Companies Using SitePad
Our October 2026 crawl finds SitePad on 4,778 live domains. SitePad is the drag-and-drop website builder Softaculous plugs into hosting control panels such as cPanel and Plesk, and hosts hand it to their customers free or for a few dollars. So this is a count of sites built with a host's bundled builder, and one host dominates it: 1,105 of the 4,699 domains in our analysis use Afrihost's nameservers, and Afrihost offers SitePad as its own Site Builder. Below is the list of companies that use SitePad, with size, country and industry. It includes the International University of East Africa, Thekwini College, Bulawayo Polytechnic and the Madagascan insurer ARO.
SitePad sits 6th in Static Site Generators with 0.36% of the category, filed there because it began as a builder that publishes plain HTML pages. Its users aren't developers: 77.44% of matched companies have 10 or fewer staff, and South Africa, Afrihost's home market, has 1,113 of the 3,288 companies we matched. When we fetched 4,663 SitePad domains in October, 3,930 served a SitePad page, and 88 still showed the default title "My Website".

SitePad Usage Statistics
SitePad reads 4,091 domains in June 2026, 4,425 in July, 4,517 in August, 4,795 in September and 4,778 in October. Read the 687-domain rise with care. The set of domains we crawl turns over every month, with dead sites dropping out and newly found ones added, and our detection widened over the same months, so it isn't all new sites. Since 16 March 2026, 821 domains have dropped SitePad on at least one hostname, and 46 of those still ran it on another in October.

Which Countries Use SitePad the Most?
Which countries use SitePad the most? South Africa, with 1,113 matched companies, a third of the 3,288 we matched, then the United States (364), India (242), Canada (119), Brazil (112) and the United Kingdom (109). The South African lead is one host's doing: Afrihost includes SitePad free with Linux shared hosting, and 1,105 SitePad domains use its nameservers. Indonesia (88) has its own host cluster, with 94 domains on IDwebhost's nameservers.
Share of the 3,288 SitePad domains we matched to a company record — 68.8% of the 4,778 we detect. Top 15 countries shown, so these do not sum to 100%. Domains with no matching company record are not represented here and skew small and independent.
SitePad Market Share Among Static Site Generators
What is SitePad's market share? 0.36% of Static Site Generators, 6th in the category, based on our live crawl at TechnologyChecker.io. It's not a like-for-like table. The leaders are developer frameworks such as Astro (332,356 domains in the comparison table) and Hugo (30,613), while SitePad is a point-and-click builder that hosts bundle with shared hosting. Its 4,778 domains put it ahead of VitePress (1,970) and Publii (1,013).
Top Competitors by Market Share
SitePad Customers by Company Size & Age
What size companies use SitePad? Very small ones. 77.44% of matched companies with a known size have 1 to 10 employees and 16.81% have 11 to 50, so 94.25% have 50 or fewer. Only 17 have more than 500 staff. Several of the larger names on our list are colleges and universities, such as the International University of East Africa and Bulawayo Polytechnic, which each list 501 to 1,000 staff.
Company Size Distribution
Company Age (Founded Decade)
SitePad's companies are young. 50.68% of matched companies with a founding year date from the 2010s and 26.19% from the 2020s, so 76.87% were founded since 2010. Only 3.35% predate 1990. That fits a builder that arrives with a first hosting account. Bulawayo Polytechnic, founded in 1921, is the oldest name on our list.
What Industries Use SitePad the Most?
IT Services and IT Consulting leads at 6.52%, then Business Consulting and Services (5.99%), Construction (3.96%), Advertising Services (2.38%) and Accounting (2.35%), based on our enriched company data. The top ten labels cover only 29.93%, so no vertical owns SitePad. Retail is 1.96%: these are mostly brochure sites for service firms.
