Companies Using DigitalOcean Spaces

Our live crawl finds 41,623 domains publicly serving an image from a DigitalOcean Spaces bucket, and 19,675 of those resolve to a company record. Named companies using DigitalOcean Spaces include the Washington Post, Radio Canada, Loews Hotels, Geberit, Tramontina, Expro Group, IIT Delhi and Pepsi-Cola Products Philippines.

What we detect is a public asset. A page has to render an image from a .digitaloceanspaces.com bucket for the site to count here, so private buckets, backups and server-side reads never appear. 41,623 is a floor rather than a total. It also explains the shape of the named list: 10 of the 34 brands that use DigitalOcean Spaces below were detected on a side property, not the main site, including careers.washingtonpost.com, reservations.loewshotels.com and presse.radio-canada.ca.

Spaces is second of 19 technologies in Cloud Infrastructure with 5.44% share, behind Amazon S3 on 86.13%. Second place here means something particular. Almost nobody compares object stores and narrowly prefers this one; they decide not to be on AWS, then need somewhere to put files. The customer base shows it: 60.43% of matched companies employ 10 people or fewer and 65.12% were founded in 2010 or later.

The stack around these sites is modern and self-assembled. Cloudflare fronts 62.63% of them, Google Tag Manager runs on 59.45%, and Next.js at 13.82% is almost level with WordPress at 14.72%. Geographically the United States takes 32.7% of matched companies, with Brazil (5.39%) and India (4.66%) both ahead of Germany and France.

DigitalOcean Spaces Usage Statistics

We read 33,250 domains in June 2026, 41,125 in July and 41,623 in August. Read that as coverage rather than adoption. The set of domains we crawl turns over every month, with dead sites dropping out and newly discovered ones added, and our detection signals widen over time, so three points cannot carry a growth rate. July is a wide month across everything we track, not just Spaces. The August figure, 41,623, is the number quoted at the top of this page.

List of Companies Using DigitalOcean Spaces

Our list of companies using DigitalOcean Spaces on TechnologyChecker.io shows 34 of the 19,675 matched organisations, ordered by LinkedIn following. Read the detection URLs before the names. 10 of these 34 detections sit on a side property rather than the main site: careers.washingtonpost.com, reservations.loewshotels.com, presse.radio-canada.ca, crstrecruiter.crst.com, b2b.tramontina.com, shop.rodekruis.nl, rental.armac.com.br, sustainability.hirdaramani.com, iges.iitd.ac.in and info.lenord.fr.

The brands that use DigitalOcean Spaces at this size are not running their main estate on it. One team needed a bucket for one project and did not wait for the platform group. Sorting by company size finds those teams, but it does not find the base: most websites using DigitalOcean Spaces are far smaller than the names below, which is what the size chart shows.

Which Countries Use DigitalOcean Spaces the Most?

The United States accounts for 6,434 of the 19,675 matched companies, 32.7%, and the United Kingdom is second on 1,679 (8.53%). The interesting rows are next: Brazil at 1,061 (5.39%) and India at 917 (4.66%) both sit above Canada (3.73%), the Netherlands (3.72%) and Germany (3.72%), with France ninth at 1.98%. Enterprise software rarely orders that way. The four large English-speaking markets together reach 47.14%, which leaves most of this base outside them.

DigitalOcean Spaces Market Share Among Cloud Infrastructure

DigitalOcean Spaces holds 5.44% of Cloud Infrastructure and ranks second of 19, on 41,623 domains. Amazon S3 takes 86.13% on 659,040, so the top two are 91.56% of everything we detect in this category and the gap between first and second is 15.8 to 1. Read the table as a ranking, not a ratio: object storage is usually bought as part of a cloud account rather than chosen on its own, and each product here is identified by a signal of different strictness.

DigitalOcean Spaces Customers by Company Size & Age

60.43% of the matched companies employ 10 people or fewer and 25.35% employ 11 to 50, so 85.78% of this base sits under 50 staff. Only 225 companies, 1.24%, employ more than 1,000. That is what a self-serve storage bucket looks like from the outside: the buyer is one developer or a small team, and there is no procurement step to survive. Percentages run over the 18,182 matched companies with a recorded size band.

Company Size Distribution

Company Age (Founded Decade)

65.12% of these companies were founded in 2010 or later, split 39.66% in the 2010s and 25.46% in the 2020s, and only 12.37% predate 1990. Nothing here is a legacy estate being modernised. Read it next to the size chart and the same buyer appears twice: young, small, and cloud-native from the first line of code. Founding dates resolve for 10,067 of the matched companies.

