Companies Using Mimecast

Our crawl finds 69,108 domains routing mail through Mimecast, which is 9.62% of the email security market and third place behind Microsoft Defender (37.3%) and Jellyfish (13.5%). Detection reads the MX record, so a domain here has genuinely pointed its mail at Mimecast rather than merely bought a licence.

We matched 57,923 of those domains to company records, an 83.8% match rate. That is the highest enrichment rate of any profile on this site, and it is a direct consequence of who buys this product: real, registered, mostly mid-sized businesses in regulated industries.

The customer list reads accordingly. HP, CVS Health, Sanofi, Carrefour, Schneider Electric, Flipkart and Emirates all route mail through it. The United Kingdom accounts for 25.74% of enriched domains, far above its weight in any other technology we track.

Mimecast Usage Statistics

Mimecast enters our detection history in September 2011 on 100 domains, which is when our long-run feed began covering it rather than when the company started, since Mimecast was founded in 2003. Growth is steady rather than explosive: 4,196 domains by January 2016, 13,627 by January 2019, 27,090 by January 2022 and 40,874 by April 2025. That is the shape of enterprise software sold by a sales team. The mild decline through mid-2025 is our archive feed narrowing its own coverage, visible because total domains fall in step with active ones, and the gap before 2026 is where our measurement system changed.

List of Companies Using Mimecast

Our verified list of companies using Mimecast on TechnologyChecker.io covers 57,923 domains matched to company records, out of 69,108 where we detect Mimecast mail records. That 83.8% match rate is the highest on this site. Detection is a DNS fact rather than a page render, and the buyer is a real registered business, so almost every domain resolves to a company.

There are 69,108 companies and websites using Mimecast, sign up to download the entire Mimecast dataset.

Organisations routing mail through Mimecast include HP, CVS Health, Sanofi, Carrefour, Schneider Electric, Genpact, Flipkart, Ambev and Emirates. Detection is per domain and large groups run many domains, so a listing means that particular domain's inbound mail passes through Mimecast rather than the entire group standardising on it.

Which Countries Use Mimecast the Most?

Which countries use Mimecast the most? The United States leads on 51.19%, but the number that stands out is the United Kingdom at 25.74%. Roughly one Mimecast domain in four is British, which is several times the UK's share in almost any other technology we track. Mimecast was founded in London in 2003 and the home-market concentration has survived a US listing and two decades of expansion. Australia follows on 5.86%.

Mimecast Market Share Among Email Security

What is Mimecast's market share? It holds 9.62% of the email security market we track and ranks #3 of 12, behind Microsoft Defender (37.3%) and Jellyfish (13.5%), just ahead of MailChannels (9.17%), Barracuda (8.96%) and Proofpoint (7.37%). The category is small in domain terms, 718,428 in total, because only organisations that deliberately place a gateway in front of their mail appear in it at all.

Mimecast Customers by Company Size & Age

Mimecast has the least small-business-heavy customer profile in this wave. Only 25.53% of domains belong to companies with ten staff or fewer, against 28.84% at 11 to 50, 23% at 51 to 200 and 10.52% at 201 to 500. For comparison, Google Workspace sits at 70.51% in the smallest band. A mail security gateway is bought by organisations large enough to have someone accountable for email risk, and the distribution shows it.

What Industries Use Mimecast the Most?

Financial Services leads at 6.1%, followed by Construction (4.89%), Insurance (4.6%) and Law Practice (4.39%). Finance, insurance and legal in the top four is a regulated-industry signature: these are the sectors where an intercepted invoice or a leaked client file carries a statutory penalty, and where email archiving is a compliance requirement rather than a convenience.

Insurance2,454 (4.6%)
Law Practice2,343 (4.39%)
Real Estate1,775 (3.33%)
Hospitals and Health Care1,704 (3.19%)

The age data points the same way. 16.85% of Mimecast customers were founded before 1960, a share matched by almost nothing else we profile. Old, regulated, document-heavy businesses are the core of this base, and they are also the least likely to rip out a working gateway. That inertia is Mimecast's best asset and its most obvious ceiling.

