Companies Using Fedora
Our October 2026 crawl finds Fedora on 1,461 live domains. What we read is one line a web server writes about itself: Apache as packaged by the Fedora Project answers with a Server header such as Apache/2.4.68 (Fedora Linux) OpenSSL/3.5.8. The site owner seldom picks that line. Whoever built the server did, typically a developer on a cloud machine, a university IT team or a small hosting company. Below is the list of companies that use Fedora this way, with size, country, industry and stack. It includes Nidec, whose www.nidec-dtc.com answers Apache/2.4.69 (Fedora Linux), plus UNAM, Mars Hill University and IIT Goa.
Fedora is the free, community-run distribution that Red Hat sponsors as the upstream of Red Hat Enterprise Linux. A new release comes out about every six months and each gets roughly 13 months of updates, so it's an unusual choice for a public web server. It ranks 9th of the 16 systems we track in Operating Systems, with 0.16%. When we requested 50 random Fedora domains again on 15 October 2026, 46 still sent the banner and four didn't answer. Only 17 of the 46 carried Apache 2.4.68 or 2.4.69, the builds Fedora shipped to its two supported releases between June and October 2026.
One network stands out. 183 of the 1,451 domains we looked up sit on AS24679, a hosting network run by kyberio GmbH of Hanover, and 148 of those are German .de sites. Another 531 run on cloud servers at DigitalOcean, Akamai's Linode, AWS, OVHcloud, Hetzner and Contabo.

Fedora Usage Statistics
Fedora reads 1,111 domains in June 2026, 1,358 in July, 1,412 in August, 1,453 in September and 1,461 in October. The June to July jump comes from our side rather than from new servers: the set of domains we crawl turns over every month, with dead sites dropping out and newly found ones added, and our detection widened over the summer. Since July the line is nearly flat. 152 domains have dropped the banner since we began tracking Fedora in March 2026, and 31 of those still send it from another hostname.

Which Countries Use Fedora the Most?
Which countries use Fedora the most? The United States, with 185 matched companies, and Germany, with 160, then France (46), the United Kingdom (30), the Netherlands (29) and Poland (26). Germany's weight comes mostly from one hosting network: 148 German .de sites sit on AS24679, kyberio's network in Hanover, from tax advisers to roofers and care homes. These counts cover the 766 Fedora domains we matched to a company.
Share of the 766 Fedora domains we matched to a company record — 52.4% of the 1,461 we detect. Top 15 countries shown, so these do not sum to 100%. Domains with no matching company record are not represented here and skew small and independent.
Fedora Market Share Among Operating Systems
What is Fedora's market share? 0.16% of Operating Systems, 9th of the 16 we track at TechnologyChecker.io, on 1,461 domains. Ubuntu leads with 478,516 domains (53.38%), then UNIX (214,952), Debian (135,941) and CentOS (32,405). Every row reads the operating-system label in the same Server header, so the comparison is like for like; UNIX is Apache's generic label for builds that don't name a distribution. Red Hat, Fedora's commercial sibling, ranks two places higher.
Top Competitors by Market Share
Fedora Customers by Company Size & Age
What size companies use Fedora? Mostly small ones. 65.05% of matched companies with a known size have 1 to 10 employees and 21.53% have 11 to 50. Eleven have more than 1,000 staff, and most of those run Fedora on one side system rather than across the business: UNAM on a student-guidance site, the Medical University of Sofia on an academic-careers portal. Nidec is the exception, with Fedora answering on nidec-dtc.com, the main site of its gear-reducer business.
Company Size Distribution
Company Age (Founded Decade)
The largest group of matched companies was founded in the 2000s (27.21%), then the 2010s (25.37%) and the 1990s (19.49%). 9.93% predate 1960, a share pushed up by universities and public bodies such as Mars Hill University (1856) and SESC Rio (1946). Only 8.09% were founded in the 2020s. These shares rest on the 272 companies with a known founding year.
What Industries Use Fedora the Most?
IT Services and IT Consulting leads at 6.3%, then Software Development (5.95%) and Higher Education (3.5%), based on our enriched company data. The top ten industries add up to about 36%, so no sector owns Fedora. The technical lead fits a system that people install by hand. The tail of builders, clinics and estate agents mostly reached Fedora through a host or web agency that set the server up for them.
