Companies Using Astro
We detect Astro on 287,180 active domains, 26.13% of the static site generator category and #2 of 26 tracked tools, behind Next.js. Astro is also the only tool in this category taking meaningful ground from the leader: 2,128 domains dropped Next.js while running Astro against 747 moving the other way, a net +1,381 and the largest switching corridor we see here. Next.js is still about 2.5x Astro's size, so read this as a fast challenger rather than a reversal.
Below you will find the list of companies using Astro with market share, industry, company size and geographic breakdowns, built from 108,170 enriched companies. Read them with one caveat in view: the base we detect skews hard toward small, budget-hosted sites. 74.43% of the companies we can size have 10 or fewer employees, and 60.4% of Astro domains have been seen exactly once in our crawl, against 40.6% for Next.js. That is a different population from the hand-built developer projects Astro is known for, and both live inside the same number. Counts here are domains, and every count in this category is a floor, because a site that strips its build fingerprints is invisible to us.

Astro Usage Statistics
This chart shows only what our current crawl has measured, from June 2026 onward: 235,534 active domains in June, 281,275 in July and 287,180 in August 2026. We hold earlier readings for Astro going back to its public beta in June 2021, but our coverage of that period and our coverage now are different enough that joining them into one line would suggest a rate of growth the data cannot support, so this series starts where the current measurement starts. Read it as three months on one consistent basis rather than as Astro's full history. For the longer view, Astro's own year in review reports weekly npm downloads growing from roughly 360,000 to over 900,000 during 2025, which points the same way from an independent source.

Which Countries Use Astro the Most?
Which countries use Astro the most? The United States leads with 25,444 companies, then India (6,902), the United Kingdom (6,852), Brazil (6,591) and Germany (6,175). France (4,430), Spain (3,205), Canada (3,062) and Australia (2,658) follow. The spread is unusually flat for a web framework: no single country dominates the way the United States does in most tools we track, and Latin America is well represented, with Brazil, Mexico (1,993), Colombia (1,279) and Argentina (1,019) all inside the top fifteen. Read this table as where the companies behind Astro domains are registered rather than where the code is written.
Share of the 108,170 Astro domains we matched to a company record — 37.7% of the 287,180 we detect. Top 15 countries shown, so these do not sum to 100%. Domains with no matching company record are not represented here and skew small and independent.
Astro Market Share Among Static Site Generators
What is Astro's market share? Astro holds 26.13% of the static site generator category, ranking #2 across 26 tracked technologies and 1,099,131 active domains. Next.js leads at 66.6% (731,970 domains), Astro follows at 287,180, then Gatsby at 2.71% (29,767), Hugo at 2.61% (28,690) and Jekyll at 0.69% (7,537). One caution before comparing rows directly: the tools in this category leave different amounts of evidence in a page, so part of the distance between the top of this table and the bottom is how detectable each tool is rather than how widely each is used. Treat every count here as a floor.
Top Competitors by Market Share
Astro Customers by Company Size & Age
Is Astro only for small companies? 74.43% of the companies we can size have 1 to 10 employees, 75,358 out of 101,251, with another 18.16% in the 11 to 50 band. That is the most small-business-weighted distribution in this category. At the other end the enterprise tail is narrow but real: 148 companies with 10,001 or more employees and 425 in the 1,001 to 5,000 band. Both halves are true at once. Our crawl places Astro on domains owned by Unilever, IKEA, Adobe, BlackRock and LEGO, and it also places it on tens of thousands of one-person sites. Enterprise deployments here are usually a single property, a docs portal or a microsite rather than a company-wide standard.
Company Size Distribution
Company Age (Founded Decade)
What Industries Use Astro the Most?
IT Services and IT Consulting leads at 7.86%, followed by Software Development (7.04%), Business Consulting and Services (5.22%) and Technology, Information and Internet (4.82%). Those four are all tech-adjacent and combine for 24.94% of the enriched base. The remainder is broader than the framework's reputation suggests: Advertising Services (3.34%), Construction (2.99%), Retail (2.25%), Marketing Services (2.24%) and Financial Services (2.15%) all carry meaningful volume, which is what you would expect from a base dominated by small sites built by agencies rather than by in-house engineering teams.
