Companies Using Microsoft 365
Our live crawl finds 3,753,495 domains routing business email through Microsoft 365, resolving to 3,032,116 identifiable companies using Microsoft 365. What we read is the domain's MX record: where an organisation's mail is delivered, not which desktop applications it licenses. Named users include Tata Sons, Cognizant, Marriott, Bosch, SAP, Unilever, Vodafone, HDFC Bank, Ericsson and the United States Air Force.
Business email is close to a dead heat. Microsoft 365 holds 45.31% of the Email & Webmail category and Google Workspace 43.80%, a gap of 1.51 points and 124,966 domains out of 8,284,814. The reason that number is worth citing is that both halves of it come off the same instrument. We read Google Workspace from the MX record too, so this is one measurement applied to both sides rather than two vendors' announcements set next to each other.
3,032,116 of the 3,753,495 domains carry a company record, a match rate of 80.8%. That is high for us, and the surface explains it: a domain that publishes a business mail server is almost always a real organisation rather than a parked name or a template site. The breakdowns below are closer to a census of business email than a sample of it.
Microsoft 365 ranks 1st of the 31 technologies we track in Email & Webmail. The base underneath the brand names is small: 58.97% of the matched companies that report a headcount employ ten people or fewer, Construction is the largest single industry at 5.98%, and 18.28% of these organisations were founded in the 2020s. The list of companies using Microsoft 365 further down is ordered by LinkedIn following, which is why it reads the opposite way. Data current to our August 2026 rollup.

Microsoft 365 Usage Statistics
Microsoft 365 reads 3,300,944 domains on our June 2026 rollup, 3,733,215 in July and 3,753,495 in August. Three points cannot carry a growth rate, and what moves across them is coverage rather than adoption. Two things changed underneath the line at once: the crawled domain set turns over every month as dead names drop out and newly found ones come in, and the set of signals we can match keeps widening. The August figure is the one quoted at the top of this page, and we would rather publish three honest points than draw a trend through them.

Which Countries Use Microsoft 365 the Most?
Which countries use Microsoft 365 the most? The United States leads with 949,013 of the 3,032,116 companies we could match, 31.3%, then the United Kingdom on 312,423 (10.3%), Germany 209,524 (6.91%), Australia 177,685 (5.86%) and the Netherlands 162,159 (5.35%). The line underneath that lead is the more interesting one: the ten European countries inside this top fifteen hold 1,068,009 companies between them, more than the United States on its own. Australia and the Netherlands both outrank Canada, and the Netherlands alone carries more matched companies than France and Switzerland combined. The four large English-speaking markets together reach 1,581,336, 52.15% of the matched base.
Share of the 3,032,116 Microsoft 365 domains we matched to a company record — 80.8% of the 3,753,495 we detect. Top 15 countries shown, so these do not sum to 100%. Domains with no matching company record are not represented here and skew small and independent.
Microsoft 365 Market Share Among Email & Webmail
What is Microsoft 365's market share? Microsoft 365 holds 45.31% of Email & Webmail and ranks 1st of the 31 technologies in that category, on 3,753,495 domains. Google Workspace is second on 43.80% and 3,628,529, so the two of them carry 89.10% of the category's 8,284,814 domains between them and the gap is 124,966. Everything ranked third and below adds up to 902,790 domains, about a quarter of Microsoft 365's own count, and the largest of those, Apple iCloud Mail on 351,511, is a consumer mailbox turning up on small business domains rather than a product with a sales team. Based on our monthly crawl at TechnologyChecker.io.
Top Competitors by Market Share
Microsoft 365 Customers by Company Size & Age
What size companies use Microsoft 365? Small ones, which is not what the logos further down suggest. 58.97% of the 2,866,833 matched companies that report a headcount employ ten people or fewer and 25.95% employ 11 to 50, so 84.93% of this base sits at 50 staff or under. At the other end, 4,976 domains, 0.17%, belong to companies with more than 10,000 employees, and everything above 1,000 staff comes to 37,260 domains, 1.3%. Microsoft, Marriott, SAP and Unilever are all in this data. Companies of that size are 4,976 rows out of 2,866,833.
Company Size Distribution
Company Age (Founded Decade)
The 2010s lead at 31.91% of the 1,655,702 companies with a founding year, which is what we see almost everywhere. The 2020s at 18.28% is the number that is not ordinary: close to one organisation in five here was founded this decade, and 50.19% since 2010. That fits the size chart, because a firm founded after 2020 with fewer than ten staff buys mail as a subscription instead of inheriting a server from somebody. The older end has not gone anywhere though: 19.52% predate 1990 and 6.09% predate 1960, which is where State Bank of India (1806), Tata Sons (1868), Unilever (1872), Ericsson (1876) and Bosch (1886) sit.
What Industries Use Microsoft 365 the Most?
