Companies Using Visa
Our database tracks 874,207 companies using Visa, from one-person online stores to global brands that use Visa like Four Seasons, Mattel, BBC, and Peloton. Visa reported $40.0 billion in fiscal 2025 net revenue across 257.5 billion processed transactions. Below you'll find a full list of companies using Visa with market share, industry breakdowns, and geographic data.
Visa holds a 10.91% share of the payment processing category and ranks 4th, behind PayPal, Apple Pay, and Shop Pay. One detail shapes everything else on this page: 99.6% of the websites using Visa we detect also run Shopify, so what we're measuring is the Visa acceptance mark at checkout, not a merchant's acquiring relationship. The top companies using Visa skew heavily toward direct-to-consumer retail. Data refreshed monthly.

Visa Usage Statistics
Visa first appears in our detection history in May 2013 on 2,990 domains, and the count climbed to a peak of 1,233,379 active domains in April 2025. Growth wasn't smooth. The steepest stretch ran from March to May 2020, when detections went from 95,801 to 211,485 as lockdown-era merchants pushed their storefronts online. Note the gap between July 2025 and June 2026: our detection engine changed over in that window, so the step across it is a change in how we measure, not a swing in adoption.

Which Countries Use Visa the Most?
Which countries use Visa the most? The United States leads with 72,387 companies, or 40.3% of the 179,595 businesses where we have a confirmed country, ahead of the United Kingdom (24,113) and Australia (14,530). The detected footprint spans 194 countries. Six English-speaking markets in our top 15 account for 128,499 companies between them, about 72% of the located base, which reflects where hosted commerce platforms are strongest rather than where Visa is accepted.
Visa Market Share Among Payment Processing
What is Visa's market share? Visa holds a 10.91% share of the Payment Processing category and ranks #4, just 565 domains ahead of Mastercard (10.9%) and well behind PayPal at 19.25%. All three technologies above it are wallets or one-click checkouts rather than card networks, which tells you this ranking measures checkout surface area and not payment volume. Based on our monthly crawl across 6,300+ tracked technologies at TechnologyChecker.io.
Top Competitors by Market Share
Visa Customers by Company Size & Age
Is Visa only for large merchants? Not close. 78.8% of the companies we detect have 1-10 employees, measured across 171,126 businesses with a published headcount, and only 76 sit in the 10,001+ bracket. That skew follows directly from what's being detected, a checkout badge on small storefronts rather than an enterprise acquiring contract. The large names that do appear, Four Seasons and Mattel among them, are usually merchandise or gift-shop subdomains.

Company Age (Founded Decade)
What Industries Use Visa the Most?
Retail is the dominant vertical at 19.25%, followed by Retail Apparel and Fashion at 10.15%. Counting apparel, luxury goods, personal care and sporting goods alongside general retail, consumer categories make up 38.7% of the top ten on their own. The tail is long and thin: 459 distinct industries appear across the 141,772 companies where we have one, based on our enriched company data.
Retail brands using Visa form the largest vertical at 19.25%, and fashion companies using Visa add another 10.15% under the Retail Apparel and Fashion label alone. Consumer brands using Visa like Forever 21, YETI, and Aesop sit alongside tens of thousands of independent stores selling the same way. Wellness and fitness (2.9%) and food and beverage services (3.62%) fill out a base built almost entirely on direct-to-consumer commerce, based on our enriched company data.
Visa Alternatives & Competitors
Visa's competitive position is unusual because its three closest rivals aren't card networks. PayPal (19.25%) and Apple Pay (15.56%) are wallets merchants add alongside card acceptance, and Shop Pay (14.7%) ships on by default with Shopify. Mastercard at 10.9% tracks Visa almost exactly, which is what you'd expect when the same checkout template renders both marks, based on our market share data for the Payment Processing category.

Visa Customer Migration
Read these as changes in which payment marks a checkout page renders, not as merchants changing processors. The largest outbound flows go to PayPal (12,896 domains), Apple Pay (12,286) and Shop Pay (12,043), against 4,420 arrivals from Klarna Checkout and 3,814 from PayPal. Visa and Mastercard trade almost evenly, 892 out against 905 in, the clearest sign that the two networks move as a pair. Every count covers churn our crawler has watched directly since March 2026.