IT services companies using Astro are the largest single vertical at 7.86%, 7,670 of the companies we could enrich. Software development firms on Astro follow at 7.04% (6,865). Advertising and marketing agencies using Astro together account for 5.58% (3,257 plus 2,182), and that pairing matters for reading the rest of this page: agency-built client sites are part of why the size distribution sits so heavily in the 1 to 10 employee band.
Astro Alternatives & Competitors
Astro sits second in this category behind Next.js, which we detect on 731,970 domains against Astro's 287,180, and well clear of Gatsby (29,767) and Hugo (28,690). The gap to Next.js is roughly 2.5x, and Astro is the only tool in this category narrowing it: 2,128 domains moved from Next.js to Astro against 747 going back. Against the smaller tools the flows run one way. We record 324 domains moving from Gatsby to Astro and none returning, and 138 from Hugo against 25 going back. Two cautions on this table. Counts are domains rather than accounts, and the tools here are not equally easy to detect, so the ordering is more reliable than the ratios between rows.
Astro Customer Migration
We opened the observation window on this category in March 2026, so these are months of switching, not years. Astro is net positive against every competitor we can match. The corridor that matters is Next.js: 2,128 domains dropped Next.js while running Astro against 747 going the other way, a net +1,381 and the largest flow in this category. Astro is also ahead against Gatsby (324 in, none recorded out), Nuxt.js (330 in, 61 out) and Hugo (138 in, 25 out). Set that against the larger flow, which is not competitive at all: 17,154 domains have dropped Astro since we began tracking in March 2026, while only 833 can be matched to a named replacement. Most departures are sites that stopped showing Astro rather than teams that picked a rival.
Tech Stack of Astro-Powered Websites
The co-occurrence table says something the framework's reputation does not. AMP appears on 41.41% of the Astro domains we can profile (129,230 domains) and Hostinger CDN on 19.94% (62,235), and neither is what a hand-built Astro project usually looks like. We checked whether either one carries Astro as a bundled component, because that is the usual explanation for a pattern like this, and the overlap does not support it. Read each pairing the other way round and the containment disappears: only about a fifth of AMP's own base carries Astro, and roughly a tenth of Hostinger CDN's does. A genuinely embedded component shows near-total containment on the host's side, and neither of these does. So we report the pairing as an observation and stop there. The rest of the table is conventional: Cloudflare (20.99%) leads CDNs, Vue.js (21.98%) is the most common JavaScript framework pairing, Google Analytics (19.16%) leads analytics with Cloudflare Browser Insights at 8.87%, and CMS platforms barely register, with WordPress at 0.77%, Wix at 0.32% and Shopify at 0.20%.

Astro Customer Reviews with Pros and Cons
Based on 47 Product Hunt reviews (5.0/5.0 rating), community sentiment from Reddit (r/webdev, r/astrojs), and developer surveys, Astro scores highest for performance and developer experience. The State of JS 2025 ranked it #1 in meta-framework satisfaction, 39 points ahead of Next.js. The most common criticism is limited interactivity for complex web apps, a trade-off of its zero-JS-by-default architecture.
Generated from real user reviews on Product Hunt
- Developers consistently praise Astro's zero-JS-by-default performance, producing Lighthouse scores of 100 with near-instant Time to Interactive on content sites.(47 reviews)
- The developer experience is a standout: HTML-like syntax, TypeScript-first IntelliSense, Vite-powered HMR, and a gentle learning curve compared to Next.js's App Router.(47 reviews)
- Astro's framework-agnostic islands architecture lets teams use React, Vue, Svelte, or Solid components on the same page without shipping unnecessary JavaScript.(47 reviews)
- Built-in content collections with schema validation make Markdown and MDX handling type-safe and easy to maintain for blogs, docs, and knowledge bases.(47 reviews)
- Users highlight flexible deployment: Astro outputs static HTML that runs on any CDN or hosting platform, with no vendor lock-in to a specific provider.(47 reviews)
- Astro has limited interactivity out of the box: building highly interactive SPAs or complex client-side state management requires additional framework setup via islands.(47 reviews)
- The ecosystem is smaller than Next.js: fewer tutorials, third-party plugins, and Stack Overflow answers, which can slow down troubleshooting for edge cases.(47 reviews)
- Sharing state between islands is complex since each island renders in isolation; cross-component communication requires workarounds like nanostores or custom events.(47 reviews)
- Astro is not ideal for full-stack web applications that need real-time features, complex auth flows, or heavy database interactions without pairing it with a backend framework.(47 reviews)
- Some developers report a rebuild-required workflow for content updates on purely static sites, though hybrid SSR and Live Content Collections in Astro 6 address this.(47 reviews)
Expert Analysis: Astro Growth Trends & Key Signals for Sales Teams in 2026

I have spent 10+ years in technographic data analysis, and Astro is one of the more interesting profiles I have worked on this year, because two true things about it point in opposite directions. Our current crawl detects Astro on 287,180 active domains and we could enrich 108,170 of the companies behind them. Here is what those numbers support, and where they stop.
