Companies Using Imperva

Imperva sits in front of 28,846 active domains as a cloud web application firewall and DDoS shield, which places it third in the WAF & DDoS Protection category on a 12.01% share. The companies using Imperva skew hard toward regulated industries: insurance, financial services and banking together account for 15.13% of the enriched base, and the named accounts include PepsiCo, Vodafone, Banco Santander, Standard Chartered, ANZ and BAE Systems. That profile is unusual for this category. The two technologies ranked above Imperva by raw domain count, Sucuri and DDoS-Guard, protect very large volumes of small sites. Imperva's base is split instead: 58.11% of enriched companies have fewer than 50 staff, a tail inherited from its self-serve cloud tier, while 12.17% employ more than 1,000. This page breaks down the websites using Imperva by company size, country, industry and co-installed technology, so you can filter the part of that base you actually sell to.

Imperva Usage Statistics

Our current records place Imperva on 28,846 active domains in August 2026, up from 26,640 in June. We show the months we can measure on a consistent basis rather than stretching the line further back than the data supports. Treat this as a trend rather than a same-domain comparison: the set of domains we crawl turns over every month, with dead sites dropping out and newly discovered ones added, and our detection signals widen over time.

List of Companies Using Imperva

Our verified list of companies using Imperva on TechnologyChecker.io covers brands that use Imperva across finance, telecoms, retail, aviation and government, from PepsiCo and Vodafone through to Standard Chartered, United Airlines and BAE Systems. Many of the websites using Imperva in this database are specific subdomains rather than whole estates, because security teams typically put the WAF in front of the properties that take logins and payments first.

Imperva Market Share Among WAF & DDoS Protection

What is Imperva's market share? Imperva holds a 12.01% share of the WAF & DDoS Protection market, ranking #3 behind Sucuri (38.49%) and DDoS-Guard (37.79%), based on our monthly crawl of 50M+ domains and 40K+ tracked technologies at TechnologyChecker.io. Both leaders concentrate on small-site protection, so a rank built on domain count understates where Imperva actually competes.

Imperva Customers by Company Size & Age

Is Imperva only for large enterprises? No, and the spread is wider than the category would suggest. 58.11% of Imperva customers have fewer than 50 employees, across our analysis of 15,860 enriched companies with a size on record, which reflects the self-serve cloud tier it has sold since the Incapsula years. At the other end, 12.17% employ more than 1,000 people, and that is where the banks, insurers and airlines in the company list sit.

What Industries Use Imperva the Most?

Insurance is the dominant industry at 6.92%, followed by Financial Services (5.54%) and Retail (3.14%). The long tail matters here, because no single industry exceeds 7%, which makes Imperva horizontal infrastructure rather than a vertical product. Group the regulated finance verticals together, though, and insurance, financial services and banking reach 15.13% combined, based on our enriched company data at TechnologyChecker.io.

Hospitality436 (2.96%)
IT Services and IT Consulting396 (2.69%)
Banking393 (2.67%)

Insurance brands using Imperva form the largest single vertical at 6.92%, with Generali, Zurich, Aegon and Arthur J. Gallagher all detected in our crawl. Banking companies on Imperva add a further 2.67%, including Banco Santander, Standard Chartered, ANZ and Bank Rakyat Indonesia. Government bodies using Imperva such as the State of Sao Paulo and the State of California show the same platform running on public-sector estates, based on our enriched company data.

Imperva Alternatives & Competitors

Imperva competes on a different axis from the two technologies ranked above it, based on our market share data across 50M+ crawled domains. Sucuri (38.49%) and DDoS-Guard (37.79%) hold 76.28% of the category between them by domain count, and both concentrate on small-site protection. Akamai Web Application Protector (5.63%) is the closest match to Imperva's enterprise position, at under half its footprint.

Imperva Customer Migration

Over the last 30 days, 219 domains dropped Imperva and now run Cloudflare, against 56 moving the other way, a 3.9:1 loss ratio. Across the full period we have observed, the totals are 669 out and 105 in. One caveat belongs with that number: Cloudflare and Imperva run together on 3,917 domains in our data, so a share of these transitions is a CDN moving in front of an origin-side deployment rather than a replacement.

