Companies Using HostGator

I analysed HostGator against our September 2026 crawl, and the first thing to settle is what the number measures. We read HostGator from each domain's DNS start-of-authority record, the entry that names who runs the zone. On that basis 285,959 domains have their DNS at HostGator, and 173,995 of them match a company record. That is a count of HostGator accounts, which is not quite the same as a count of websites HostGator serves, so we checked the difference directly.

What a DNS record can and cannot tell you

We took 150 random HostGator domains and queried live DNS and the website for each one. 139 still had HostGator DNS; 7 had moved since our crawl and 4 returned nothing. 133 (88.7%) served their website from HostGator's network, the Unified Layer and hostgator.com.br servers Newfold runs. 109 were live sites. Eleven showed a placeholder such as "Bem-vindo a HostGator", 8 were nearly empty and 22 did not load at all.

The misses are informative. Seven kept HostGator DNS while serving the site from Shopify, Duda or Lovable, and the named list has examples: haldiram.com resolves at HostGator and serves its site from Lovable. So the summary is that about 9 in 10 of these domains are hosted by HostGator and about 7 in 10 are working sites on HostGator's servers (102 of 150).

Sales signal: if you sell to website owners, filter this list on live sites before outreach. Roughly one domain in five in our sample was a placeholder or did not load.

Two markets under one brand

The country table is the most important thing on this page. 79,166 matched companies are in Brazil, against 50,845 in the United States, and 96,396 live domains end in .br. HostGator Brasil sells under the same name and runs its own nameservers, ns and nspro hosts under hostgator.com.br, and our rule reads both.

That changes how to read the rank. HostGator is 8th in Web Hosting at 2.8%, and GoDaddy's 4,571,275 domains are 16 times its count. Rank the same hosts on companies based in Brazil and HostGator is second: Hostinger 99,176, HostGator 79,166, GoDaddy 16,511. Hostinger's lead is partly method, because its detection also counts email-only and parked domains.

The stack is consistent with that. WhatsApp Business Chat buttons appear on 13.56% of live HostGator domains and Joinchat, a WordPress plugin for WhatsApp, on 3.13%.

Sales signal: split the list by country before you write a single email. The Brazilian half needs Portuguese copy and WhatsApp as a channel.

Who the customers are

72.14% of matched companies with a known size employ 1 to 10 people and 20.09% employ 11 to 50. There are still 542 companies above 1,000 employees, and names like Perbras, Vitamedic and Haif Company show that larger firms in Brazil and the Gulf keep their corporate sites on HostGator. The founding years lean to the 2010s (46.08%), and no industry passes 7%: Retail leads at 6.27%, then Construction at 4.1%.

Sales signal: treat industry as a weak filter and geography plus size as strong ones. Health providers, accountants and law firms add up to 8.22% of matched companies, a usable local-services segment.

Where leavers go

11,203 domains have dropped HostGator since we began tracking in March 2026. 1,420 of them now run Hostinger, and the tests hold up. Hostinger is on 12.65% of leavers and 0.45% of stayers, 28 times over-represented; all 30 leavers we sampled use Hostinger DNS and 25 serve their site from Hostinger's servers. About two in five of those movers are .br domains, more than Brazil's third of the base.

Three smaller moves passed the same tests: Bluehost 83, SiteGround 68 and DreamHost 54. The Bluehost row is a move inside Newfold: 13 of the 30 we checked still sit on Newfold servers.

Two larger rows are missing on purpose. 4,714 leavers now show Cloudflare, but pointing DNS at Cloudflare hides the host. 725 moved DNS to GoDaddy, and only 4 of 30 sampled host their website there. The reverse flow from Hostinger, 423 domains, fails a coexistence test: 75.6% still show both, because Hostinger's rule also reads email records. Namecheap (30), IONOS (37) and Kinsta (24) were too small to publish.

Sales signal: Hostinger is the competitor to watch for anyone selling migrations or retention, above all in Brazil. The 557 moves in the last 30 days show the flow is current.

The stack on a shared host

WordPress runs on 59.1% of live HostGator domains, Elementor on 27.08% and Yoast SEO on 20.96%. Apache on 66.18% reflects HostGator's servers. Email splits three ways: Titan Email, which HostGator sells as its professional email, on 10.42%, Google Workspace on 9.83% and Microsoft 365 on 5.88%.

Sales signal: Google Workspace and Microsoft 365 each reach only a minority of these domains, so business email is an open question for most of the base. That is room for anyone selling email suites or migrations off bundled mail.

What G2 reviewers say

HostGator scores 3.6 out of 5 across 258 G2 reviews. Reviewers like how easy it is to navigate and set up, and the complaints are about the account: email, billing, support, downtime and lost sites. The mention counts are small, 5 at most, so I would not weight them. They are at least consistent with a steady flow of leavers to Hostinger, though our data cannot say why any one domain moved.
