Companies Using Fastly

Our crawl finds Fastly serving 91,625 domains. Detection reads the HTTP response headers, so a domain here is genuinely being delivered through Fastly's edge rather than merely holding a contract.

The category ranking needs explaining before it misleads. Fastly is #12 of 49 on 0.48%, but our CDN category mixes two different products: commercial edge networks like Cloudflare and Fastly, and free public library CDNs like cdnjs, jsDelivr and unpkg that any site can reference without an account. Ranked against commercial edge providers alone, Fastly sits behind Cloudflare and Google Cloud CDN.

We matched 49,307 domains to company records, a 53.8% match rate, and the base is strikingly developer-led: Software Development is the top industry at 10.28%, more than double the leading industry share on any other profile in this wave.

Fastly Usage Statistics

Fastly enters our history in November 2011 on a single domain, the year the company was founded, and grows steadily: 2,034 domains by January 2016, 18,681 by January 2019, 79,785 by January 2022 and a long-run peak of 175,167 in March 2025. Our current live crawl records 91,625. That gap is a difference between two measurement systems rather than a collapse in usage, and header-based detection depends on which pages and hosts each crawl reaches. The decline through mid-2025 is the archive feed narrowing its own coverage, visible because total domains fall in step with active ones.

List of Companies Using Fastly

Our verified list of companies using Fastly on TechnologyChecker.io covers 49,307 domains matched to company records, out of 91,625 where we detect Fastly headers. That is a 53.8% match rate. Because detection reads response headers, it captures API endpoints and asset hosts that never serve a marketing page, and many of those resolve to no company record at all.

Organisations delivering through Fastly include Bloomberg, TED, Block, Vox Media, Business Insider, Express, the University of Maryland, the United Nations Development Programme and Freelancer.com. The concentration of publishers and media properties is the clearest cluster in the list, which fits a network built for high-volume, cache-heavy, latency-sensitive delivery.

Which countries use Fastly? The United States accounts for 37.42% of enriched domains, then the United Kingdom (8.33%), India (6.83%), Brazil (4.77%), Germany (4.11%) and Canada (4.07%). That is a broader spread than the enterprise media brands at the top of the customer list would suggest, and it reflects a self-serve tier that developers can sign up for without talking to anyone.

Fastly Market Share Among CDN

What is Fastly's market share? It holds 0.48% of our CDN category and ranks #12 of 49. That understates its commercial position, because the category mixes commercial edge networks with free public library CDNs that require no account: cdnjs (11.11%), jsDelivr (11.09%), Google Hosted Libraries (8.24%) and unpkg (3.36%) are all in the table above Fastly. Among paid edge platforms, Cloudflare leads on 47.35% and Fastly trails it and Google Cloud CDN.

Top Competitors by Market Share

Fastly Customers by Company Size & Age

79.97% of Fastly domains belong to companies with ten staff or fewer, the highest small-company share in this wave, from 49,307 enriched companies. That sits oddly beside Bloomberg and the United Nations Development Programme appearing at the top of the list. Both are true: Fastly serves a small number of very large media and technology properties alongside a long tail of individual developers and small studios on self-serve plans.

What Industries Use Fastly the Most?

Software Development leads at 10.28%, followed by IT Services (7.69%), Technology and Internet (5.21%) and Design Services (5.14%). That top figure is more than double the leading industry share on any other profile in this wave, where nothing clears 5%. Fastly's base is genuinely technical, which fits a product configured through VCL and API calls rather than a dashboard toggle.

The age profile matches. 44.6% of Fastly customers were founded in the 2010s and a further 35.38% in the 2020s, so four in five are less than fifteen years old. Compare that with Mimecast, where 16.85% predate 1960. Fastly sells to companies that were born on the web and treat their delivery layer as programmable infrastructure.

Fastly Alternatives & Competitors

Cloudflare is the category on 47.35% against Fastly's 0.48%, a difference of roughly a hundred times in domain count. The comparison is real but incomplete, because Cloudflare's free tier puts it in front of millions of small sites that would never buy an edge platform. Fastly competes for the far smaller population of properties that need programmable delivery, where the relevant rivals are Cloudflare's paid tiers, Google Cloud CDN and Akamai.

