Our database tracks 51,302 domains using CleanTalk, from personal blogs to large organisations including First Student, TransPerfect, Quad, Camping World, the American Cancer Society and Curtiss-Wright. Below you'll find a complete list of companies using CleanTalk with industry breakdowns, geographic data, and enriched company profiles, based on our analysis of 36,704 enriched companies at TechnologyChecker.io.

CleanTalk holds a 1.00% share of the bot detection and CAPTCHA category, ranking #5 of the 32 tools we track in it. That understates its position in the niche it actually serves: it is a WordPress plugin, 96.24% of the sites we detect it on run WordPress, and within that ecosystem it is a first-choice anti-spam layer rather than a general bot-detection product.

CleanTalk Usage Statistics

Is CleanTalk growing? Yes, but the shape of this chart needs an explanation we would rather give than have you infer. We currently detect CleanTalk on 51,302 active domains. 38,288 of those were first detected between 4 and 13 August 2026, at a rate of roughly 4,000 a day against a normal background of 20 to 30.

That is not ten days of adoption. It is ten days of discovery. A spam-filter plugin does not gain forty thousand installations in a fortnight. What happened is that the set of domains we crawl expanded sharply over that window, and CleanTalk sits on WordPress sites, which is exactly the population that expansion reached. The installs were already there; we had not yet looked at the sites carrying them. Two checks support that reading: 98.5% of the newly-found domains run WordPress against 89.5% of the ones we already knew about, which is the profile of a genuine CleanTalk population rather than a false-positive signature, and the daily discovery rate fell back to 12 a day once the run completed on 14 August.

The practical consequence: treat 51,302 as the current best estimate of CleanTalk's real footprint, and treat the step in the chart as our measurement catching up rather than the market moving. Counts on this site are never a fixed panel, since the domains we crawl turn over every month as dead sites drop out and newly discovered ones are added.

There are 51,302 companies and domains where we detect CleanTalk, sign up to download the entire CleanTalk dataset.

Here are recognizable companies using CleanTalk that our crawler currently detects, with the host each is found on:

  • First Student - North America's largest school bus operator, on firststudentinc.com
  • TransPerfect - the language and technology services group
  • Quad - the US marketing and print group, on quad.com
  • Camping World - runs blog.campingworld.com on CleanTalk
  • American Cancer Society - on canceratlas.cancer.org
  • Curtiss-Wright - the aerospace and defence manufacturer
  • Qualys - the cybersecurity vendor
  • SP Plus and Menasha - parking infrastructure and packaging
  • Mississippi State University (research.msstate.edu) and the University of Delhi

Each is a live detection rather than a historical record. Note that a cybersecurity vendor and a defence manufacturer both run it: CleanTalk's appeal at that end is that it removes a spam problem from a marketing property without involving the security team.

Which Countries Use CleanTalk the Most?

Which countries use CleanTalk the most? The United States leads with 41.9% of companies whose country we know (15,005), followed by the United Kingdom (8.6%), and then a distinctly European tier: the Netherlands at 6.1% (2,172) ahead of Germany at 5.9% (2,126), with Australia (5.5%), Canada (4.9%), France (3.6%) and Italy (2.4%) behind. The Netherlands placing third is unusual and worth noting, since it is a market that rarely appears that high in our data. English-speaking countries account for 60.9% of the base and Europe for 36.5%.

CleanTalk Market Share Among Bot Detection & CAPTCHA

What is CleanTalk's market share? CleanTalk holds 1.00% of the bot detection and CAPTCHA category, ranking #5 of 32 tools, behind reCAPTCHA (65.26%), Cloudflare Bot Management (26.04%), Cloudflare Turnstile (3.68%) and hCaptcha (3.44%). That ranking is a poor description of the product, though, because the four platforms above it are general bot-mitigation layers and CleanTalk is a WordPress anti-spam plugin. The comparison that matters is with Akamai Bot Manager (24,142 domains), which CleanTalk now outnumbers two to one, and with the free CAPTCHA widgets it displaces on small sites.

