Companies Using Microsoft SharePoint

Most organisations use Microsoft SharePoint behind a login, for intranets and document libraries, and no crawler can see that. What our November 2026 crawl can see is SharePoint answering on a public address: its own response headers, such as MicrosoftSharePointTeamServices and SPRequestGuid, its page scripts or its generator tag. We find that on 2,490 domains. So this is a list of companies that use Microsoft SharePoint to run a public website, not a count of everyone who pays for SharePoint.

The public side is ministries, state banks, hospitals and universities. On 6 November 2026 SharePoint served the main sites of Caixa Econômica Federal, Türk Telekom, Akbank, Hamad Medical Corporation, Saudi Arabia's Ministry of Health and Toronto's University Health Network, and 7 of the 40 domains in our random sample were Queensland state school sites. Of the 1,052 domains we matched to a company, Government Administration is the largest industry.

We removed 763 hostnames on Microsoft's own sharepoint.com servers, which return SharePoint's headers and an error but aren't anyone's website, and 54 www. duplicates of sites already counted (see How We Counted, below). SharePoint holds 0.02% of the domains in CMS & Website Builders.

Microsoft SharePoint Usage Statistics

The chart has one point, 2,490 domains in November 2026, because the cleaned count starts with this crawl; the removal of Microsoft's own hostnames and duplicate www. entries wasn't applied to earlier months, so we don't chart them. Even then it wouldn't be a same-domain series: the set of domains we crawl turns over every month, with dead sites dropping out and newly found ones added, and our detection widens over time. Since tracking began on 16 March 2026, 243 domains dropped SharePoint on every hostname we see. Read that as turnover, not as lost customers.

List of Companies Using Microsoft SharePoint

Who uses Microsoft SharePoint? This list of companies using Microsoft SharePoint names 50 of the 1,052 matched companies, ranked by LinkedIn following. We loaded the top 30 on 6 November 2026: 19 served SharePoint headers or page code, one a SharePoint notice that its extranet had closed, and 10 blocked us or didn't answer. 16 of the 19 run SharePoint on their main site, so these brands that use Microsoft SharePoint put it at the front door; the other 3 are sub-sites, such as Iveco's newibb.iveco.com. Most websites using Microsoft SharePoint on the list belong to public bodies or regulated firms.

Microsoft SharePoint Market Share Among CMS & Website Builders

What is Microsoft SharePoint's market share? 0.02% of the 16,290,261 domains in CMS & Website Builders, on our count of 2,490 at TechnologyChecker.io. WordPress holds 61.46% and Wix 8.93%. The comparison is lopsided by design. The category counts public websites, and SharePoint's main use, the intranet behind a login, never reaches a crawler. So 0.02% measures how often organisations put SharePoint on the public web, not how many use it.

ASP.NET shows on 97.63% of the 2,490 domains, which is what a Microsoft server product looks like from outside. jQuery (88.47%), Google Tag Manager (86.1%), Google Analytics (82.53%) and Bootstrap (73.09%) follow. Kendo UI appears on 31.29% and Snowplow Analytics on 11.12%. These shares are on the cleaned count, so Microsoft's own hostnames, which load no page scripts, no longer drag them down.

How We Counted Microsoft SharePoint Sites

A domain counts here when a response or page from it carries one of SharePoint's own signals: the MicrosoftSharePointTeamServices, SPRequestGuid or SharePointHealthScore headers, the _spBodyOnLoadCalled or SPDesignerProgID page scripts, or a Microsoft SharePoint generator tag. The rule also has a script clause for one company's CDN, cdn.teledyne.com; the Teledyne pages we opened send SharePoint's headers as well.

Our raw November count was 3,308 domains. Our standard title filter removed 1 for-sale or gambling page. We then removed 763 hostnames on Microsoft's own sharepoint.com servers, such as 195661-ipv4v6fdse.gr.global.aa-rt.sharepoint.com. They answer with SharePoint's headers and a one-line error, "Farm uris with the host in the path are not allowed", so the rule matches them, but they're Microsoft's infrastructure, not anyone's website. We also removed 54 www. entries that duplicated a site already counted under its bare domain.

