OneTrust Usage Statistics

OneTrust's adoption curve tracks privacy law almost exactly: our records show 61 active domains in January 2018, 867 a year later once GDPR enforcement began, and 13,572 by 2022 as CCPA took hold. Our current crawl counts 174,655 active domains as of August 2026. Counts aren't a like-for-like series over time. The set of domains we crawl turns over every month, with dead sites dropping out and newly discovered ones added, and our detection signals widen over time, so read the long-run shape as a trend rather than a same-domain comparison.

List of Companies Using OneTrust

Our verified list of companies using OneTrust on TechnologyChecker.io spans brands that use OneTrust from consulting (Accenture, Deloitte, PwC) to fast food (McDonald's, Burger King) to aerospace (Boeing, RTX). Unlike most consent tools, the websites using OneTrust here are usually primary corporate domains rather than microsites: ibm.com, mcdonalds.com, and bankofamerica.com all serve its banner directly.

Which countries use OneTrust the most? The United States leads with 39,900 companies, 50.7% of the 78,649 located companies in our enriched sample, followed by the United Kingdom (9,236) and Germany (3,531). That US majority is worth pausing on. Consent platforms are usually read as a GDPR story, yet CCPA, CPRA, and the wave of US state privacy laws have made consent an American compliance problem too, and OneTrust's Atlanta roots show in the data.

OneTrust Customer Migration

In the churn we've observed since March 2026, OneTrust gained 2,168 domains from the eight consent platforms listed here and lost 1,334 back, a 1.6:1 gain ratio. The two flows tell different stories: it pulls from enterprise rivals (301 domains gained from TrustArc against 167 lost) while leaking small sites to budget tools like Cookie Control and CookieYes. Counts are domains observed switching in our crawl, not contracted customers.

Tech Stack of OneTrust-Powered Websites

Of the 100,000 OneTrust domains we sampled, 83.45% run Google Tag Manager and 64.3% run Google Analytics, which is the practical reason OneTrust exists: consent banners gate exactly these tags. The Adobe cluster is the enterprise tell. Adobe Experience Platform Launch (12.97%), Adobe Analytics (9.46%), and Adobe DTM (9.45%) rarely appear in mid-market stacks, and LinkedIn Insight Tag (17.33%) outranking TikTok Pixel (6.24%) confirms the B2B skew.

OneTrust Customer Reviews with Pros and Cons

Based on aggregated G2 reviews of OneTrust Privacy Automation (28 sentiment mentions), the split is clean: reviewers praise ease of use once the platform is running, while setup complexity and the learning curve dominate the criticism. That tension matches its enterprise profile: OneTrust assumes a dedicated privacy team.

Generated from real user reviews on G2

Pros
  • The most-cited pro is ease of use: once configured, reviewers describe an organized, centralized console for day-to-day privacy work.(4 reviews)
  • Reviewers value getting consent, assessments, and data mapping in one platform instead of stitching together point tools.(3 reviews)
  • The automation of privacy tasks draws praise, particularly for subject-rights requests that previously ran on spreadsheets.(2 reviews)
  • Teams running multiple domains highlight centralized privacy workflows that cut manual effort across compliance work.(2 reviews)
  • A second cluster of reviews repeats the all-in-one theme, crediting the platform with keeping GDPR and CCPA workflows in a single place.(2 reviews)
Cons
  • The word reviewers reach for most is complexity: effective configuration takes significant time and training.(3 reviews)
  • The setup process specifically gets called daunting, a real cost on top of quote-based enterprise pricing.(3 reviews)
  • New administrators report a steep learning curve before the platform's breadth becomes usable.(3 reviews)
  • Reviewers want more from reporting and dashboards, the one area where feature depth draws criticism.(3 reviews)
  • Even experienced privacy teams note the training demands: the platform assumes dedicated administrators, not occasional users.(3 reviews)

Expert Analysis: OneTrust Growth Trends & Key Signals for Sales Teams in 2026

Mehmet Suleyman
Mehmet SuleymanCEO & Co-founder, TechnologyChecker

I've spent the last decade building crawlers that fingerprint what the web runs, and OneTrust is one of the rare technologies where the detection data and the sales narrative tell the same story. As of our August 2026 crawl, we track 174,655 active domains serving OneTrust consent tooling, matched 81,899 of them to LinkedIn company profiles (a 46% match rate), and have watched its churn corridor by corridor since March 2026. Here's what that data says about who buys OneTrust, who leaves it, and where the openings are.

