Cloudflare Turnstile Usage Statistics
Is Cloudflare Turnstile growing or declining? Growing, and it is the clearest growth story in the category. Our coverage changed part-way through this chart, so read the step carefully. The series through July 2025 comes from a historical detection feed: Turnstile appears as a single domain in October 2022, sits at 80 domains through September 2023, then jumps to 4,169 in October 2023 as Turnstile reached general availability, and climbs steadily to a peak of 49,749 in June 2025. The 2026 points come from our current crawl, which finds 187,176 domains. Part of that step is genuine growth over the intervening year and part is coverage: Turnstile is identified from a JavaScript global that only appears once a page executes, so a crawler that reads raw HTML sees a fraction of the real deployments. Within our own measurement the trend is unambiguous, 137,332 domains in June 2026 rising to 187,176 in August.

Which Countries Use Cloudflare Turnstile the Most?
Which countries use Cloudflare Turnstile the most? Turnstile has the most international footprint in this category, reaching 208 countries. The United States leads with only 32.2% of enriched customers, well below the 63.5% concentration we see on Akamai Bot Manager, followed by the United Kingdom (9.3%), Germany (5.7%), France (5.0%), the Netherlands (4.6%), Australia (4.4%), Canada (4.2%) and Spain (3.2%). English-speaking markets account for just 50.1% of the base. Western Europe is disproportionately represented relative to its share of the web, which is consistent with GDPR pressure pushing sites away from CAPTCHA products that send visitor data to a US advertising company.
Share of the 126,517 Cloudflare Turnstile domains we matched to a company record — 67.6% of the 187,176 we detect. Top 15 countries shown, so these do not sum to 100%. Domains with no matching company record are not represented here and skew small and independent.
Cloudflare Turnstile Market Share Among Bot Detection & CAPTCHA
What is Cloudflare Turnstile's market share? Turnstile holds a 3.68% share of the bot detection and CAPTCHA market, ranking #3 of the 32 products we track, behind reCAPTCHA (65.26%) and Cloudflare Bot Management (26.04%) and just ahead of hCaptcha (3.44%), per our crawl of 28.2M domains. Share understates the momentum. reCAPTCHA's 65% is fifteen years of default-choice inertia, while Turnstile reached third place in under three years of general availability, and it is the only product in the category taking domains from reCAPTCHA at scale. Being free helps, and so does the fact that 63.46% of its domains already sit behind Cloudflare, where enabling it is close to frictionless.

Cloudflare Turnstile Customers by Company Size & Age
Is Cloudflare Turnstile only for large enterprises? It is close to the opposite. 59.6% of Turnstile companies have 1-10 employees and 85.9% have 50 or fewer, while only 0.18% employ more than 10,000. That is the signature of a free product with a one-line install: Cloudflare made Managed mode free for unlimited use in September 2023, and the adoption curve since then has been driven by small sites, agencies and side projects rather than procurement cycles. Large organisations do use it, the University of California and Carrefour among them, but they are the exception in this base rather than the rule.

What Industries Use Cloudflare Turnstile the Most?
What industries use Cloudflare Turnstile? The spread is genuinely horizontal, more so than anything else in this category: no industry exceeds 5.2%. Real Estate leads at 5.11%, followed by IT Services and IT Consulting (4.74%), Construction (4.19%), Software Development (4.1%), Advertising Services (3.3%) and Business Consulting (3.08%). That flatness is what you would expect from a free tool solving a universal problem. The one pattern worth noting is that the leaders are all form-heavy businesses, real estate listings, construction quotes and agency contact pages are exactly the endpoints spam bots target.
Which industries use Cloudflare Turnstile the most? Real estate businesses using Cloudflare Turnstile form the largest single vertical at 5.11%, protecting enquiry and valuation forms that attract heavy automated submission. IT and technology companies on Turnstile (4.74% in IT Services, 4.1% in Software Development, 3.05% in Technology and Internet) are the natural early adopters of a developer-first tool, and companies like Computacenter, Keysight and Renesas Electronics appear in the detected set. Construction firms using Turnstile account for 4.19%, a vertical that rarely leads any technology ranking and does so here because quote request forms are cheap to spam. Public bodies are also well represented, from the State of Ohio to NOAA.
Cloudflare Turnstile Alternatives & Competitors
Who are Cloudflare Turnstile's biggest competitors? reCAPTCHA (65.26%) is the incumbent and the source of most of Turnstile's growth, per our market share data across 28.2M crawled domains. Cloudflare Bot Management (26.04%) is a stablemate rather than a rival, the enterprise edge product Cloudflare sells to customers who need more than a challenge widget. hCaptcha (3.44%) is the closest direct competitor and the most similar pitch, privacy-first verification without Google, but the two barely trade domains: 257 moved to Turnstile and 160 the other way. Akamai Bot Manager (0.48%) sells to a different buyer entirely. Turnstile's edge is that it is free, does not require Cloudflare's CDN, and sends no visitor data to an advertising company.