Growth trajectory
The chart above deliberately shows one thing only: what our current crawl has measured, 235,534 active domains in June 2026, 281,275 in July and 287,180 in August. We do hold earlier readings, back to Astro's public beta in June 2021, and they show the shape you would expect from a young framework. They are not on the chart, and that is the point of this section.
Our coverage of that earlier period and our coverage now are different enough that drawing them as one line would imply a rate of growth the data cannot support, so I am not going to publish one and neither should anyone quoting this page. Two things move together over that period. The domain set we crawl turns over every month, with dead domains dropping out and newly discovered ones coming in, and our detection signals widened. Part of the step is Astro genuinely growing, which the independent evidence supports: Astro's own year in review reports weekly npm downloads going from roughly 360,000 to over 900,000 during 2025. Part of it is us seeing more of the same web. The two are not separable from a single number, so the honest statement is the direction, not the multiple.
"Astro is the fastest riser we track in this category, and it is also the profile where I would most warn people off arithmetic. The direction is unambiguous. The rate is not measurable across our series." - Mehmet Suleyman, CEO at TechnologyChecker.io
Sales Signal: This is an expansion-phase ecosystem. The buyers are agencies and small dev shops building client sites, and they are a multiplier: one agency decision puts Astro on dozens of domains.
Customer profile, and the part most write-ups skip
74.43% of the Astro companies we can size have 1 to 10 employees, 75,358 of 101,251, the most small-business-weighted distribution in this category. 40.79% were founded in the 2020s and another 38.68% in the 2010s. That much is expected for a young framework.
What is less expected is the shape of the rest. 41.41% of Astro domains also run AMP and 19.94% sit behind Hostinger CDN. Neither is what a hand-built Astro project usually looks like. On top of that, 60.4% of Astro domains have been seen exactly once in our crawl, against 40.6% for Next.js and 27.9% for Hugo, which is the signature of short-lived sites rather than maintained ones. I checked whether some platform is shipping Astro as a bundled component, because that is the usual explanation for a pattern like this, and the overlap does not support it. Read each pairing the other way and the containment disappears: only about a fifth of AMP's own base carries Astro, and roughly a tenth of Hostinger CDN's does. Real embedding shows near-total containment on the host's side and this does not. So the finding I will stand behind is narrower: the base we detect skews strongly toward small, budget-hosted, often short-lived sites, which is a different population from the developer-built projects Astro is known for, and I cannot attribute that to any single platform.
The enterprise tail is the counterweight, and it is real. 148 companies with 10,001 or more employees run Astro somewhere in our crawl, and the enterprise names we can put to domains hold up: Unilever, IKEA, Adobe, BlackRock, LEGO, Michelin, Ferrari, Lyft, AMD, Kuehne + Nagel, Ryanair, Zomato, ASUS, Accor, Block and the U.S. General Services Administration. Look at which hosts answer and the pattern is familiar: developer.amd.com, business.phonepe.com, opensource.block.xyz, smartpay.gsa.gov, mykn.kuehne-nagel.com. These are single properties, docs portals and microsites, not corporate infrastructure.
Sales Signal: Two buyers, not one. The volume is one-to-ten-person teams reachable through community and self-serve. The value is enterprise teams that picked Astro for one property, reachable through the subdomain rather than the brand.