That leaves 2,490, which every chart and table on this page uses. One limit stays: SharePoint's main use, intranets behind a Microsoft 365 login, can't be seen by a crawler, so this is a count of public SharePoint websites only.

Expert Analysis: Microsoft SharePoint Growth Trends & Key Signals for Sales Teams in 2026

Mehmet Suleyman
Mehmet SuleymanCEO & Co-founder, TechnologyChecker

SharePoint is hard to count from outside. Most organisations run it as an intranet behind a Microsoft 365 login, and a crawler reading public homepages never gets in. What we can see is SharePoint answering on a public address. Before cleaning, our November 2026 crawl counted 3,308 domains, and on 6 November 2026 I re-requested a random 40 of them to see what they were.

What the rule picks up

The rule reads SharePoint's response headers, two of its page scripts and its generator tag. 25 of the 40 were public websites built on SharePoint: government sites in Spain, Saudi Arabia, Vietnam and the Dominican Republic, a Brazilian law firm, Tasmania's parks service, a Czech clinic's booking pages and seven Queensland state schools. None was an intranet sign-in page. Four didn't answer. The other 11 were hostnames under gr.global.aa-rt.sharepoint.com that belong to Microsoft's SharePoint Online servers. They return SharePoint headers and a one-line error, "Farm uris with the host in the path are not allowed". That's real SharePoint, but it's nobody's website. We've since removed 763 such hostnames, plus 54 www. duplicates, which leaves 2,490 domains.

"A quarter of the raw list was Microsoft's own servers answering the crawler. Take those out and what's left is the public sector's front door." - Mehmet Suleyman, CEO & Co-founder at TechnologyChecker.io

Sales signal: the sharepoint.com hostnames are already out of this page's count. If you pull raw SharePoint data anywhere else, drop them first; what's left is organisations running a public site on SharePoint themselves.

Who they are

We matched 1,052 domains to a company. Government Administration is the largest industry with 167, and 27.09% of companies with a known size have more than 1,000 staff. The named list reads like a public-sector directory: Caixa, Saudi Arabia's Ministry of Health, Hamad Medical Corporation, University Health Network and Turkish banks such as Akbank and Ziraat Bankası.

Why the timing matters

Microsoft stopped offering SharePoint Online public websites to new customers on 9 March 2015 and deleted the last postponed ones by 31 March 2018, per its support article. So a public SharePoint site today runs on SharePoint Server. Microsoft's lifecycle pages put the end of extended support for SharePoint Server 2016 and 2019 in July 2026, and Subscription Edition is the version still in support. Since tracking began, 32 domains have moved from SharePoint to Adobe Experience Manager, 31 to WordPress and 16 to Drupal.

Sales signal: any site here that isn't on Subscription Edition now runs software Microsoft no longer supports. That's the opening for upgrade partners and for rival CMS vendors.

Frequently Asked Questions

Who uses Microsoft SharePoint?

For public websites, mostly governments, banks, hospitals and universities. Of the 1,052 domains we matched to a company, Government Administration is the largest industry with 167. On 6 November 2026 SharePoint served the main sites of Caixa Econômica Federal, Türk Telekom, Akbank, Hamad Medical Corporation and Saudi Arabia's Ministry of Health. Its intranet use sits behind logins we can't crawl.

How many customers does Microsoft SharePoint have?

We can't count SharePoint customers from the web, because most use it behind a login. Our November 2026 crawl finds SharePoint answering in public on 2,490 domains, after we removed 763 of Microsoft's own SharePoint Online hostnames and 54 duplicate www. entries. 1,052 domains match a company. Since 16 March 2026, 243 domains dropped it.

What is Microsoft SharePoint's market share?

SharePoint holds 0.02% of the 16,290,261 domains in our CMS & Website Builders category at TechnologyChecker.io, on a count of 2,490. That's a share of public websites; WordPress has 61.46% and Wix 8.93%. It says little about SharePoint as a business, because its main use, intranets and document libraries behind a login, never shows up in a crawl of public pages.

