Companies Using Contact Form 7

I spent years on crawling infrastructure at Bing before we built TechnologyChecker, and Contact Form 7 is the kind of signal that tests how honest a crawl is. Our October 2026 crawl finds it on 2,956,339 live domains, and we matched 1,875,971 of them to a company. Before reading anything into that, I want to be clear about what it counts, because it's easy to misread.

What the count measures

A domain counts when its pages load Contact Form 7's script or stylesheet from the plugin folder, or set the plugin's JavaScript object. Contact Form 7's own documentation says it loads its JavaScript and CSS on every page by default. So a site with a form on its contact page shows up on its homepage too. In a random sample of 300 live domains, 251 homepages loaded the plugin, and only 81 of those 251 had a Contact Form 7 form in the page. The count is sites with the plugin switched on. That's a fair measure of installs and a misleading one for comparing plugins.

Sales Signal: treat each domain as a WordPress site whose owner chose a free form tool. Ask for the contact or quote page, not the homepage, when you check a prospect.

A flat line at the top

The chart reads 2,462,892 in June, 2,804,533 in July, 2,827,617 in August, 2,932,123 in September and 2,956,339 in October. I don't read growth into that. The set of domains we crawl turns over every month, with dead sites leaving and new ones arriving, and the signals we capture changed over the summer, so the June to July step is ours. Churn is large in absolute terms: 292,479 domains have dropped it on at least one hostname since we began tracking it in March 2026. When we rechecked, 33,979 of 293,562 such domains still ran it on another hostname, so roughly one drop in nine is a site moving its form rather than losing it.

Sales Signal: this is a saturated, stable pool of close to three million sites. The opportunity is in what those sites lack, not in a rising adoption curve.

Who runs it

63.55% of matched companies with a known size have 1 to 10 employees and 23.91% have 11 to 50. That's almost identical to WPForms' profile (65.03% at the smallest band) and more micro than Gravity Forms' (56.18%). There are 14,963 companies with more than 1,000 staff, and the named ones usually run it on one property. The US State Department uses it on careers.state.gov, Toyota on its US newsroom, Caixa Econômica Federal on its investor-relations site and 7-Eleven on its fleet fuelling site. H&M Group, Valeo, NHS England and Cox Enterprises run it on their main corporate sites.

Sales Signal: at large accounts the owner is a communications, HR or investor-relations team with its own WordPress site. That team buys agency hours, hosting and lead routing, not enterprise form software.

Europe first

The United States has 322,422 matched companies, the United Kingdom 139,985 and Germany 136,574. Spain, Italy, France, the Netherlands and Poland all make the top 12, and the seven European countries there add up to 692,323 companies, about 2.1 times the US figure. Gravity Forms' profile is the mirror image, with 112,253 US companies and 16,686 in the UK. Industry tells you nothing narrow: Construction leads at 4.97%, IT services follow at 3.72%, and the top ten industries add up to 28.68%.

Sales Signal: for anything sold to European small businesses on WordPress (consent tools, local SEO, hosting, translation), a Contact Form 7 list filtered by country is one of the largest ready-made lists you'll find.

Stacking, not switching

Our migration panel is empty for Contact Form 7, and that's deliberate. 50,030 domains run it next to WPForms today, which is 19% of WPForms' 263,024 domains. 12,456 run it with Gravity Forms. Of all domains ever seen with both plugins, 81.2% still run both for WPForms and 75.8% for Gravity Forms. When three in four sites keep both, a drop isn't a switch. Often the old plugin stays active after a builder or agency adds a new one.

Sales Signal: a site with two form plugins is a site with no clear owner of its forms. That's the opening for a cleanup, consolidation or performance audit pitch.

The stack around it

WordPress runs on 99.8% of the 2,912,380 domains we use for these shares, after removing for-sale and gambling pages. Elementor is on 30.56%, WPBakery on 6.58% and Divi on 3.98%. Visible spam protection is thin. reCAPTCHA loads on 32.56%, Cloudflare Turnstile on 2.22%, CleanTalk on 0.6% and hCaptcha on 0.58%, so at least 64% of sites load none of the four. Some of those use Akismet, which works on the server and doesn't show in a page. GoDaddy hosts 10.23% and Hostinger 7.87%.

Sales Signal: spam protection and form deliverability are the two obvious gaps. Contact Form 7 also doesn't store messages; its FAQ points users to Flamingo, which WordPress.org lists at 800,000+ active installs, far fewer than the plugin's 10+ million.

Version drift

WordPress.org rates the plugin 80 out of 100 across 2,182 ratings, and the developer ships steadily: 6.1.7 in August 2026, 6.2 on 6 October and 6.2.2 on 11 October. Sites don't keep up. We fetched 300 random live domains on 14 October; 225 showed a version. 58.7% ran 6.1.x, 9.8% ran 6.2, and 24.4% were still on 5.x or older. 6.2 raised the PHP requirement to 8.3, which holds some sites back. The security picture follows: 87 of the 225 (38.7%) were older than 6.1.5, the February 2026 release that fixed an email header injection, and 13 (5.8%) were older than 5.3.2, the fix for CVE-2020-35489, a critical file-upload flaw listed on NVD.

Sales Signal: for WordPress care plans and security services, version is the qualifier. A site on Contact Form 7 5.x has probably not been updated in years, and its owner will recognise that when you show them.
