Here's what the data reveals about Magento's market position, customer profile, and where the platform is headed.

1. Growth Trajectory

Magento's active domain count grew steadily from a single detection in late 2007 to a peak of 23,503 in December 2024. That's 17 years of continuous growth. But look closer: total domains (active + inactive) peaked at 105,413 in January 2018 and have dropped to around 26,000 by early 2025. The gap between active and total domains narrowed sharply, meaning fewer new sites adopted Magento while existing ones kept running.

The last two data points (January-February 2025) show active domains dipping below 23,500 for the first time since late 2024. Early signs of the active base contracting, not just the total.
