Companies Using Zammad
Our October 2026 crawl finds Zammad on 553 live domains. Zammad is an open-source helpdesk from Germany, and our rule looks for the script behind its embeddable contact form. That script also ships inside every Zammad installation, so most of what we count is the helpdesk itself: of the 528 domains that answered our check, 368 were a Zammad helpdesk, nearly all on a subdomain such as support., helpdesk. or ticket. Below is the list of companies that use Zammad, with size, country, industry and stack, including Faronics, RA-MICRO, the TYPO3 Company and the GIK Institute in Pakistan.
Zammad ranks 12th of the 49 technologies in our Help Desk category, with 0.3% of its domains. Its customers are small and German-speaking: Germany alone holds 146 of the 324 companies in our country table, and 60% of matched companies have 1 to 10 staff. Hosted customers on zammad.com addresses mostly fall outside a domain count, so read the 553 as a count of self-run installs and embedded forms.

Zammad Usage Statistics
The chart reads 217 domains in June 2026, 253 in July, 455 in August, 544 in September and 553 in October. The July to August step is on our side, not a burst of installs: the set of domains we crawl turns over every month, with dead sites dropping out and new ones added, and our detection reached more helpdesk subdomains over those months. Exits are small: 42 domains dropped Zammad since we began tracking it in March 2026, and 9 of those still run it on another hostname.

Which Countries Use Zammad the Most?
Which countries use Zammad the most? Germany, with 146 matched companies, then the United States (45), France (21), Switzerland (18) and Austria (15). Germany, Switzerland and Austria together hold 179 of the 324 companies in the country table, 55.25%. Zammad comes from the team behind OTRS, and the German-speaking market shows it, based on our enriched company data. Brazil (9) and India (8) are the largest markets outside Europe and North America.
Share of the 406 Zammad domains we matched to a company record — 73.4% of the 553 we detect. Top 15 countries shown, so these do not sum to 100%. Domains with no matching company record are not represented here and skew small and independent.
Zammad Market Share Among Help Desk
What is Zammad's market share? 0.3% of Help Desk, 12th of the 49 technologies in that category at TechnologyChecker.io, counting 553 domains. The table is led by a Statuspage row (142,413 domains) and by feedback widgets such as BugHerd (9,241). The like-for-like rival is osTicket, the other open-source ticketing system we track, with 1,337 domains, about 2.4 times Zammad's count.
Top Competitors by Market Share
Zammad Customers by Company Size & Age
What size companies use Zammad? Small ones. 60% of matched companies with a known size have 1 to 10 employees and 29.87% have 11 to 50, so nine in ten have 50 staff or fewer. Only 2 of the 385 companies with a known size have more than 1,000 staff. Self-hosting a free helpdesk suits an IT team that can run its own server, which is what most of these companies are.
Company Size Distribution
Company Age (Founded Decade)
The largest group of matched companies was founded in the 2010s (38.28%), then the 2000s (22.76%) and the 2020s (18.62%). Only 5.51% predate 1990. Older names on the list include Burman University (1907) and RA-MICRO, the Berlin software house (1977).
What Industries Use Zammad the Most?
IT Services and IT Consulting leads at 35.81%, followed by Software Development (10.88%), then Information Technology & Services and Technology, Information and Internet at 7.69% each, based on our enriched company data. Those four IT rows add up to 62.07% of matched companies. Zammad's buyers are mostly companies that support software or IT systems for their own customers.
IT service providers using Zammad include RA-MICRO, Planat and Gromnitza in Germany, Inventum in India and Cillco in Norway, each running its own helpdesk. Software companies on Zammad include Faronics, Decalog and the TYPO3 Company. Universities using Zammad include the GIK Institute in Pakistan, Burman University in Canada and Hochschule Anhalt in Germany.
Zammad Alternatives & Competitors
Only osTicket in this table is a like-for-like rival: an open-source ticketing system that companies run on their own servers, on 1,337 domains. Atlassian Statuspage publishes status pages, BugHerd is a feedback widget and Freshdesk is a hosted help desk. Zammad's founder built OTRS before it, and OTRS customers are a natural source of Zammad users. Overlap with hosted help desks is small: 10 Zammad domains also run Zendesk today, out of 15 ever seen with both.