CleanTalk Customers by Company Size & Age

What size companies use CleanTalk? It is overwhelmingly a small-business tool. 63.69% of CleanTalk sites we can size have 1-10 employees and another 25.39% have 11-50, putting 89.08% under fifty people, based on 36,704 enriched companies. The tail is thin but not empty: 29 organisations at 10,001+ employees run it, among them First Student, Quad, Camping World and SP Plus, and a further 178 sit in the 1,001-5,000 band. The pattern is what you would expect from a plugin bought per-site rather than per-enterprise.

What Industries Use CleanTalk the Most?

What industries use CleanTalk? Construction tops the list at 6.62%, more than double the second-place vertical, followed by Medical Practices (3.03%), Retail (2.95%), Real Estate (2.89%) and Business Consulting and Services (2.88%). No other industry exceeds 3%. The construction concentration is the same pattern we see across WordPress-heavy tooling: small contractors running a WordPress site with a contact form, which is precisely the surface that attracts the spam CleanTalk exists to block.

Construction2,073 (6.62%)
Medical Practices948 (3.03%)
Retail924 (2.95%)
Real Estate907 (2.89%)
Business Consulting and Services903 (2.88%)
Advertising Services873 (2.79%)

Which industries use CleanTalk the most? Construction companies using CleanTalk represent the largest single vertical at 6.62%, and the reason is mechanical rather than cultural: these are small firms whose websites exist to collect enquiries through a form, and an unprotected WordPress contact form is one of the most reliably spammed objects on the web. Medical practices (3.03%) and real estate firms (2.89%) sit in the same position for the same reason. Retail at 2.95% reflects the WooCommerce overlap, since we find WooCommerce on 19.33% of CleanTalk sites and spam registrations and fake orders are a distinct problem there.

CleanTalk Alternatives & Competitors

Who are CleanTalk's biggest competitors? The answer depends on where you draw the boundary. In the category as we track it, reCAPTCHA (65.26%) and Cloudflare Bot Management (26.04%) dominate, but neither is a like-for-like alternative: they challenge visitors or filter traffic at the edge, while CleanTalk filters submissions in the background without showing anyone a puzzle. That difference is CleanTalk's entire pitch, and the migration data suggests it lands. Its real competition is the free CAPTCHA widget already sitting on a WordPress form, plus the other anti-spam plugins in that ecosystem, which sit below our category's detection threshold individually.

CleanTalk Customer Migration

Are companies switching to or away from CleanTalk? The flows run clearly in CleanTalk's favour. Since our crawler began tracking it, 926 domains moved from reCAPTCHA to CleanTalk against 321 the other way, a 2.9:1 gain ratio and the largest corridor by far. It also gained 134 from Cloudflare Bot Management, 32 from Cloudflare Turnstile and 24 from hCaptcha. Against that it lost 138 to Cloudflare Bot Management, 35 to Turnstile and 10 to hCaptcha. Netted out, CleanTalk gained 1,117 domains and lost 504, a net of +613. The reCAPTCHA corridor is the one to read closely: these are site owners removing a visible challenge from their forms and replacing it with a filter nobody sees, which is the trade CleanTalk sells.

Tech Stack of CleanTalk-Powered Websites

What technologies do CleanTalk customers use alongside it? 96.24% of CleanTalk sites run WordPress. That is the highest single-platform dependency we measure on any technology in our dataset, and it means CleanTalk's addressable market is not really "the web" but "WordPress sites with a form". The rest of the stack follows from that: Google Analytics on 65.80%, Cloudflare on 33.03%, WooCommerce on 19.33% and Site Kit on 6.81%. The most telling number for what CleanTalk is actually protecting: Contact Form 7 appears on 24.92% of CleanTalk sites, with Gravity Forms on 8.58% and WPForms on 2.82%. Roughly one CleanTalk site in four is running the single most-targeted contact form plugin on the web.