Industry and geography
The top four industries are all tech-adjacent: IT Services (7.86%), Software Development (7.04%), Business Consulting (5.22%) and Technology/Internet (4.82%), together 24.94% of the enriched base. Advertising Services (3.34%) and Marketing Services (2.24%) are worth reading alongside them, because agency-built client sites are part of why the size distribution sits where it does.
Geographically the United States leads with 25,444 companies, then India (6,902), the United Kingdom (6,852), Brazil (6,591) and Germany (6,175). That is a flat distribution by the standards of this dataset, where the United States usually takes a much larger share of the top five. Latin America is well represented: Brazil, Mexico (1,993), Colombia (1,279) and Argentina (1,019) all sit inside the top fifteen.
Sales Signal: The non-US half of this base is underserved. Localized hosting, payments and analytics for Brazilian and Indian small teams is a live gap.
Migration patterns
We started tracking switching in this category in March 2026, so these are months of movement, not years. Astro is the only tool here taking meaningful ground from the leader: 2,128 domains dropped Next.js while running Astro against 747 in the other direction, a net +1,381. It is also net positive against Gatsby (324 in, none out), Nuxt.js (330 in, 61 out) and Hugo (138 in, 25 out).
Keep the scale in view. Next.js is still detected on 731,970 domains against Astro's 287,180, roughly 2.5x, so a net 1,381 is a challenger taking ground, not a handover. And the larger flow is not competitive at all: 17,154 domains dropped Astro over the same window against 833 we can match to a named replacement, which means most departures are sites that stopped showing Astro rather than teams that moved to a rival.
"Astro against Next.js is the only corridor in this category where the challenger is ahead. It is also small next to the number of domains that simply stop appearing, which is the more common story in static site generators." - Mehmet Suleyman, CEO at TechnologyChecker.io
Sales Signal: Migration tooling and content aimed at Next.js and Gatsby teams has the clearest audience. Both of those corridors run in Astro's favour, and the Gatsby one runs entirely one way.
Technology ecosystem
Beyond AMP and Hostinger CDN, the pairings are conventional. Cloudflare (20.99%) is the leading CDN and Vue.js (21.98%) the most common JavaScript framework alongside it, with Svelte (1.29%), React Router (1.25%), Alpine.js (0.98%) and React (0.68%) a long way behind. Google Analytics (19.16%) leads analytics, followed by Cloudflare Browser Insights (8.87%), Vercel Analytics (1.23%) and Plausible (0.88%). CMS platforms are almost absent: WordPress 0.77%, Wix 0.32%, Shopify 0.20% and Webflow 0.17%.
Sales Signal: Roughly four in five Astro domains carry no analytics we can detect. For analytics and session-tooling vendors that is the gap, though remember what the size distribution says about willingness to pay.
Key takeaways
1. Astro is #2 of 26 in static site generators at 287,180 domains and 26.13% share, behind Next.js at 66.6%.
2. It is the only tool here net positive against Next.js, +1,381 domains, though Next.js remains about 2.5x larger.
3. The detected base skews to small, budget-hosted sites: 74.43% at 1 to 10 employees, 41.41% also running AMP, 60.4% seen exactly once.
4. We could not attribute that skew to any bundling platform, and we are not going to guess at one.
5. The enterprise tail is real but narrow: 148 companies at 10,001+ employees, usually on one subdomain each.
6. Our earliest reading of Astro anywhere is June 2021, matching its public beta, so any claim of Astro detections before then is wrong. The chart shows only our current crawl, from June 2026.
7. Every count in this category is a floor. Sites that strip their build fingerprints do not appear.
Sales applications
Targeting on TechnologyChecker.io: filter Astro plus 11 to 200 employees plus IT Services, Software Development or Marketing Services. That is the band with budget and with enough sites to make tooling worth buying.
Competitive angle: Gatsby loses domains to Astro one-directionally, 324 arriving and none going back, and Hugo runs 138 to 25 in Astro's favour. Migration-led outreach into those two bases has a measurable tailwind behind it.
What not to claim: do not quote a growth multiple for Astro from this page. Earlier readings exist but are deliberately not charted beside the current ones, because the two coverages are not the same measurement.

Frequently Asked Questions
Who uses Astro?