Construction leads at 5.98%, 158,077 companies, and nothing else reaches 4.5%. IT Services and IT Consulting follows on 4.48%, Business Consulting and Services 4.07%, Real Estate 3.34%, Financial Services 2.81% and Retail 2.64%. All twelve labels here together account for 34.28% of the 2,641,448 companies with a recorded industry, so roughly two thirds of this base sits outside the top twelve entirely. A construction firm at the head of an email chart is the tell that this is infrastructure rather than something sold into a vertical.
Construction companies using Microsoft 365 form the largest single vertical at 5.98%, and adding Real Estate (3.34%) takes the built environment cluster to 246,238 companies, 9.32%. Professional services firms on Microsoft 365 are the bigger block once the related labels are added together: IT Services and IT Consulting (4.48%), Business Consulting and Services (4.07%) and Software Development (2.08%) come to 280,989, 10.64%, which is more than construction and real estate combined. Healthcare organisations using Microsoft 365 are the segment worth separating for anyone selling anything regulated, because Hospitals and Health Care (1.87%) and Medical Practices (1.73%) are two labels for one buyer and reach 95,230 companies between them, based on our enriched company data.
Microsoft 365 Alternatives & Competitors
Google Workspace is the only technology in this category with a comparable footprint: 3,628,529 domains against Microsoft 365's 3,753,495, 43.80% against 45.31%. Third place, Apple iCloud Mail on 351,511 and 4.24%, is a consumer mailbox appearing on small business domains rather than a competing suite, and below it the category empties out quickly: Titan Email 138,834, Yandex Mail 95,121, Yahoo Mail 60,757. So the only comparison worth making is Google Workspace, and it is a fair one, because both counts are read off the same MX lookup rather than off either company's own reporting.

Microsoft 365 Customer Migration
There is no switching table on this profile. We have not measured a corridor on the current data and we would rather leave the section empty than infer one from churn, which is a different thing. What we can report is turnover, and it is unusually low. 43,456 domains have stopped routing mail to Microsoft 365 since mid-March, 1.16% of the live base, with 43,384 of those inside the last 90 days and 21,522 inside the last 30. A record published in DNS does not flicker the way a signal read off a rendered page can, so a drop here generally means an organisation actually moved its mail somewhere else.
Tech Stack of Microsoft 365-Powered Websites
In a 120,000-domain sample of the detected base, these domains look like ordinary small business websites rather than anything Microsoft shaped. jQuery is on about 62% of the sample, WordPress on roughly 42% and Yoast SEO on about 20%, which is close to half of the WordPress sites in that sample. Google Analytics (about 47%) and Google Tag Manager (about 46%) both sit above WordPress, which is worth saying out loud on a page about Microsoft's mail product: the measurement layer on these sites belongs to Google. GoDaddy at roughly 31% is the row that describes the customer best, because a domain bought at a registrar with hosting attached is exactly where a ten-person firm's website ends up. These are shares of the sample, not of all 3,753,495 domains.

Expert Analysis: Microsoft 365 Growth Trends & Key Signals for Sales Teams in 2026

I trust the figures on this page more than almost any others I work with, and the reason is dull. Nobody picks a mail provider on a whim, switching costs a weekend of somebody's life, and the decision usually outlasts the person who made it. So when these numbers move they mean something, and when they sit still that means something too.
One instrument, both vendors
Microsoft 365 delivers mail for 3,753,495 domains and Google Workspace for 3,628,529. That is 45.31% against 43.80% of a category holding 8,284,814 domains, a gap of 124,966 domains and 1.51 percentage points. The two of them hold 89.10% between them and everything else in the category adds to 902,790, about a quarter of Microsoft's own footprint.
The share number is not what makes this worth quoting. Vendor share figures for business email usually come from two press releases counting different things, one in seats and one in tenants, and comparing them is a category error dressed up as analysis. Here both sides are read the same way, off the domain's MX record. If you want the mechanics, we wrote up how these detections work. The short version: a mail exchange record is a public statement about where a domain's email goes, an organisation changes it the day it migrates, and it does not depend on whether a marketing page renders. Whatever else you argue about, Google Workspace and Microsoft 365 are on the same ruler here.
The match rate is the evidence
The reason I would call this a census rather than a sample is not the raw size. It is that 3,032,116 of the 3,753,495 domains resolve to a company record, 80.8%. On most technologies we publish it sits closer to sixty. The surface explains the difference: a domain that has gone to the trouble of publishing a business mail server is almost always a real organisation with a real name, not a parked domain, a template site or a redirect.
What that buys you is that the breakdowns further up the page are not a thin slice extrapolated outwards. Four fifths of the population carries a company record, so the industry, size, country and age charts describe most of the thing itself.
