Companies Using Adobe Marketo Engage

Our live crawl verifies 12,901 companies using Marketo on their own web properties, from IBM, Nokia, and Hewlett Packard Enterprise to Kaiser Permanente, Mayo Clinic, Workday, and Atlassian. Every detection is a live public page loading Marketo's tracking code under the company's own domain, which makes this a record of deployments rather than licences. The subdomain is often the most useful field: campaign, event, and newsroom hosts show which team owns demand generation. Below is the full list of companies using Marketo, with headcount, industry, location, and the exact subdomain where we found it.

Adobe Marketo Engage Usage Statistics

Our records trace Marketo from 2 detected sites in December 2008 to 5,770 by the end of 2024, then 12,901 in our current crawl. The step between those two stretches reflects changes on our side, both the domains we cover and the signals we detect Marketo with, rather than a surge in adoption. The long-run direction is steady growth across sixteen years, with no year showing a reversal.

Adobe Marketo Engage Customers by Company Size & Age

Marketo spans the full size range, with 45.28% of matched companies between 11 and 200 employees and 14.13% above 1,000. That enterprise share is the number to compare: Oracle Eloqua reaches 18.39%, Salesforce Marketing Cloud Account Engagement 9.15%, and HubSpot 1.69%. Marketo is eight times more enterprise-concentrated than the category leader.

What Industries Use Adobe Marketo Engage the Most?

Software Development leads at 18.68%, more than twice its share on any competing platform we measure the same way. IT Services follows at 7.36% and Financial Services at 5.49%. Marketo's base is overwhelmingly companies that sell technology to other businesses.

Financial Services329 (5.49%)
Hospitals and Health Care202 (3.37%)
Advertising Services163 (2.72%)

The concentration in software is not a general property of marketing automation. Software Development accounts for 7.28% of Oracle Eloqua's base, 8.26% of Salesforce Marketing Cloud Account Engagement's, and 8.54% of HubSpot's. Marketo sits at 18.68%. Combined with IT Services and Computer and Network Security, more than a quarter of the matched base sells to other businesses, which tells you the sales cycle is long and the buying committee is large.

Adobe Marketo Engage Alternatives & Competitors

HubSpot leads Marketing Automation with 583,796 domains and 47.55% share, a footprint built on small businesses rather than enterprises. HighLevel follows with 109,442. Salesforce Marketing Cloud Account Engagement is the closest direct rival at 49,175 domains, and Oracle Eloqua, the platform Marketo most resembles in buyer profile, sits well below Marketo at 5,198.

Adobe Marketo Engage Customer Migration

The table counts domains that dropped Marketo and now run a named replacement, or dropped a competitor and now run Marketo, observed since April 2026. Figures quoted elsewhere on this page use the 90 day view, which you can select above the table. It lists marketing automation platforms only. Account-based tools such as 6sense and conversational tools such as Qualified show high co-occurrence with Marketo, but teams run them alongside a marketing automation platform rather than instead of one, so counting them as switches would misread complements as defections.

Adobe Marketo Engage Customer Reviews with Pros and Cons

Generated from real user reviews on G2

Pros
  • Reviewers rate day-to-day usability highest. Once a program is built, marketers report launching and editing campaigns without going back to an administrator.(192 reviews)
  • Multi-channel automation is the second theme. Reviewers describe running email, web behaviour, and event follow-up from a single program rather than coordinating three tools.(185 reviews)
  • Reviewers point to the pairing of native integrations with segmentation, which lets them build a target list from CRM fields without exporting data first.(142 reviews)
  • CRM sync draws consistent praise, in particular two-way field mapping that keeps sales and marketing looking at the same record.(129 reviews)
  • The depth of the campaign engine is cited by reviewers who need branching logic and scoring rules that simpler platforms cannot express.(119 reviews)
Cons
  • The dominant complaint is the steep learning curve. Reviewers report needing weeks of hands-on time before they can build a program unaided.(176 reviews)
  • Reviewers without a technical background describe needing outside help to get started, whether from an agency, a contractor, or a certified colleague.(135 reviews)
  • The interface reads as dated to reviewers, who say occasional users lose their place and have to relearn common paths.(108 reviews)
  • Campaign management complexity comes up for newer users, who find the flexibility that powers advanced programs makes simple tasks longer.(99 reviews)
  • Pricing is the most common commercial objection, with reviewers outside North America and Western Europe describing it as hard to justify.(87 reviews)

Expert Analysis: Adobe Marketo Engage Growth Trends & Key Signals for Sales Teams in 2026

Elif Arslan
Elif ArslanCMO & Co-founder, TechnologyChecker

Marketo occupies an unusual position in our data. It ranks twelfth in Marketing Automation with 12,901 domains and 1.05% share, sitting behind tools most enterprise marketers have never evaluated: push-notification widgets, Shopify apps, and agency site builders that each carry tens of thousands of small merchants. Rank in this category measures how many websites a product touches, not how much revenue or strategic weight sits behind it. Read Marketo by the shape of its install base instead, and a very different platform appears.