Schools and universities using SitePad include the International University of East Africa in Uganda, Thekwini College in Durban, Bulawayo Polytechnic and Universitas Kader Bangsa in Indonesia. South African professional firms on SitePad include the law firm Nelson Borman & Partners and the M&A adviser Bridge Capital. Industrial companies using SitePad include Nycil, a Nigerian resin maker, and the Indonesian plastics moulder Nissen Chemitec.
SitePad Alternatives & Competitors
The comparison table puts SitePad beside developer tools, and its users rarely cross over: no SitePad domain runs Astro today, and only 7 were ever seen with both. SitePad's real rivals are other builders a host or a subscription hands out, such as Sitejet, which some hosts offer beside SitePad in the same control panel, and Hostinger Website Builder. Inside cPanel, the choice is often SitePad or WordPress.
SitePad Customer Migration
Tech Stack of SitePad-Powered Websites
These percentages are of the 4,699 live SitePad domains in our analysis. WordPress shows on 71.65% because SitePad 5 is laid out like WordPress, with uploads under /sitepad-data/ and an API at /sp-json/, so WordPress's signals match it. Google Analytics runs on 21.28% and Cloudflare on 3.92%. Hosting rows are small (FastComet 1.17%, GoDaddy 1.09%, Plesk 0.53%) because most shared hosts leave no trace in the page; Afrihost shows up in DNS, not in the stack.

Expert Analysis: SitePad Growth Trends & Key Signals for Sales Teams in 2026

I spent years on crawling infrastructure before we started TechnologyChecker, and bundled software is where a domain count most needs explaining. SitePad is a clean case. Our October 2026 crawl finds it on 4,778 live domains, 6th in Static Site Generators. A domain counts when its homepage carries SitePad's generator tag. That signal is hard to fake and easy to check: I fetched 4,663 of the 4,699 domains in our analysis in mid-October, and 3,930 served a SitePad page. The count measures something narrower than adoption: hardly anyone shops for SitePad, because their host gives it to them.
A builder that comes with the hosting
Softaculous sells SitePad to hosts by the server, $5 a month or $55 a year for unlimited sites, according to its pricing page, and it plugs into cPanel, Plesk, DirectAdmin and other panels. Hosts can rebrand it. So the decision is usually the host's, and the site owner clicks "Site Builder" in a control panel. One host stands out. 1,105 SitePad domains (23.5% of 4,699) use Afrihost's nameservers, and 1,135 sit on Afrihost's DNS or servers. Afrihost's website builder page offers it free with Linux shared hosting, and its help centre calls it "Afrihost Site Builder" in cPanel. 51 of the 53 sites in our set titled "Built with SiteBuilder" are on Afrihost. GreenGeeks is a distant second by nameserver with 158 domains, and IDwebhost in Indonesia has 94.
Sales signal: to reach SitePad users at scale, sell to their hosts. A partnership with one South African host touches about a quarter of this list.
Placeholders and dead sites
Free builders collect half-finished sites. Of the 3,930 homepages serving SitePad, 88 still carry the default title "My Website" and 218 show three or more blocks of the theme's lorem ipsum text. Another 273 kept the default "Built with SitePad" tagline under a real business name. Outside the working sites, 140 domains no longer resolved, 38 showed a host's "Account Suspended" or "Website Inactive" page, and 328 timed out. Failed fetches don't remove a domain from our count until a later crawl confirms it's gone, the same rule we apply to every technology.
Sales signal: filter out the default titles before outreach. A business still showing lorem ipsum is a warm lead for a web designer, not for a SaaS upsell.
Reading the chart
The chart reads 4,091 domains in June, 4,425 in July, 4,517 in August, 4,795 in September and 4,778 in October. I wouldn't call the 687-domain rise growth. Dead domains drop out each month and newly found ones come in, and our detection widened over the same months. Since we began tracking SitePad on 16 March 2026, 821 domains have dropped it on at least one hostname; 46 of those still ran it on another in October.
