Companies Using Plaid
Our live crawl detects Plaid on 3,835 domains, and 2,498 of them resolve to an identifiable organisation. Companies that use Plaid on their own sites include Veterans United, Pitney Bowes, Children's Hospital of Philadelphia and Digital Federal Credit Union, which load Plaid Link on the page, and TD Bank, U.S. Bank and Truist, whose application portals allowlist it. Below is the full list of companies using Plaid, with industries, countries and company sizes.
Read the headline in parts. Of the 3,891 domains where Plaid is live today, 1,973 run Plaid Link, 1,042 land on X or Airbnb, whose security policy lists Plaid, and 876 list Plaid without loading it. Plaid mostly runs inside mobile apps and logged-in flows that no crawler reaches, so this is a floor on Plaid customers, not a census. It ranks 24th in Payment Processing with 0.05% of the category.

Plaid Usage Statistics
Our monthly rollup reads 2,158 domains in June 2026 and 3,835 in September. That near-doubling in a quarter is not adoption. The set of domains we crawl turns over every month, with dead sites dropping out and newly found ones added, and our detection signals widened over the same months: 30% of today's live Plaid domains were first detected in August or September. Use the September count, and read the slope as mostly our side of the measurement. Since we began tracking Plaid in March 2026, 288 domains have dropped a detection, and 47.1% of those had only been seen once.

Which Countries Use Plaid the Most?
Which countries use Plaid the most? The United States, by a wide margin: 1,879 matched organisations, more than 19 times the United Kingdom's 97. Canada is third with 76, then Australia and India with 25 each. Plaid says it supports more than 10,000 institutions in the US and Canada alone, and the page-level signal follows that coverage. Part of the small non-US tail is an X and Airbnb effect: once domains landing on those two sites are removed, the United Kingdom falls from 97 matched organisations to 63 and Australia from 25 to 13.
Share of the 2,498 Plaid domains we matched to a company record — 65.1% of the 3,835 we detect. Top 15 countries shown, so these do not sum to 100%. Domains with no matching company record are not represented here and skew small and independent.
Plaid Market Share Among Payment Processing
What is Plaid's market share? Plaid holds 0.05% of Payment Processing and ranks 24th of the 158 technologies we track in the category, based on our live crawl at TechnologyChecker.io. The figure says more about the category than about Plaid. PayPal (18.86%), Apple Pay (15.44%) and Shop Pay (14.55%) are checkout buttons that sit on public store pages. Plaid connects a bank account to an app, usually after a login, so a share of public domains undercounts it by design.
Top Competitors by Market Share
Plaid Customers by Company Size & Age
What size companies use Plaid? Small ones, on paper. 49.85% of matched organisations have 1 to 10 employees and 29.05% have 11 to 50, based on the 2,413 with a known headcount. Two things push that up: congregations, fraternity chapters and small charities that get Plaid through a platform, and the small firms whose vanity domains forward to X. At the other end sit 44 organisations above 1,000 employees, 9 of them above 10,000, including TD Bank, U.S. Bank and Truist.
Company Size Distribution
Company Age (Founded Decade)
Plaid's age chart has two peaks. 29.36% of matched organisations were founded in the 2010s, which is what you'd expect of fintech, but 23.07% were founded before 1960: congregations, long-established banks and credit unions, and national fraternities and sororities. Remove the domains that land on X or Airbnb and pre-1960 becomes the largest group, at 27.32% against 25.39% for the 2010s.
What Industries Use Plaid the Most?
Banking (15.87%) and Financial Services (12.55%) together make up 28.42% of matched organisations, which is where a bank-connection API should show up. Third place is the surprise: Religious Institutions at 9.62%, ahead of Non-profit Organizations (7.35%) and Software Development (4.55%). That row is mostly one platform's customers, as the paragraph below explains. Hospitality (2.27%) owes much of its place to Airbnb's country sites and drops out of the top ten once domains landing on X or Airbnb are removed, based on our enriched company data.
Synagogues using Plaid are the clearest case of a platform making the choice. About 400 of the domains in this profile are congregation websites on ShulCloud, a synagogue-management system that uses Plaid for dues and donations paid by ACH, so every congregation that turns on bank payments gets Plaid Link. Nonprofits using Plaid, such as Girls Who Code and the CDC Foundation, load it on their giving pages. Banks and credit unions using Plaid show up on application hosts instead, such as apply.prosperitybankusa.com and homeloanapplication.schoolsfirstfcu.org, where an applicant would link an outside account.
Plaid Alternatives & Competitors
Plaid's chart neighbours are not its rivals. PayPal, Apple Pay, Shop Pay, Visa and Mastercard take a payment at checkout; Plaid links a bank account to an app, and the two often sit together: Stripe appears on 1,521 of the 2,849 Plaid sites left after removing domains that land on X or Airbnb. Plaid's functional rivals are other bank-data aggregators, such as MX, Finicity (owned by Mastercard), Yodlee and Stripe's own Financial Connections. We don't yet detect any of them, so this profile has no switching table, based on our market share data at TechnologyChecker.io.