Universities using Fedora form the clearest group: Mars Hill University, IIT Goa and BlueCrest University College run Moodle on it, and Bharathidasan University runs its exam portal there. Software companies on Fedora include eGen in Czechia. Real estate firms using Fedora include ERA Brokers, whose site answers with a Fedora Linux banner.
Fedora Alternatives & Competitors
The four leaders read the same Server label, so the table compares like with like. On Fedora domains they seldom overlap: 23 domains run Fedora and Ubuntu on different hostnames today, and 13 run Fedora and CentOS. The leavers we can follow went to AlmaLinux and Debian, and those moves were mostly whole servers being rebuilt, as the next section shows. Fedora's real competition on a web server is any release with longer support, chosen when the machine is set up.
Fedora Customer Migration
Since tracking began, 15 domains moved from Fedora to AlmaLinux and 11 to Debian, while 4 came to Fedora from Debian. Counts are domains on 30- and 90-day windows: 4 of the AlmaLinux moves and all 11 Debian moves fall in the last 90 days, and just one in the last 30. Most of these moves are whole servers being rebuilt. 12 of the 15 AlmaLinux moves are Brazilian regional news sites on one server, and 7 of the 11 Debian moves are Czech sites on another.
Tech Stack of Fedora-Powered Websites
Across the 1,451 Fedora domains in our clean set, Apache runs on 99.79%. That's the detection showing through: Apache prints the label, so a Fedora server behind Nginx or a CDN never shows up here. OpenSSL appears on 93.25%. PHP runs on 61.61% and WordPress on 33.98%, with Elementor on 11.58%. mod_perl and Perl both sit at 13.92% and Python at 5.79%, so a fair number of these servers run Perl or Python applications next to PHP.

Expert Analysis: Fedora Growth Trends & Key Signals for Sales Teams in 2026

At Bing I learned that server banners are the cheapest signal a crawler collects and the easiest to misread. Fedora shows why. A domain counts here when its web server answers with a Server header naming Fedora, such as Apache/2.4.68 (Fedora Linux). Our October 2026 crawl finds 1,461 live domains like that, 766 of them matched to a company, 9th of 16 in Operating Systems. Before trusting the number I wanted three answers: are the banners still there, who writes them, and who sits behind them?
The banner is still there, and often old
On 15 October 2026 I requested 50 random Fedora domains again. 46 sent a Fedora banner, two of them after a redirect, and four didn't answer. 31 of the 46 used the newer "(Fedora Linux)" label and 15 the older "(Fedora)". The version numbers tell a second story. Fedora releases about every six months and supports each release for roughly 13 months, according to its release life cycle, and its two supported releases in October 2026, 43 and 44, had received Apache 2.4.68 and 2.4.69 since June. Only 17 of the 46 carried those builds. The rest went back as far as Apache 2.2.9, and 15 still named an OpenSSL 1.x library.
Sales signal: a Fedora banner with an old Apache build marks a server nobody has upgraded in a long time. Managed hosting, migration and security services get a concrete opening line from the banner itself.
Flat since July
The chart reads 1,111 in June, 1,358 in July, 1,412 in August, 1,453 in September and 1,461 in October. The June to July step is our crawl covering more of the web and our detection widening, and the domain list itself turns over each month as dead sites leave and new ones arrive. Since we began tracking Fedora in March 2026, 152 domains have dropped the banner. 31 of those still send it from another hostname, so about 121 left entirely.
"A Fedora banner is a choice somebody made on one specific machine. On a public web server that's unusual, and the version string usually tells you how long ago they made it." - Mehmet Suleyman, CEO & Co-founder at TechnologyChecker.io
Sales signal: treat this as a stable pool of roughly 1,400 domains. The value is in what each server says about the people who run it.
Who writes the banner
The site owner rarely picks the operating system; whoever built the server does. I resolved all 1,451 domains in our clean set and grouped them by network. 183 sit on AS24679, a hosting network run by kyberio GmbH of Hanover, and 148 of those are German .de sites: tax advisers, roofers, care homes, a Buxtehude restaurant. Another 531 run on cloud servers at DigitalOcean (123), AWS (122), Akamai's Linode (115), OVHcloud (89), Hetzner (53) and Contabo (29), where a developer picked Fedora as the image. Single owners show up too: one server in Poland carries 20 product sites for one drug maker.