Expert Analysis: Imperva Growth Trends & Key Signals for Sales Teams in 2026

David Thomson
David ThomsonCTO, TechnologyChecker

I'm David Thomson, CTO at TechnologyChecker.io. I've spent fifteen years building crawling and detection infrastructure, five of them on Google's Search team working on large-scale crawling and indexing. This analysis covers 28,846 active Imperva domains from our August 2026 crawl, 17,028 of which matched to a company record. Imperva is one of the more dependable technologies in our index, for a reason worth stating up front: it identifies itself in the HTTP response headers of every site it fronts, so detection never depends on a script executing or a consent banner being accepted. Across the domains where Imperva is present, we detect it on effectively every scan.

Growth trajectory

Imperva sat on 26,640 domains in June 2026 and 28,846 in August. I would not read an annual growth rate into three months, and I would rather say so than draw a longer line than the measurement supports. What the figure does settle is scale: Imperva holds 12.01% of WAF & DDoS Protection, third behind Sucuri (38.49%) and DDoS-Guard (37.79%). Those two protect enormous volumes of small sites. Imperva's footprint is roughly a third of theirs by domain and worth a great deal more per domain, which is the first thing to understand about this category.

"Counting domains puts Imperva third in its category. Counting the companies behind those domains puts it first. In WAF, the leaderboard you choose decides the answer you get." - David Thomson, CTO at TechnologyChecker.io

Sales Signal: Do not size this market on domain count. The addressable value sits in the 12.17% of Imperva accounts with over 1,000 staff, roughly 1,900 enriched companies, and those are the accounts already paying for edge security rather than evaluating whether they need it.

Customer profile

The size distribution is genuinely bimodal, and that is the most useful thing on this page. 58.11% of enriched Imperva companies have fewer than 50 employees, a long tail inherited from the self-serve cloud tier that began life as Incapsula, founded in 2009 by Gur Shatz and Marc Gaffan and folded fully into Imperva in 2014. Yet 12.17% employ more than 1,000 people and 3.17% are over 10,000. The age data splits the same way: 22.75% were founded in the 2010s while 18.70% predate 1960. Imperva sells to digital-native businesses and to institutions older than the web, and almost nothing about the two groups is alike.

Checking the fifty largest deployments directly, we confirmed live Imperva headers on nineteen of twenty sampled, including PepsiCo, Vodafone, Banco Santander, United Airlines, Thales, Baker Hughes and Johnson Controls. Ten of the fifty returned a 403 to an automated request, which is the product doing precisely what it was bought to do.

Sales Signal: Treat these as two lists, not one. The sub-50-staff segment buys self-serve and churns on price. The 1,000-plus segment buys through procurement, renews on multi-year terms, and is where migration services and compliance tooling actually sell.

Industry and geographic concentration

No single industry exceeds 7%, so Imperva is horizontal infrastructure. Cluster the regulated verticals, though, and the picture sharpens: insurance (6.92%), financial services (5.54%) and banking (2.67%) reach 15.13% combined, the clearest vertical signal in the data. Geographically the base is less US-centred than most enterprise software we track, at 42.87% United States against 10.22% United Kingdom and 5.37% Australia. Spain at 3.73% ranks ahead of both France and Germany, carried by Santander, Asisa and a cluster of Spanish-language properties across Latin America.

Sales Signal: The regulated-finance cluster is the warmest segment on this page, because PCI DSS and DORA make a WAF a compliance line item rather than a discretionary purchase. Spain and Latin America look under-served relative to their share and are worth a localized motion.

Migration patterns

One corridor dominates, and it runs to a technology that is not even in this category. Over the last 30 days 219 domains left Imperva for Cloudflare while 56 arrived from it, a 3.9:1 loss ratio. Across the full observation period the totals are 669 out and 105 in. Every other competitor is rounding error by comparison: SiteLock accounts for 109 departures, Akamai for 30.