Cloudflare Turnstile Customer Migration
Are companies switching to or away from Cloudflare Turnstile? The migration data is emphatic. Since we began tracking in March 2026, 10,512 domains have arrived against 3,572 lost, a net gain of 6,940 and the strongest in the category. Almost all of it is one corridor: 9,451 domains moved from reCAPTCHA to Turnstile versus 2,011 returning, a 4.7:1 ratio, and 5,374 of those arrivals landed in the last 30 days alone. No other product in this category takes domains from reCAPTCHA at anything like that rate. The one real outflow runs to Cloudflare Bot Management (759 gained, 1,364 lost), which reads as customers upgrading within Cloudflare's own range rather than leaving. Against hCaptcha, the nearest direct competitor, the flow is small and slightly in Turnstile's favour at 257 to 160.

Tech Stack of Cloudflare Turnstile-Powered Websites
What technologies do Cloudflare Turnstile customers use alongside it? Cloudflare's CDN sits under 63.46% of Turnstile domains, confirming that most adopters were already Cloudflare customers for whom switching on Turnstile is a dashboard toggle. WordPress follows at 48.17%, and the form plugins underneath it tell you what Turnstile is actually protecting: Contact Form 7 on 25.51%, Gravity Forms on 4.86%, WPForms on 2.42%. This is overwhelmingly a contact-form and login-form product, not a checkout one, and the ecommerce numbers bear that out, with WooCommerce at 10.49% and Shopify at just 0.72%. One finding worth flagging: reCAPTCHA still runs on 12.9% of Turnstile domains, so roughly one site in eight is running both, which usually means a migration that was started and never finished.

- Users praise the easy implementation — simple JavaScript snippet with straightforward API integration.
- Users note the built-in analytics dashboard for tracking solved vs unsolved and interactive vs non-interactive solves.
- Users report VPN and proxy blocking — device fingerprinting flags legitimate VPN users as suspicious.

- Users flag the steep pricing jump — from free tier directly to $2,000/month enterprise with no mid-tier option.
- Users mention limited customization — fewer styling and behavior options compared to other CAPTCHA solutions.
- Users note accessibility issues — users with atypical browser signals or locked-down enterprise policies may face infinite spinning.
Expert Analysis: Cloudflare Turnstile Growth Trends & Key Signals for Sales Teams in 2026

