Most?
Software Development leads at 31.29%, followed by Technology, Information and Internet (17.14%) and IT Services and IT Consulting (13.33%), so 61.76% of matched companies are software or IT firms, based on our enriched company data. The first rows outside software are Financial Services (2.72%), Computer Games (2.31%) and Blockchain Services (1.63%), and those are mostly API businesses too, publishing payment or exchange docs.
Software companies using VitePress put it where developers read: Workato's docs, Shopware's developer portal and KNIME's analytics docs. Payments companies on VitePress include PayerMax, Treezor and Stancer, each with an API reference built on it. Blockchain teams using VitePress, such as SingularityNET and iExec, publish their developer docs the same way.
VitePress Alternatives & Competitors
Only part of this table is a like-for-like comparison. Astro (25.18%) is a general web framework whose Starlight theme also builds docs, and 110 domains run Astro and VitePress today, usually a marketing site on one and docs on the other. Hugo (2.32%) and Gatsby (2.29%) are general generators and Hexo (0.09%) is a blog framework. The tool VitePress users weigh most often is Docusaurus, which our tables file under Documentation Platforms; its profile counts 6,427 domains in October 2026.

How We Counted VitePress Sites
A domain counts here when a page on it defines __VP_HASH_MAP__, the lookup table every VitePress build uses to find its page files. The signal is reliable: when we fetched the homepages, 1,887 of the 1,970 domains we kept still carried VitePress, 52 didn't respond and 31 loaded without it. The problem is a single site builder that isn't a website owner at all.
Efty, a marketplace for selling domain names, builds its for-sale pages with VitePress. A parked name forwards to a page such as efty.com/d/…/banq.com/, titled "banq.com for Sale | Make an Offer" and tagged VitePress v1.6.4, and our crawl credits the parked domain with VitePress. On 15 October 2026 our crawl had VitePress live on 2,528 domains. Our standard title filter removed 333: 330 for-sale pages (187 of them titled "… is for sale | Efty") and 3 error or redirect pages. We then fetched all 2,195 remaining homepages and removed 225 more: 147 forwarded to efty.com (60 live listings, 79 "domain sold" pages, 7 "domain not found" pages and a seller page) and 78 now show other for-sale pages, 73 of them GoDaddy's. 222 of the 225 load the same set of tools, Tailwind CSS, Google Cloud Storage and CDN and Simple Analytics, which is Efty's page template rather than 222 owners' choices.
Every chart and table on this page uses the remaining 1,970. Our Static Site Generators table is built from the 1 October count and hasn't had this correction, so it lists VitePress at 2,454 and 0.19%; on the cleaned count it is 0.15%, still 7th. The cut also took 89 rows out of the company data: for-sale names that had matched the company that once owned them, such as Boss Media AB on bossmedia.com. The 522 exits since 16 March 2026 are raw: 8 of those domains still run VitePress on another hostname, and 349 of the rest carry a for-sale title or description, so most of them are Efty listings changing hands.
Expert Analysis: VitePress Growth Trends & Key Signals for Sales Teams in 2026

I wanted a clean answer to a simple question: who runs VitePress? A domain counts in our crawl when its pages define VitePress's page lookup table, a signal every build carries. On 15 October 2026 that was 2,528 live domains. After we took out domain-for-sale pages it was 1,970, and when I fetched every one of those homepages, 1,887 still showed VitePress. 763 of the 1,970 match a company record. VitePress is free and MIT-licensed, made by the Vue team, which shipped version 1.0 in March 2024, so every number here counts sites.
A domain marketplace in the count
The biggest single user of VitePress in our raw data is Efty, a marketplace that builds its for-sale pages with VitePress. Park a name with Efty and it forwards to a listing carrying VitePress's code, so the parked name shows up as a VitePress site. 555 of the 2,528 were for-sale pages like that, about 22%. 222 of the 225 that our title filter missed load an identical set of tools, which is one template copied 222 times. 89 of the removed domains had even matched a company record, usually the business that once owned the name.
Sales signal: about a fifth of the raw VitePress domains in our crawl were parked names, and some carried a real company's name, so check any VitePress list for them. Drop anything that forwards to a marketplace before outreach.
It's a docs tool
VitePress ships with a default theme designed for technical documentation, and that's how it's used. 926 of the 1,970 domains sit on a docs-style hostname, 662 of them on docs. alone, and 47 of the 49 companies in our list run it on a subdomain. Workato's product docs, Shopware's developer portal, KNIME's analytics docs and Jabra's developer site are all VitePress. The main website is usually something else: 110 domains run Astro and VitePress today, and Next.js shows on 13.1% of VitePress domains, typically on the marketing hostname.