We detect Astro on 287,180 domains, including Unilever PLC, AccorHotels, Ikea Ab. A detection means the technology is present on that domain, which for large organisations is often a single storefront or subdomain rather than a company-wide deployment. Among domains we matched to a company with a resolved industry, the most common is IT Services and IT Consulting (7.86%).
How many customers does Astro have?
We detect 287,180 domains running Astro across our monthly crawl of live business domains. Company data could be matched for 108,170 of them (37.7%), and every company-size, industry and country breakdown on this page describes that matched subset rather than the full detected base. A further 17,154 domains carried a Astro detection previously and no longer do.
What is Astro's market share?
Astro holds 26.13% of the Static Site Generators category, ranking #2. This is a share of the domains we detect running a platform in this category — not a share of all websites, and not a share of spending — so it is not directly comparable to figures published on other denominators.
What are the best alternatives to Astro?
The top alternatives to Astro include Next.js (66.6% market share), Gatsby (2.71% market share), Hugo (2.61% market share), Jekyll (0.69% market share) — measured as a share of the domains we detect running a platform in this category.
Which countries use Astro the most?
United States leads with 25,444 matched Astro domains, followed by India (6,902), United Kingdom (6,852), Brazil (6,591), Germany (6,175). These are counts within the 108,170 domains we could match to a company record, not the full detected base.
What size companies use Astro?
The most common company size is 1-10 employees, representing 74.43% of the Astro domains we could match to a company record and size — a subset of 108,170 matched companies, not of all 287,180 detected domains. This is followed by 11-50 employees (18.16%) and 51-200 employees (4.83%).
How old are companies that use Astro?
Among the Astro domains we could match to a company with a known founding date, the largest group was founded in the 2020s (40.79%), followed by the 2010s (38.68%). That matched subset is drawn from 108,170 companies and is not representative of all 287,180 detected domains. This suggests Astro is most popular among relatively young companies.
What is the ideal customer profile for Astro?
The ideal Astro customer is: Company Size: 1-10 employees, Location: US, India, or the UK, Industry: IT Services and IT Consulting, Founded: 2020-2026, Company Age: Under 6 years old — based on our analysis of 108,170 enriched companies at TechnologyChecker.io.
Is Astro better than Next.js for SEO?
For content-heavy sites, Astro has the structural advantage. It ships zero JavaScript by default and renders pages as static HTML, while Next.js adds a React runtime to every page whether or not it is needed. Our switching data points the same way: since March 2026 we have recorded 2,128 domains dropping Next.js while running Astro, against 747 moving in the other direction. Next.js is still detected on 731,970 domains against Astro's 287,180, so this is a challenger gaining ground rather than a change of leader.
What CMS should I use with Astro?
Astro works with any headless CMS, and in practice most Astro sites do not run a detectable CMS at all. In our co-occurrence data, WordPress appears on just 0.77% of Astro domains, Wix on 0.32%, Shopify on 0.20% and Webflow on 0.17%. Astro's built-in Markdown, MDX and content collections cover a large share of the content-driven sites it is used for, and headless options connect through its integration directory when a separate editing layer is needed.
Is Astro a meta-framework?
Yes. Astro is a meta-framework that can use components from React, Vue, Svelte, Solid and other UI libraries on the same page. Its islands architecture renders most of the page as static HTML and only hydrates interactive components when needed. This differs from Next.js or Nuxt.js, which are tied to a single framework, React and Vue respectively.
Is Astro free to use?
Astro is free and open source under the MIT license. The Astro Technology Company was acquired by Cloudflare in January 2026, per Cloudflare's own acquisition announcement, and the framework remains under the MIT license with open governance and deployable anywhere. Deployment costs depend on your hosting provider; most static hosts offer a free tier for the kind of output Astro produces.
Can Astro handle dynamic content?
Yes. Astro supports server-side rendering and hybrid rendering modes alongside static generation, and you can mix static pages with dynamic API routes in the same project. Astro 6 introduced Live Content Collections, which update data without a full rebuild. That said, for highly interactive applications with complex client-side state, a full-stack framework such as Next.js or SvelteKit is usually the better fit, and that trade-off is the most common criticism in Astro's own review threads.
What happened with Astro and Cloudflare?