What Industries Use DigitalOcean Spaces the Most?

No sector reaches 5.2%. Retail leads at 5.16% and Real Estate follows at 4.4%, with the six largest sectors together accounting for just 22.91% of the 17,151 matched companies that carry an industry. Merge the three technology labels and the ranking changes: Software Development (3.81%), Technology, Information and Internet (3.45%) and IT Services and IT Consulting (3.34%) come to 10.61%, which makes technology the real leading vertical by a wide margin.

Retail brands using DigitalOcean Spaces are the largest single label at 5.16%, and Edgars, the South African department store chain, appears in the named list below. Real estate companies on DigitalOcean Spaces come second at 4.4%, which fits a business that lives on hosting large photo sets cheaply, and McGrath in Australia and Propia in Argentina are both here. The pattern repeats through Restaurants (2.75%), Spectator Sports (2.08%) and Hospitality (1.92%): image-heavy businesses that need somewhere to put the pictures.

DigitalOcean Spaces Alternatives & Competitors

Within Cloud Infrastructure, Spaces is second of 19 on 41,623 domains and 5.44%, behind Amazon S3 (659,040, 86.13%) and ahead of Google Cloud Storage (26,268), Alibaba Cloud (18,768), Alibaba Cloud Object Storage Service (11,150) and Docker (3,788). The tail falls away fast: Oracle Cloud is tenth on 265 domains. Being second here is not the same as being a close second. It is being the object store people reach for once they have ruled out AWS, which is a different market from the one S3 wins.

DigitalOcean Spaces Customer Migration

We are not publishing a switching table for DigitalOcean Spaces, and the reason belongs on the page. This signal depends on a crawled page rendering an image from a Spaces bucket, so it disappears whenever a page loads without one: a hero image swapped, a template redesigned, a listing that happened to be empty the day we arrived. Counting those pages as departures would report the variance of our own visit as customer behaviour. Where a category really does support switching we publish the corridor. Here the measurement cannot separate a migration from a redesign.

Tech Stack of DigitalOcean Spaces-Powered Websites

Cloudflare fronts 62.63% of these domains, which is worth a pause, because Spaces ships its own CDN and four of the five buckets we sampled were using it. These sites bought storage from one vendor and delivery from another. Google Tag Manager runs on 59.45% and Google Analytics on 57.44%. Further down sits the row that names this base: Next.js at 13.82% is effectively level with WordPress at 14.72%, while Nginx (19.2%) runs about two and a half times as often as Apache (7.79%). jQuery is still on 55.1%, so this is not a uniformly modern base, but it is neither an enterprise estate nor a WordPress one. Shares are of the DigitalOcean Spaces domains we could evaluate at TechnologyChecker.io.

Expert Analysis: DigitalOcean Spaces Growth Trends & Key Signals for Sales Teams in 2026

David Thomson
David ThomsonCTO, TechnologyChecker

Second place in a category with one winner

Object storage is the most concentrated market we track. Amazon S3 is on 659,040 domains and 86.13% of Cloud Infrastructure. DigitalOcean Spaces is second at 41,623 domains and 5.44%. Between them they are 91.56% of everything we detect in the category, and the distance from first to second is 15.8 to 1.

A gap that size usually means second place is a consolation prize. Here it means something more specific. Almost nobody arrives at Spaces by evaluating object stores on the merits and narrowly preferring it. They arrive having decided not to be on AWS, and then needing somewhere to put files. That is a different purchase from the one S3 wins, and it turns up in every other chart on this page.

Second in this category is not "nearly first". It is the default for people who already ruled out the default.

Small, young, and buying without a committee

60.43% of the matched companies employ 10 people or fewer. Add the 11-to-50 band and 85.78% of this base is under 50 staff. Companies above 1,000 employees number 225, 1.24%. Put the age chart beside it and the same buyer appears twice: 65.12% were founded in 2010 or later, 39.66% in the 2010s and 25.46% in the 2020s, with only 12.37% predating 1990.

Small and young is the shape of a product bought on a card. There is no vendor review for a storage bucket and no negotiation. It gets chosen the way a developer chooses a text editor, and it stays chosen until something breaks. That also sets the ceiling: this base grows by the number of new small companies starting on DigitalOcean, not by enterprise displacement.

