Companies Using Microsec
This is Microsec, the Hungarian certificate authority behind e-Szignó, not the US or Singapore firms with the same name. Our October 2026 crawl finds 673 domains with its domain-validation record, a TXT entry of the form microsec-verification= plus a code and a date. Microsec reads it before issuing a TLS certificate, and the record usually stays, so the count is domains that validated with Microsec at least once. Below is the list of companies that use Microsec, including OTP Group, MOL Group, Magyar Posta, MBH Bank and the Magyar Nemzeti Bank.
Microsec ranks 14th in SSL/TLS Certificates with a 0.31% share, and it's almost entirely Hungarian: 374 of the 403 matched companies in our country table. Its records are also recent. When we connected to the domains on 15 October 2026, 354 of the 646 that answered (54.80%) served a Microsec certificate.

Microsec Usage Statistics
The chart reads 539 domains in June 2026 and 673 in October, matching the headline. Part of that is our crawl: the domains we cover turn over monthly as dead sites drop out and new ones arrive, and our DNS detection widened over the same months. Microsec's records also carry their own date, which no chart needs: 469 domains have a code dated 2026, and 538 have one from the 12 months before 15 October 2026. 24 domains dropped the record since 17 March 2026.

Which Countries Use Microsec the Most?
Which countries use Microsec the most? Hungary, with 374 of the 403 matched companies, or 92.8%. The rest are a few each: the United Kingdom (4), Austria and Belgium (3 each), and neighbours such as Slovakia, Romania and Slovenia, mostly subsidiaries of Hungarian groups such as MOL's Slovnaft. Microsec is a domestic CA, and its list reads like a directory of Hungarian institutions.
Share of the 442 Microsec domains we matched to a company record — 65.7% of the 673 we detect. Top 15 countries shown, so these do not sum to 100%. Domains with no matching company record are not represented here and skew small and independent.
Microsec Market Share Among SSL/TLS Certificates
What is Microsec's market share? 0.31% of SSL/TLS Certificates, ranked 14th on 673 domains, based on our crawl at TechnologyChecker.io. The table counts CA validation records and site seals, so it compares Microsec with much larger international CAs. Measured by live certificates, its records hold up well: 54.80% of answering domains still served a Microsec certificate on 15 October 2026, against 36.16% for GlobalSign.
Top Competitors by Market Share
Microsec Customers by Company Size & Age
What size companies use Microsec? Two groups. 31.42% have 1 to 10 staff, but 18.2% have 51 to 200 and 14.46% have 201 to 500, and 12.72% have more than 1,000, based on our analysis of 442 enriched companies. The large end is Hungary's banks, utilities and state companies: OTP, MOL, MVM, Magyar Posta and MÁV.
Company Size Distribution
Company Age (Founded Decade)
The base is post-transition Hungary. 25.97% of matched companies were founded in the 1990s, the largest decade, and 24.68% in the 2010s. 13.85% predate 1960, a group that includes Magyar Posta (1867) and the Magyar Nemzeti Bank (1924).
What Industries Use Microsec the Most?
Financial Services leads at 9.14%, then IT Services (7.2%), Oil and Gas (6.93%), Banking (5.54%), Government Administration (5.26%) and Insurance (3.32%), based on our enriched company data. Oil and Gas is high partly because MOL Group validated its brand and country domains, and LinkedIn also files the electricity companies MVM and MAVIR under it. The picture is regulated industries and the state.
Hungarian banks using Microsec include OTP Group, MBH Bank and the Magyar Nemzeti Bank, all serving Microsec certificates on 15 October 2026. Energy companies on Microsec include MOL Group, MVM and the grid operator MAVIR, and state bodies using Microsec include NISZ, IdomSoft, the statistics office KSH and the public broadcaster's fund MTVA.
Microsec Alternatives & Competitors
All four rows in this table are CAs counted from their DNS validation records, so the comparison is like for like, but none of them is a Hungarian rival. GlobalSign has 165,576 domains, SwissSign 10,230, Actalis 4,255 and D-Trust 1,927. Overlap is minimal: 8 Microsec domains also carry a GlobalSign record and 4 a QuoVadis record. The live competitor is Let's Encrypt, which served 192 of 646 answering domains.

Expert Analysis: Microsec Growth Trends & Key Signals for Sales Teams in 2026

I run the crawler that reads DNS records for every domain we visit. A domain counts here when a TXT record contains Microsec, which in practice means microsec-verification= followed by a UUID and a date. Our October 2026 crawl puts that at 673 domains, 442 matched to a company, 14th in SSL/TLS Certificates. On 15 October 2026 I re-read the DNS of all 676 domains in our clean set and connected to each over TLS.
What the record proves
The CA/Browser Forum's Baseline Requirements let a CA confirm domain control with a random value in a DNS TXT record, valid for 30 days, and reuse that validation for at most 200 days. Microsec's version appends the date to every code, which makes its records the only ones I examined in this category that tell you when the validation happened. 645 of the 676 domains carry a dated code; the newest code is from 2026 on 469 of them, 2025 on 132, 2024 on 38 and 2023 on 6.