Mimecast Alternatives & Competitors

The threat is not the other gateways. Microsoft Defender leads the category on 37.3% because it is bundled into a licence most of these organisations already hold, while Mimecast (9.62%), Barracuda (8.96%) and Proofpoint (7.37%) split the specialist tier between them. Our switching data confirms the shape: departing Mimecast domains land on Microsoft far more often than on any competing gateway.

Mimecast Customer Migration

Mail routing is exclusive, since a domain publishes one set of MX records, so these are real replacements. The dominant flow is Mimecast to Microsoft 365 direct: 940 domains out against 502 back, meaning the gateway was removed and mail now goes straight to Microsoft. Against specialist rivals the picture is mixed: Proofpoint took 126 and returned 17, while Barracuda sent 65 and took back 23, so Mimecast wins that exchange.

Tech Stack of Mimecast-Powered Websites

Based on a 100,000-domain sample, Mimecast domains run Google Tag Manager (70.7%) and Google Analytics (68.16%) at unusually high rates, alongside Cloudflare (46.64%) and WordPress (46.07%). Microsoft 365 appears on only 3.24%, which looks surprising until you remember the mechanism: when Mimecast is in front, the MX record points at Mimecast and not at Microsoft, so the two are mutually exclusive in our detection by design.

Expert Analysis: Mimecast Growth Trends & Key Signals for Sales Teams in 2026

Mehmet Suleyman
Mehmet SuleymanCEO & Co-founder, TechnologyChecker

Mimecast produced the cleanest dataset in this batch of profiles, and the clearest strategic problem.

Start with the data quality, because it shapes everything that follows. We matched 83.8% of Mimecast domains to company records, which is the highest enrichment rate of any technology profile on this site. Google Workspace manages 72.9%, Fastly 53.8%, and a typical front-end library sits in the forties. That gap is not luck. It is the combination of a DNS-based detection, which cannot be blocked or missed by a failed page render, and a product that only real registered businesses buy.

The competitive picture is not the category table

Read the market share list and you see a specialist tier: Mimecast on 9.62%, Barracuda on 8.96%, Proofpoint on 7.37%, all clustered together, with Microsoft Defender out in front on 37.3%. The natural story is that these three fight each other for the segment Microsoft does not take.

Our switching data says otherwise. 940 domains dropped Mimecast and now point their mail directly at Microsoft 365, against 502 arriving from the same place. Compare that with the specialist exchanges: Proofpoint took 126 and gave back 17, Barracuda sent 65 and took 23, Sophos took 30 and returned seven. The competitor flows are two orders of magnitude smaller than the Microsoft flow.

Mimecast is not primarily losing to Proofpoint or Barracuda. It is losing to the decision to stop buying a gateway at all, because one is already included in a licence the customer holds.

That is a bundling problem, not a product problem, and it is the same pattern we found on the Google Workspace profile: Microsoft absorbing an adjacent category by including it. A specialist vendor can win every feature comparison against Defender and still lose the renewal, because the buyer is not comparing features. They are comparing a line item against zero.

One encouraging line runs the other way. Mimecast wins its exchange with Barracuda, gaining 65 domains and losing 23, roughly three to one. Within the specialist tier, Mimecast is taking share. The tier itself is what is under pressure.

Why the detection is unusually trustworthy

A point worth making because it changes how much weight these numbers carry. Mimecast is detected from a domain's MX records, which are published, unambiguous and load-bearing. If the record points at Mimecast, mail genuinely flows through Mimecast. There is no script to block, no consent banner to hide behind, no rendering to fail.

It also produces a structural quirk worth understanding before misreading the stack section. Microsoft 365 appears on only 3.24% of Mimecast domains. That looks impossible for a product whose entire deployment model is sitting in front of a Microsoft mailbox, until you remember what a gateway does: it receives mail first, so the MX record names the gateway and not the mailbox behind it. Mimecast and Microsoft 365 are mutually exclusive in our detection by construction. Anyone reading that 3.24% as evidence that Mimecast customers avoid Microsoft would have it exactly backwards.

A British company that stayed British

The United Kingdom accounts for 25.74% of enriched Mimecast domains. One customer in four. For nearly every other technology in our index the UK sits in single digits, and the United States takes somewhere between forty and ninety percent.

Mimecast was founded in London in 2003. It listed on Nasdaq, moved its centre of gravity to Boston, was taken private in 2022, and the home-market concentration survived all of it. That is a useful reminder that technographic footprints have long memories: where a company sold in its first decade still shows up in the data two decades later.

