Companies Using MailChannels

MailChannels is best known for relaying web hosts' outbound mail, but the companies that use MailChannels on this page are counted from its other product, Inbound Filtering: a domain counts when its MX record points at mailchannels.net. Most of these owners never picked MailChannels. They host with DreamHost, whose help centre says a domain's MX records read mx1.mailchannels.net and mx2.mailchannels.net when DreamHost's spam filtering is switched on. Our October 2026 crawl finds 67,894 domains routing inbound mail this way, including InMotion Hosting, Epicenter Technologies and the ALMA Observatory.

DreamHost shows on 80.2% of the domains in our stack figures, and when we looked up 1,000 random domains on 15 October 2026, 649 served their website from DreamHost's network and 972 still sent their mail to MailChannels. MailChannels ranks fourth of 12 in Email Security with 8.84%. The owners are tiny: 78.66% of matched companies have 1 to 10 staff, and the United States holds 16,539 of the 35,668 companies we matched.

MailChannels Usage Statistics

MailChannels reads 59,365 domains in June 2026, 65,697 in July, 65,764 in August, 67,767 in September and 67,894 in October. The step into July comes mostly from our side: the set of domains we crawl turns over every month, with dead sites dropping out and new ones added, and our detection widens over time. Since then the line has hardly moved, which is what a count read from mail routing should do. 2,654 domains have dropped MailChannels since our tracking began on 16 March 2026.

List of Companies Using MailChannels

Who uses MailChannels? This list of companies that use MailChannels names 50 of the 35,668 matched companies, ordered by LinkedIn following. Every domain's MX pointed at MailChannels' mx1 or mx2 hosts when we looked on 15 October 2026, and we opened every homepage. We replaced 14 of the first 50 rows: 3 had moved their mail, 7 were matched to the wrong company and 4 had no site we could check. A MailChannels customer here is usually a small firm on its host's plan; InMotion Hosting, whose own domain is on the list, is the channel itself.

MailChannels Customer Migration

Since March 2026, 28 domains moved their MX from MailChannels to Jellyfish, 9 of them in the last 30 days, and none moved the other way. They followed their hosting. 19 of the 28 now use Namecheap's hosting nameservers and 5 use Cloudflare's, so these owners left their old host for Namecheap and the filter changed with it. Only 1 of the 29 domains we have ever seen with both still has both.

Expert Analysis: MailChannels Growth Trends & Key Signals for Sales Teams in 2026

Elif Arslan
Elif ArslanCMO & Co-founder, TechnologyChecker

I knew MailChannels from SPF records, as the relay web hosts use to get their customers' mail delivered. This page counts something else. Our October 2026 crawl finds 67,894 domains whose MX record points at mailchannels.net, which means MailChannels filters their incoming mail. 35,668 of those domains match a company, and most of the owners have no idea MailChannels is involved, because their web host set it up.

Two products, one name

MailChannels sells Outbound Filtering to hosts, an SMTP relay that domains authorise with include:relay.mailchannels.net in SPF, plus an Email API and Inbound Filtering. Its inbound page pitches hosts on one thing: one MX record protects every domain across the fleet. Only that product shows in an MX record, so only that product is on this page. Relay users need a different signal.

Sales signal: if you sell deliverability or relay services, this is the wrong list. These are inbound-filtered mailboxes on shared hosts.

DreamHost's switch

The concentration is the finding. DreamHost's help centre says a domain's MX records read mx1 and mx2.mailchannels.net when spam filtering is enabled, and mx1 and mx2.dreamhost.com when it isn't. DreamHost shows on 80.2% of our MailChannels domains. In a live check of 1,000 random domains on 15 October 2026, 649 served their website from DreamHost's network and 586 used DreamHost's nameservers. The other hosts in that sample were small: InMotion Hosting (14), Web4U in the Czech Republic (12), Miss Hosting in Sweden (10). Every vendor MX we saw used the same two hostnames, mx1 and mx2.mailchannels.net, so no reseller name ever appears in the record.

Sales signal: for most of this list, the decision about mail filtering sits with DreamHost. One partnership there moves more domains than thousands of individual pitches.

A step, then a flat line

The chart reads 59,365 domains in June 2026, 65,697 in July and 67,894 in October. The July step is mostly ours: the domains we crawl turn over every month, dead sites out and new ones in, and our detection widens over time. From July the line is nearly flat, which is what you'd expect from a filter that changes only when a host changes its setup. 972 of the 1,000 domains we sampled still sent mail to MailChannels.