CleanTalk Customer Reviews with Pros and Cons

Based on aggregated G2 reviews, CleanTalk receives praise for plugin quality and customer support, though the small review sample (5 total mentions) makes generalizations difficult. The most noted criticism concerns support depth for enterprise-level troubleshooting. At $12/year, user expectations skew toward self-service, those needing hands-on support may find the tier insufficient.

Expert Analysis: CleanTalk Growth Trends & Key Signals for Sales Teams in 2026

Mehmet Suleyman
Mehmet SuleymanCEO & Co-founder, TechnologyChecker

CleanTalk isn't just another entry in the bot detection and CAPTCHA category, and our detection data shows why it deserves separate attention: it is the only tool in the top five that is really a WordPress plugin.

1. Growth trajectory, and one thing you need to know about this chart

We currently detect CleanTalk on 51,302 active domains. Before drawing any conclusion from the shape of that curve, note that 38,288 of those domains were first detected between 4 and 13 August 2026, at around 4,000 a day against a background rate of 20 to 30.

That is discovery, not adoption. An anti-spam plugin does not add forty thousand installations in ten days. The set of domains we crawl widened sharply over that window and reached the WordPress population where CleanTalk lives. Two things confirm the reading rather than assert it: 98.5% of the newly-found domains run WordPress, against 89.5% of the ones we already knew about, so the new cohort looks more like a genuine CleanTalk population than the old one did; and the discovery rate collapsed back to 12 a day once the run finished on 14 August. Treat 51,302 as the current best estimate of CleanTalk's real footprint, and treat the step as our measurement catching up.

Sales Signal: There is no growth wave to ride here, and anyone selling you one is reading our chart wrong. The genuine signal is the installed base: 51,302 domains, of which 36,704 we can attach a company to, overwhelmingly small businesses on WordPress.

2. Customer profile: the micro-business WordPress owner

Our enriched data is unambiguous about who uses CleanTalk. 63.69% of companies have 1-10 employees. Add the 11-50 range and you reach 89.08%. The age distribution matches: 34.61% were founded in the 2010s and another 14.73% in the 2020s, with a longer tail into the 2000s (19.81%) and 1990s (11.81%) than most WordPress tooling carries.

The enterprise tail is thin but real: 29 organisations at 10,001+ employees, including First Student, Quad, Camping World and SP Plus, plus 178 in the 1,001-5,000 band such as Mississippi State University. Qualys, a publicly traded cybersecurity company, runs it. So does Curtiss-Wright, a defence manufacturer. Those are exceptions rather than the rule, and they tend to sit on one marketing property rather than the corporate estate, which is exactly how a per-site plugin licence propagates.

Sales Signal: The core customer is a small business or agency owner running one to five WordPress sites who wants spam gone without technical overhead. Cost-sensitivity is a defining trait; products priced above $50/month will meet resistance. Volume and agency tiers work better than seat-based pricing.

3. Industry and geographic concentration

Construction leads at 6.62%, more than double the next vertical, followed by Medical Practices (3.03%), Retail (2.95%), Real Estate (2.89%) and Business Consulting (2.88%). Nothing else clears 3%. The common thread is not the industry but the surface: a WordPress site whose whole purpose is a contact form, which is the most reliably spammed object on the small-business web.

Geographically, the United States leads at 41.9% (15,005 companies), followed by the UK at 8.6% (3,069). Then something unusual: the Netherlands takes third at 6.1% (2,172), ahead of Germany at 5.9%. The Netherlands rarely places that high in our data. English-speaking markets account for 60.9% of the base and Europe for 36.5%.

Sales Signal: Target by platform and size rather than vertical, since the industry spread is flat by construction. The Dutch and German clusters are worth a look for GDPR-framed security bundles, and they are large enough here to justify localisation that most vendors skip.

