Sentry Usage Statistics

Sentry grew from a handful of early detections in 2013 to over 802,000 active domains by mid-2025. A revamped JavaScript SDK triggered a 37x spike in January 2018, jumping from 2,378 to 87,387 domains in a single month. A second acceleration in mid-2020 pushed counts past 240,000 when Wix embedded Sentry into its platform. Growth peaked at 754,757 active domains in April 2025 before pulling back to 649,036 by July. Sentry processes over 790 billion events monthly, per its own reporting.

List of Companies Using Sentry

Our verified list of companies using Sentry on TechnologyChecker.io covers brands that use Sentry across every sector and geography. Deloitte runs it on articulate.deloitte.com, Samsung on samsung.com, Uber on its ride-hailing infrastructure. Many of the websites using Sentry in this database are subdomains and internal applications, not public marketing sites. Sentry Customers by Company Size & Age

Is Sentry only for startups? The numbers say yes and no. 85.4% of Sentry customers have 1-10 employees based on our analysis of 511,526 enriched companies. Most of these are Wix-hosted sites where Sentry runs automatically, not a deliberate choice by the site owner. Strip out the Wix effect, and you get a different picture: Anthropic's 600+ engineers rely on Sentry as their primary debugging tool, per their published case study. Nearly 2,000 companies with 10,000+ employees run it too, including Deloitte, Samsung, and Siemens.

What Industries Use Sentry the Most?

Business Consulting and Services tops the list at 4.56%, followed by Construction (3.56%) and Retail (2.88%). No single industry exceeds 5%, which makes Sentry a genuinely horizontal tool. Software Development (2.78%) and IT Services (2.72%) together represent just 5.5%, lower than you'd expect for a developer tool. The Wix integration dilutes the developer-heavy signal by adding millions of non-technical business sites to the mix, based on our enriched company data.

Retail12,423 (2.88%)
Advertising Services12,251 (2.84%)
Software Development12,026 (2.78%)
IT Services and IT Consulting11,752 (2.72%)

Software Development companies using Sentry account for 2.78% of the detected user base, while IT Services companies on Sentry add another 2.72%. These numbers understate Sentry's developer penetration: Sentry itself reports 4 million developers and 130,000+ organizations. The gap between our 802K domain count and Sentry's self-reported 130K organizations highlights that many Sentry users run it on backend services and CI pipelines, not just public-facing websites we can crawl. Construction firms using Sentry at 3.56% illustrate the Wix effect clearly, based on our enriched company data.

Sentry Alternatives & Competitors

Sentry's competitive position shows near-total dominance, based on our market share data across 50M+ crawled domains. New Relic (16.2%) is the only competitor with real scale, but it focuses on full-stack observability rather than dedicated error tracking. Datadog (2.0%) and BugSnag (1.9%) compete in narrower segments. Sentry's open-source roots, generous free tier, and Wix platform integration give it distribution advantages that commercial-only competitors can't match. Sentry has also expanded beyond error tracking: it acquired Codecov in 2022 and Emerge Tools in May 2025, and launched AI Code Review in September 2025.

Sentry Customer Migration

Based on 100,000 enriched companies, Sentry gains from every competitor and loses to none at scale. The largest flow runs from New Relic, where 26,686 companies dropped New Relic and adopted Sentry, a 9.3:1 gain ratio. Even against Datadog, Sentry's closest competitive threat, the ratio sits at 1.6:1 in Sentry's favor. The one-directional migration pattern reflects a market shift: as development teams gained more infrastructure ownership, they chose Sentry's developer-first approach over ops-oriented tools like New Relic.

Expert Analysis: Sentry Growth Trends & Key Signals for Sales Teams in 2026

Mehmet Suleyman
Mehmet SuleymanCEO & Co-founder, TechnologyChecker

With 10+ years in web crawling and technographic data analysis, I've examined Sentry's footprint across our dataset of 50M+ domains. This analysis draws on 511,526 enriched company profiles matched to LinkedIn data, combined with migration tracking, tech stack overlap, and G2 review sentiment. Sentry reported $128M in annual revenue by end of 2023 and a $3 billion valuation. Those are the company's own numbers. What follows is what our independent crawl data says about who actually uses Sentry, how the market is shifting, and what the numbers mean for sales and product teams as of our March 2026 crawl.

1. Growth trajectory

Sentry's adoption curve tells two distinct stories. From 2013 to late 2017, it grew organically from 15 to 2,378 active domains. Respectable for an open-source project, but nothing unusual. Then January 2018 happened: a revamped JavaScript SDK triggered a 37x spike to 87,387 domains in a single month. The detection count stabilized around 60,000-65,000 through 2018 as our crawl methodology adjusted, then resumed steady growth through 2019.