What the named list actually shows

The 34 companies below are ordered by LinkedIn following, and they look nothing like the size chart. The Washington Post is here. So are Loews Hotels, Geberit, Tramontina, Pepsi-Cola Products Philippines and IIT Delhi. That contradiction is the most useful thing on this page, and the detection URLs resolve it. 10 of the 34 detections sit on a side property rather than the main site: careers.washingtonpost.com, reservations.loewshotels.com, presse.radio-canada.ca, crstrecruiter.crst.com, b2b.tramontina.com, shop.rodekruis.nl, rental.armac.com.br, sustainability.hirdaramani.com, iges.iitd.ac.in and info.lenord.fr.

A press room, a booking flow, two recruiting sites, a wholesale portal, a charity shop, an equipment rental portal, a sustainability microsite, a local government information site and a single university institute page. None of them is a corporate estate on DigitalOcean. Each is one team inside a large organisation that needed a bucket for one project. Sorting by company size finds those teams; it does not find the base.

A developer geography, not an enterprise one

The United States takes 6,434 of the 19,675 matched companies, 32.7%, and the United Kingdom 1,679 (8.53%). Then the order stops looking familiar. Brazil is third on 1,061 (5.39%) and India fourth on 917 (4.66%), both above Canada (3.73%), the Netherlands (3.72%) and Germany (3.72%). France is ninth at 1.98%.

Enterprise infrastructure profiles do not order that way; they put Germany and France near the top and Brazil well down. We cannot see what anyone pays, only where they deploy, so treat price sensitivity as the obvious reading rather than a measured one. The four large English-speaking markets reach 47.14% between them, which still leaves the majority of this base somewhere else.

The stack says independent web

Cloudflare fronts 62.63% of these domains. That is worth pausing on, because Spaces ships its own CDN and four of the five buckets we sampled were served through it. These sites bought storage from one vendor and delivery from another, on purpose. Google Tag Manager runs on 59.45% and Google Analytics on 57.44%, which is ordinary.

The row that names the base is further down. Next.js reaches 13.82%, effectively level with WordPress at 14.72%. Nginx at 19.2% runs about two and a half times as often as Apache at 7.79%. jQuery is still present on 55.1% and core-js on 44.08%, so this is not a uniformly modern estate, but a base where a React framework is as common as the world's most-used CMS is not an enterprise base and not a WordPress base either. It is people building their own thing.

What this page measures, and what it cannot

We identify DigitalOcean Spaces when a page publicly serves an image from a .digitaloceanspaces.com bucket. That one sentence sets the limit on every number above. A private bucket is invisible. So is a backup, a video pipeline, a server-side read, and any site serving only JavaScript or downloads from Spaces with no image on the page we reached. 41,623 is a floor. Whatever the real deployed number is, it is larger than this, and we would rather say so than imply precision we do not have.

We opened five randomly sampled live domains in a browser. All five loaded genuine Spaces buckets, across three regions and five different bucket names: lumaguide.sfo3.cdn, dte-live.fra1, logo-showcase.fra1.cdn, idxaddonsdocs.sfo3.cdn and cc-client-assets.nyc3.cdn. No shared template and no single cohort behind them, which is the failure mode to worry about with a signal like this one.

The bucket names are the tell. Five samples, five names, three regions. That is a real distribution rather than one company's assets turning up everywhere.

One honest caveat comes from those same names. A bucket called cc-client-assets reads like an agency serving files for its clients, which would mean a detection can record somebody else's Spaces account rather than the site owner's. Read this page as sites that load files from Spaces, not as a confirmed customer list. It is the same reason there is no switching table here: the signal drops out whenever a page renders without a Spaces image, so departures and redesigns look identical, and we will not publish the second as the first.

What to take from this

If you sell to this base, you are selling to a company of fewer than ten people, founded after 2010, more likely in the United States, Brazil or India than in Germany, running Cloudflare in front and either Next.js or WordPress behind. If you are sizing the market, use 41,623 as a floor for publicly visible usage and assume the true figure is higher. If you are comparing vendors, read the category table as a ranking rather than a ratio: Oracle Cloud sits tenth on 265 domains, which tells you how little the tail means. Our cloud provider traffic share analysis looks at the same market from the traffic side.

Frequently Asked Questions

Who uses DigitalOcean Spaces?

We detect DigitalOcean Spaces on 41,623 domains, and 19,675 of them resolve to a company record. Named users include the Washington Post, Radio Canada, Loews Hotels, Geberit, Tramontina, Expro Group and IIT Delhi. The typical user is far smaller than those names suggest: 60.43% of matched companies employ 10 people or fewer, and 65.12% were founded in 2010 or later.