Expert Analysis: Zammad Growth Trends & Key Signals for Sales Teams in 2026

Most technologies on our Help Desk table are detected on a company's main website. Zammad is detected on the helpdesk itself. Our rule looks for the script behind Zammad's embeddable contact form, and every Zammad installation loads that script on its own pages. So the October 2026 count of 553 live domains, 406 matched to a company, 12th of 49 in Help Desk, is mostly a census of companies running their own Zammad. That makes it unusually clean.
What the count is made of
We fetched all 573 domains behind this page's charts. 528 answered. 368 were a Zammad helpdesk, 352 of them on a subdomain: support. on 150, helpdesk. on 70, ticket. on 30, help. on 25. Another 122 embedded the contact form on a website: 69 send tickets to their own Zammad server, 18 to a hosted zammad.com account and 35 to another domain's Zammad. The last 38 loaded but showed no form script in the page source, so it is either added after the page loads or has been taken out.
Sales signal: a Zammad row usually points at a support subdomain, not a marketing site. The person to reach is whoever runs that server: an IT lead or support manager.
Whose account is it?
For feedback widgets this question cut thousands of domains. Here it cuts none. Zammad has no shared vendor account: every form posts to a specific Zammad server, and the largest one serves only five domains, all of them one Swedish drinks company's own. Regler Connect's server takes the form for the Regler Systems sites; Perfood runs one hosted account for four of its health-app sites. The 35 forms that post to another domain are mostly sister companies or small IT providers serving one client. No hosting company or agency accounts for more than 1% of the count.
Sales signal: every row is a separate decision. There's no platform or reseller to approach for many sites at once.
Does it still work?
A Zammad form asks its server for a token before a visitor can send anything, and the server says whether the form is switched on. We made that request for all 122 embedded forms. 102 were enabled. Twelve servers didn't answer, four returned server errors, two returned not found and two had the form switched off: 20 forms that would fail if a visitor tried them, 3.49% of the 573 domains behind the charts. The 368 helpdesks answered our fetch, so they are running. Running isn't the same as patched. In September attackers used two Zammad flaws to break into DIVD, the Dutch vulnerability-disclosure nonprofit, and on 2 October CISA added both (CVE-2026-102489 and CVE-2026-102490) to its list of exploited vulnerabilities. Zammad says the first only affects version 6.5 and older, which no longer get regular updates, and it released 7.2.1, 7.2.2 and an emergency 6.5.5 between 6 and 15 October.
"Zammad is one of the few technologies where we see the product itself rather than a tag. When our crawler finds it, it has usually found a company's helpdesk, running on its own server." - Elif Arslan, CMO & Co-founder at TechnologyChecker.io
Sales signal: more than eight in ten embedded forms work. A dead form is a support gap worth pointing out to the site owner.
Growth, read carefully
The chart reads 217 domains in June 2026, 253 in July, 455 in August, 544 in September and 553 in October. The August step is ours: the set of domains we crawl turns over every month, dead sites out and new ones in, and our detection reached more helpdesk subdomains. Only 42 domains dropped Zammad since March 2026, and 9 of those still run it elsewhere.
Sales signal: low churn suits a self-hosted tool. Once a company has installed its helpdesk, it tends to stay.
Who the customers are
60% of matched companies have 1 to 10 employees and 29.87% have 11 to 50; only 2 of 385 have more than 1,000 staff. Four IT industries hold 62.07%. These are managed-service providers, software houses and telecoms that support their own customers: RA-MICRO, Faronics, Decalog, the TYPO3 Company. Universities are the other group, with the GIK Institute, Burman University and Hochschule Anhalt. The public sector shows up too: Notruf NÖ, Lower Austria's emergency call service, runs its support desk on Zammad.
Sales signal: sell to small technical teams that value control and data residency. A hosted pitch from a US vendor has to answer the self-hosting question first.
German-speaking at the core
Germany has 146 matched companies, more than three times the United States' 45. With Switzerland (18) and Austria (15), the German-speaking countries hold 55.25% of the country table. The stack fits: TYPO3 (4.01%), Contao (2.27%) and Borlabs Cookie (3.14%) are German favourites, and Matomo runs on 12.22% while Google Analytics reaches only 34.03%.
Sales signal: for privacy, hosting and support tooling, this is a European, self-hosting audience. Lead with data location and open standards.
Alternatives and overlap
osTicket is the like-for-like rival, with 1,337 domains, about 2.4 times Zammad's count. Both are free to run on your own servers. Hosted help desks barely overlap: 10 Zammad domains run Zendesk today, out of 15 ever seen with both, and no switching pair passes our tests.
Sales signal: Zammad users chose to run their own system. Migration offers aimed at them should start from self-hosting, not replace it.
What it costs
Self-hosted Zammad is free under the GPL v3 licence. Hosted plans on zammad.com (15 October 2026) cost €7, €16 or €25 per agent a month billed yearly, and self-hosters can buy support packages from €2,999 a year. Trials run 30 days. AI features are optional and billed at €0.03 per call.
Sales signal: the self-hosters pay nothing for the software, so the commercial opening is around it: support contracts, managed hosting, backups and integrations. The 18 sites posting to a zammad.com account are the ones already paying Zammad directly.
Key takeaways
1. 553 live domains, mostly Zammad helpdesks on support subdomains.
2. No platform or agency account; the largest shared server covers five domains.
3. All 368 helpdesks answered, and 102 of 122 embedded forms are switched on.
4. Small, IT-heavy and German-speaking: 60% have 1 to 10 staff, 55.25% of our country table is in DACH countries.