The rule is a substring, so I checked what else it catches: two domains, microsec.co.uk, a British company with the same name, and microsecurity.com, through its mail settings. That's 0.30% of the count.
Sales signal: the date is a renewal calendar. A code from 2025 on a domain still serving Microsec means a renewal is due.
How much of it is current
646 domains answered. 354 (54.80%) served a Microsec certificate, Let's Encrypt 192, Google Trust Services 45 and DigiCert 21. A random 50 gave 20 of 48. The dates explain most of it: of the 538 domains whose newest code is from the last 12 months, 326 serve Microsec; of the 107 with only older codes, 21 do.
"Microsec is the only CA in this set that dates its own records. Domains with a code from the last year mostly still serve its certificate; domains without one mostly don't." - David Thomson, CTO at TechnologyChecker.io
That leaves 191 domains with a recent code and another issuer on the homepage, which can mean the Microsec certificate sits on a subdomain such as a customer portal rather than the homepage.
Sales signal: for this CA, a recent code is close to a current-customer flag. Filter on it.
When they validate
The 2026 dates show a rhythm. The newest code on a domain fell in January on 32 domains, February 55, March 32, April 16, May 27 and June 46, then rose to 63 in July, 55 in August, 83 in September and 60 in the first half of October. Since March 2026 a validation can only be reused for 200 days, so domains that renewed in the spring had to validate again by autumn, and certificate terms are getting shorter too. Expect more dated codes per domain from here on, not fewer.
Sales signal: busy validation months are renewal months. Time outreach to the code dates, not to the calendar year.
Group orders
Microsec sells multi-domain certificates, and the domains in one order appear to share a code. 232 domains share a code with at least one other, in 73 groups. MOL Group validated 11 brand and country domains together, from mol.hu and molgroup.info to slovnaft.sk and Croatia's tifon.hr. MTVA, the fund behind Hungary's public broadcaster, validated 10, including hirado.hu, m4sport.hu and mti.hu. Others are the Budapest utilities (8), Mathias Corvinus Collegium (7), the Tempus Public Foundation (7) and MVM (6).
Sales signal: count organisations, not domains. MOL is one buyer with eleven sites.
Who uses it
Hungary has 374 of the 403 matched companies. The list reads like a directory of Hungarian institutions: banks (OTP, MBH, CIB, K&H, Erste), the central bank, insurers (UNION, UNIQA, Generali, Allianz), energy (MOL, MVM, MAVIR, Paks II), transport (MÁV, BKV, BKK, Volánbusz) and government IT (NISZ, IdomSoft). 25.97% were founded in the 1990s. 22 of the 50 companies in our list served a Microsec certificate on 15 October 2026.
Sales signal: this is a domestic, institutional market. Expect Hungarian-language tenders and eIDAS requirements.
No switching to report
We publish no migration table. 24 domains dropped the record since 17 March 2026, and a recount on 15 October found 2 of the dropped domains still carrying it on another hostname. Overlap with other CAs' records is tiny: 8 domains also carry a GlobalSign record, 4 QuoVadis. Where a Microsec domain's homepage runs another CA, it's mostly Let's Encrypt (192 domains), well ahead of any paid CA.
"Where a Hungarian homepage doesn't run Microsec, it mostly runs a free certificate; DigiCert has 21 and Sectigo 16." - David Thomson, CTO at TechnologyChecker.io
Sales signal: on these domains the alternative to Microsec is usually a free certificate. A paid CA has to beat Let's Encrypt on service, not Microsec on price.
The stack around it
Across the 676 domains, Google Analytics runs on 65.09% and Gemius, the Central European audience measurement panel, on 4.59%. WordPress is on 28.55%, Drupal 5.33%, Liferay 2.66%, and jsDelivr 13.31%.
Sales signal: Gemius points to publishers and Liferay to large portals, both buyers with formal procurement.
What it costs
Microsec's e-Szignó SSL/TLS page listed an OV certificate for one domain at HUF 33,000 a year before VAT, a wildcard at HUF 93,000 and UCC certificates from HUF 110,000 for 8 domains to HUF 780,000 for 100, with ACME automation. The certificates are OV-level by default: 269 of the 354 live ones came from its OV issuing CAs and 7 from qualified TLS CAs. Microsec's company history dates the business to 1984.
Sales signal: UCC pricing explains the group orders. Buyers with many domains are the profitable ones.
Key takeaways
1. 673 domains validated with Microsec; 54.80% of answering domains serve its certificate.
2. Dated codes: 538 domains validated in the last 12 months.
3. 232 domains sit in 73 multi-domain orders, MOL and MTVA the largest.
4. 92.8% of matched companies are Hungarian.