Cloudflare acquired The Astro Technology Company in January 2026, per Cloudflare's acquisition announcement. Astro team members joined Cloudflare, and the framework remains open source under the MIT license and deployable on any host. The acquisition does not tie Astro to a single platform, and our co-occurrence data reflects that: Cloudflare is the leading CDN on Astro domains at 20.99%, but roughly four in five Astro domains we profile sit somewhere else.
How fast are Astro websites?
Very fast for content sites. Sparkbox's independent framework benchmark measured Astro at a Lighthouse performance score of 100, with Time to Interactive of 0.3s, zero Total Blocking Time and Largest Contentful Paint of 0.4s, against 180ms of Total Blocking Time and 1.7s LCP for the same component in Next.js. The reason is architectural: Astro ships no client-side JavaScript by default, so a page is static HTML and CSS until you opt a component into hydration.
Does Astro support React components?
Yes. Astro's islands architecture lets you use React components alongside Vue, Svelte, Solid or Preact components on the same page. React components render as static HTML by default and are only hydrated when you add a client directive such as client:load or client:visible, so you get React's component model without shipping its full runtime to every visitor.
Is Astro good for blogs?
Astro is one of the strongest options for blogs. It was built for content-driven websites and includes Markdown, MDX and content collections with schema validation out of the box, and it ships no JavaScript by default, which is where most blog performance problems come from. Our data supports the fit at scale: content-oriented sites make up the bulk of the 287,180 domains where we currently detect Astro.
Is Astro replacing Gatsby?
In our switching data the flow runs one way. Since March 2026 we have recorded 324 domains moving from Gatsby to Astro and none moving from Astro to Gatsby. The size gap is now large as well: we detect Gatsby on 29,767 active domains against Astro's 287,180, which places Gatsby third in the static site generator category and Astro second.
What companies use Astro for their websites?
We currently detect Astro on 287,180 active domains. Named examples from our crawl include Unilever (www.unilever.com), IKEA (www.ikea.com), Adobe (adobe.com), BlackRock (blackrock.com), LEGO (www.lego.com), Michelin (www.michelin.com), Ferrari (ferrari.com), Lyft (lyft.com), AMD (developer.amd.com), Kuehne + Nagel (mykn.kuehne-nagel.com), Ryanair (privatetransfers.ryanair.com), Zomato (zomato.com), ASUS (press.asus.com) and the U.S. General Services Administration (smartpay.gsa.gov). Note how many of those are subdomains: enterprise Astro usage is typically one property, a docs portal or a microsite rather than a primary corporate website. The wider base is very different, with 74.43% of the companies we can size having 10 or fewer employees.
Is Astro better than Hugo?
It depends on what you are building. Astro is detected on 287,180 active domains against Hugo's 28,690, and our switching data records 138 domains moving from Hugo to Astro against 25 going back. Astro supports component-based development with React, Vue or Svelte, while Hugo uses Go templates and compiles very large sites faster. One caveat on the size comparison: these two are not detected with equal reach, so treat the ordering as more reliable than the ratio.
What industries use Astro the most?
IT Services and IT Consulting leads at 7.86%, followed by Software Development (7.04%), Business Consulting and Services (5.22%) and Technology, Information and Internet (4.82%). Those four are all tech-adjacent and combine for 24.94% of the companies we could enrich. Astro is not confined to tech, though: Advertising Services (3.34%), Construction (2.99%), Retail (2.25%), Marketing Services (2.24%) and Financial Services (2.15%) all carry meaningful volume.
Why did the number of Astro domains on this page change so much?
Because the chart and the headline both come from our current crawl, which measures more of the web than our earlier coverage did. We hold readings for Astro going back to its June 2021 public beta, but our coverage then and our coverage now are different enough that plotting them as one line would imply a rate of growth the data cannot support. Two things moved together over that period: the set of domains we crawl turns over every month, with dead domains dropping out and newly discovered ones coming in, and our detection signals widened. Part of the difference is Astro genuinely growing, which Astro's own year in review supports with weekly npm downloads rising from roughly 360,000 to over 900,000 during 2025. Part of it is us seeing more of the same web. They are not separable from a single number, so the chart shows three months on one consistent basis and we publish no rate across the rest.