4. Migration patterns: winning the small-site CAPTCHA trade

The flows run consistently in CleanTalk's favour, and the shape of them tells you what the product actually replaces. 926 domains moved from reCAPTCHA to CleanTalk against 321 the other way, a 2.9:1 gain ratio and by far the largest corridor. It gained a further 134 from Cloudflare Bot Management, 32 from Cloudflare Turnstile and 24 from hCaptcha, while losing 138 to Cloudflare Bot Management, 35 to Turnstile and 10 to hCaptcha. Netted out: 1,117 gained, 504 lost, +613.

The reCAPTCHA corridor is the whole thesis in one number. These are site owners taking a visible challenge off their forms and replacing it with a filter the visitor never sees. The counter-flow to Cloudflare Bot Management (net -4) is the opposite trade, made by sites whose problem grew past form spam into traffic filtering.

Sales Signal: Domains that recently dropped reCAPTCHA for CleanTalk have just made a deliberate decision about user experience over free-and-familiar. They are receptive to anything else that removes friction from a form, and they have demonstrated willingness to pay for it.

5. The CleanTalk technology stack

One number defines this profile: 96.24% of CleanTalk sites run WordPress. That is the highest single-platform dependency we measure on any technology in our dataset. CleanTalk's addressable market is not the web, it is WordPress sites with a form.

The rest follows: Google Analytics on 65.80%, Cloudflare on 33.03%, WooCommerce on 19.33% so roughly one CleanTalk site in five is also a shop, and Site Kit on 6.81%. The most diagnostic overlap is the forms layer: Contact Form 7 on 24.92% of CleanTalk sites, Gravity Forms on 8.58%, WPForms on 2.82%. A quarter of the base pairs CleanTalk with the single most-targeted contact form plugin on the web, which is as close to a statement of purpose as tech-stack data gets.

Sales Signal: The WordPress + Contact Form 7 + WooCommerce combination is the archetypal CleanTalk setup. Anything that integrates with those three will find a warm audience. The WooCommerce fifth is a distinct sub-segment for payment-fraud, shipping and inventory tooling.

G2 review signals

G2 coverage is very thin, five mentions in total, which is too small to generalise from and is itself a signal: CleanTalk's buyers find it through the WordPress plugin directory rather than software marketplaces. What is there cites plugin quality and customer support on the positive side, with support depth for larger deployments as the recurring reservation.

Key takeaways

  • 51,302 active domains, but 38,288 of them were discovered in a ten-day crawl expansion in August 2026. It is coverage catching up, not a growth wave.
  • 96.24% WordPress dependency, the highest single-platform concentration in our dataset.
  • 89.08% of the base is under fifty employees; the enterprise tail is 29 organisations at 10,001+.
  • Net-positive migration against every competitor: 1,117 gained, 504 lost, led by 926 from reCAPTCHA at 2.9:1.
  • Construction at 6.62% is double the next vertical, and Contact Form 7 sits on a quarter of the base. Both point at the same thing: unprotected small-business contact forms.
  • The Netherlands is the #3 country at 6.1%, ahead of Germany, which is unusual in our data.

Sales applications

Prospecting template: "Hi [Name], I noticed [domain.com] runs CleanTalk alongside [WooCommerce/Contact Form 7]. Our data shows 89% of CleanTalk sites belong to companies with fifty or fewer employees, and most are running the same WordPress stack you are. We help companies in [industry] with [complementary service] that plugs into it."

Targeting strategy: Filter by CleanTalk + WooCommerce (19.33% of the base) to find ecommerce-ready small businesses, then layer country (US 41.9%, UK 8.6%, Netherlands 6.1%) and industry (Construction 6.62%, Medical Practices 3.03%).

Competitive angle: The 926 domains that moved off reCAPTCHA are the warmest segment in this dataset. They have already decided that a visible CAPTCHA costs them more than a subscription does, which is a useful thing to know before you pitch anything else that touches their forms.

Frequently Asked Questions

Who uses CleanTalk?

We detect CleanTalk on 51,302 domains, including First Student, TransPerfect, Delhi University. A detection means the technology is present on that domain, which for large organisations is often a single storefront or subdomain rather than a company-wide deployment. Among domains we matched to a company with a resolved industry, the most common is Construction (6.62%).