Over the past several years of analysing web technology data, I've watched Cloudflare Turnstile evolve in ways the headline numbers don't capture. Two things changed since I last wrote this page: we widened the detection behind these figures, and the customer profile that emerged is close to the opposite of what I described before.
1. Growth Trajectory: From One Domain to 187K in Under Four Years
Turnstile's curve is the steepest we track in this category. The first domain appeared in October 2022, shortly after Cloudflare's Birthday Week beta. Adoption then sat under 100 domains for nearly a year until the September 2023 general availability launch, when the count went from 80 domains in September to 4,169 in October 2023, a 52x jump in a single month. Our earlier records took it to a peak of 49,749 domains in June 2025.
Our current crawl now puts Turnstile at 187,176 domains, up from 137,332 in June 2026. Some of that gap is a year of real growth, but a good part of it is measurement. Turnstile is identified from a JavaScript global that only exists once the page runs, so any crawler reading raw HTML undercounts it badly. That is the same property that made Akamai Bot Manager look five times larger in our earlier records than it does now, working in the opposite direction.
Sales Signal: Growth is still running but decelerating: our own series went 137,332 to 181,592 to 187,176 across June, July and August 2026. Even in the slowest of those months, 5,374 arrivals came directly from reCAPTCHA. These are active decision-makers who changed a security control recently, which is the best possible timing for an adjacent conversation.
2. Customer Profile: Small, Young, and Global
I described this base as enterprise-heavy before. The enriched data says otherwise, and the correction matters for anyone prospecting from it. 59.6% of Turnstile companies have 1-10 employees and 85.9% have 50 or fewer. Only 0.18% employ more than 10,000, against 6.9% for Akamai Bot Manager. What misled me earlier was reading the notable-companies list as if it were the distribution; it is the tail, not the shape.
Company age reinforces it. 37.27% were founded in the 2010s and 21.64% in the 2020s, so roughly 59% are under 16 years old, and only 4.07% predate 1960. By company type, 56.55% are privately held and just 9.77% are public.
This is what a free product with a one-line install looks like once you measure it properly: overwhelmingly small, young, independent businesses. Large organisations are present, the University of California, Carrefour, GE Healthcare, TransUnion, Cedars-Sinai, the State of Ohio, but they are the exception.
Sales Signal: Do not sell this list like an enterprise list. The volume is in small businesses and agencies buying on price and ease, where the winning motion is self-serve and low-touch. If you need enterprise accounts in bot protection, Akamai Bot Manager and Cloudflare Bot Management are where they are concentrated; Turnstile's 0.18% enterprise band is 208 companies.
3. Industry and Geographic Concentration
Turnstile is the most horizontal product in the category, and unusually so: no industry exceeds 5.2%. Real Estate leads at 5.11%, then IT Services and IT Consulting (4.74%), Construction (4.19%), Software Development (4.1%), Advertising Services (3.3%), Business Consulting (3.08%), Technology and Internet (3.05%) and Retail (2.93%).
Look at what the leaders have in common and the pattern is not industry at all, it is forms. Real estate enquiries, construction quote requests and agency contact pages are the highest-value spam targets on the small-business web, and they are exactly what a free challenge widget is bought to protect.
Geographically this is the most international base we track in the category, spanning 208 countries. The United States accounts for only 32.2% of enriched companies, against 63.5% for Akamai Bot Manager, followed by the United Kingdom (9.3%), Germany (5.7%), France (5.0%), the Netherlands (4.6%), Australia (4.4%), Canada (4.2%) and Spain (3.2%). English-speaking markets are just 50.1% of the base.
Sales Signal: Western Europe is over-represented here relative to its share of the web, and that is the most actionable geographic fact on this page. A German or Dutch small business choosing Turnstile over reCAPTCHA is usually making a data-protection decision, not a performance one, so compliance-led messaging lands where feature comparisons do not.
4. Migration Patterns: Turnstile Is the Category's Net Winner
Since tracking began in March 2026 we have observed 10,512 domains arrive and 3,572 leave, a net gain of 6,940 and the largest in the category by a wide margin. Nearly all of it is a single corridor: 9,451 domains moved from reCAPTCHA against 2,011 going back, a 4.7:1 ratio, with 5,374 arriving in the last 30 days. Nothing else in this category takes ground from reCAPTCHA at that rate.
The one meaningful outflow runs to Cloudflare Bot Management, 759 gained against 1,364 lost. I read that as movement up Cloudflare's own product range rather than a loss, since both ends are the same vendor and the destination is the paid enterprise tier.
Against hCaptcha, the nearest direct competitor and the product with the most similar pitch, the flow is surprisingly quiet: 257 gained, 160 lost. The two are not fighting over the same sites. They are both taking from Google, and Turnstile is taking far more.
Sales Signal: The reCAPTCHA-to-Turnstile corridor is the live event in this market, and it is dated and identifiable domain by domain. Sites that moved in the last 30 days have just revisited their bot-protection assumptions for the first time in years, which is when adjacent security, privacy and compliance tooling gets evaluated.
5. The Cloudflare Turnstile technology stack
Cloudflare's CDN sits under 63.46% of Turnstile domains, so most adopters were already customers for whom enabling it is a dashboard toggle. WordPress follows at 48.17%, and the plugins beneath it show what is actually being protected: Contact Form 7 at 25.51%, Gravity Forms at 4.86%, WPForms at 2.42%.
The ecommerce numbers confirm the same read from the other side. WooCommerce appears on 10.49% but Shopify on just 0.72%, because Shopify ships hCaptcha in its own checkout. Turnstile is a contact-form and login-form product, not a checkout one.
I previously reported that reCAPTCHA co-occurs on 49.8% of Turnstile sites and called it a mid-migration goldmine. On our own measurement the figure is 12.9%. The interpretation survives, roughly one site in eight is running both, which usually means a migration that stalled, but it is a much smaller segment than I claimed.
Sales Signal: The dual-running 12.9% is still the sharpest segment on this page, 25,591 domains carrying two challenge widgets on the same pages. That is measurable user friction and duplicated integration surface, and it is an easy opening for anyone selling consolidation, performance or migration work.
What Reviewers Say
I've cross-referenced our crawl data with user reviews across Capterra and developer forums, and the signals are clear. Users consistently praise frictionless verification and free pricing, which aligns with the adoption curve we track across more than 187,000 sites. The main pain points? VPN and proxy blocking flags legitimate users as suspicious, and reviewers report a lower bot detection rate than paid alternatives, meaning some automated traffic gets through. For teams evaluating Cloudflare Turnstile, those tradeoffs between user experience and security depth are worth weighing against alternatives like hCaptcha or reCAPTCHA.
Key Takeaways
Turnstile has gone from one domain to 187,176 in under four years and now ranks #3 in the category with a 3.68% share. Its base is small, young, privately held and globally distributed, not the enterprise roster the notable-companies list suggests: 85.9% of these companies have 50 or fewer employees and only 32.2% are in the United States.
The competitive fact that matters is the 4.7:1 gain ratio against reCAPTCHA. Cloudflare's advantage is that Turnstile is free, requires no CDN migration, installs in one line, and sends no visitor data to an advertising company, at a moment when that last point carries real weight in Europe. The constraint is the same as the advantage: a free product adopted by very small businesses is a large domain count attached to a small amount of revenue.
Sales Applications
Prospecting template: "Hi [Name], I noticed [Company] recently deployed Cloudflare Turnstile on [detected subdomain]. Based on our data at TechnologyChecker.io, about one in eight Turnstile sites still has reCAPTCHA running alongside it. Are you planning to fully migrate, or running both in parallel? We help companies like [similar company] simplify their security stack."
Targeting strategy: On TechnologyChecker.io, filter for companies running both Cloudflare Turnstile and reCAPTCHA. That 12.9% overlap, 25,591 domains, is carrying two challenge widgets at once and is the segment most open to consolidation. Weight your outreach toward Western Europe, where 50% of this base sits and where privacy compliance drives the decision.
Competitive angle: The 9,451 reCAPTCHA-to-Turnstile migrations since March 2026 are companies that just re-evaluated a control they had left alone for years. They respond well to concrete before-and-after comparisons on completion rates and page weight rather than feature matrices.