That number needs one honest qualification. Cloudflare and Imperva run together on 3,917 domains in our data, 12.98% of the base, and we confirmed a live example on Vodafone's careers site returning Cloudflare and Imperva headers on the same response. Because we observe what the edge returns, a CDN placed in front of an origin-side WAF can look like a departure when the WAF is still there. The direction of travel is real; the magnitude is an upper bound.

"Imperva loses roughly four domains to Cloudflare for every one it wins back. But the two run together on nearly 13% of Imperva's base, so read that ratio as a ceiling, not a headcount." - David Thomson, CTO at TechnologyChecker.io

Sales Signal: This is a two-sided opportunity. Departing accounts are actively re-evaluating edge security and are open to migration and WAF-tuning services. Accounts running both are candidates for consolidation, and they have already shown budget for two vendors.

Technology ecosystem

The co-installed stack confirms the enterprise read. OneTrust appears on 16.68% of Imperva domains against 2.33% for the SMB-oriented CookieYes, a seven-to-one split that tracks procurement maturity more reliably than company size does. Google Tag Manager runs on 67.55%. The interesting gap is bot protection: reCAPTCHA sits on 16.07% of Imperva sites while Imperva's own advanced bot tier is far less visible, which means a sizeable share of the base is paying Imperva for the WAF and handling bots with a free Google product. Our bot traffic research puts automated traffic at 34.9% of all requests, so that gap is not a small one.

Sales Signal: The reCAPTCHA overlap is the clearest upsell in the dataset. Roughly 4,850 domains already trust Imperva at the edge yet run a free CAPTCHA for bot defence, and they are the shortest path to an expansion conversation.

G2 review signals

G2 reviewers rate Imperva highest for blocking external attacks, and the top four pros all restate that single strength rather than naming separate features. The criticism is more informative: configuration complexity and false positives tie as the leading complaints. Our crawl data corroborates both. The 3.9:1 migration ratio toward Cloudflare runs in exactly the direction that a complexity complaint predicts, since Cloudflare's entire proposition is that the edge should be simple to operate. And the false-positive criticism is the same behaviour that returned 403s on ten of the fifty largest deployments we checked. Imperva's strongest review and its weakest review describe the same product decision.

Sales Signal: Lead with operational cost, not protection quality. Nobody is leaving Imperva because it fails to block attacks. They are leaving because tuning it is work.

Key takeaways

1. Rank is misleading. Third by domain count, but the two above it protect small sites at volume.
2. The base is bimodal, 58.11% under 50 staff and 12.17% over 1,000, and the two halves buy differently.
3. Regulated finance is the core vertical at 15.13% combined.
4. Cloudflare is the only meaningful competitive threat, at 3.9:1 against, though partly overstated by chaining.
5. The moat is compliance; the vulnerability is operational complexity, which is what reviewers and migration data both say.
6. Bot protection is the open upsell, with reCAPTCHA on 16.07% of the base.

Sales applications

Outreach angle: "You're running Imperva at the edge and reCAPTCHA for bots. We see that split on about 4,850 domains, and it usually means bot policy grew separately from the WAF." Targeting: filter this list on TechnologyChecker.io for 1,000-plus employees in insurance, banking and financial services, then intersect with OneTrust to isolate accounts with a formal compliance function. Competitive angle: the 219 domains that moved to Cloudflare in the last 30 days are mid-migration and are the most reachable accounts on this page.

Every figure above comes from our own crawl and enrichment: 28,846 active Imperva domains and 17,028 enriched companies. Filter the list above by size, country and industry, or compare it against the rest of the WAF & DDoS Protection category on TechnologyChecker.io.

What is Imperva used for?

Imperva is a cloud web application firewall and DDoS protection service that sits in front of a website and filters traffic before it reaches the origin server. Our crawl detects it on 28,846 active domains, concentrated in insurance, banking and financial services. It also blocks bots, protects APIs and shields against common application attacks like SQL injection.

Why is Imperva blocking me?

Imperva inspects every request and challenges anything that looks automated, so VPNs, unusual browsers, rapid page loads and script-driven requests can all trigger a block. When we requested the fifty largest Imperva-protected sites in our index, ten returned a 403. False positives are also the joint most common complaint in Imperva's G2 reviews.