Fastly Customer Migration

One caution before reading these numbers: CDNs stack, and 23.55% of Fastly domains already run Cloudflare alongside it, so a domain appearing on both is normal rather than evidence of a switch. We only report flows that clearly exceed that baseline. On that test Cloudflare took 1,442 domains from Fastly and returned 529, and Google Cloud CDN took 239. The direction is consistent even though the volumes are small.

Based on our sample, Fastly domains run Google Analytics (41.12%) and Google Tag Manager (39.78%), with Cloudflare on 23.55% and Adobe Fonts on 21.26%. Expert Analysis: Fastly Growth Trends & Key Signals for Sales Teams in 2026

David Thomson
David ThomsonCTO, TechnologyChecker

Fastly is the one technology in this wave detected purely from HTTP response headers, and that makes it worth explaining what that buys you and what it costs.

When we detect Fastly, we are reading the server header and Fastly's own request identifier on a live response. The domain is not merely a customer, it is being served through Fastly's edge at the moment we fetched it. There is no markup to strip, no script to block, no consent banner in the way. Header detection is about as close to ground truth as this work gets.

The cost is that headers describe a response, not an organisation, and a single company can serve some hostnames through Fastly and others through a rival. Our 91,625 is a count of domains observed being delivered through Fastly, which is a narrower and more literal claim than a customer list.

The category ranking is wrong in a way worth fixing

Fastly ranks twelfth of forty-nine in our CDN category, on 0.48%. Taken at face value that reads as a marginal player. It is a classification problem.

Our CDN category contains two genuinely different products. There are commercial edge networks, where a company pays to have its own traffic delivered: Cloudflare, Fastly, Google Cloud CDN, Akamai. And there are free public library CDNs, where any site can reference a script without an account, a contract or a relationship: cdnjs on 11.11%, jsDelivr on 11.09%, Google Hosted Libraries on 8.24%, unpkg on 3.36%. All four outrank Fastly, and none of them is a competitor to it.

Ranking a paid edge network against a free script host is like ranking a haulage company against a public road. Both move things, only one of them is a purchase.

Among the products a company actually buys, Fastly sits behind Cloudflare and Google Cloud CDN. That is a harder position than the raw rank suggests in some ways and a much better one in others, and it is the comparison a reader should be making. We have said so on the page rather than letting the table imply something we know to be misleading.

Two customer bases wearing one name

The size distribution looks contradictory until you separate it. 79.97% of Fastly domains belong to companies with ten staff or fewer, the highest small-company share of anything we built this month. Meanwhile the top of the list is Bloomberg, TED, Block, Vox Media, Business Insider and the United Nations Development Programme.

Both are accurate, and they describe two different businesses sharing a logo. There is a small number of very large media and technology properties, the ones Fastly is known for, moving enormous volumes of cache-heavy content. And there is a long tail of individual developers and small studios on self-serve plans. Counting domains weights those two equally, which is why the median customer looks nothing like the reference customer.

Anyone using this data commercially should decide which population they want before filtering, because a list built on the raw count will be four-fifths micro-businesses.

The most technical customer base in the wave

Software Development leads Fastly's industry mix at 10.28%. That number deserves attention because of how unusual it is. On the other five profiles we built this month, no industry clears 5%: Google Workspace tops out at 4.54% advertising, Font Awesome at 4.17% construction, Elementor at 4.52% construction. Fastly's leading industry is more than twice as concentrated as any of them.

Add IT services on 7.69%, technology and internet on 5.21% and design services on 5.14%, and roughly a quarter of the identified base is technical. That is what a product configured through a domain-specific language and an API looks like in the data, rather than one configured through a dashboard.

The age profile says the same thing from another angle. 44.6% of these companies were founded in the 2010s and 35.38% in the 2020s. Four in five are under fifteen years old. Set that beside the Mimecast profile in this same wave, where 16.85% of customers predate 1960, and you have two products that could not be selling into more different generations of business.

On the switching numbers, and why there are so few of them

Before publishing any migration figures here I checked the baseline, which is a discipline I would now apply to every stackable category. 23.55% of active Fastly domains already run Cloudflare. CDNs coexist routinely, in front of each other and beside each other for different asset paths, so a domain showing both proves nothing on its own.