1. Growth trajectory: privacy law as a time series

OneTrust's curve is regulation rendered as adoption data. Our records show 12 active domains in early 2017, 61 in January 2018, and 867 a year later, right as GDPR enforcement found its teeth. CCPA repeated the pattern: 2,443 domains in January 2020 became 6,506 by 2021 and 13,572 by 2022. By January 2024 we recorded 30,824, and our current crawl counts 174,655. Two caveats belong here. The domain set we crawl turns over every month, dead sites out and newly discovered ones in, and our detection signals have widened over time, so the long-run shape is a trend rather than a same-domain comparison. The visible step between mid-2025 and mid-2026 reflects those changes on our side, not a sudden adoption surge.

"Every major privacy law shows up in this curve about a year after it passes. You can read GDPR, CCPA, and the state-law wave off OneTrust's adoption data like tree rings." - Mehmet Suleyman, CEO & Co-founder at TechnologyChecker.io

Sales Signal: This addressable market grows by statute. Each new state privacy law or EU act pulls another cohort of legal teams into procurement, so time consent-platform outreach to enforcement deadlines, not product cycles.

2. Customer profile: institutions, not startups

The size table looks SMB at first glance: 73.7% of the 74,715 companies with employee data have 200 or fewer staff, many of them on OneTrust's self-serve cookie consent tier. The tail is what matters. 2,543 companies employ over 10,000 people, and the age distribution is unlike anything else we track in this category: 16% of OneTrust's enriched base was founded before 1960, against just 6.29% founded in the 2020s. Banks, insurers, universities, manufacturers. Institutions with legal exposure, in other words. The top of the customer list reads accordingly: Tata Consultancy Services, Accenture, Deloitte, McDonald's, IBM, PwC. Our detections also line up with OneTrust's own published customer stories; Scania, BT Group, GOL Airlines, and Boehringer Ingelheim appear both in their case-study library and in our live crawl, usually on primary domains like bt.com rather than forgotten microsites.

Sales Signal: Companies founded before 1960 that added a consent platform are buying compliance infrastructure, not a banner widget. They have privacy teams, budgets, and multi-year contracts, and they respond to risk framing over feature framing.

3. Industry and geography: an American compliance story

No vertical exceeds 7% of OneTrust's base. Real Estate leads at 6.43%, then Financial Services (4.58%), Software Development (4.30%), Retail (4.17%), and Insurance (4.02%). The flat curve is what a horizontal compliance layer should look like, but the regulated cluster of finance, insurance, and healthcare still sums to 11.1%. Geography is the sharper finding: the United States accounts for 50.7% of the 78,649 located companies, and English-speaking markets combine for 69%. The nine EU countries in our top-15 table total 13,845 companies, or 17.6%. For a product category born from GDPR, OneTrust's center of gravity is unmistakably American, pulled there by CCPA, CPRA, and the state-law wave.

Sales Signal: The under-penetrated surface isn't Europe, where consent tooling is saturated and cheaper local rivals fight on price. It's US mid-market companies newly caught by state privacy laws, and 39,900 US companies in this dataset are the prospecting pool.

4. Migration: winning upmarket, leaking downmarket

Since March 2026 we've watched OneTrust gain 2,168 domains from the eight consent rivals in our migration table and lose 1,334 back, a 1.6:1 gain ratio. The composition matters more than the total. The single largest inflow is 653 domains from AdRoll's CMP, consistent with sites consolidating off ad-vendor consent tools. Against TrustArc, its closest enterprise rival, OneTrust gained 301 domains and lost 167, and it pulled 341 from Consent Manager. The losses run the other way down the price ladder: 260 domains left for Cookie Control, 221 for CookieYes, 210 for Cookiebot. Small sites that inherited OneTrust and never needed it are trading down.