"MailChannels' inbound count is a measure of how many DreamHost customers leave spam filtering switched on. The owners chose a host, not a filter." - Elif Arslan, CMO & Co-founder at TechnologyChecker.io

Sales signal: don't read growth into this line. The addressable base is stable at about 68,000 domains and moves with DreamHost.

Who the owners are

Tiny businesses. 78.66% of matched companies with a known size have 1 to 10 staff and only 104 have more than 1,000. They are older than you might expect, though: 42.57% were founded in the 2010s and 22.51% in the 2000s. The United States holds 16,539 matched companies, 46.37% of the total, and Brazil is a clear second at 2,475, with Latin America at 4,442 once Mexico, Argentina, Chile and Colombia are added. No industry passes 3.57%: advertising, retail, IT services, consulting and construction lead a list that reads like a host's billing system.

Sales signal: the Brazilian and Mexican slice is unusual for an email-security list and worth a Portuguese and Spanish campaign of its own.

Leaving MailChannels means leaving the host

One switching flow passes our tests: 28 domains moved from MailChannels to Jellyfish since March 2026, and none came back. Jellyfish is Namecheap's built-in filter, and 19 of the 28 now use Namecheap's hosting nameservers. Those owners changed host and got a new filter with it. The wider exit numbers say the same. 2,654 domains have dropped MailChannels since 16 March 2026; of the 2,635 that left on every hostname, 201 now point their MX at Microsoft 365 and 92 at Google Workspace.

"Almost nobody in our data left MailChannels for another gateway. They moved hosts, or they moved their mailboxes to Microsoft or Google." - Elif Arslan, CMO & Co-founder at TechnologyChecker.io

Sales signal: the 293 domains now on Microsoft 365 or Google Workspace show the upgrade that does happen: a small firm outgrowing host-provided mail. Hosted mailbox and migration offers fit that moment.

The stack around it

WordPress runs on 60.21% of the domains in our stack sample, Divi on 5.47% and BoldGrid on 3.89%, with Google Analytics on 38.38%. The page titles show how many sites are idle: 635 still carry a version of "Just another WordPress site" and 341 show a WordPress database error. Their mail filtering keeps working regardless, because the MX record doesn't care whether the website does. Microsoft 365 (0.11%) and Google Workspace (0.14%) barely show, since both of our signals read the same MX record MailChannels occupies.

Sales signal: WordPress care, rebuilds and managed hosting fit this base. Check the homepage first; a default title is a cheap way to spot a dormant site.

What MailChannels says, and what we see

MailChannels' pricing page invites readers to join millions of domains, and lists Outbound Filtering from $99.99 a month and a free Email API tier of 3,000 emails a month. We count 67,894 domains on the inbound filter alone. There's no conflict: that line is about email delivery, the relay and API side, which no MX record shows. The same page quotes a DreamHost system administrator on how far MailChannels cut their support tickets.

Sales signal: size MailChannels' host partners from SPF includes if you need the relay footprint; use this page only for inbound.

Key takeaways

1. 67,894 domains filter inbound mail through MailChannels; 8.84% of Email Security, fourth of 12.

2. DreamHost shows on 80.2% of them, and its help centre explains why: spam filtering on means MailChannels MX records.

3. 78.66% of matched companies have 1 to 10 staff; Brazil is the second country.

4. Exits follow hosting and mailbox moves, not rival gateways.

Frequently Asked Questions

Who uses MailChannels?

Mostly DreamHost customers. MailChannels sells its inbound filter to web hosts, and DreamHost's help centre says a domain's MX records read mx1 and mx2.mailchannels.net when its spam filtering is on. Our crawl finds 67,894 domains routed this way in October 2026, and 78.66% of matched companies have 1 to 10 staff. Names include InMotion Hosting, Epicenter Technologies and the ALMA Observatory.

How many customers does MailChannels have?

Our October 2026 crawl counts 67,894 domains whose inbound mail passes through MailChannels, 35,668 of them matched to a company. These are domains on hosts that switched the filter on; MailChannels' own customers are the hosts. Its outbound relay and Email API users aren't in this number at all. 2,654 domains have dropped the inbound filter since March 2026.

What is MailChannels's market share?

8.84% of Email Security, fourth of the 12 technologies we track, on 67,894 domains. That measures inbound filtering only: the outbound relay MailChannels is better known for is set up through an SPF include, which this rule doesn't read. The like-for-like row is Jellyfish (95,075), another host's built-in filter. Mimecast (72,817) and Barracuda (67,327) are gateways companies buy.