Frequently Asked Questions
Who uses Zammad?
Mostly small IT and software companies in German-speaking Europe. Our crawl finds Zammad on 553 live domains; 62.07% of matched companies are in four IT industries, 60% have 1 to 10 staff, and Germany, Switzerland and Austria hold 55.25% of the companies in our country table. Named users include Faronics, RA-MICRO, the TYPO3 Company and the GIK Institute, mostly on a support subdomain.
How many customers does Zammad have?
Zammad's about page says more than 65,000 users. Our crawl finds Zammad on 553 live domains in October 2026, 406 matched to a company. Most are self-run installations on a support or helpdesk subdomain; hosted customers on zammad.com addresses collapse into one domain in our count, so the true number of organisations running Zammad is higher than 553.
What is Zammad's market share?
0.3% of the Help Desk category, 12th of 49 technologies, counting 553 domains. The category mixes status pages, feedback widgets and help desks, so the fair comparison is osTicket, the other open-source ticketing system we track, with 1,337 domains. Hosted help desks such as Zendesk and Freshdesk are larger still in our data.
What are the best alternatives to Zammad?
For a free, self-hosted helpdesk, osTicket is the closest match: 1,337 domains in our crawl to Zammad's 553. OTRS, created earlier by Zammad's founder, is the other name long-time users compare. If you would rather not run a server, Freshdesk and Zendesk are the hosted options most teams compare; only 10 Zammad domains also run Zendesk today, so few teams use both.
Which countries use Zammad the most?
Germany leads with 146 matched companies, then the United States (45), France (21), Switzerland (18) and Austria (15). Germany, Switzerland and Austria together hold 179 of the 324 companies in our country table, 55.25%. Outside Europe and North America, Brazil (9) and India (8) are the biggest markets, with Turkey, Pakistan and Nepal visible in the company list.
What size companies use Zammad?
Small ones. 60% of matched companies have 1 to 10 employees and 29.87% have 11 to 50, so nearly nine in ten have 50 staff or fewer. Only 2 of 385 companies with a known size have more than 1,000 staff. Zammad suits small IT teams that can run their own server, or buy the hosted plan from €7 per agent.
How old are companies that use Zammad?
Among the Zammad domains we could match to a company with a known founding date, the largest group was founded in the 2010s (38.28%), followed by the 2000s (22.76%). That matched subset is drawn from 406 companies and is not representative of all 553 detected domains. This suggests Zammad is most popular among relatively young companies.
What is the ideal customer profile for Zammad?
The ideal Zammad customer is: Company Size: 1-10 employees (60%), then 11-50, Location: Germany, then US, France, Switzerland, Austria, Industry: IT services and software (62.07%), Founded: 2010-2019 (38.28%), then the 2000s, Setup: Self-hosted helpdesk on a support subdomain — based on our analysis of 406 enriched companies at TechnologyChecker.io.
Is Zammad free?
Yes, if you host it yourself. Zammad is open source under the GPL v3 licence, and zammad.org offers it as a free download to install on your own servers (checked 15 October 2026). Hosted Zammad costs money: from €7 per agent a month billed yearly. Most of the 553 domains in our crawl are self-run installations.
How much does Zammad cost?
Zammad's pricing page, checked on 15 October 2026, lists hosted plans at €7 per agent a month billed yearly (Starter, up to 5 agents), €16 (Professional, up to 35) and €25 (Plus, unlimited), or €9, €18 and €27 monthly. Self-hosting is free; paid support packages for self-hosters cost €2,999, €5,999 or €9,999 a year. Trials run 30 days.
Who created Zammad?
Martin Edenhofer, who earlier created the OTRS helpdesk. Zammad's company page says he started Zammad in 2014 with the core team from OTRS, and that the Zammad Foundation and Zammad GmbH were set up that year. The OTRS heritage shows in our data: Germany holds 146 of the 324 companies in our country table.
What does Zammad mean?