What are the best alternatives to Microsoft SharePoint?

For a public website, look at where SharePoint sites moved in our data: Adobe Experience Manager (32 domains since 16 March 2026), WordPress (31) and Drupal (16). Liferay has the closest customer mix among the enterprise CMSs we profile. By category share the largest rows are WordPress (61.46%), Wix (8.93%), Squarespace (6.63%) and GoDaddy Website Builder (3.25%), mostly small-business tools.

Which countries use Microsoft SharePoint the most?

Among the 1,052 domains we matched to a company, the United States leads with 229, then Colombia (111), Saudi Arabia (54), Canada (41), Australia (37) and Spain (32). Saudi Arabia, the UAE and Qatar together have 99, and the ones we checked were ministries, hospitals and state companies. Turkey has 24, including Akbank, İşbank and Ziraat Bankası.

What size companies use Microsoft SharePoint?

Large ones, by CMS standards. Of 1,004 matched companies with a known size, 27.09% have more than 1,000 employees and 15.64% have 1,001 to 5,000. The single largest band is 1 to 10 employees, at 26.99%. On the same basis Liferay has 18.26% above 1,000 staff and Kentico 6.59%.

How old are companies that use Microsoft SharePoint?

Mostly old. Of 545 matched companies with a founding year, 25.32% were founded before 1960, the largest group, followed by the 2010s (16.7%) and the 2000s (15.05%). Only 3.49% date from the 2020s. That matches a list led by ministries, state banks, hospitals and universities rather than start-ups.

What is the ideal customer profile for Microsoft SharePoint?

On our data, a public body or regulated firm with more than 1,000 staff, founded before 1960, in government, higher education, banking or health care, in the US, Colombia, Saudi Arabia or Canada, running a public site on SharePoint Server with ASP.NET (97.63% of domains). Intranet-only buyers don't show up in a crawl.

Can you make a website with SharePoint?

Not on SharePoint Online any more. Microsoft stopped offering SharePoint Online public websites to new customers on 9 March 2015 and deleted the last postponed sites by 31 March 2018, according to its support article. Public sites now run on SharePoint Server, hosted by the organisation. 25 of a random 40 domains from our uncleaned list were such sites, from Queensland schools to Tasmania's parks service.

Is SharePoint retiring in 2026?

SharePoint isn't, but two versions of SharePoint Server lost support. Microsoft's lifecycle pages list the end of extended support for SharePoint Server 2016 and 2019 in July 2026. SharePoint Server Subscription Edition is in support under the Modern Lifecycle Policy, and SharePoint in Microsoft 365 carries on. Public sites still on 2016 or 2019 now run unsupported software.

Does anyone use SharePoint anymore?

Yes, though mostly where a crawler can't see it. Our November 2026 crawl still finds SharePoint answering on 2,490 public domains, including the main sites of Caixa, Türk Telekom and Saudi Arabia's Ministry of Health. Since 16 March 2026, 79 domains moved from SharePoint to Adobe Experience Manager, WordPress or Drupal, and 3 moved to it from WordPress.

How can you tell if a website runs on SharePoint?

Read the response headers. SharePoint sends MicrosoftSharePointTeamServices, which carries a build number, plus SPRequestGuid and often X-SharePointHealthScore. Its pages usually load scripts from /_layouts/15/ and may carry a Microsoft SharePoint generator tag. Our rule reads those signals; every domain we could reach in a 40-domain sample on 6 November 2026 sent at least one.

Why did you remove sharepoint.com hostnames from the count?

Because Microsoft's SharePoint Online servers answer with the same headers as a SharePoint website. Hostnames such as 195661-ipv4v6fdse.gr.global.aa-rt.sharepoint.com return SharePoint headers and a one-line error, so the rule matched them. They were 11 of the 40 domains we sampled on 6 November 2026. They aren't customer sites, so we removed 763 of them, and the 2,490 on this page exclude them.
