Companies Using beehiiv

I'm Sophie Clarke, Product Marketing Manager at TechnologyChecker.io, and I read beehiiv against our September 2026 crawl. The headline is 3,353 domains, and before any chart the question is what kind of use that counts. Our rule matches two things: the links a beehiiv-hosted site makes to beehiiv's media server, and beehiiv's signup-form script on any other website (our guide to technology detection methods explains how rules like these work). Those are different customers, so we separated them.

Hosted newsletters and signup forms

We checked the 3,330 hosts behind the 3,336 domains live in September. 2,374 (71.2%) were newsletters beehiiv hosts on the owner's domain, confirmed by a response header only beehiiv's web app sends or by DNS: 1,344 point a CNAME record at cname.beehiiv.com and 879 an A record at a beehiiv address. 449 (13.5%) were other websites embedding a beehiiv signup form, and 50 forwarded to a beehiiv.com publication. 270 sat behind a bot challenge on their own DNS and are probably hosted, 165 didn't load or showed no marker, and 22 only reused a beehiiv image.

A second group sits outside the headline. beehiiv's signup form can also load as an iframe, which we track under a separate id labelled Beehiiv RSS feed. That id is live on 2,427 domains, and 1,999 of them are not in this page's count. We keep the two apart; across both, 5,335 distinct domains carry beehiiv in some form.

Sales signal: for newsletter services, work the 2,374 hosted publications. For form, popup and conversion tools, the 449 embed sites plus the 1,999 iframe sites are the better list, because there beehiiv is one widget on a site built elsewhere.

Growth or coverage?

The readings are 1,634 in June 2026, 1,710 in July, 2,601 in August and 3,353 in September. It looks like a doubling, and most of it isn't. 1,708 of the 3,336 live domains (51.2%) were first detected in August or September, as our crawl reached more of the sites beehiiv serves. The set of domains we crawl also turns over every month, dead sites out and newly found ones in, and our detection widens over time.

Sales signal: don't pitch on momentum from this line. Use the September count for sizing, and re-check the list each month to catch newsletters we detect for the first time.

Who the customers are

We matched 1,941 domains to a company. 86.19% of those with a known size have 1 to 10 employees and 11.23% have 11 to 50; only 3 exceed 1,000. 59.34% were founded in 2020 or later. That is close to Substack's matched companies, 86.42% at 1 to 10 employees and 54.72% founded since 2020, so the two platforms serve the same kind of small, young publisher.

The larger names use beehiiv for one product. Skift sends its travel newsletters from newsletters.skift.com. Vice Media hosts newsletter.vice.com on beehiiv and embeds its signup form on video.vice.com. FotMob publishes The Assist, and Community Impact runs The InCIder, the membership program behind its Texas local news.

Sales signal: the typical account is a newsletter business of under ten people. The larger accounts are media and sports brands running a newsletter as one product among several, and the host column shows you which subdomain it lives on.

Industry and geography

No industry reaches 10%. The two LinkedIn categories Technology, Information and Internet (9.99%) and Technology, Information and Media (8.31%) together hold 18.3%. Media Production, Internet News and Online Audio and Video Media add 12.93%, and Marketing Services with Advertising Services another 7.1%. Business Consulting and Services is 5.73%.

The United States has 875 matched companies, the United Kingdom 129 and Canada 90, then India (42) and Australia (39). Canada is where beehiiv differs from Substack, whose matched companies include 187 in the UK and only 53 in Canada.

Sales signal: treat North America as one market here. Canada holds 90 of the 1,941 matched companies, about 4.6%, close enough to the UK's 129 to run the same campaign.

Why there is no migration table

283 domains have dropped beehiiv since we began tracking it in March 2026, and 63.0% of them were seen only once, so much of that is flicker rather than exit. No destination passed our tests. The flow people ask about is small: 11 domains that dropped beehiiv now run Substack, and 4 that dropped Substack now run beehiiv.

That last caveat matters. A writer who moves from a substack.com address to a beehiiv site on a new domain shows up to us as two unrelated domains, so switching between them is probably undercounted.

Sales signal: don't build a campaign on switchers; there are too few to find. Build it on the 2,374 hosted publications and the gaps in their stack.

The stack around the newsletter

Every hosted beehiiv site ships the same platform stack, Remix, Tailwind CSS, Sentry and Cloudflare among it, so we left those rows out: they describe beehiiv, not its customers. Across all 3,336 live domains, Google Workspace handles email on 40.86% and Microsoft 365 on 9.02%. GoDaddy (27.07%) and Namecheap (4.23%) show up as DNS provider or registrar. WordPress (12.83%) and Webflow (6.98%) run the main websites or the sites carrying an embed. Facebook Pixel is on 24.67% and the LinkedIn Insights Tag on 5.49%.

Sales signal: a quarter of these domains carry the Meta pixel, the tag you add to measure Facebook and Instagram ads, so paid subscriber acquisition is likely a budget line for them. Tools for sponsorships, referrals and ad attribution have a warm list here.

What G2 reviewers say

beehiiv scores 4.5 out of 5 across 40 G2 reviews (26 September 2026). Reviewers praise the design (16 mentions) and the support that comes with it (13). Four of the five complaint themes are price, led by 9 mentions that it costs too much for a small or occasional newsletter. That fits our base: 86.19% of matched companies have 10 staff or fewer, the buyers most likely to feel the step from the free plan to a paid one.

Sales signal: price is the opening for any cheaper newsletter tool and the retention risk for beehiiv, and both play out among the small accounts.