Is Cloudflare Turnstile better than reCAPTCHA?
For most small and medium businesses, Turnstile offers a better user experience and stronger privacy protections. It requires no visual puzzles, sends no data to Google, and runs invisibly in most cases. The migration data backs that up: since March 2026 we have watched 9,451 domains move from reCAPTCHA to Turnstile against 2,011 going the other way. Our data also shows 12.9% of Turnstile sites still run reCAPTCHA alongside it, so roughly one migration in eight is left half-finished. Performance and privacy favour Turnstile; community maturity and documentation still favour reCAPTCHA.
What's the difference between Cloudflare Challenge and Turnstile?
Cloudflare Challenge is a full-page, network-level security check that blocks access to an entire site with a 5-second wait or visual puzzle. Turnstile is a non-intrusive widget embedded within specific forms or page elements, designed for a smoother experience. The key difference: Turnstile can run on any website without routing traffic through Cloudflare's CDN, while Challenge requires Cloudflare's proxy.
What major companies use Cloudflare Turnstile?
Based on TechnologyChecker.io detection data, major companies include Siemens, UPS, Vodafone, JPMorgan Chase, IKEA, Roche, Shopify, Qualcomm, Comcast, Eli Lilly, Fujitsu, and UNICEF. How does Cloudflare Turnstile work?
Turnstile runs non-interactive browser challenges using JavaScript to verify visitors are human. It analyzes browser environment signals, mouse movements, and other behavioral data without requiring users to solve puzzles. The widget operates in three modes: Managed (automatically picks the least intrusive option), Non-Interactive (always shows the widget but never asks for input), or Invisible (runs entirely in the background). Server-side verification happens through a simple API call.