The second inflection arrived in August 2020, when active domains jumped from 100,905 to 239,682. This correlates with Wix embedding Sentry into its platform. Every Wix-hosted site started loading the Sentry SDK, whether the site owner knew about it or not. From there, growth continued at roughly 10,000-15,000 new domains per month through early 2025, peaking at 754,757 active domains in April 2025.

The pullback to 649,036 by July 2025 is worth watching. It could reflect Wix adjusting how it loads the SDK, natural churn among inactive sites, or a shift in our detection methodology. Meanwhile, Sentry's own metrics keep climbing: 790 billion events processed monthly, up from earlier estimates. The company acquired Emerge Tools in May 2025 and launched AI Code Review in September, signals of a company investing in growth, not managing decline.

"The 73.6% Wix overlap is the single most important data point in this analysis. It reframes Sentry's 800K domain count from 'massive direct adoption' to 'massive platform distribution plus strong direct adoption.' Both are valuable. They just tell very different sales stories." - Mehmet Suleyman, CEO at TechnologyChecker.io

Sales Signal: Sentry's direct-install base (non-Wix) sits around 200K domains. That's the addressable market for tooling, integrations, and services targeting teams that actively chose Sentry. Filter out Wix co-occurrence on TechnologyChecker.io to focus on these companies.

2. Customer profile

Two populations exist in this data. The bulk, 85.4% with 1-10 employees, are micro-businesses on Wix. They didn't pick Sentry; it came with their website builder. The remaining 14.6% is where the story gets interesting.

At the enterprise end, our crawl shows Deloitte, Samsung, Uber, Siemens, Boeing, Nike, FedEx, and Pfizer. These detections appear on subdomains like articulate.deloitte.com and partner.infosys.com, pointing to departmental deployments rather than company-wide mandates. Sentry's own customer page confirms a different set of high-profile names: Anthropic (whose 600+ engineers call Sentry their primary tool, per their published case study), Disney+, Cloudflare, Reddit, Riot Games, and Atlassian. Reddit's senior engineer Andy Tuba described how Sentry consolidates millions of error reports into roughly 50 root causes: "With Sentry, I can fix a million problems all at once."

Age distribution skews young. 42.6% of Sentry customers were founded in the 2010s, another 32.6% in the 2020s. Only 5.4% predate 2000. This is a tool for digital-native companies.

Sales Signal: Enterprise detections on subdomains signal expansion opportunities. If Sentry runs on one team's subdomain, other engineering groups at the same company probably need error monitoring too. The 1,990 companies with 10,001+ employees where Sentry has a foothold but isn't standardized company-wide are high-value targets.

3. Industry and geographic concentration

No single industry exceeds 5%. Business Consulting (4.56%) leads, followed by Construction (3.56%) and Retail (2.88%). Software Development and IT Services together represent only 5.5% of the total, which seems low for a developer tool. But remember the Wix dilution: millions of non-technical businesses inflate the denominator. Among direct installs, software and IT companies likely account for 15-20% of deployments.

Geographically, the United States accounts for 38.6%, followed by the UK (9.6%) and Brazil (6.4%). Brazil's #3 position is unusual for a developer tool. It correlates with strong Wix adoption in Latin America. Germany (2.6%) and France (3.9%) are both strong engineering markets but show smaller shares than you'd expect given their developer populations.

Sales Signal: Brazil's 30,405 Sentry-detected companies represent untapped potential. Most are Wix sites, but filtering for Software Development or IT Services in Brazil surfaces companies that deliberately chose Sentry and may need paid plans. The German market (12,300 companies) has regulatory requirements around error logging that could drive enterprise plan upgrades.

4. Migration patterns

Sentry's migration data is one-directional: it gains from every tracked competitor. The biggest corridor runs from New Relic, where 26,686 enriched companies dropped New Relic and adopted Sentry. Only 2,868 went the other direction. That's a 9.3:1 gain ratio. Against BugSnag, the ratio is 4.2:1 (4,295 gained vs. 1,034 lost). Against TrackJs, 19.2:1.

The one competitor where Sentry's advantage narrows: Datadog. The gain ratio is 1.6:1 (963 vs. 584). Datadog's full-stack observability pitch (infrastructure + APM + error tracking) gives it a bundling advantage. In the last year alone, 248 companies added Datadog after leaving Sentry, the highest recent loss rate to any single competitor. This is consistent with G2 feedback: teams that outgrow error-only monitoring want a single pane of glass for everything.

"The 9.3:1 gain ratio against New Relic isn't about Sentry being a better product across the board. It's about market segmentation. New Relic sold to ops teams. Sentry sells to developers. As dev teams gained more infrastructure ownership over the past decade, they picked the tool built for their workflow." - Mehmet Suleyman, CEO at TechnologyChecker.io

Sales Signal: The 26,686 companies that dropped New Relic for Sentry already made a buy decision in observability. They're a rich prospecting pool for adjacent tooling. The 584 companies that left Sentry for Datadog reveal a specific pain point: they outgrew error-only monitoring and wanted full-stack observability. Target these churned accounts with integrated solutions.

