Companies Using DreamHost

I analysed DreamHost against our September 2026 crawl, starting with what the number measures. We identify DreamHost from a domain's DNS: its nameserver and start-of-authority records, or mail records that point at dreamhost.com. On that basis 148,369 domains have their DNS at DreamHost, and 81,028 of them match a company record. That counts DreamHost accounts. It isn't quite a count of websites DreamHost serves, so we measured the gap. For context on who runs DNS across the web, see our DNS statistics for 2026.

What a nameserver record tells you, and what it doesn't

We took 150 random DreamHost domains and queried live DNS and the website for each. 135 had DreamHost nameservers only, 11 had DreamHost nameservers and mail, and just 3 (2%) matched on mail records alone; one no longer used DreamHost at all. 104 (69.3%) served their website from DreamHost's network. 43 kept DreamHost DNS and served the site from somewhere else: Cloudflare (15), Squarespace (7), Amazon (7), Google Cloud (3) and a few CDNs.

138 (92%) were live sites, and 99 were live sites on DreamHost's own servers. Only one showed DreamHost's "Site not found" placeholder. The same check on HostGator found 88.7% of websites on HostGator's network but only 109 live sites in 150. DreamHost's customers are more likely to keep the DNS and put the website elsewhere, and more likely to have a working site.

Sales signal: if you sell to website owners, this list is clean, with 92% of sampled domains running a working site. If you sell hosting or migrations, check where the website resolves first, because about three in ten already serve it from another network.

A settled base of small, older businesses

The chart reads 129,972 domains in June, 143,934 in July, 144,262 in August and 148,369 in September. The June to July step reflects changes on our side, the domains we cover and the signals we read. Past that the line is flat, and 69% of today's live domains were first seen in May or June, against 4.3% in August or September.

75.35% of matched companies with a known size employ 1 to 10 people and 18.63% employ 11 to 50. The founding years lean older than HostGator's: 22.61% of DreamHost's dated companies were founded in the 2000s and 20.05% before 2000, against 19.19% and 17.27% on HostGator.

The larger names look different. There are 236 companies above 1,000 employees, and many use DreamHost only for DNS. When we checked on 26 September 2026, Joby Aviation's and d.light's websites were served from Amazon, Aldevron's from Fastly and Best Buddies International's from CDN77, all behind DreamHost nameservers.

Sales signal: at the enterprise end of this list, DreamHost is often the DNS provider rather than the host. That's a lead for managed DNS and security vendors more than for hosting migrations.

Non-profits, agencies and a Latin American second market

No industry passes 4%. Advertising Services leads at 3.81%, and Non-profit Organizations come second at 3.17%, a row that doesn't reach the top ten on our HostGator, SiteGround or Hostinger profiles. The named list backs it up with Best Buddies International, churches such as Grace Church in Wichita Falls and Aberdeen First Baptist, and public bodies such as Buncombe County Schools. For years DreamHost gave US 501(c)(3) non-profits free shared hosting, which helps explain the row. Agencies are the other cluster: Advertising Services, IT Services, Software Development and Design Services add up to 11.48%.

The United States holds 45,477 of the 81,028 matched companies. Canada (4,843) is next, but Latin America is the bigger second market: Brazil (3,991), Mexico (1,836), Chile (827), Argentina (676) and Colombia (572) add up to 7,902.

Sales signal: treat industry as a weak filter, except for non-profits and agencies. Split the Latin American companies out before outreach; they need Spanish or Portuguese copy.

Where domains come from, and where they go

4,099 domains have dropped DreamHost since we began tracking in March 2026. Coming the other way, one move passes every test we apply: 55 domains dropped HostGator and now run DreamHost, 48 of them in the last 90 days. Only 3 of the 75 domains that ever showed both hosts still show both, the reverse flow is 14, and HostGator's own profile counts the same move at 54.

Two bigger flows go out, and neither makes the table. 317 domains that dropped DreamHost now show GoDaddy, but 197 went the other way and half the domains that ever showed both still do. 299 now show Hostinger, 123 of them in the last 30 days, and 24 of the 30 we sampled use Hostinger nameservers. That one fails our coexistence test too: 49% of domains that ever showed both hosts still show both. Of 25 such domains we checked, 13 keep DreamHost DNS and serve the website from Hostinger. That's two jobs split across two providers. 2,279 domains that left now show Cloudflare, but moving DNS there hides the host rather than replacing it.

Sales signal: HostGator customers moving to DreamHost are a small, current flow, with 27 moves in the last 30 days. For retention and migration vendors, the domains that already split DNS and website between DreamHost and Hostinger are the ones to watch.

The stack: WordPress, plus DreamHost's own mail and builder

WordPress runs on 61.14% of the 150,113 live DreamHost domains, with Elementor on 15%, Divi on 5.65% and Yoast SEO on 16.04%. Apache on 73.57% describes DreamHost's shared servers. Two rows trace back to DreamHost's own services. MailChannels appears on 36.35%, and DreamHost's help centre says a DreamHost mailbox with spam filtering on has its MX records at mx1.mailchannels.net and mx2.mailchannels.net. So this is mostly DreamHost email, ahead of Google Workspace (20.35%) and Microsoft 365 (6.58%). BoldGrid, on 3.5%, was DreamHost's WP Website Builder. DreamHost no longer offers it for new WordPress installs, so it marks sites built some time ago.

Sales signal: about four in five of these domains show no Google Workspace, and more of them run DreamHost's filtered mail than Google Workspace or Microsoft 365. That's room for anyone selling business email or moves off bundled mail.

DreamHost scores 4.0 out of 5 from 155 G2 reviews. Support dominates both sides: it's the top praise, with 11 mentions for customer support and 9 for customer service, and it also shows up among the complaints, with 2 mentions of poor support next to 2 about slow loading. Those counts are too small to weigh, and our data can't say why any single domain moved.

Sales signal: support is what DreamHost's reviewers talk about, so a competitor pitching them should lead with its own support rather than with price.