Is Cloudflare Turnstile GDPR compliant?
Cloudflare states Turnstile minimizes data collection, gathering only what's necessary to verify users. It doesn't use cookies for tracking or advertising and doesn't send personal data to third parties for ad targeting. That privacy-first approach is a major adoption driver, organizations like Siemens, Vodafone, and Mayo Clinic in our data at TechnologyChecker.io have adopted Turnstile partly for compliance reasons.
How many websites use Cloudflare Turnstile?
As of August 2026, TechnologyChecker.io detects 187,176 active domains using Cloudflare Turnstile, out of 215,009 domains where we have ever seen it, including 17,778 that have since dropped it. Third-party trackers report different totals, and the gap is mostly methodological: Turnstile exposes no HTML fingerprint and is only visible through a JavaScript global that appears once a page executes, so counts vary widely depending on whether a crawler runs the page or just reads its source. Our figure counts domains where that global was actually observed.
Can Cloudflare Turnstile be bypassed?
No bot-protection system is 100% bypass-proof, and some security researchers have documented partial bypass methods. Cloudflare continuously updates Turnstile's challenge mechanisms, their February 2026 blog post noted Turnstile widgets are served 7.67 billion times, giving them massive signal data to improve detection. Enterprise plans include additional protections and analytics for organizations that need higher assurance.
What industries use Cloudflare Turnstile the most?
Adoption spans a wide range: Telecommunications (Vodafone, Qualcomm, Comcast), Financial Services (JPMorgan Chase, Nationwide), Healthcare (Roche, Mayo Clinic, Johns Hopkins), IT Services (EPAM, Fujitsu), Retail (IKEA), and even Nonprofits (UNICEF), per our data at TechnologyChecker.io. The breadth confirms Turnstile is a horizontal security tool. Any organization handling sensitive user data is a potential adopter.
How fast is Cloudflare Turnstile growing?
Extremely fast, and it is still the fastest in this category. From its first detection in October 2022, Turnstile reached 4,169 active domains within a year of launch, and our crawler now detects 187,176. Within our own measurement the series runs 137,332 domains in June 2026 to 181,592 in July and 187,176 in August, so the pace is moderating from a very steep base. The clearest sign of momentum is not the raw count but the source of it: 9,451 domains have moved to Turnstile from reCAPTCHA since March 2026, more than four times the traffic in the opposite direction, and no other product in the category takes ground from Google at that rate.
Does Cloudflare Turnstile work without Cloudflare CDN?
Yes, unlike Cloudflare's Challenge Pages, which require traffic to route through Cloudflare's network, Turnstile can be embedded on any website using a simple JavaScript widget. You don't need a Cloudflare account for CDN, DNS, or proxy services. That independence partly explains its rapid adoption beyond Cloudflare's existing customer base.
What is Cloudflare Turnstile's invisible mode?
Invisible mode runs entirely in the background without showing any widget to the user. It collects browser signals and verifies humanity with zero user interaction. Managed mode may occasionally show a brief loading spinner, while Non-Interactive mode always shows the widget but never asks for input. Most deployments in our data use Managed mode, which automatically picks the least intrusive verification approach.