The enterprise ladder, measured the same way four times

Company size is where the category separates. Among the 6,572 Marketo domains we matched to company records, 14.13% employ more than 1,000 people and 3.39% employ more than 10,000. Run that identical calculation across the platforms we have already profiled and a clean ordering emerges: Oracle Eloqua at 18.39%, Marketo at 14.13%, Salesforce Marketing Cloud Account Engagement at 9.15%, and HubSpot at 1.69%. Marketo is eight times more enterprise-concentrated than the category leader that carries forty-five times its domain count.

Marketo trails Eloqua on enterprise concentration and beats every other platform in the category. That second-place finish is the honest headline, and it is more useful than the rank the category table shows.

The absolute numbers cut the other way and both belong on the page. Marketo's 14.13% works out to 889 companies above 1,000 employees. Salesforce's platform, at a lower 9.15%, still reaches roughly 3,417 such companies because its footprint is far wider. Concentration tells you what kind of buyer a platform attracts. Volume tells you how many of them there are. A seller working an enterprise list wants the first number; a seller working on volume wants the second.

Marketo is the software industry's platform

The industry split is the sharpest single finding in this profile. Software Development accounts for 18.68% of Marketo's matched companies, 1,120 of them. The same industry accounts for 7.28% of Eloqua's base, 8.26% of Salesforce's, and 8.54% of HubSpot's. Marketo is more than twice as concentrated in software as any platform we can measure the same way. Add IT Services at 7.36% and Computer and Network Security at 1.95% and more than a quarter of the base sells technology to other businesses.

This matters for anyone selling into the Marketo base. The buyer is usually a demand generation team at a software company with a long sales cycle, a named account list, and a sales organisation that expects marketing to source pipeline. That is a different conversation from the one you would have with a retailer or a hospital system.

Adobe owns Marketo. Its install base has not fully followed.

Adobe acquired Marketo in 2018 to complete Experience Cloud, so the obvious question is whether Marketo customers buy the rest of the suite. Restricting both platforms to companies above 1,000 employees, so that company size cannot distort the comparison, 24.75% of enterprise Marketo domains run Adobe's tag manager against 21.96% of Eloqua's. Adobe Analytics runs the other way: 18.67% of enterprise Marketo domains against 20.26% for Eloqua.

Seven years after the acquisition, roughly three quarters of enterprise Marketo sites still do not run Adobe's tag manager, and more than four in five do not run Adobe Analytics. Google's tools hold both positions decisively, with Google Tag Manager on 92.48% of Marketo domains and Google Analytics on 88.08%. Suite consolidation is visible in the numbers, and it is nowhere near complete.

Salesforce is the system of record

Where a CRM is detectable, Salesforce appears on 10.06% of Marketo domains against 0.52% for Microsoft Dynamics 365, a ratio of nineteen to one. The practical reading is that a Marketo account is almost always a Salesforce account too. Anyone selling a tool that has to write into the CRM should assume Salesforce and treat Dynamics as the exception worth qualifying for.

Where accounts move

Our churn observation for Marketo opens in April 2026, so these are recent movements rather than a long history. Over the last 90 days, Marketo lost 363 domains to HubSpot and gained 97 back. Against Salesforce it lost 205 and gained 25. Against Eloqua it lost 31 and gained 12. The one platform Marketo takes from is Mautic, the open-source option, where it gained 55 domains and lost 3.

Marketo loses to platforms that are cheaper or already installed, and wins from teams outgrowing a self-hosted tool. That is the profile of a mature product defending its position rather than expanding.

Sales Signals

  • The subdomain names the budget holder. Detections land on demand generation surfaces such as news.xerox.com, events.atlassian.com, webinars.paychex.com, and giving.utexas.edu. The host tells you which team runs campaigns before you make a call.
  • 889 companies above 1,000 employees sit inside the matched set, concentrated in software, IT services, and financial services. That is the enterprise list, and it is addressable by name.
  • Assume Salesforce, qualify for Dynamics. At nineteen to one, CRM integration questions have a default answer for almost every Marketo account.
  • Japan is open territory. Japan ranks fourth with 258 companies. On Eloqua, measured identically, Japan ranks tenth with 30. Marketo has a Japanese base that its closest rival does not.
  • Adobe suite gaps are pipeline. Three quarters of enterprise Marketo sites do not run Adobe's tag manager, which is a live opportunity for both Adobe partners and their competitors.
  • Displacement is one-directional. HubSpot and Salesforce are taking accounts roughly four to one and eight to one. If you sell against Marketo, those are the stories buyers already believe.