What are the best alternatives to MailChannels?

It depends who's asking. A business on DreamHost can turn the filter off and receive mail at Microsoft 365 or Google Workspace, as 201 and 92 domains that left MailChannels since March now do. A company wanting its own gateway looks at Mimecast (72,817 domains in our crawl) or Barracuda (67,327). For hosts, the comparable built-in filter in our table is Namecheap's Jellyfish.

Which countries use MailChannels the most?

The United States, with 16,539 matched companies, 46.37% of the 35,668 we matched. Brazil is second with 2,475, then the United Kingdom (2,090), Canada (1,970) and Mexico (1,041). Adding Argentina, Chile and Colombia, Latin America holds 4,442. Brazil doesn't appear in the top 15 on our Jellyfish, Barracuda or Hornetsecurity pages at all.

What size companies use MailChannels?

Very small ones. Of the 33,005 matched companies with a known size, 78.66% have 1 to 10 employees and 16.02% have 11 to 50, so 94.68% have 50 or fewer. Only 104 have more than 1,000 staff. That's a web host's customer list: one website and a handful of mailboxes, with the filter switched on by the host.

How old are companies that use MailChannels?

Of 15,616 matched companies with a founding year, 42.57% were founded in the 2010s, 22.51% in the 2000s and 17.76% in the 2020s. That's older than Jellyfish's base, where 80.35% date from 2010 or later, and 8.39% of MailChannels' companies predate 1990. It fits small firms that set up hosting years ago and stayed.

What is the ideal customer profile for MailChannels?

The ideal MailChannels customer is: Company Size: 1-10 employees (78.66%), Location: US, then Brazil, UK, Canada, Founded: 2010-2019 (42.57%), Industry: Agencies, retail, IT, consulting, Hosting: DreamHost with spam filtering on — based on our analysis of 35,668 enriched companies at TechnologyChecker.io.

What is MailChannels?

MailChannels is an email infrastructure company with three main products: Outbound Filtering, a relay hosts use to stop customer spam leaving their servers; Inbound Filtering, which hosts put in front of customers' mailboxes; and an Email API for transactional mail. This page counts Inbound Filtering, the only one that appears in a domain's MX record, on 67,894 domains.

What is the MailChannels relay?

MailChannels' relay is its Outbound Filtering service: a host sends outgoing mail from its servers through MailChannels, which screens it for spam and compromised accounts before delivery. Domains authorise it with include:relay.mailchannels.net in their SPF record, per MailChannels' pricing page. Our count doesn't include relay users; it reads only MX records pointing at mailchannels.net.

Is MailChannels free?

Partly. The Email API has a free plan of up to 3,000 emails a month (100 a day), with paid plans from $10 a month, and Outbound Filtering starts at $99.99 a month for 40,000 messages, per MailChannels' pricing page (checked 15 October 2026). Inbound Filtering is sold to hosting providers through sales, so site owners deal with their host, not MailChannels.

What is the difference between inbound and outbound mail filtering?

Inbound filtering checks mail arriving for a domain and blocks spam, phishing and malware before it reaches the mailbox; it sits in the domain's MX record. Outbound filtering checks mail leaving a server, so one compromised account can't get a host's IP addresses blocklisted. MailChannels sells both. This page counts inbound only: 67,894 domains whose MX points at mailchannels.net.

Does DreamHost use MailChannels?

Yes, for inbound spam filtering. DreamHost's help centre says that when spam filtering is enabled on a domain, its MX records appear as mx1.mailchannels.net and mx2.mailchannels.net, and as mx1 and mx2.dreamhost.com when it isn't. In our data DreamHost shows on 80.2% of MailChannels domains, and 649 of 1,000 we sampled served their website from DreamHost.

How does TechnologyChecker.io detect MailChannels?

From the domain's MX record. A domain counts when its mail exchanger is at mailchannels.net, meaning inbound mail passes MailChannels' filter. We looked up 1,000 random domains on 15 October 2026 and 972 still pointed there. All of them used the same two hostnames, mx1 and mx2.mailchannels.net, so the record can't tell you which host turned it on.

Why do domains stop using MailChannels?

Mostly because their hosting or mailboxes change. Of the 2,635 domains that dropped MailChannels on every hostname since March 2026, 201 now point their MX at Microsoft 365 and 92 at Google Workspace. The only switching flow that passes our tests goes to Jellyfish: 28 domains, 19 of which now use Namecheap's hosting nameservers.