Sales signal: in the German cluster the buyer is the hosting company, not the 148 businesses on it. On the cloud servers the buyer is the developer or agency that runs the machine.
Small firms, universities and one gear maker
65.05% of matched companies with a known size have 1 to 10 employees and 21.53% have 11 to 50. Age points the same way: the 2000s (27.21%) and 2010s (25.37%) lead, and only 8.09% were founded in the 2020s. The big names are mostly one system inside a large organisation. UNAM runs Fedora on its student-guidance site, the Medical University of Sofia on an academic-careers portal, Bharathidasan University on its exam portal, and Mars Hill University and IIT Goa on Moodle. Nidec is the odd one out: www.nidec-dtc.com, the main site of its gear-reducer business, answers with Apache/2.4.69 (Fedora Linux) and mod_perl.
Sales signal: at universities the buyer is the department that owns the server, often e-learning or exams. Pitch to that team first.
The US, Germany and the Moodle servers
The United States leads with 185 matched companies, but Germany is close behind with 160, largely because of the kyberio network. France (46), the United Kingdom (30), the Netherlands (29) and Poland (26) follow. By industry, IT Services and IT Consulting leads at 6.3%, Software Development has 5.95% and Higher Education 3.5%. The top ten industries add up to only about 36%, so the base is horizontal. What ties it together is a technical person who chose the OS.
Sales signal: for developer tooling or managed Linux, the IT-services and software firms here are the closest fit. For German small-business services, start with the hosting network that serves 148 of them.
Where Fedora servers go
The switching data is small, and it describes servers. Since tracking began, 15 domains moved to AlmaLinux and 11 to Debian, while 4 came from Debian. When I looked up the addresses, 12 of the 15 AlmaLinux moves were Brazilian regional news sites sharing one server, and 7 of the 11 Debian moves were Czech sites on another. Two rebuilt machines explain most of the movement. Overlap is commoner than switching: 23 domains run Fedora and Ubuntu on different hostnames today, and 13 run Fedora and CentOS.
"Two rebuilt servers account for 19 of the 26 domains that left Fedora for a system we can name. On a header signal, a switch is usually one administrator's weekend, not a market trend." - Mehmet Suleyman, CEO & Co-founder at TechnologyChecker.io
Sales signal: a Fedora server is a rebuild waiting to happen. The ones on old Apache builds are the likeliest to move, and when they do, they tend to land on AlmaLinux or Debian.
The stack around it
Apache runs on 99.79% of Fedora domains because Apache writes the label; a Fedora server behind Nginx or a CDN never appears here. OpenSSL shows on 93.25%. PHP is on 61.61% and WordPress on 33.98%, with Elementor on 11.58%. mod_perl and Perl are on 13.92% and Python on 5.79%, and Nidec's banner lists mod_perl too. Cloudflare fronts just 5.17% of these domains, which fits servers that answer the web directly.
Sales signal: these are self-managed Apache servers with PHP and WordPress on top. Hosting migration, WordPress maintenance and server hardening all fit.
Key takeaways
1. 1,461 live domains, 9th of 16 in Operating Systems, and 46 of 50 sampled servers still send the banner.
2. Only 17 of those 46 ran the Apache builds Fedora currently ships.
3. One Hanover hosting network carries 183 domains; cloud servers carry 531.
4. A small-company base, 65.05% with 10 or fewer staff, plus university systems.
5. Switching is rare and mostly whole servers: 19 of 26 named moves came from two machines.
How to use this list
Filter by country and company size, then group rows by server address, because one machine often carries many domains. For the full list of 1,461 Fedora domains with company, size and stack data, explore TechnologyChecker.io.
Frequently Asked Questions
Who uses Fedora?
Mostly small firms, universities and public bodies whose server announces Fedora in its Server header. The banner shows on 1,461 live domains in our October 2026 crawl, and 65.05% of matched companies have 10 or fewer staff. Named users include Nidec on www.nidec-dtc.com, UNAM, Mars Hill University and IIT Goa on their Moodle servers, and the Medical University of Sofia on a careers portal.
How many customers does Fedora have?
Fedora is free, so it has users rather than customers. In October 2026 we found 1,461 live domains whose web server announces Fedora, and 766 of them match a company. When we requested 50 of them at random on 15 October, 46 still sent the banner. 152 domains have dropped it since March 2026, though 31 of those still send it from another hostname.
What is Fedora's market share?