Tech Stack of Visa-Powered Websites
Across a sample of 100,000 active domains, 99.58% of Visa-detecting sites also run Shopify, the strongest single overlap we've measured on any technology profile. Google Analytics follows at 48.5%. What's absent matters more: WordPress shows up on just 0.37% of these domains, so this population is hosted commerce almost end to end rather than self-hosted CMS storefronts, based on our co-occurrence data at TechnologyChecker.io.

Expert Analysis: Visa Growth Trends & Key Signals for Sales Teams in 2026

With 10+ years in web crawling and technographic data analysis, much of my time goes to explaining why two numbers that look like they should match don't. Visa is the sharpest example on this site. As of our July 2026 crawl, we detect Visa on 874,207 active domains and enriched 185,660 of them with LinkedIn company records, a 21.2% match rate. Visa itself processed 257.5 billion transactions in fiscal 2025. Those two figures describe completely different things, and the gap between them is the most useful thing this page has to offer.
Growth trajectory
Visa's detected footprint started at 2,990 domains in May 2013 and peaked at 1,233,379 in April 2025. The curve has one obvious inflection. Between March and May 2020 detections went from 95,801 to 211,485, a 2.2x move in ten weeks that matches the lockdown surge into online checkout almost exactly. After that it compounded steadily until early 2025. The July 2025 to June 2026 gap in the chart is our own engine changeover, not a market event, and I'd rather show the gap than interpolate across it.
"A payment mark isn't adopted, it's rendered. Visa's detection curve tracks the growth of hosted storefronts far more closely than it tracks anything Visa's sales team did." - Mehmet Suleyman, Founder at TechnologyChecker.io
Sales Signal: This is a growing but saturated surface. Nearly every new hosted storefront ships with card marks already in the footer, so treat Visa presence as a proxy for "this domain sells something online" rather than as a buying signal for payments products. Its real value in prospecting is as a filter, not a target.
Customer profile
The size distribution is lopsided in a way that's genuinely informative. 78.8% of enriched companies have 1-10 employees, and just 76 of 171,126 land in the 10,001+ bracket. Pair that with the age data, where 74.1% were founded in the 2010s or 2020s, and the archetype is a digital-native micro-merchant. The enterprise names in our top-50 list are real but deceptive: Four Seasons appears via shop.fourseasons.com, BBC via shop.bbc.com, US Soccer via store.ussoccer.com. These are merchandise subdomains, not corporate payment infrastructure. Visa publishes case studies, but they cover Visa Direct and Visa Acceptance Solutions, which are different products from the acceptance mark this page tracks, so I've deliberately not cross-referenced them as customer proof.
Sales Signal: Filter for the 1-10 employee band and you get the independent DTC operator who buys self-serve, not through procurement. The 10,001+ rows are worth manually checking before outreach, because in this dataset a Fortune 500 logo usually means a gift shop.
Industry and geographic concentration
Retail leads at 19.25%, with Retail Apparel and Fashion at 10.15%. Add luxury goods, personal care and sporting goods and consumer retail reaches 38.7% of the top ten verticals. Geographically the United States holds 72,387 companies, 40.3% of the 179,595 with a known country, and the six English-speaking markets in our top 15 combine for 128,499, roughly 72%. Germany (8,788) and France (5,820) are the largest non-English markets. Brazil is worth flagging: it sits 15th here at 1,504 companies, while on our Mastercard profile it ranks 3rd. That divergence is a detection artifact worth knowing about before anyone builds a regional forecast on it.
Sales Signal: Germany, France, Italy and Spain together hold 22,452 detected companies with far less local-wallet saturation than the English-speaking core. For anyone selling checkout localisation, tax handling or multi-currency tooling, that's the underserved segment in this dataset.
Migration patterns