5. Where a homepage doesn't run Microsec, it mostly runs Let's Encrypt.
How to use this list
Filter on the code date first, then group domains by code to count organisations. Our certificate authority market share report covers the issuance side. The full list of 673 domains, with 442 matched companies, is on TechnologyChecker.io.
Frequently Asked Questions
Who uses Microsec?
Hungarian institutions, mostly. 374 of the 403 matched companies in our country table are Hungarian, led by banks (OTP Group, MBH Bank, the Magyar Nemzeti Bank), energy companies (MOL Group, MVM, MAVIR), the post office, the railways and government IT bodies such as NISZ and IdomSoft. All carried a Microsec record when we checked on 15 October 2026.
How many customers does Microsec have?
We count 673 domains with a Microsec validation record in October 2026, not customers. Fewer organisations sit behind them: 232 of the 676 domains in our clean set share a validation code with at least one other domain, because groups such as MOL and MTVA validate their portfolios in one order. 442 domains match a company.
What is Microsec's market share?
Microsec holds 0.31% of SSL/TLS Certificates at TechnologyChecker.io, ranked 14th on 673 domains. That table counts CA validation records and site seals across all countries, so a domestic Hungarian CA looks small in it. Its records are current: 354 of the 646 domains that answered on 15 October 2026 served its certificates.
What are the best alternatives to Microsec?
International CAs such as DigiCert, Sectigo and GlobalSign sell the same OV certificates, and Let's Encrypt is the free option: it served 192 of the 646 answering Microsec domains in our check. For qualified website certificates under eIDAS, buyers need a qualified trust service provider; Microsec is one, and other EU providers such as D-Trust and Actalis are too.
Which countries use Microsec the most?
Hungary, with 374 of the 403 matched companies, 92.8%. The United Kingdom has 4, Austria and Belgium 3 each, and Slovakia, Romania, Slovenia and the Baltic states one or two, some of them subsidiaries of Hungarian groups such as MOL's Slovnaft, others local firms such as Estonia's Inbank. Outside Hungary, Microsec has a scattering of customers rather than a market.
What size companies use Microsec?
31.42% of matched companies have 1 to 10 staff, 17.46% have 11 to 50, 18.2% have 51 to 200 and 14.46% have 201 to 500. 12.72% have more than 1,000 staff, among them OTP, MOL, MVM, Magyar Telekom and Magyar Posta. The base is weighted to mid-sized and large organisations for a CA.
How old are companies that use Microsec?
Mostly established. 25.97% of matched companies with a known founding year started in the 1990s, Hungary's first decade after 1989, and 24.68% in the 2010s. The 2000s add 16.45% and 13.85% are older than 1960, including Magyar Posta, founded in 1867, and the Magyar Nemzeti Bank, founded in 1924. Only 9.09% started in the 2020s.
What is the ideal customer profile for Microsec?
On our data, a Hungarian bank, insurer, utility or state body with 50 to 500 staff, founded in the 1990s, that buys organisation-validated certificates, often for a whole group of domains at once, and runs WordPress or Drupal with Google Analytics. MOL, MTVA and the Budapest utilities are the template for multi-domain buyers.
Which Microsec is this?
This page covers Microsec Ltd., the Hungarian certificate authority behind the e-Szignó brand, based in Budapest. Its predecessor was founded in 1984 by eight electrical engineers and became a limited company in 1991. It isn't MicroSec, the US IT services firm, or MicroSec, the Singapore IoT security company, which rank above it in English search results.
How much does a Microsec SSL certificate cost?
Microsec's e-Szignó site listed, on 15 October 2026, an OV certificate for one domain at HUF 33,000 a year before VAT (HUF 41,910 gross), a wildcard at HUF 93,000 and multi-domain UCC certificates from HUF 110,000 for 8 domains to HUF 780,000 for 100. It also supports automatic issuance and renewal through ACME.
What is the microsec-verification TXT record?
It's Microsec's DNS check of domain control: the owner publishes microsec-verification= followed by a code and a date, and Microsec reads it before issuing. The date makes it unusual. On 15 October 2026, 645 of 676 domains had a dated code; 469 had one from 2026 and 538 one from the previous 12 months.
Is Microsec a trusted certificate authority?
Microsec is a Hungarian qualified trust service provider, and its e-Szignó site lists its root certificates in Windows, Apple, Android and Mozilla's NSS stores. On our live check of 15 October 2026, 354 of the 646 domains that answered served Microsec certificates, including the Magyar Nemzeti Bank, OTP Group and Magyar Posta, issued from its e-Szigno OV and qualified TLS CAs.
Why do so many domains share one Microsec code?
Because one order can cover many domains. Microsec sells multi-domain UCC certificates for up to 100 domains, and the domains in one order appear to share a code. On 15 October 2026, 232 domains shared a code with another domain: MOL Group's 11 brand and country sites, MTVA's 10 broadcasting sites and the Budapest utilities' 8 among them.