5. Technology ecosystem

The tech stack data confirms the Wix hypothesis. 73.6% of Sentry's enriched company base also runs Wix, the highest co-occurrence rate we've seen for any technology pair in our dataset. For context, the next highest CMS overlap is Weebly at 1.25%.

Outside CMS, Facebook Domain Insights (23.6%) and Hotjar (5.86%) are the most common analytics tools. In JavaScript frameworks, RequireJS (19.7%) leads, followed by AngularJS (5.4%) and Vue v2 (3.3%). RequireJS prevalence likely reflects Wix's internal module system rather than developer choice. Intercom (2.43%) edges out Zendesk (1.23%) for live chat, suggesting tech-forward customer support stacks among direct-install users.

Sales Signal: Companies running both Sentry and Intercom (roughly 19,500) have engineering teams that care about user experience across both the product and support layers. They're likely to invest in session replay, performance monitoring, and other developer experience tools. This overlap group is a high-quality prospecting segment.

6. G2 review signals

G2 reviewers cite ease of use (21 mentions) and efficient error tracking (21 mentions) as Sentry's top strengths. Debugging and monitoring capabilities each received 13 mentions. This aligns with our migration data: companies leave competitors with steeper learning curves (New Relic, Datadog) for Sentry's developer-friendly interface.

On the criticism side, pricing concerns appear in 13 combined mentions across three categories. Configuration complexity (5 mentions) and UI navigation (5 mentions) round out the negatives. The pricing complaints map to a pattern in our data: 85.4% of Sentry's detected base has 1-10 employees. Event-based pricing hits growing applications hard, and Sentry's Team plan at $26/month only includes 50K errors. For a fast-growing startup, that threshold arrives quickly.

Sentry's September 2025 launch of AI Code Review and its MCP Server Monitoring tool (August 2025) address a different criticism entirely: that Sentry only catches bugs after they ship. These pre-release tools signal that Sentry is listening to feedback about preventing errors, not just reporting them.

Sales Signal: The pricing sensitivity in G2 reviews, combined with the micro-business skew in our data, suggests a large base of free-tier users hitting scaling friction. Tools that help these companies optimize Sentry event volume (error deduplication, smart sampling, budget alerts) have a ready market.

7. Key takeaways

1. Sentry's 802,694-domain footprint is real but context-dependent. About 73.6% comes from Wix's platform integration. That leaves an estimated 200K direct installations where developers actively chose the tool.

2. Market dominance is overwhelming at 77.7%, with a 9.3:1 gain ratio against New Relic and positive migration flows against every tracked competitor.

3. Datadog is the one competitive pressure point (1.6:1 ratio). Teams that outgrow error-only monitoring switch to Datadog's full-stack observability bundle.

4. Enterprise adoption is real but departmental. Deloitte, Samsung, Uber, and Nike run Sentry on specific subdomains. Anthropic and Reddit are confirmed company-wide users via Sentry's published case studies.

5. The customer base skews micro-business (85.4% at 1-10 employees) and young (75.2% founded after 2010), driven by both Wix distribution and startup adoption.

6. Sentry's 2025 acquisitions and product launches (Emerge Tools, AI Code Review, MCP Monitoring, gaming console support) show a company expanding beyond error tracking into the full development lifecycle.

8. Sales applications

Outreach template (enterprise expansion): "Hi [Name], I noticed [Company]'s team runs Sentry on [detected subdomain]. Anthropic's 600+ engineers standardized on Sentry company-wide, but most enterprises we track still run it on isolated subdomains. For organizations like yours, we help teams identify where error monitoring coverage gaps exist across engineering groups. Worth 15 minutes?"

Targeting strategy: On TechnologyChecker.io, filter for companies using Sentry with 201+ employees in Software Development or IT Services. Exclude Wix co-occurrence to focus on direct installations. This surfaces roughly 8,000-10,000 companies that actively chose Sentry and have budget for enterprise plans.

Competitive angle: Target the 2,868 companies that switched from Sentry to New Relic and the 584 that moved to Datadog. These companies needed more than error tracking. Position integrated observability solutions that address the gaps Sentry left behind.

What is Sentry error monitoring?

Sentry is an open-source application monitoring platform that captures errors, exceptions, and performance issues in real time. Founded in 2012 by David Cramer, it supports 100+ languages including JavaScript, Python, React, and Node.js. Developers install a lightweight SDK that reports crashes with full stack traces and context. Sentry processes over 790 billion events monthly for 130,000+ organizations and 4 million developers, per the company's own reporting.

How much does Sentry error tracking cost?