How to read these numbers

Every count on this page comes from TechnologyChecker.io detecting Marketo's tracking code on a live public website. That makes it a strong signal, because a company has to have deployed the platform on its own domain for us to see it, and it also means we count deployments rather than contracts. A Marketo customer that runs campaigns entirely through landing pages on a separate domain will not appear here. Counts are also not a like-for-like series over time: the set of domains we crawl turns over every month, with dead sites dropping out and newly found ones added, and our detection signals widen over time. Read the long-run shape as a trend rather than a same-domain comparison.

Is Marketo a CRM system?

No. Marketo is a marketing automation platform that works alongside a CRM rather than replacing one. Our stack data makes the pairing clear: Salesforce appears on 10.06% of Marketo domains against 0.52% for Microsoft Dynamics 365. In practice a Marketo account is almost always a Salesforce account, at a ratio of about nineteen to one.

Is Marketo like Salesforce?

They solve different problems. Salesforce is the system of record for accounts and opportunities; Marketo runs the campaigns that create them. Salesforce also sells a competing marketing platform, Marketing Cloud Account Engagement, which we detect on 49,175 domains against Marketo's 12,901. Marketo is the more enterprise-concentrated of the two at 14.13% above 1,000 employees versus 9.15%.

How many companies use Marketo?

We detect Marketo on 12,901 live domains and matched 6,572 of them to company records for the analysis on TechnologyChecker.io. That count reflects deployments we can verify on public websites rather than licence numbers, so a customer running campaigns only on landing pages hosted elsewhere would not appear in it.

What size companies use Marketo?

Marketo spans the range but skews larger than most of its category. Among matched companies, 45.28% employ between 11 and 200 people, while 14.13% employ more than 1,000 and 3.39% more than 10,000. For comparison, HubSpot reaches 1.69% above 1,000 employees on the same measurement, and Oracle Eloqua reaches 18.39%.

Marketo vs HubSpot: which has more customers?

HubSpot is far larger by website count, at 583,796 domains against Marketo's 12,901, but the two serve different markets. HubSpot's base is 1.69% companies above 1,000 employees; Marketo's is 14.13%. In observed switching since April 2026, Marketo lost 364 domains to HubSpot and gained 98 back, so movement runs roughly four to one.

Which countries use Marketo the most?

The United States leads with 4,083 matched companies, ahead of the United Kingdom at 459 and Australia at 358. Japan is the notable entry in fourth place with 258 companies. Measured the same way on Oracle Eloqua, Japan ranks tenth with 30 companies, so Marketo's Japanese presence is specific to the platform rather than typical of the category.

What industries use Marketo?

Software Development leads at 18.68% of matched companies, followed by IT Services and IT Consulting at 7.36% and Financial Services at 5.49%. Healthcare, advertising, higher education, and real estate each account for between 2% and 4%. The concentration in software is more than double what we measure on any competing platform.

What do users like and dislike about Marketo?

On G2, the most-cited strength is day-to-day usability once programs are built, with 192 mentions, followed by multi-channel automation at 185. The leading complaint is the learning curve, with 176 mentions, and reviewers without technical experience describe needing outside help to get started. Pricing draws 87 mentions as a commercial objection.

How do we detect Marketo on a website?

We look for the tracking code Marketo deploys on public pages and record the exact subdomain where it loads. Because Google Tag Manager sits on 92.48% of Marketo domains, the code is usually injected at runtime rather than written into the page source. Our approach is described in more detail in our guide to technology detection methods.

Is Marketo losing or gaining market share?

Our records show steady growth in detected sites across sixteen years with no year of reversal. Recent switching runs against Marketo on its two largest rivals: over the last 90 days, 363 domains moved to HubSpot and 205 to Salesforce, against 97 and 25 coming the other way. Marketo gained 55 domains from Mautic over the same window and lost 3.

What tools are used alongside Marketo?

Google Tag Manager appears on 92.48% of Marketo domains and Google Analytics on 88.08%. Adobe's tag manager reaches 13.62% and Adobe Analytics 9.37%. Salesforce is the dominant CRM at 10.06%. In conversational tools, Intercom and Drift are level at 2.62% each, reflecting the account-based programs common in Marketo's software-heavy base.