Since March 2026 we've observed 65,474 domains drop Visa. Where they went matters less than it looks. The top outbound flows are PayPal at 12,896, Apple Pay at 12,286 and Shop Pay at 12,043, but a store adding a wallet badge and dropping a card badge hasn't switched processors, it has changed what its footer renders. The number I trust most is the Visa to Mastercard corridor: 892 out, 905 in, effectively a wash. Two networks that genuinely competed for the same slot would not produce a 1.01:1 ratio.
"When two competitors show a 1:1 migration ratio across 1,797 events, you're not watching a market share battle. You're watching one template get edited." - Mehmet Suleyman, Founder at TechnologyChecker.io
Sales Signal: Klarna Checkout sent us 4,420 domains, the single largest inbound flow, meaning those merchants dropped a BNPL checkout while keeping card acceptance. That's a real behavioural signal: a store retreating from buy-now-pay-later is often re-evaluating checkout costs, which makes it a live prospect for payments and conversion tooling.
Technology ecosystem
This is where the page earns its keep. Across a 100,000-domain sample, 99.58% of Visa-detecting sites also run Shopify. I've built a lot of these profiles and never seen an overlap that high. Google Analytics is a distant second at 48.5%, then Vue.js at 7.55% and React at 6.35%, both of which are largely Shopify theme internals rather than deliberate framework choices. WordPress registers 0.37% and WooCommerce 0.12%. Our Shopify migration analysis covers how that platform concentration builds up over time.
Sales Signal: Treat this segment as a Shopify list with a commerce filter applied. Anything that sells into WooCommerce or self-hosted stacks will find almost no addressable audience here. Anything Shopify-adjacent, apps, themes, 3PL, post-purchase, has 861,600 qualified domains.
What this detection actually measures
Visa has no G2 product matching what we detect. G2 lists Visa Direct, Visa Protect and Visa B2B Connect, none of them the checkout acceptance mark, so I've left the reviews section off rather than borrow sentiment from an unrelated tool. The honest framing: 874,207 counts storefronts displaying the Visa mark, while Visa's real merchant acceptance runs past 150 million locations worldwide. Our number is smaller by orders of magnitude and measures something different. Its value is the enrichment attached: 185,660 companies with size, industry, country and stack data.
Sales Signal: Never quote this customer count as Visa's merchant base in a pitch deck, because a prospect who knows the payments industry will catch it. Quote it as "874,207 online storefronts we can segment by size, vertical and tech stack," which is both accurate and the more useful claim.
Key takeaways
1. Position: #4 in Payment Processing at 10.91%, statistically tied with Mastercard at 565 domains apart. 2. Growth phase: mature and coupled to hosted-commerce growth, not to independent adoption. 3. Core archetype: a 1-10 employee DTC retailer founded after 2010, selling on Shopify from the US, UK or Australia. 4. Moat: default inclusion in checkout templates, which is also why the detection is near-universal within that population. 5. Vulnerability: wallets outrank it on our leaderboard, and outbound flows to PayPal, Apple Pay and Shop Pay each exceed 12,000 domains. 6. Data caveat: 99.58% Shopify overlap means every distribution on this page is a Shopify-merchant distribution first.
Sales applications
Outreach angle: "You're one of 4,420 stores that dropped Klarna Checkout in the last quarter while keeping card acceptance. Most teams we speak with do that after auditing checkout fees. Here's what the other 4,419 did next."
Targeting strategy: On TechnologyChecker.io, filter Visa detections to 11-50 employees to strip out the hobbyist long tail, then layer Germany, France, Italy or Spain to reach the 22,452 non-English-market merchants who need localisation. That's a far cleaner list than the raw 874,207.
Competitive angle: The 12,043 domains that moved to Shop Pay are consolidating on Shopify-native checkout. They're the least likely to buy third-party payments tooling and the most likely to buy Shopify-ecosystem apps. Segment them out or aim at them deliberately, but don't work them with the same message.