How many customers does CleanTalk have?

We detect 51,302 domains running CleanTalk across our monthly crawl of live business domains. Company data could be matched for 36,704 of them (71.5%), and every company-size, industry and country breakdown on this page describes that matched subset rather than the full detected base. A further 2,329 domains carried a CleanTalk detection previously and no longer do.

What is CleanTalk's market share?

CleanTalk holds 1% of the Bot Detection & CAPTCHA category, ranking #5. This is a share of the domains we detect running a platform in this category — not a share of all websites, and not a share of spending — so it is not directly comparable to figures published on other denominators.

What are the best alternatives to CleanTalk?

The top alternatives to CleanTalk include reCAPTCHA (65.26% market share), Cloudflare Bot Management (26.04% market share), Cloudflare Turnstile (3.68% market share), hCaptcha (3.44% market share) — measured as a share of the domains we detect running a platform in this category.

Which countries use CleanTalk the most?

United States leads with 15,005 matched CleanTalk domains, followed by United Kingdom (3,069), Netherlands (2,172), Germany (2,126), Australia (1,977). These are counts within the 36,704 domains we could match to a company record, not the full detected base.

What size companies use CleanTalk?

The most common company size is 1-10 employees, representing 63.69% of the CleanTalk domains we could match to a company record and size — a subset of 36,704 matched companies, not of all 51,302 detected domains. This is followed by 11-50 employees (25.39%) and 51-200 employees (7.54%).

How old are companies that use CleanTalk?

Among the CleanTalk domains we could match to a company with a known founding date, most were founded in the 2010s (34.61%), followed by the 2000s (19.81%). That matched subset is drawn from 36,704 companies and is not representative of all 51,302 detected domains. This suggests CleanTalk is most popular among relatively young companies.

What is the ideal customer profile for CleanTalk?

The ideal CleanTalk customer is: Company Size: 1-10 employees, Location: US, UK, or Germany, City: London, New York, Paris, Los Angeles, Founded: 2010-2019, Company Age: ~5-15 years old — based on our analysis of 36,704 enriched companies at TechnologyChecker.io.

What does CleanTalk's anti-spam protection do?

CleanTalk is a cloud-based service that blocks spam bots on websites without using CAPTCHAs or puzzles. It screens comments, form submissions, registrations, and orders in real time using behavioral analysis and a global blacklist database. That invisible approach is what the migration data shows people buying it for: 926 domains moved to CleanTalk from reCAPTCHA against 321 going the other way, which is what it looks like when site owners decide a visible challenge costs them more than a subscription does.

Is CleanTalk free to use?

The WordPress plugin itself is free to install, but it requires a paid cloud service subscription to work. Pricing starts at $12 per year for one website, making it one of the cheapest anti-spam options available. Multi-site packages run $69/year for 10 sites, $115/year for 20, and $27/month for unlimited sites. New accounts typically get a free trial period to test the service.

How does CleanTalk compare to Akismet?

Both are cloud-based WordPress anti-spam services, but they differ in scope. CleanTalk protects forms, registrations, and WooCommerce orders in addition to comments, while Akismet primarily targets comment spam. Our data shows CleanTalk on 51,302 active domains, 96.24% of them WordPress, with Contact Form 7 present on a quarter of them, so the form-protection use case is the dominant one in practice rather than a secondary feature.

Is CleanTalk.org a legitimate service?

Yes. CleanTalk is a long-established commercial plugin with a substantial published review history on Trustpilot, GetApp, Capterra and the WordPress.org plugin directory. Our detection data independently confirms 51,302 active domains running it as of August 2026, across companies from one-person consultancies to First Student, Quad and Curtiss-Wright, which is the kind of footprint a service has to earn over years rather than buy.

Does CleanTalk work with WooCommerce?

Yes, cleanTalk integrates with WooCommerce to block spam orders, fake registrations, and bot-generated checkout attempts. Our tech stack data at TechnologyChecker.io shows 20.9% of CleanTalk websites also run WooCommerce, making it the most common e-commerce platform in the CleanTalk network. The plugin filters WooCommerce-specific forms automatically without requiring separate configuration.