"SitePad's numbers are a hosting statistic. A quarter of its sites sit with one South African host, and most of its owners found it in their host's control panel, not on sitepad.com." - Mehmet Suleyman, CEO & Co-founder at TechnologyChecker.io
Sales signal: treat SitePad as a stable pool of about 4,700 small sites that moves with its hosts' sign-ups, not with anything SitePad markets itself.
Who the customers are
77.44% of matched companies with a known size have 1 to 10 employees and 16.81% have 11 to 50. Half (50.68%) were founded in the 2010s and 26.19% in the 2020s. The industry spread is wide: IT services (6.52%), business consulting (5.99%), construction (3.96%), advertising (2.38%) and accounting (2.35%) lead, and the top ten labels cover only 29.93%. Retail is 1.96%. Most are brochure sites for service firms. Several of the larger names are colleges: the International University of East Africa, Thekwini College, Bulawayo Polytechnic and Universitas Kader Bangsa. Softaculous's own site, softaculous.com, runs on SitePad 5 too; we left it off the customer list.
Sales signal: the owner is the buyer, and price decides. Anything sold to these firms should arrive through their host or cost less than the hosting does.
Where they are
South Africa has 1,113 of the 3,288 matched companies, a third. The United States follows with 364, then India (242), Canada (119), Brazil (112) and the United Kingdom (109). The rest of Africa shows up too, with Kenya (36) in the top 15 and named users in Uganda, Zimbabwe, Nigeria and Madagascar. Brazil, Mexico (79), Colombia (55) and Chile (52) add 298 Latin American companies between them.
Sales signal: for African and Latin American small-business campaigns, SitePad domains are a ready list of firms that already pay for hosting and a domain of their own.
Two generations of SitePad
Not every SitePad site is the same product. 2,965 of the 3,930 SitePad homepages we fetched run SitePad 5, a PHP engine laid out like WordPress: 2,958 keep uploads under /sitepad-data/, 2,826 link an API under /sp-json/, and that API answers with WordPress-style errors when you call it. The other 965 are static HTML exports from the older builder, the publish-static-pages model SitePad still advertises and the reason it sits in our Static Site Generators category. The WordPress-like layout explains the stack table, where WordPress shows on 71.65% of SitePad domains. Google Analytics runs on 21.28% and Cloudflare on 3.92%.
"Seven in ten SitePad domains also register as WordPress, because SitePad 5 borrows WordPress's file layout. Count that overlap as one product on the server." - Mehmet Suleyman, CEO & Co-founder at TechnologyChecker.io
Sales signal: the 965 static exports are likely the oldest builds on this list and the likeliest to be redone, which makes them a fair target for web designers and for hosts' managed WordPress plans.
What it costs
For site owners, SitePad's pricing page lists a Free plan (15 themes, one site, three pages) and paid end-user plans at $12, $24 and $36 a year for one, three and ten sites. If a licence lapses, the site stays up but can't be edited. Plesk's former extension page says SitePad was released in February 2017 by Softaculous Ltd, founded in 2009.
Sales signal: at $12 a year SitePad isn't a budget line anyone defends. Its users switch builders when they redesign, not when a renewal comes round.
Key takeaways
1. 4,778 live domains, 6th in Static Site Generators, but a hosting-bundled builder, not a developer tool.
2. Afrihost's nameservers sit on 1,105 of 4,699 analysed domains, and South Africa has a third of matched companies.
3. 3,930 of 4,663 fetched homepages served SitePad; 88 kept the default "My Website" title.
4. 77.44% of matched companies have 10 or fewer staff.
5. WordPress shows on 71.65% because SitePad 5 is laid out like WordPress.

Frequently Asked Questions
Who uses SitePad?
Small businesses, schools and professional firms whose host gave them a free builder. Our October 2026 crawl finds SitePad on 4,778 live domains; 77.44% of matched companies have 10 or fewer staff and a third are South African. Named users include the International University of East Africa, Thekwini College, Bulawayo Polytechnic, the insurer ARO and the law firm Nelson Borman & Partners.