The customer that makes this segment valuable

This is the least small-business-heavy profile in the wave. Only 25.53% of domains belong to companies with ten staff or fewer, against 70.51% for Google Workspace. The mass sits in the middle: 28.84% at 11 to 50 employees, 23% at 51 to 200, 10.52% at 201 to 500.

The industry mix is a regulated-sector signature. Financial services 6.1%, construction 4.89%, insurance 4.6%, law practice 4.39%. These are organisations where an intercepted invoice carries a statutory penalty and where mail archiving is a legal obligation rather than a nice-to-have. And they are old: 16.85% were founded before 1960, a figure matched by almost nothing else we profile.

Old, regulated and mid-sized is the most defensible customer base in software, right up until the moment the thing they are buying gets bundled into something they already own.

For anyone selling into this list, the segment is unusually actionable: 57,923 identified companies, concentrated in finance, insurance and legal, weighted toward the UK and US, mostly between 11 and 500 staff. We publish it at TechnologyChecker.io with the enrichment attached precisely because a DNS-detected segment of this quality is rare.

My summary: Mimecast holds a strong position in a shrinking structural category. The data behind this page is the best we have on the site, the customer base is exactly the kind that does not churn casually, and the single largest movement in it is customers deciding they no longer need to buy this class of product separately at all.

What would change my reading

Two things. The first is the direction of the Microsoft flow. We are watching a few months of churn, and 940 domains moving to Microsoft 365 against 502 returning is a clear ratio but a small sample against 69,108 active domains. If that ratio holds through a full year of observation, it is a structural trend. If it narrows, it was a burst of renewals landing together.

The second is whether the specialist tier consolidates. Mimecast, Barracuda and Proofpoint hold 25.95% of the category between them and are close enough in size that any two combining would immediately outrank Jellyfish and threaten Microsoft's lead among organisations that still want a dedicated gateway. Our data already shows Mimecast winning share from Barracuda three to one, which is the kind of asymmetry that usually precedes consolidation rather than follows it.

Frequently Asked Questions

Who uses Mimecast?

Mimecast is used by 69,108 companies worldwide, including TP group, HP, Genpact Ltd., based on our analysis of 29.6M crawled domains at TechnologyChecker.io. It's particularly popular in the Financial Services industry (6.1% of customers).

How many customers does Mimecast have?

Mimecast has 69,108 active customers detected through our full-sweep crawl of 29.9M live business domains. We enriched 57,923 of these with LinkedIn company data on TechnologyChecker.io to generate detailed insights. An additional 1,437 sites that previously used Mimecast are also tracked.

What is Mimecast's market share?

Mimecast holds 9.62% of the Email Security market, ranking #3 in the category — based on our analysis of 29.6M domains and 40K+ technologies at TechnologyChecker.io.

What are the best alternatives to Mimecast?

The top alternatives to Mimecast include Microsoft Defender (37.3% market share), Jellyfish (13.5% market share), MailChannels (9.17% market share), Barracuda (8.96% market share) — based on our market share data across 29.6M crawled domains.

Which countries use Mimecast the most?

United States leads with 29,182 Mimecast customers, followed by United Kingdom (14,675), Australia (3,340), Canada (1,489), Germany (1,201), based on our enriched company data at TechnologyChecker.io.

What size companies use Mimecast?

The most common company size is 1-10 employees, representing 25.53% of Mimecast customers, based on our analysis of 57,923 enriched companies. This is followed by 11-50 employees (28.84%) and 51-200 employees (23%).

How old are companies that use Mimecast?

The majority of Mimecast customers were founded in the 2000s (18.75%), followed by the 2010s (18.68%), based on our analysis of 57,923 enriched companies. This suggests Mimecast is most popular among established companies.

What is the ideal customer profile for Mimecast?

The ideal Mimecast customer is: Company Size: 11-200 employees, Location: US, UK, Australia, Industry: Finance, insurance, legal, Founded: Pre-2010, Detection: MX record — based on our analysis of 57,923 enriched companies at TechnologyChecker.io.

How many companies use Mimecast?