"OneTrust is winning the enterprise consolidation battle and losing the price battle in the same quarter. Both signals are real, and they point at two different sales teams." - Mehmet Suleyman, CEO & Co-founder at TechnologyChecker.io

Sales Signal: Two-sided opportunity. Consent rivals can target the 12,753 domains that dropped OneTrust since March 2026 with a cost story; OneTrust's own team, and anyone selling into its base, should watch TrustArc and Consent Manager defections as active buying windows.

5. Technology ecosystem: the Adobe tell

Of the 100,000 OneTrust domains we sampled for co-occurrence, 83.45% run Google Tag Manager and 64.3% run Google Analytics. That's the mechanical reason consent platforms exist: the banner gates those exact tags, a dependency Google hardened when Consent Mode v2 became mandatory for EEA advertisers. The enterprise tell is Adobe. Adobe Experience Platform Launch (12.97%), Adobe Analytics (9.46%), and Adobe DTM (9.45%) are rounding errors on most consent tools' customer bases; here they mark six-figure martech budgets. Same story in paid media: LinkedIn Insight Tag (17.33%) beats TikTok Pixel (6.24%), a B2B inversion of the usual order, and WordPress sits at just 16.8% while Adobe Experience Manager reaches 10.67%.

Sales Signal: Filter for OneTrust plus Adobe Launch and you get a shortlist of a few thousand companies that already spend heavily on martech governance. That intersection is a better enterprise qualifier than any employee-count filter.

6. G2 review signals

G2's sentiment summary for OneTrust Privacy Automation carries a tension worth reading closely: ease of use is the top pro (4 mentions), while 12 of the 15 con mentions describe setup complexity and learning difficulty. Both are true. Reviewers describe a platform that runs well once a trained team owns it and punishes casual administration. Our migration data backs that reading: the domains leaving OneTrust go to simpler, cheaper banners like Cookie Control and CookieYes (481 domains combined since March 2026), while inflows come from enterprises consolidating off TrustArc and ad-vendor CMPs. The complexity is a filter, and it filters exactly along the line our size data draws.

Sales Signal: Complexity complaints are churn predictors. A small site running OneTrust with no privacy headcount is a downgrade candidate for cheaper rivals; an enterprise complaining about dashboards is an expansion opportunity for reporting vendors, not a churn risk.

Key takeaways

1. OneTrust ranks #8 by domain count (4.52%) in Consent & Privacy Management but first by enterprise depth, with 2,543 enriched companies over 10,000 employees.

2. Adoption tracks legislation: GDPR, CCPA, and US state laws are each visible in our detection history.

3. The base is institutional. 16% of enriched companies predate 1960, and all four of the largest US banks serve its banner.

4. Migration runs 1.6:1 in OneTrust's favor, gaining from TrustArc and Consent Manager while leaking small sites to CookieYes and Cookiebot-class tools.

5. The US, not Europe, is its center of gravity at 50.7% of located companies.

Sales applications

Outreach template: "We noticed {company} runs OneTrust alongside Adobe Launch on {domain}. Teams with that stack usually own consent across dozens of brand domains; here's how {product} fits into that governance layer." Referencing the actual stack beats any generic privacy pitch.

Targeting strategy: On TechnologyChecker.io, filter OneTrust customers by the regulated cluster (Financial Services, Insurance, Hospitals and Health Care) and 1,000-plus headcount. That intersection is roughly 9,300 companies with active compliance budgets and multi-domain estates.

Competitive angle: The 12,753 domains that dropped OneTrust since March 2026 are the warmest list in the consent category. Most left for cheaper tools, so a mid-price rival with real GDPR coverage can win them on cost without losing the compliance argument.

Banking stands out: Bank of America, JPMorgan Chase, Wells Fargo, and Citigroup, the four largest US banks, all serve OneTrust consent banners on their primary domains.

Does Microsoft use OneTrust?

Our live crawl doesn't detect OneTrust on microsoft.com; Microsoft runs its own consent tooling. The confusion is understandable, since most of Microsoft's enterprise peers do use it: IBM, HP, and Dell all carry OneTrust banners in our data. We only list domains where the OneTrust SDK actually appears.

Is OneTrust legitimate?