Measured against that baseline, most apparent flows evaporate. Domains leaving Fastly show cdnjs, jsDelivr, unpkg and jQuery CDN at rates below their ambient presence, which means those are not destinations at all. Only two flows clearly exceed the baseline: Cloudflare, which took 1,442 domains and returned 529, and Google Cloud CDN, which took 239.

Run the competitor's ambient co-occurrence rate before you run the churn query. Without that baseline you will publish a migration table that is really a popularity table.

So this page carries a deliberately short switching section. Two rows that survive the test, and nothing else. A longer table would have looked more authoritative and told the reader less.

Reading the chart

Fastly appears in our history from November 2011 on one domain, the year the company was founded, and climbs to a long-run peak of 175,167 in March 2025. Our current live crawl records 91,625. That is not a collapse. It is two measurement systems with different reach, and header-based detection in particular depends on which hosts and paths a given crawl actually requests. The decline through mid-2025 is our archive feed narrowing its coverage, which we can confirm because total domains fall in step with active ones.

We publish both segments with the seam visible at TechnologyChecker.io rather than splicing them into one smooth line, because the join is the part a careful reader needs to see.

My summary: Fastly has the most trustworthy detection basis in this wave and the most misleading category rank. It serves a genuinely technical, genuinely young customer base, split between a handful of very large publishers and a long tail of small developer shops, and it is losing a modest but consistent number of domains to Cloudflare.

One more thing the headers tell us

Because we read the response rather than the page, this profile captures infrastructure that no markup-based crawler would ever see: API endpoints, image and asset hosts, download mirrors. That is part of why our company match rate here is 53.8% rather than the eighty-odd percent we get on a DNS-detected product like Mimecast. A large share of Fastly-served hostnames are not websites at all, so there is no company record for them to match.

I would treat that gap as a feature rather than a defect. It means the count reflects delivery infrastructure as it is actually deployed, including the parts that never render a page, and it is a reminder that a detection count and a customer count are different quantities. We report both numbers separately for exactly that reason.

Frequently Asked Questions

Who uses Fastly?

Fastly is used by 91,625 companies worldwide, including Freelancer Limited, undp.org, Bloomberg, based on our analysis of 29.6M crawled domains at TechnologyChecker.io. It's particularly popular in the Software Development industry (10.28% of customers).

How many customers does Fastly have?

Fastly has 91,625 active customers detected through our full-sweep crawl of 29.9M live business domains. We enriched 49,307 of these with LinkedIn company data on TechnologyChecker.io to generate detailed insights. An additional 3,889 sites that previously used Fastly are also tracked.

What is Fastly's market share?

Fastly holds 0.48% of the CDN market, ranking #12 in the category — based on our analysis of 29.6M domains and 40K+ technologies at TechnologyChecker.io.

What are the best alternatives to Fastly?

The top alternatives to Fastly include Cloudflare (47.35% market share), cdnjs (11.11% market share), jsDelivr (11.09% market share), Google Hosted Libraries (8.24% market share) — based on our market share data across 29.6M crawled domains.

Which countries use Fastly the most?

United States leads with 15,238 Fastly customers, followed by United Kingdom (3,390), India (2,783), Brazil (1,941), Germany (1,673), based on our enriched company data at TechnologyChecker.io.

What size companies use Fastly?

The most common company size is 1-10 employees, representing 79.97% of Fastly customers, based on our analysis of 49,307 enriched companies. This is followed by 11-50 employees (14%) and 51-200 employees (4.32%).

How old are companies that use Fastly?

The majority of Fastly customers were founded in the 2010s (44.6%), followed by the 2020s (35.38%), based on our analysis of 49,307 enriched companies. This suggests Fastly is most popular among relatively young companies.

What is the ideal customer profile for Fastly?

The ideal Fastly customer is: Company Size: 1-10 employees, Location: US, UK, India, Industry: Software, IT services, media, Founded: 2010-2024, Detection: HTTP headers — based on our analysis of 49,307 enriched companies at TechnologyChecker.io.

How many websites use Fastly?