Sentry has four tiers: Developer (free, 1 user, 5K errors/month), Team ($26/month billed annually, unlimited users, 50K errors), Business ($80/month, SAML/SCIM, anomaly detection), and Enterprise (custom pricing with dedicated support). All paid plans use event-based pricing with pay-as-you-go options. Reserved capacity purchases offer up to 20% discounts. The company hit $128M in annual revenue by end of 2023.

Does Sentry have a free plan?

Yes. Sentry's Developer plan is free and includes 5,000 errors per month, 5 million tracing spans, 50 session replays, email alerts, and 10 custom dashboards. It covers one user with all core monitoring features. The free tier is designed for solo developers and side projects. For comparison, Sentry's paid Team plan at $26/month raises the error limit to 50K and adds unlimited users.

Is Sentry free for commercial use?

Yes. Sentry's free cloud plan at sentry.io works for any commercial project. The BSL (Business Source License) applies to self-hosted deployments: you can run Sentry internally, but you can't resell it as a hosted service without a commercial license. The cloud-hosted free tier has no such restriction. Many startups begin on the free plan and upgrade as their error volume grows.

Can Sentry track errors in real-time?

Yes. Sentry captures and surfaces errors within seconds. Each report includes the full stack trace, device context, user session data, and breadcrumbs showing what happened before the crash. Reddit uses Sentry to consolidate millions of individual error reports into roughly 50 root causes. Teams configure real-time alerts via Slack, PagerDuty, or webhooks. Sentry groups duplicate errors automatically to cut through noise.

Who founded Sentry and where is it headquartered?

David Cramer co-founded Sentry. He started the open-source project to solve his own frustration with error logs. The tool debuted in 2012 and the company has since raised $217 million across 6 funding rounds, reaching a $3 billion valuation in May 2022. Sentry is headquartered in San Francisco with offices in Seattle, Vienna, and Toronto. The team has grown to 418 employees as of February 2026.

Is there a free alternative to Sentry?

Sentry itself offers a free tier (5K errors/month). For self-hosted alternatives, GlitchTip is an open-source Sentry-compatible option. Highlight.io provides free session replay with error tracking. Grafana Faro handles front-end observability at no cost. BugSnag and Rollbar each have limited free tiers. Our data shows Sentry at 802,694 active domains vs. BugSnag at 20,085 and Rollbar at 8,163, so the free alternatives serve a small fraction of the market.

What is Sentry useful for?

Sentry covers three areas: error tracking (capturing crashes and exceptions with context), performance monitoring (identifying slow transactions and database queries), and session replay (recording what users did before a bug). It integrates with GitHub, Jira, Slack, and 100+ other tools. In September 2025, Sentry added AI Code Review to catch bugs in pull requests before code ships to production.

Can Sentry be self-hosted?

Yes. Sentry publishes a self-hosted deployment option via Docker Compose on GitHub. The self-hosted version includes all core features and runs under the BSL license for internal use. You'll need a Linux server with at least 4GB RAM and Docker. Self-hosted Sentry doesn't include SLA guarantees or cloud-only AI features like the Seer debugging agent. Sentry acquired Codecov in 2022, and that's available as a separate self-hosted tool.

How does Sentry compare to Datadog?

Sentry specializes in error tracking and crash reporting. Datadog provides full-stack infrastructure monitoring. Our data shows Sentry on 802,694 domains vs. Datadog on 20,432, though they serve different primary needs. Migration data tells the story: 963 companies moved from Datadog to Sentry, while 584 went the other direction (1.6:1 ratio). Many companies run both, using Sentry for code-level bugs and Datadog for server and container monitoring.

Does Sentry support mobile apps?

Yes. Sentry has native SDKs for iOS (Swift, Objective-C), Android (Java, Kotlin), React Native, Flutter, and Unity. In May 2025, Sentry acquired Emerge Tools to add mobile app size analysis and build optimization. In September 2025, it added full support for Xbox, PlayStation, and Nintendo Switch crash reporting. Riot Games uses this gaming console support at scale for their titles.

Why is Sentry detected on so many Wix sites?

Wix embeds Sentry into its website builder platform for internal error tracking. Every Wix-hosted site loads the Sentry SDK automatically, regardless of whether the site owner installed it. Our tech stack data confirms 73.6% of Sentry-detected domains also run Wix. The remaining 26.4% are direct installations by developers who chose Sentry for their own applications. This distinction matters when interpreting Sentry's 802K domain count.

What languages and frameworks does Sentry support?

Sentry supports 100+ platforms: JavaScript, TypeScript, Python, Ruby, PHP, Java, Go, Rust, .NET, Swift, Kotlin, and Dart. Framework-specific SDKs cover React, Next.js, Angular, Vue, Django, Flask, Rails, Laravel, Spring Boot, and Express. In August 2025, Sentry launched MCP Server Monitoring for teams building on the Model Context Protocol, extending support into AI infrastructure.