Four fifths of these domains resolve to a named company. That is not a sample of business email. That is business email, with a fifth of it out of focus.
A small business product with a Fortune 500 mailing list
The named list on this page runs Tata Sons, Cognizant, Wipro, Marriott, SAP, Bosch, Unilever, Vodafone and the United States Air Force. The distribution behind it runs the other way entirely. 58.97% of the 2,866,833 matched companies that report a headcount employ ten people or fewer, 84.93% employ 50 or fewer, and only 4,976 domains belong to companies above 10,000 staff, which is 0.17%.
The age chart says the same thing from another angle. 18.28% of these organisations were founded in the 2020s and 50.19% since 2010. A five-person firm founded in 2022 does not inherit a mail server from anyone; it buys a subscription in an afternoon. Construction leading the industry table at 5.98% is the same finding in a third form, because construction is simply where a great many small companies are.
One caution about the named list, and it applies to every profile we publish. It is ordered by LinkedIn following, not by anything to do with Microsoft. Ten of the 33 organisations named here carry an Indian company record, and India is 1.78% of the matched base and eleventh by country. Indian IT and banking groups have enormous LinkedIn audiences. Read the charts for the market and the table for the examples, never the other way round.
Europe outweighs the United States here
The United States leads on 949,013 matched companies, 31.3%, and the line underneath it is the one worth looking at twice. The ten European countries inside the top fifteen carry 1,068,009 companies between them, more than the United States on its own. The ordering is unusual in its own right: Australia (177,685) and the Netherlands (162,159) both come in ahead of Canada (142,215), and the Netherlands on its own carries more matched companies than France and Switzerland together.
I would not read that as Microsoft selling harder in Rotterdam. Mail is bought through resellers and managed service providers in most of Europe, and a reseller channel spreads a product into places a direct sales team never reaches. It also means the buying decision was frequently made by somebody other than the company in the row, which matters if you are trying to sell that company something adjacent.
Why there is no switching table here
Because I have not measured one on the current data, and inferring a corridor from churn is how you publish a migration that never happened. What the churn does support is a statement about stability. 43,456 domains have stopped routing mail to Microsoft 365 since mid-March, 1.16% of the live base, with 43,384 of those in the last 90 days and 21,522 in the last 30.
That is among the lowest turnover we see anywhere, and the reason is the surface as much as the product. A detection read off a rendered page comes and goes with a consent banner, a slow response or a redesign, and rates of that kind can run into the tens of percent without a single customer leaving. A DNS record either points at Microsoft or it does not.
A drop rate of 1.16% on a base this size is not loyalty data. It is a statement about the measurement: mail records change when companies change them, and almost never otherwise.
What the rest of the stack says
In a 120,000-domain sample of the base, nothing about these sites is Microsoft shaped. jQuery is on about 62%, WordPress on roughly 42%, Yoast SEO on about 20%, close to half the WordPress figure. Google Analytics at roughly 47% and Google Tag Manager at about 46% both sit above WordPress, so on a page about Microsoft's mail product the honest observation is that Google owns the measurement layer on these websites. GoDaddy at roughly 31% is the row that tells you most about the buyer: a domain bought at a registrar with hosting attached, which is where a ten-person firm's website lives.
Those percentages are shares of the sample rather than of all 3,753,495 domains, and I would not push them past the nearest whole number.
What to take from this
Microsoft 365 is first in business email on 45.31% against Google Workspace's 43.80%, a lead of 124,966 domains that either vendor's marketing could reasonably claim as a tie. The number worth arguing with is not the share, it is the unit: this is domains whose mail Microsoft delivers, not seats, not licences, and not organisations, since a group with twelve domains contributes twelve rows. An organisation on Microsoft 365 for Office applications while routing mail through somebody else does not appear on this page at all. TechnologyChecker.io resolves the count against 3,032,116 identified companies and refreshes it every month.
Frequently Asked Questions
Who uses Microsoft 365?
Our live crawl finds Microsoft 365 delivering mail for 3,753,495 domains, of which 3,032,116 resolve to a company record. Named users include Tata Sons, Cognizant, Marriott, Bosch, SAP, Unilever, Vodafone and the United States Air Force. The typical user is far smaller: 58.97% of matched companies employ ten people or fewer, and Construction is the single largest industry at 5.98%.
How many customers does Microsoft 365 have?
We detect Microsoft 365 on 3,753,495 active domains as of our August 2026 rollup, and 3,032,116 of them carry a company record, a match rate of 80.8%. Counts are domains, not seats or licences. A group running several domains appears more than once in the underlying data, and an organisation using Microsoft 365 for Office applications while routing mail elsewhere does not appear here at all.
What is Microsoft 365's market share?