Our crawl detects Fastly response headers on 91,625 domains as of August 2026, and we matched 49,307 of them to company records. Because detection reads HTTP headers rather than page markup, the count includes API endpoints and asset hosts that never serve a browsable page, many of which resolve to no company record.

Why is Fastly ranked 12th in the CDN category?

Because the category mixes two different products. Free public library CDNs such as cdnjs, jsDelivr, Google Hosted Libraries and unpkg all rank above Fastly, and any site can reference them without an account or a contract. Ranked against commercial edge platforms alone, Fastly trails Cloudflare and Google Cloud CDN. We say so on the page rather than letting the table imply a comparison we know to be misleading.

Is Fastly bigger than Cloudflare?

No, and the gap is very large. Cloudflare appears on 9,039,719 domains against Fastly's 91,625, roughly a hundred times more. Cloudflare's free tier accounts for much of that difference by putting it in front of millions of small sites that would never purchase a programmable edge platform of any kind.

What kind of companies use Fastly?

Technical ones. Software development leads the industry mix at 10.28%, more than double the top industry share on any other profile in this group, followed by IT services 7.69%, technology and internet 5.21% and design services 5.14%. Four in five customers were founded in the 2010s or 2020s. That leading share is more than double the top industry figure on any other profile in this wave.

What big companies use Fastly?

Bloomberg, TED, Block, Vox Media, Business Insider, Express, the University of Maryland, the United Nations Development Programme and Freelancer.com all deliver through Fastly. Publishers and media properties form the clearest cluster in the list, which fits a network designed for high-volume, cache-heavy and latency-sensitive content delivery. Detection reads the live response, so each of these domains was genuinely served through Fastly's edge when we fetched it.

Why are most Fastly customers small companies?

79.97% of detected domains belong to companies with ten staff or fewer, the highest small-company share in this wave. Fastly serves a small number of very large media properties alongside a long tail of individual developers and small studios on self-serve plans, and the domain count weights those two groups equally.

How does TechnologyChecker.io detect Fastly?

We read HTTP response headers, matching the server header and Fastly's own request identifier and debug headers. That makes detection a property of how the response was actually delivered, so it cannot be faked by page content and works on API endpoints and asset hosts that serve no HTML at all.

Are companies switching from Fastly to Cloudflare?

More than the reverse, though the volumes are small. We recorded 1,442 domains moving from Fastly to Cloudflare and 529 moving the other way. One caution: CDNs stack, and 23.55% of Fastly domains already run Cloudflare alongside it, so co-presence alone is not evidence of a migration. Google Cloud CDN took a further 239 domains over the same window.

Did Fastly usage decline after 2025?

The chart looks that way and the reason is measurement, not churn. Our long-run feed peaked at 175,167 domains in March 2025 then narrowed its own coverage, which you can confirm because total domains fall in step with active ones. The current live crawl is a different system and records 91,625 domains.

What else runs on sites that use Fastly?

Google Analytics appears on 41.12% of sampled domains and Google Tag Manager on 39.78%, with Cloudflare on 23.55%. The most telling figure is Adobe Fonts at 21.26%, which is unusually high and points at the publishing cluster, since licensed typography is bought by design-conscious brands rather than arriving as a free default.

How old are the companies using Fastly?

Young. 44.6% were founded in the 2010s and a further 35.38% in the 2020s, so roughly four in five are under fifteen years old. That is the opposite of the Mimecast profile, where 16.85% of customers predate 1960, and it fits a product sold to businesses that were born on the web.

How many domains have dropped Fastly?

We have observed 3,889 domains stop returning Fastly headers since our crawler began covering the technology in May 2026. Of those, 1,442 now serve through Cloudflare and 239 through Google Cloud CDN. Against 91,625 active domains, that represents churn watched over a few months rather than a lifetime figure. Header detection also depends on which hosts and paths a given crawl reaches.

Can I get a list of companies using Fastly?

Yes. This page ranks the largest by audience size, and TechnologyChecker.io holds the full set of 91,625 detected domains with company records attached to 49,307 of them. Those rows carry industry, headcount band, country and founding year, which is enough to isolate the media and software segments specifically. Roughly 46% of detected domains carry no company match, many of them API and asset hosts.