0.16% of the operating systems we can read from web-server headers, 9th of the 16 we track, on 1,461 domains. Ubuntu leads with 478,516 domains (53.38%), then UNIX (214,952), Debian (135,941) and CentOS (32,405). Every row comes from the same Server-header label, so the shares compare like with like, but servers that hide the label aren't counted anywhere.
What are the best alternatives to Fedora?
For a public web server, most teams choose a release with longer support. Ubuntu and Debian lead our table with 478,516 and 135,941 domains. To stay close to Fedora's code, there's Red Hat Enterprise Linux, which Fedora feeds, and AlmaLinux. The Fedora servers we saw switch went to AlmaLinux (15 domains) and Debian (11), mostly as whole servers rebuilt at once.
Which countries use Fedora the most?
The United States, with 185 matched companies, and Germany, with 160, then France (46), the United Kingdom (30), the Netherlands (29) and Poland (26). Germany's count is high because one Hanover hosting network, kyberio's AS24679, carries 183 Fedora domains, 148 of them German .de sites. These figures cover the 766 Fedora domains we matched to a company.
What size companies use Fedora?
Small ones, mostly. 65.05% of matched companies with a known size have 1 to 10 employees and 21.53% have 11 to 50, so 86.58% have 50 or fewer staff. Eleven have more than 1,000 employees. Most of those run Fedora on a side system, such as UNAM's student-guidance site, while Nidec answers with a Fedora banner on nidec-dtc.com, the main site of its gear-reducer business.
How old are companies that use Fedora?
Among the 272 matched companies with a known founding year, the largest group was founded in the 2000s (27.21%), then the 2010s (25.37%) and the 1990s (19.49%). 9.93% predate 1960, mostly universities and public bodies such as Mars Hill University, founded in 1856. Only 8.09% date from the 2020s, so this is an established base rather than a startup one.
What is the ideal customer profile for Fedora?
Fedora has no sales team, so read this as the profile of the servers. The typical Fedora domain belongs to a company of 1 to 10 people in the United States or Germany, often an IT or software firm founded in the 2000s or 2010s. It runs Apache with PHP on a cloud server, a university network or one German hosting network.
Is Fedora still used?
Yes, though seldom on public web servers. We count 1,461 live domains announcing Fedora in October 2026, against 478,516 for Ubuntu. On 15 October we requested 50 random Fedora domains again and 46 still sent the banner. Only 17 of those 46 carried the Apache builds Fedora shipped to its supported releases, 43 and 44, between June and October 2026.
Is Fedora Linux owned by IBM?
Not directly. Fedora is a community project, and Red Hat is its primary sponsor, according to Red Hat's own page comparing Fedora with Red Hat Enterprise Linux. IBM closed its acquisition of Red Hat in 2019, so IBM money supports Fedora at one remove. Fedora is also the upstream for Red Hat Enterprise Linux, the paid, supported product built from the same code.
Is Fedora good for servers?
It can be, if you're ready to upgrade often. Fedora ships a release about every six months and supports each for roughly 13 months, so a server needs a major upgrade about once a year. Our crawl shows what happens when that slips: of 46 Fedora banners we checked in October 2026, 29 carried older Apache builds, some as old as Apache 2.2.9.
How much does Fedora cost?
Nothing. Fedora is a free community distribution, server edition included. Paid, supported releases of the same lineage come as Red Hat Enterprise Linux. In our crawl, 531 of the 1,451 Fedora domains we looked up sit on cloud servers at DigitalOcean, Akamai's Linode, AWS, OVHcloud, Hetzner and Contabo, so the real cost is the server you rent.
Which is better for a server, Fedora or Ubuntu?
For public web servers, the market has picked Ubuntu: our crawl counts 478,516 domains announcing Ubuntu against 1,461 for Fedora. Ubuntu's LTS releases come every two years with five years of security maintenance, which suits servers you don't want to rebuild. Fedora suits teams that want newer packages. 23 domains run both today on different hostnames.
How can you tell a website runs Fedora?
Look at its HTTP response headers. Apache built by Fedora adds the distribution to its Server header, for example Apache/2.4.69 (Fedora Linux) OpenSSL/3.5.9, while older builds say (Fedora). In our October 2026 sample, 31 of 46 banners used the newer label. Administrators can hide it with a ServerTokens setting and CDNs replace it, so every count here is a floor.