"On VitePress the docs team is the account. The marketing site on the same domain is usually built with something else." - Mehmet Suleyman, CEO & Co-founder at TechnologyChecker.io
Sales signal: pitch the people who own developer experience and documentation. The web team may not know VitePress is there. A VitePress detection on docs.company.com says nothing about who runs company.com.
Small, young software companies
Of the 744 matched companies with a known size, 66.8% have 1 to 10 employees and 23.52% have 11 to 50. Only 7 have more than 1,000 staff. 88.13% of those with a founding year started in 2010 or later, and 61.76% are software, internet or IT services firms. The non-software rows are API businesses too: payments companies such as PayerMax, Treezor and Stancer, and blockchain teams such as SingularityNET and iExec, all publishing developer references.
Sales signal: these are product-led companies with an API to explain. Tools for API reference generation, docs search, developer analytics and changelog publishing fit this list better than anything aimed at marketing teams.
Europe adds up to more than the US
The United States has the most matched companies, 163, but the nine European countries in our top 15 add up to 216: the United Kingdom 48, Germany 42, France 37, the Netherlands 26 and Switzerland 21 lead them. China looks small at 21 companies, but 186 of the 1,970 domains serve Chinese-language pages; Chinese open-source and SaaS docs rarely match company records. Baidu Analytics is on 5.38% of domains, which points the same way.
Sales signal: for a European docs or localisation tool, this list is unusually European for a developer product. For China, prospect from the domains themselves, because the company match won't carry you.
Shared domains, no switching
Our switching tests found nothing worth publishing. VitePress shares domains with Astro (110 today, out of 129 ever seen with both) and Hugo (27 of 34), and most of those still run both, which means two sites sharing a domain. The 522 exits since March are mostly Efty listings changing hands: 349 of the 514 that left entirely carry a for-sale title. The version tags say the base is current. Of 1,718 homepages with a version, 304 run a 2.0 alpha; vitepress.dev lists 1.6.4 as stable and 2.0.0-alpha.20 as the newest pre-release.
"About one VitePress site in six is already on a 2.0 alpha. That's a base that upgrades early, which you'd expect from teams who maintain developer docs for a living." - Mehmet Suleyman, CEO & Co-founder at TechnologyChecker.io
Sales signal: there's no churn story to sell into. Treat VitePress as a stable pool of about 2,000 docs sites and sell on what they lack.
The stack around it
Percentages are of the 1,970 cleaned domains. Vue.js is on 99.59%, which is VitePress itself. Cloudflare's CDN is on 56.75%, Fastly (which serves GitHub Pages) 18.02%, Netlify 8.73% and Vercel 9.14%. Google Analytics is on 42.54%, Cloudflare Browser Insights on 28.68%, Umami on 3.96% and Plausible on 3.86%. Search is the gap I'd look at: VitePress offers built-in local search or Algolia DocSearch, and only 7.77% of domains load DocSearch. The rest use the built-in local search, a plugin or nothing at all.
Sales signal: docs search, AI answer widgets and docs analytics have room here. Most of these sites run free hosting and free analytics, so the pitch has to start with a free tier.
What I'd take away
- 1,970 real VitePress domains, 7th of 26 static site generators with 0.15%, after removing 555 for-sale pages.
- It's a documentation tool: 926 domains on docs-style hostnames and 47 of our 50 named companies on a subdomain.
- The matched base is small software firms, 66.8% with 1 to 10 staff, and young, 88.13% founded since 2010.
- Europe's matched companies outnumber the US's, and Chinese-language sites are undercounted by company matching.
- No migration corridor; the base runs both VitePress and Astro or Next.js on one domain.
How I'd prospect this list
Filter on TechnologyChecker.io for VitePress, keep rows detected on docs., developer. or help. hostnames, and drop anything without a company match unless the domain clearly belongs to a product. Then open with the docs: "Your developer docs at docs.yourcompany.com run VitePress with local search; here's what search analytics would show you about what developers can't find." For a competitive angle, the 110 domains running Astro and VitePress together are teams with two front-end stacks to maintain, and a tool that works across both has an easy story there.
You can pull the full list of 1,970 VitePress domains and 763 matched companies on TechnologyChecker.io, with size, country and stack filters.
Frequently Asked Questions
Who uses VitePress?
Mostly software companies publishing documentation. In our October 2026 crawl VitePress runs on 1,970 live domains, and 47 of the 49 companies we list use it on a subdomain: Workato on docs.workato.com, Shopware on developer.shopware.com, KNIME on docs.knime.com and Jabra on developer.jabra.com. Software, internet and IT services firms make up 61.76% of the 763 companies we matched.
How many customers does VitePress have?