What CMS platforms does CleanTalk support?

CleanTalk offers plugins for WordPress, Joomla, Drupal, and other CMS platforms, plus a universal API for custom websites. In practice the overwhelming majority of deployments are WordPress-based: our detection data puts 96.24% of CleanTalk sites on WordPress, the highest single-platform dependency we measure on any technology. Joomla and Drupal installations exist but are a rounding error against that.

What industries use CleanTalk the most?

Construction leads at 6.62%, followed by Medical Practices (3.03%), Retail (2.95%), Real Estate (2.89%) and Business Consulting and Services (2.88%), based on 36,704 enriched companies. No industry beyond construction exceeds 3%. The common thread is small firms whose websites exist to collect enquiries through a form, which is the surface spam bots target most reliably.

Can CleanTalk protect contact forms from spam?

Yes, that is its primary function. Our tech stack data shows Contact Form 7 on 24.92% of CleanTalk sites, Gravity Forms on 8.58% and WPForms on 2.82%, so roughly a quarter of the install base pairs it with the most widely targeted contact form plugin on the web. CleanTalk screens submissions server-side against its cloud blacklist rather than challenging the visitor, so the form stays a plain form.

How does CleanTalk handle false positives?

CleanTalk reports a 0.05% false-positive rate. When legitimate submissions do get blocked, admins can whitelist specific emails or IP addresses through the CleanTalk dashboard. The Extra Package includes a Personal White List feature. False positives most commonly occur when JavaScript fails to load correctly on the page or when users submit from IP addresses that appear on CleanTalk's global blacklist.

Which countries have the most CleanTalk users?

The United States leads with 41.9% of companies whose country we know, followed by the United Kingdom (8.6%), the Netherlands (6.1%), Germany (5.9%), Australia (5.5%) and Canada (4.9%), based on 36,704 enriched companies. The Netherlands placing third is unusual in our data and makes CleanTalk one of the more European tools in this category, with Europe at 36.5% of the base overall.

Is CleanTalk worth it for small businesses?

For a small site, the value case is strong: our data shows 63.69% of CleanTalk companies have 1-10 employees and 89.08% have fifty or fewer, so it is priced and built for exactly this audience. The migration data supports it too, with 926 domains moving to CleanTalk from reCAPTCHA against 321 going the other way, which is what it looks like when small site owners decide they would rather filter spam invisibly than make every visitor click a puzzle.

Does CleanTalk offer a security firewall?

Yes, beyond anti-spam, CleanTalk's Security add-on includes a web application firewall, malware scanning, brute-force protection, and two-factor authentication, priced separately from the anti-spam subscription. Our data cannot tell you how many CleanTalk sites have the security add-on enabled, since we detect the anti-spam layer rather than the account's plan, so treat the add-on as a product capability rather than something we can size.

What are alternatives to CleanTalk for WordPress?

The main alternatives are the CAPTCHA widgets CleanTalk displaces: reCAPTCHA (3,315,944 domains), Cloudflare Turnstile (187,176) and hCaptcha (174,847), plus Cloudflare Bot Management (1,323,076) at the edge-filtering end. Within WordPress specifically the closest comparisons are other anti-spam plugins, which sit below our category's detection threshold individually. Note the direction of travel: CleanTalk is net-positive against every one of those competitors, gaining 1,117 domains and losing 504.

How many websites currently use CleanTalk?

TechnologyChecker.io detects 51,302 active domains using CleanTalk as of August 2026. One caveat worth stating plainly: 38,288 of those were first detected between 4 and 13 August, when the set of domains we crawl expanded sharply. Those installations already existed and we had simply not yet crawled the sites carrying them, which we can confirm because 98.5% of the newly-found domains run WordPress, matching the profile of the population we already knew about. Read 51,302 as our current best estimate of CleanTalk's real footprint rather than as recent growth.