Yes. OneTrust was founded in 2016, is headquartered in Atlanta, and reports over 14,000 customers including 75% of the Fortune 100. Our crawl independently confirms the footprint: 174,655 live domains served its consent SDK as of August 2026, the largest enterprise privacy platform we track on TechnologyChecker.io.

Who owns OneTrust?

OneTrust is privately held. Co-founder Kabir Barday leads the company as CEO, with backing from Insight Partners, TCV, SoftBank Vision Fund 2, and Generation Investment Management. The company has raised over $1 billion in total; its June 2023 round valued it at $4.5 billion, below the roughly $5 billion valuations reported in 2020 and 2021.

Is OneTrust going to IPO?

Not yet. As of early 2026 OneTrust remains private and doesn't trade on any exchange. Pre-IPO trackers like Forge Global list it as a candidate, and 2026 press reports describe possible private equity interest, but no listing date is announced. Its last confirmed valuation was $4.5 billion, from a $150 million round in June 2023.

How much does OneTrust cost?

OneTrust doesn't publish prices; every deal is quote-based. Third-party pricing reviews in 2026 put cookie consent at roughly $1,100 per month for a single domain, with CCPA and privacy automation modules costing more. That's a different league from self-serve tools like CookieYes, which is exactly the split our migration data shows.

What are OneTrust cookies used for?

The OptanonConsent cookie stores a visitor's consent choices: which cookie categories they accepted, when, and for which site. Its companion OptanonAlertBoxClosed records that the banner was dismissed so it doesn't reappear on every page view. The Optanon name is a legacy brand from the early cookie compliance product OneTrust's consent module grew out of.

What are the different cookie categories in OneTrust?

OneTrust ships four default categories: strictly necessary, performance, functional, and targeting cookies. Site owners can rename them, add custom groups such as social media cookies, and map every scanned cookie to a category. The visitor's per-category choices are what the OptanonConsent cookie records and what tag managers read to fire or block tags.

Who are OneTrust's main competitors?

It depends on the segment. On raw domain volume, CookieYes (19.9% share), Complianz (11.64%), and Cookiebot (7.44%) all out-count OneTrust in our crawl. For enterprise privacy programs its real rivals are TrustArc, Osano, Ketch, Didomi, and Securiti. Our migration data shows OneTrust gaining from TrustArc at nearly a 2:1 ratio.

What industries use OneTrust the most?

Real estate leads at 6.43% of enriched companies, followed by financial services (4.58%), software development (4.30%), retail (4.17%), and insurance (4.02%). No industry exceeds 7%, so OneTrust is genuinely horizontal. The regulated cluster is the pattern that matters: finance, insurance, and healthcare together represent 11.1% of its base in our data.

Why do enterprises pick OneTrust over cheaper consent tools?

Scale and scope. One OneTrust contract can govern hundreds of brand domains with central policies, geolocation rules, and integrations into Adobe and Google tag stacks; our co-occurrence data confirms it, with 83% of OneTrust domains running Google Tag Manager. Consent is also the entry point to a wider platform covering privacy automation, third-party risk, and AI governance.

Why do you detect more OneTrust domains than OneTrust reports customers?

OneTrust reports 14,000+ customers; we count 174,655 active domains. Both are right. A single enterprise contract typically covers an entire brand portfolio, and detections also include sites on free or trial consent tiers. That works out to roughly 12 domains per reported customer, which is what you'd expect from a platform sold to multinationals rather than single-site owners.

Is OneTrust still used in 2026?

Very much so. Our August 2026 crawl finds 174,655 domains actively serving OneTrust consent tooling, and in the churn we've tracked since March 2026 it gained 2,168 domains from rival consent platforms while losing 1,334. Gartner also named OneTrust a Visionary in its 2026 Magic Quadrant for AI Governance Platforms.

Does OneTrust work with Google Consent Mode?

Yes. OneTrust passes consent signals to Google Consent Mode v2, which Google made mandatory for advertisers reaching the EEA in March 2024. The pairing is the default enterprise setup in our data: 83.45% of OneTrust domains run Google Tag Manager and 64.3% run Google Analytics, exactly the tags consent mode regulates.