How do I get past an Imperva block page?

If you are a legitimate visitor, disable your VPN or proxy, switch to a mainstream browser with JavaScript enabled, clear cookies and retry. Imperva stores a visid_incap session cookie, so a stale one can cause repeat challenges. If it persists, contact the site owner, since only they can adjust their own Imperva rules.

Is Imperva a legitimate company?

Yes. Imperva is an established cybersecurity vendor and has been owned by the French defence and technology group Thales since the acquisition completed on 9 January 2024 for roughly 3.6 billion dollars. Our data detects Imperva on Thales's own website, along with PepsiCo, Vodafone, Banco Santander, Standard Chartered and BAE Systems.

Who acquired Imperva?

Thales acquired Imperva from private equity firm Thoma Bravo in a deal worth about 3.6 billion dollars. It was announced in July 2023 and completed on 9 January 2024, with Imperva merging into the Thales Cloud Security business. TechnologyChecker.io detects Imperva running on thalesgroup.com, so the parent company uses the product.

Is Imperva the same as Incapsula?

Effectively yes. Incapsula was founded in 2009 by Gur Shatz and Marc Gaffan, spun out of Imperva, and fully absorbed in 2014. The Incapsula name was retired in favour of Imperva branding, but the technical fingerprints remain: protected sites still set visid_incap cookies and load resources from an Incapsula path.

How can I tell if a website uses Imperva?

Check the HTTP response headers. Imperva-protected sites return an x-cdn header set to Imperva or Incapsula, plus an x-iinfo debug header, and they set a visid_incap session cookie. Because these appear on the response itself rather than in page scripts, detection is reliable and does not depend on JavaScript running.

Who are Imperva's competitors?

Within our WAF and DDoS Protection category, Sucuri leads on 38.49% of domains and DDoS-Guard on 37.79%, though both focus on protecting small sites at volume. Akamai Web Application Protector at 5.63% is the closest enterprise equivalent. In practice Imperva's most significant rival is Cloudflare, which our category classifies under CDN.

Do companies switch from Imperva to Cloudflare?

Yes, and it is the only large migration corridor in our data. Over the last 30 days 219 domains left Imperva and now run Cloudflare, against 56 arriving from it. One caveat matters: the two technologies co-exist on 3,917 domains, so some apparent departures are a CDN placed in front of an unchanged Imperva deployment.

Can you run Imperva and Cloudflare together?

Yes, and many organisations do. Our crawl finds both on 3,917 domains, which is 12.98% of Imperva's base. Vodafone's careers site returns Cloudflare and Imperva headers on the same response. Chaining is normally a CDN in front of an origin-side firewall, though it means paying two vendors for overlapping edge coverage.

Do banks and insurers use Imperva?

Heavily. Insurance is Imperva's single largest vertical at 6.92% of enriched companies, with financial services at 5.54% and banking at 2.67%, so regulated finance accounts for 15.13% combined on TechnologyChecker.io. Named detections include Banco Santander, Standard Chartered, ANZ, Bank Rakyat Indonesia, Generali, Zurich and Aegon. That concentration tracks compliance obligations such as PCI DSS more than vendor preference.

Is Imperva used by government agencies?

Yes. Government Administration is the ninth largest industry in our enriched Imperva data at 1.85%. Detected public-sector deployments include the State of Sao Paulo in Brazil and the State of California, alongside a number of universities. Government agencies account for 4.21% of Imperva customers by company type in our records.

Is Imperva suitable for small businesses?

It is used by many, though the fit depends on your appetite for configuration. 58.11% of enriched Imperva companies have fewer than 50 employees, a legacy of the self-serve cloud tier. That said, configuration complexity is the joint top criticism in its G2 reviews, and smaller teams tend to feel that most.

What technologies do Imperva customers typically run alongside it?

Google Tag Manager appears on 67.55% of Imperva domains and OneTrust on 16.68%, against just 2.33% for the smaller-business CookieYes, which signals an enterprise buyer. Notably reCAPTCHA runs on 16.07%, meaning a sizeable share of the base pays Imperva for the firewall while handling bot traffic with a free Google product.