Why is everyone switching from Visa to Mastercard?
They aren't, at least not on the web. Our crawl recorded 892 domains dropping Visa while running Mastercard and 905 moving the other way since March 2026, effectively even. The two networks appear and disappear together because the same checkout template renders both acceptance marks, so neither is meaningfully taking share from the other online.
Is Visa or Mastercard more common on ecommerce sites?
Visa, but barely. TechnologyChecker.io detects Visa on 874,207 active domains against 873,642 for Mastercard, a gap of 565 sites out of nearly 900,000. In share terms that's 10.91% versus 10.9% of the payment processing category. For practical purposes the two are tied across the ecommerce web, and both marks usually appear together in the same checkout footer.
Is Visa the biggest payment processor?
Visa is the largest card network by payment volume, moving $14.2 trillion in fiscal 2025, but it isn't a processor in the merchant sense. It runs the VisaNet rails between issuing banks and acquirers. On our leaderboard of checkout detections it ranks 4th at 10.91%, behind PayPal, Apple Pay and Shop Pay.
How does Visa payment processing work?
A shopper's card details go from the merchant to an acquiring bank, which routes the authorisation request across VisaNet to the issuing bank. The issuer approves or declines in roughly a second, then funds settle later in batches. Visa never holds the money or the merchant relationship, it operates the network in between.
What kind of businesses display the Visa acceptance mark online?
Overwhelmingly small direct-to-consumer retailers. Our enrichment across 171,126 companies shows 78.8% have 1-10 employees, and 74.1% were founded in the 2010s or later. Retail leads at 19.25% of verticals, with apparel and fashion adding another 10.15%. Only 76 detected companies employ more than 10,000 people, and the large brands that do appear usually surface on a merchandise subdomain.
Why do so many Visa detections run on Shopify?
Because Shopify renders card acceptance marks in its checkout and footer by default. Across a 100,000-domain sample, 99.58% of sites where we detect Visa also run Shopify. That makes our Visa figures a view of hosted storefronts rather than a census of merchants accepting Visa, which numbers well over 150 million locations.
Can I use the Visa logo on my website?
Only if you accept Visa, and only per Visa's brand rules. The mark is a registered trademark, and Visa's product brand standards specify approved artwork, minimum clear space and minimum size. Merchants normally get compliant assets from their payment provider or checkout platform rather than downloading a logo file from the web.
What replaced Visa Checkout?
Click to Pay replaced it. Visa retired the standalone Visa Checkout wallet and folded the experience into Click to Pay, the EMVCo-standard checkout that Visa, Mastercard, American Express and Discover share. We still track Visa Checkout separately as a legacy technology, though its detections are a fraction of the main Visa acceptance mark.
Are Visa and Mastercard owned by the same company?
No. Both are independent, publicly traded firms: Visa Inc. trades as V and Mastercard Incorporated as MA. Neither issues cards or lends money. Your bank does that, then badges the card with whichever network it partners with. Our detection data shows the two appearing together on most checkout pages regardless.
Which industries most often show Visa at checkout?
Retail dominates at 19.25% of the 141,772 companies where we have an industry, followed by Retail Apparel and Fashion at 10.15%. Counting luxury goods, personal care and sporting goods alongside them, consumer retail accounts for 38.7% of the top ten verticals. Wellness and food services follow at 2.9% and 3.62%.
How many countries show Visa acceptance on their websites?
Our enriched data covers Visa detections across 194 countries. The United States leads with 72,387 companies, 40.3% of the 179,595 with a confirmed location, then the United Kingdom at 24,113 and Australia at 14,530. Germany and France lead the non-English markets at 8,788 and 5,820. The concentration reflects where hosted commerce platforms are strongest, not Visa's actual acceptance geography.
Does dropping the Visa mark mean a store stopped accepting Visa?
Usually not. Our crawl has watched 65,474 domains drop the Visa mark since March 2026, but most of those stores still take Visa cards. Checkout redesigns, wallet-first layouts and theme updates all remove the badge without changing what the merchant accepts. Treat it as a display change, not a payments change.
What do Visa-accepting stores use for analytics?
Google Analytics, by a wide margin. It appears on 48.5% of the domains in our 100,000-site sample. Cloudflare Browser Insights follows at 1.64% and Snowplow at 0.61%, while Matomo, Statcounter and Plausible together account for under 0.3%. The steep drop-off after Google reflects a merchant base of small stores that rarely run a second analytics tool.
Is Visa still relevant for online checkout in 2026?
Yes, though wallets now outrank it on detection volume. PayPal (19.25%), Apple Pay (15.56%) and Shop Pay (14.7%) all sit above Visa's 10.91% in our payment processing category. Those wallets typically run on card rails underneath, so Visa remains present in the transaction even when its mark isn't the one displayed.