How many customers does SitePad have?
Our October 2026 crawl finds SitePad on 4,778 live domains, 3,288 matched to a company. Not all are working sites: of 4,663 we fetched in October, 3,930 served a SitePad page, 140 no longer resolved and 88 still showed the default "My Website" title. Since March 2026, 821 domains have dropped SitePad on at least one hostname.
What is SitePad's market share?
0.36% of Static Site Generators, 6th in the category, on 4,778 domains in our October 2026 crawl. That table is led by developer frameworks such as Next.js, Astro (332,356 domains in our comparison table) and Hugo (30,613). SitePad is a drag-and-drop builder that hosts bundle with shared hosting, so its rank there says little about its real rivals.
What are the best alternatives to SitePad?
The closer alternatives are other builders that come with hosting or a subscription: Hostinger Website Builder, Wix, Sitejet where your host offers it, or WordPress with a page builder. In our Static Site Generators table SitePad sits beside Astro, Hugo, VitePress and Publii, which are developer or desktop tools. No SitePad domain runs Astro today, and only 7 ever ran both.
Which countries use SitePad the most?
South Africa, with 1,113 matched companies, a third of the 3,288 we matched. The United States (364), India (242), Canada (119), Brazil (112) and the United Kingdom (109) follow. The South African lead comes from one host: Afrihost includes SitePad free with Linux shared hosting, and 1,105 SitePad domains use Afrihost's nameservers, based on TechnologyChecker.io data.
What size companies use SitePad?
Very small ones. 77.44% of matched companies with a known size have 1 to 10 employees and 16.81% have 11 to 50, so 94.25% have 50 or fewer. Only 17 have more than 500 staff. Several of the bigger names are colleges and universities, such as the International University of East Africa and Bulawayo Polytechnic, which each list 501 to 1,000 staff.
How old are companies that use SitePad?
Young. Among matched companies with a founding year, 50.68% date from the 2010s and 26.19% from the 2020s, so 76.87% were founded since 2010. Only 3.35% predate 1990, which fits a builder that usually arrives with a first hosting account. The oldest name on our list is Bulawayo Polytechnic in Zimbabwe, founded in 1921.
What is the ideal customer profile for SitePad?
The ideal SitePad customer is: Company Size: 1-10 employees, Location: South Africa, then US and India, Industry: IT services, consulting and construction, Founded: 2010-2019, Hosting: Shared cPanel hosting, often Afrihost — based on our analysis of 3,288 enriched companies at TechnologyChecker.io.
Is there a 100% free website builder?
SitePad comes close. Its pricing page lists a free plan with 15 themes, one site and three pages, and paid plans from $12 a year. Many hosts include the full builder at no extra cost: Afrihost, for example, offers its SitePad-based Site Builder free with Linux shared hosting. You still pay for the hosting and the domain.
Is SitePad free?
Partly. SitePad's pricing page lists a free plan for one site with three pages and 15 themes, and a one-month trial licence for anyone who installs it. Most people get it through their host instead: hosts buy a server licence and offer the builder to every account, often free. If an end-user licence expires, the site keeps working but can't be edited.
How much does SitePad cost?
SitePad's pricing page lists end-user plans at $12 a year for one site, $24 for three and $36 for ten, plus the free plan. Hosts pay per server instead: $5 a month or $55 a year, covering unlimited sites on that server. Pricing for custom control panels is quoted by email. Checked on sitepad.com on 15 October 2026.
Is SitePad built on WordPress?
SitePad 5 looks that way from outside. Nearly all of the 2,965 SitePad 5 homepages we fetched keep uploads under /sitepad-data/ and link an API at /sp-json/, mirroring WordPress's wp-content and wp-json, and the API returns WordPress-style errors. That's why 71.65% of SitePad domains also register as WordPress in our crawl. Older SitePad sites are static HTML exports.
Who makes SitePad?