How many customers does DigitalOcean Spaces have?

We detect DigitalOcean Spaces on 41,623 domains, with company data matched for 19,675 of them. Counts are domains, not accounts. Our records also hold 17,744 domains that showed a Spaces-hosted asset earlier in the current window and did not on their most recent crawl. That is mostly pages rendering without a Spaces image on a given visit, so do not read it as sites leaving Spaces.

What is DigitalOcean Spaces's market share?

DigitalOcean Spaces holds 5.44% of our Cloud Infrastructure category and ranks second of 19 technologies, on 41,623 domains. Amazon S3 leads with 86.13% on 659,040 domains, so the two together are 91.56% of the category. This is a share of the domains we detect running a platform in this category, not a share of cloud spending.

What are the best alternatives to DigitalOcean Spaces?

By deployment the alternatives are Amazon S3 (659,040 domains), Google Cloud Storage (26,268), Alibaba Cloud (18,768), Alibaba Cloud Object Storage Service (11,150) and Docker (3,788). Amazon S3 is the realistic comparison for almost anyone. Below the top five the tail is thin: Oracle Cloud sits tenth on 265 domains across the whole category.

Which countries use DigitalOcean Spaces the most?

The United States leads with 6,434 of the 19,675 matched companies, 32.7%, followed by the United Kingdom on 1,679 (8.53%), Brazil on 1,061 (5.39%) and India on 917 (4.66%). Brazil and India both rank above Canada, the Netherlands and Germany, which is unusual and points at a developer-led rather than enterprise-led base.

What size companies use DigitalOcean Spaces?

60.43% of matched DigitalOcean Spaces companies employ 10 people or fewer and 25.35% employ 11 to 50, so 85.78% of the base sits under 50 staff. Only 225 companies, 1.24%, employ more than 1,000. Percentages run over the 18,182 matched companies that carry a recorded size band, not over all 41,623 detected domains.

How old are companies that use DigitalOcean Spaces?

65.12% of matched companies were founded in 2010 or later, split 39.66% in the 2010s and 25.46% in the 2020s. Another 15.17% date from the 2000s. Only 12.37% predate 1990. Founding dates resolve for 10,067 of the matched companies. Read with the size chart, the picture is a base of small companies that were born on the cloud rather than moved onto it.

What is the ideal customer profile for DigitalOcean Spaces?

A company of ten people or fewer, founded after 2010, most often in the United States, the United Kingdom, Brazil or India, running an image-heavy site in retail, real estate or software. It sits behind Cloudflare, uses Next.js or WordPress, and picked DigitalOcean because it did not want an AWS account.

What does a DigitalOcean Spaces detection actually mean?

It means a page on that domain publicly served an image from a .digitaloceanspaces.com bucket when we reached it. Private buckets, backups, server-side reads and video pipelines are all invisible to that, so 41,623 is a floor. A detection can also record an agency's bucket rather than the site owner's own Spaces account.

Is DigitalOcean Spaces used by large companies?

Yes, but rarely across the whole company. Only 1.24% of matched companies employ more than 1,000 people, and among the 34 largest names on this page, 10 detections sit on a side property such as careers.washingtonpost.com or reservations.loewshotels.com. The usual pattern is one team inside a big organisation putting one project's assets on Spaces.

Is DigitalOcean Spaces compatible with Amazon S3?

Spaces exposes an S3-compatible API, which is why most tooling written for S3 works against it without changes. Deployment is another matter: we detect Amazon S3 on 659,040 domains against 41,623 for Spaces, a gap of 15.8 to 1, so compatibility has not translated into anything close to comparable adoption.

Why is there no switching data on this page?

Because the measurement cannot support it. This signal depends on a crawled page rendering an image from a Spaces bucket, so it disappears when a hero image is swapped or a template is redesigned. A domain that stops showing the signal has not necessarily stopped using Spaces, so publishing those domains as departures would report our own visit-to-visit variance as customer churn.

What technologies are used alongside DigitalOcean Spaces?

Cloudflare appears on 62.63% of these domains, Google Tag Manager on 59.45%, Google Analytics on 57.44% and jQuery on 55.1%. The revealing rows are lower: Next.js at 13.82% is nearly level with WordPress at 14.72%, and Nginx at 19.2% runs well ahead of Apache at 7.79%. This is a self-assembled stack rather than an enterprise or WordPress one.