VitePress is free, so it has users rather than customers. Our October 2026 crawl finds it on 1,970 live domains, 763 of them matched to a company record, after removing 555 domain-for-sale pages, most of them Efty listings built with VitePress. Our category table, which hasn't had that correction, shows 2,454. 522 domains dropped VitePress after tracking began in March 2026, most of them for-sale listings.
What is VitePress's market share?
On the cleaned count of 1,970 domains, VitePress holds 0.15% of the Static Site Generators category in our data and ranks 7th of 26. The category table shows 0.19% because it still counts Efty's for-sale pages. Next.js (903,683 domains) and Astro (332,356) hold about 94% of the table, so every other generator, VitePress included, shares what's left.
What are the best alternatives to VitePress?
For documentation the usual comparison is Docusaurus, which is React-based and counts 6,427 domains on its profile; VitePress is Vue-based. Astro with its Starlight theme is the other common pick, and 110 domains run both Astro and VitePress today. Hugo (30,613 domains) and Gatsby (30,229) are general generators. VuePress, VitePress's predecessor, has 801 domains in our table.
Which countries use VitePress the most?
Among the 633 matched companies with a known country, the United States leads with 163, then the United Kingdom (48), Germany (42) and France (37). The nine European countries in our table add up to 216, more than the US. China shows only 21 companies, but 186 VitePress domains serve Chinese-language pages that rarely match a company record.
What size companies use VitePress?
Mostly small ones. Of the 744 matched companies with a known size, 66.8% have 1 to 10 employees and 23.52% have 11 to 50. Only 7 have more than 1,000 staff, and six of them run VitePress on a subdomain, such as Jabra's developer portal. That fits a free docs tool chosen by the engineers who maintain a product's documentation.
How old are companies that use VitePress?
Among the VitePress domains we could match to a company with a known founding date, the largest group was founded in the 2010s (46.08%), followed by the 2020s (42.05%). That matched subset is drawn from 763 companies and is not representative of all 1,970 detected domains. This suggests VitePress is most popular among relatively young companies.
What is the ideal customer profile for VitePress?
Going by our data, a software or IT company (61.76% of matched companies) with 1 to 10 employees (66.8%), founded in 2010 or later (88.13%), based in the US or Europe, publishing product or API docs on a docs., developer. or help. subdomain. Those docs usually sit behind Cloudflare and often on GitHub Pages, with Algolia DocSearch on 7.77% of domains.
Which is better, VuePress or VitePress?
The Vue team itself recommends VitePress. Its docs call VitePress the spiritual successor of VuePress 1, say VuePress 1 is deprecated and that VuePress 2 was handed to a community team. Our crawl reflects that: VitePress has 1,970 live domains after cleaning, while VuePress has 801 in our Static Site Generators table, and only 1.02% of VitePress domains still run VuePress too.
What are the key differences between VitePress and Docusaurus?
VitePress is built on Vue and Vite and comes from the Vue team; Docusaurus is built on React and is a Meta open-source project. Both turn Markdown into a docs site with a default theme. In our crawl Docusaurus is bigger, 6,427 domains on its profile against 1,970 for VitePress, and our tables file Docusaurus under Documentation Platforms.
Are Vite and Vue the same?
No. Vue is a JavaScript framework for building interfaces; Vite is a build tool and dev server that works with Vue, React and other frameworks. VitePress uses both: Vite to build and serve the site, Vue to render its pages, which is why Vue.js shows up on 99.59% of the VitePress domains in our October 2026 crawl.
What is VitePress used for?
Mainly documentation. VitePress turns Markdown into a static site with a default theme built for technical docs, and it powers the docs for Vite, Rollup, Pinia, Vitest and Vue itself. Our crawl agrees: 926 of the 1,970 VitePress domains sit on a docs-style hostname such as help., wiki. or developer., and 662 of those are on docs. itself.
Is VitePress free?
Yes. VitePress is open source under the MIT licence, published by the Vue team on GitHub, and there is no paid edition. What a team pays for is hosting and, optionally, search: in our crawl 18.02% of VitePress domains sit behind Fastly, the CDN GitHub Pages uses, and 7.77% load Algolia DocSearch, one of the two search options built into VitePress's default theme.
Why do domain-for-sale pages show up as VitePress sites?
Because Efty, a domain marketplace, builds its for-sale pages with VitePress. A parked name forwards to an Efty listing that carries VitePress's code, so a crawler credits the parked domain with VitePress. We removed 555 such pages from 2,528 raw domains on 15 October 2026, about a fifth of the raw count.
How does TechnologyChecker.io detect VitePress?
We look for __VP_HASH_MAP__, a lookup table that every VitePress build defines so the browser can find each page's code. It doesn't depend on the theme or a generator tag. When we fetched all 1,970 kept homepages in October 2026, 1,887 still showed VitePress; 1,718 of those also carried a version tag, 304 of them a 2.0 alpha.