Our crawl detects Mimecast mail records on 69,108 domains as of August 2026, and we matched 57,923 of them to company records. That 83.8% match rate is the highest of any technology profile on this site, because detection reads DNS rather than page markup and the buyer is almost always a real registered business.

What kind of companies use Mimecast?

Larger and more regulated than most technology we profile. Only 25.53% of domains belong to companies with ten staff or fewer, against 28.84% at 11 to 50 and 23% at 51 to 200. Financial services leads the industry mix on 6.1%, followed by construction 4.89%, insurance 4.6% and law practice 4.39%.

Why is Mimecast so popular in the United Kingdom?

Mimecast was founded in London in 2003, and the home-market concentration has outlasted both a US listing and two decades of international expansion. The United Kingdom accounts for 25.74% of enriched Mimecast domains, several times its share in nearly any other technology we track. The United States still leads overall on 51.19%.

Are companies moving from Mimecast to Microsoft?

That is the main flow we observe. We watched 940 domains drop Mimecast and route mail directly to Microsoft 365, against 502 moving the other way. Because Microsoft Defender is bundled into licences these organisations already hold, the decision is usually about consolidating spend rather than about filtering quality. Because a domain publishes one set of mail records, these are genuine replacements rather than additions.

How does Mimecast compare with Proofpoint and Barracuda?

Mimecast is larger than both, at 9.62% of the category against Barracuda on 8.96% and Proofpoint on 7.37%. The switching data splits though: Proofpoint took 126 domains from Mimecast and returned 17, while Mimecast gained 65 from Barracuda and lost 23 back, so it wins that second exchange comfortably. Both exchanges are small against a base of 69,108 active domains.

How does TechnologyChecker.io detect Mimecast?

We read each domain's MX records and match them against Mimecast's mail servers. That makes the detection a published DNS fact rather than an inference from page content, so it cannot be blocked by a consent banner or missed because a page failed to render, and it works on domains that serve no website.

Why do so few Mimecast domains also show Microsoft 365?

Because the two are mutually exclusive in our detection by design. A mail security gateway works by receiving mail first, so a domain protected by Mimecast points its MX record at Mimecast rather than at Microsoft. Only 3.24% of Mimecast domains show Microsoft 365 records, and those are usually secondary or transitional configurations.

What big companies use Mimecast?

HP, CVS Health, Sanofi, Carrefour, Schneider Electric, Genpact, Flipkart, Ambev and Emirates all route mail for at least one domain through Mimecast. Detection works per domain and large groups operate many, so a listing shows that domain's inbound mail passes through Mimecast rather than group-wide standardisation on it. The list skews toward finance, pharmaceuticals, retail and aviation, which are all sectors where email compliance carries statutory weight.

Is Mimecast growing?

Steadily rather than sharply, which fits enterprise software sold by a sales team. Our long-run feed records 4,196 domains in January 2016, 13,627 by January 2019, 27,090 by January 2022 and 40,874 by April 2025. The current live crawl puts it at 69,108, though that figure comes from a different measurement system.

How old are the companies that use Mimecast?

Notably old. 16.85% of enriched Mimecast customers were founded before 1960, a share matched by almost nothing else in our index, with a further 18.75% founded in the 2000s. Established, document-heavy organisations in regulated sectors are the core of this base and are the least likely to replace a working gateway.

How many companies have dropped Mimecast?

We have observed 1,437 domains remove Mimecast mail records since our crawler began covering the technology in April 2026. Of those, 940 now point mail directly at Microsoft 365 and 126 moved to Proofpoint. Against 69,108 active domains, that is churn watched over a few months rather than a lifetime total.

Does Mimecast work alongside Microsoft 365?

Yes, and that is the normal deployment. Mimecast sits in front of a Microsoft mailbox, filtering and archiving mail before delivery, so the customer keeps Microsoft for mailboxes while Mimecast handles security. Our detection sees only the MX record, which points at the gateway, so the underlying mailbox platform stays invisible to us.

Can I get a list of companies using Mimecast?

Yes. This page ranks the largest by audience size, and TechnologyChecker.io holds the full set of 69,108 detected domains with company data attached to 57,923 of them. Those enriched rows carry industry, headcount band, country and founding year, which makes this one of the cleanest technographic segments we publish. Because detection reads DNS, the list also covers domains that serve no public website at all.
