Companies Using Eleventy

Eleventy is hard to count, and I want to be upfront about why. We detect it by its generator tag, and Eleventy only prints that tag if a developer adds it. So every number below is a floor. In our October 2026 crawl the floor is 994 live domains; when I fetched all 999 clean homepages on 15 October, 923 carried the tag and 15 didn't answer. 528 match a company record. Eleventy is free and MIT-licensed, so the count is of sites.

A project changing hands, and names

Eleventy joined Font Awesome in September 2024, and in March 2026 the 11ty blog announced that Eleventy is now Build Awesome: version 4 will ship under the new name, existing plugins and build commands keep working, and a paid Build Awesome Pro tier funds the work without being required. Our crawl hasn't seen the switch yet. Of 922 homepages showing a version, 662 run Eleventy 3, 221 run 2 and 5 run a 4.0 alpha. Font Awesome's own blog is one of the Eleventy sites we detect.

Sales signal: when Build Awesome v4 ships, these sites face an upgrade with a new package name. Agencies and tools that help with that migration will have a reason to call.

Main websites, often built by an agency

Only 8 of the 50 companies in our list run Eleventy on a subdomain. It's the main website, and a lot of those websites were built for the owner. Construction is 6.05% of matched companies, ahead of design services: plumbers, pavers, pool builders and HVAC firms. Their footers give it away. Several Colorado businesses credit Lamplighter Web Design, others credit Oak Harbor Web Designs, and across all 999 homepages Oak Harbor is linked from at least 19 Eleventy sites and Lamplighter from at least 12. The other half is developers' own sites: at least 44 link to webmention.io, an IndieWeb service for replies between personal sites.

Sales signal: for trades businesses on Eleventy, the decision-maker for the website is often the agency, not the owner. Sell to the agencies that build these sites, and you reach their client lists.

Small, English-speaking, with a serious tail

74.8% of the 492 matched companies with a known size have 1 to 10 employees, and 62.97% of those with a country are in the US, UK, Australia, Canada or New Zealand. The United States alone has 183; Germany (35) and France (22) are the largest markets outside the English-speaking world. The tail is real, though: 8 companies have more than 1,000 staff, and several run their main site on it. Northern Arizona University runs nau.edu on it, Ookla runs ookla.com, Cambro runs cambro.com and Daher, a French aerospace group with more than 10,000 staff, runs daher.com. 8 matched companies predate 1960.

Sales signal: the large accounts here chose a hand-built static site for their main web presence. That's a team that cares about speed and control; performance monitoring, headless CMS and accessibility tools fit them.

A small corridor to Astro

Of the four small generators I profiled this month, Eleventy is the only one with a published switching row. 16 domains dropped Eleventy and now run Astro since March 2026, 14 of them in the last 90 days, and one went the other way. I checked who they are: personal sites of developers and a handful of small firms, no owner with more than two, and 15 of the 16 showed Astro on the homepage in October. Of 23 domains ever seen with both, only 6 still run both, so these look like finished rebuilds.

Sales signal: if you sell Astro themes, hosting or migration help, Eleventy developers are a warm audience, but a small one. 16 out of at least 994 doesn't make an exodus.

The stack around it

Percentages are of the 999 clean domains. Netlify hosts 45.95%, Cloudflare sits in front of 28.93% and DigitalOcean Spaces serves files for 6.21%. Tailwind CSS is on 23.12%, while jQuery is down at 11.21%. Analytics leans private: Google Analytics runs on 30.23%, and Plausible on 6.41%, Umami on 4.3% and Fathom on 1.9%. That's a stack chosen by people who read about web performance. Consent banners are rare too: Cookie Control, OneTrust, Cookiebot and CookieYes each show on 1.0% of domains.

Sales signal: privacy-first analytics already has a foothold here, so that pitch needs a sharper angle. Form handling, search and image tools for static sites are less crowded.

What I'd take away

• At least 994 Eleventy domains, 0.08% of static site generators, and a true floor because the generator tag is opt-in.
• It runs main websites: 42 of our 50 named companies use it on the root domain.
• Small and English-speaking, with large organisations such as Northern Arizona University, Ookla and Daher in the tail.
• The only published corridor among VitePress, Publii, Hexo and Eleventy: 16 domains to Astro.
• The project is becoming Build Awesome; v4 will bring a renamed package.

How I'd prospect this list

On TechnologyChecker.io, filter for Eleventy and a company match, then split the list in two: developer and design-studio sites, and small businesses whose sites were built by an agency. For the second group, read the footer credit and pitch the agency. For the first, open with the upgrade: "Your site runs Eleventy 2; Build Awesome v4 is coming, and here's what our tool does on a static build." For a competitive angle, the domains running Eleventy and Astro side by side are developers already weighing a move.