Microsoft 365 holds 45.31% of our Email & Webmail category and ranks 1st of the 31 technologies in it, on 3,753,495 domains. Google Workspace is second on 43.80% and 3,628,529 domains. The two carry 89.10% of the category's 8,284,814 domains between them, and everything ranked third and below adds up to 902,790, roughly a quarter of Microsoft 365's own count.
What are the best alternatives to Microsoft 365?
By deployment there is really one: Google Workspace, on 3,628,529 domains against Microsoft 365's 3,753,495. After that the field drops away sharply to Apple iCloud Mail (351,511), Titan Email (138,834), Yandex Mail (95,121) and Yahoo Mail (60,757). Apple iCloud Mail is a consumer mailbox showing up on small business domains rather than a business suite competing for the same purchase.
Which countries use Microsoft 365 the most?
The United States leads with 949,013 matched companies, 31.3% of the base we could place, then the United Kingdom on 312,423 (10.3%), Germany 209,524 (6.91%), Australia 177,685 (5.86%) and the Netherlands 162,159 (5.35%). The ten European countries in the top fifteen hold 1,068,009 companies between them, more than the United States on its own, and Australia and the Netherlands both outrank Canada.
What size companies use Microsoft 365?
58.97% of the 2,866,833 matched companies that report a headcount employ ten people or fewer, and 25.95% employ 11 to 50, so 84.93% sit at 50 staff or under. Only 37,260 domains, 1.3%, belong to companies above 1,000 employees, and 4,976 of those are above 10,000. The enterprise users are real but they are a thin band on top of a very small company base.
How old are companies that use Microsoft 365?
31.91% of the 1,655,702 companies with a founding year were founded in the 2010s and 18.28% in the 2020s, so 50.19% date from 2010 or later. The older tail is still substantial: 19.52% predate 1990 and 6.09% predate 1960. State Bank of India dates to 1806, Tata Sons to 1868, Unilever to 1872, Ericsson to 1876 and Bosch to 1886.
What is the ideal customer profile for Microsoft 365?
A company of ten staff or fewer in 58.97% of cases, most often in the United States, the United Kingdom or Germany, founded since 2010, working in construction, IT services or professional consulting. The identifying fact is the mail route rather than the software: this profile counts organisations whose email Microsoft delivers, read from the domain's MX record.
What is the difference between Microsoft 365 and Dynamics 365?
Microsoft 365 is the productivity and email subscription, and it is what this page measures: 3,753,495 domains whose mail is delivered by Microsoft, read from each domain's MX record. That number says nothing about business applications. Microsoft Dynamics 365 is a separate product family for sales, service, finance and operations, licensed and billed separately, and detected from a different signal entirely. The shared name causes real confusion; the two are bought apart.
Is Office 365 the same as Microsoft 365?
Yes, for practical purposes. Office 365 was the earlier name for the subscription that Microsoft rebranded to Microsoft 365 in April 2020, and many buyers still say Office 365 or M365 when they mean the same product. We track it as one technology. Whichever name a company uses internally, the mail for 3,753,495 domains is delivered by it.
Is Microsoft 365 bigger than Google Workspace?
Yes, by 124,966 domains: 3,753,495 against 3,628,529, or 45.31% versus 43.80% of the category. That is a lead of 1.51 percentage points in a market of 8,284,814 domains, which is close enough that either side could be quoted as the leader on a different basis. The count here is domains, not seats, so it does not describe revenue or mailbox numbers.
What does a Microsoft 365 detection actually mean?
It means that domain publishes an MX record pointing its mail at Microsoft's Outlook hosts, so Microsoft delivers the email for that domain. It is not a licence count, a seat count or a machine count. An organisation running Microsoft 365 for Word, Excel and Teams while routing mail through another provider is invisible here, so read every figure on this page as organisations whose email Microsoft delivers.
How many domains have dropped Microsoft 365?
43,456 domains have stopped routing mail to Microsoft 365 since mid-March 2026, 43,384 of them within the last 90 days and 21,522 within the last 30. Against 3,753,495 live domains that is 1.16%, one of the lowest turnover rates we measure on any technology, because a mail route is expensive to change and nobody changes one by accident.
Why is Construction the top industry for Microsoft 365?
Because email is infrastructure, and this chart mostly reports which industries contain the most small companies. Construction leads on 5.98% of the 2,641,448 companies with a recorded industry, ahead of IT Services (4.48%) and Business Consulting (4.07%), and no label reaches 4.5% after the first. Adding Real Estate takes the built environment cluster to 9.32%, still under a tenth of the base.
Can I get a list of companies using Microsoft 365?
Yes. This page names 33 of them, ordered by LinkedIn following, and TechnologyChecker.io holds the full set of 3,753,495 detected domains with a company record attached to 3,032,116 of them. Those enriched rows carry industry, headcount band, country and founding year for filtering. Because the detection is a DNS lookup, the list reaches domains that serve no public website at all.