Percentages here are shares of the 2,849 Plaid sites left after removing domains that land on X or Airbnb, so they describe organisations' own sites rather than X's stack. Sentry runs on 24.43% and Datadog on 7.27%. Two rows look like customer choices and are not: Pendo (15.65%) and Usercentrics (14.71%) are largely ShulCloud's platform stack, repeated across its roughly 400 congregation sites. Very Good Security, a vault for card and bank data, appears on 126 sites and Transcend's privacy tooling on 175, which fits a base of banks and fintech apps.

Expert Analysis: Plaid Growth Trends & Key Signals for Sales Teams in 2026

I'm the CTO at TechnologyChecker.io and I look after our detection rules, so with a payments technology I start with one question: what does a match prove? As of our September 2026 crawl we detect Plaid on 3,835 domains, and 2,498 of them resolve to an organisation we can describe. Plaid says more than 9,000 apps and services are built on it. That gap is the first thing to understand here.
Three signals, three meanings
The only part of Plaid a website visitor ever sees is Plaid Link, the window where you pick your bank and sign in. We match Plaid three ways: a script loaded from plaid.com, the Plaid object that the Link script creates, and a Plaid entry in the Content-Security-Policy header, which lists the outside scripts a page is allowed to run. The first two mean Link is on the page. The third only means someone gave it permission. Our post on technology detection methods covers header signals like this one.
So we split the 3,891 domains where Plaid is live today by what we saw. 1,973 (50.7%) ran Plaid Link. 1,042 (26.8%) land on X or Airbnb, whose security policies list Plaid's Link script: most are vanity domains forwarding to X profiles, 159 of them on hosts named twitter. or x., plus Airbnb's own country sites. The remaining 876 (22.5%) showed no sign of Link running, and most of the ones we fetched list Plaid in their security policy. They are mostly bank and credit-union sites and account-opening portals.
Sales Signal: Treat the 1,973 as confirmed Plaid integrations and the 876 as intent: a bank that allowlists Plaid on an apply. or open. page has at least planned for it in onboarding. Ignore the X and Airbnb rows.
Growth trajectory: a coverage curve
The chart climbs from 2,158 domains in June 2026 to 3,835 in September. The domains we crawl turn over every month, with dead sites dropping out and newly found ones added, and our detection signals widened in the same months; 30% of today's live Plaid domains were first seen in August or September. Churn is small and noisy: 288 domains have dropped a detection since March 2026, and 47.1% of those had been seen only once.
"Half of Plaid's web footprint is Plaid Link running on the page. The rest is security policies that mention it, and more than a quarter of the total is X and Airbnb. That split matters more than any trend line." - David Thomson, CTO at TechnologyChecker.io
Sales Signal: Don't time outreach off this curve. Plaid's growth happens inside apps, and no website crawl can chart it.
Customer profile: platforms and application portals
Much of the Plaid Link we see was put there by a platform, not chosen site by site. About 400 domains are synagogue websites on ShulCloud, whose help pages tell members to enable Plaid to pay dues and donations by ACH. Fraternity and sorority member portals fill 11 of the 50 named organisations, and donation pages are everywhere: across all live Plaid domains, 169 of the 187 give. and donate. hosts load Link. Classy, a fundraising platform, is detected on 171 Plaid domains.
Banks look different. Their detections sit on application hosts, and there the signal is usually the security policy: only 16 of 77 apply. hosts loaded Link on the page we crawled. TD Bank (homelending.td.com), U.S. Bank (mortgageapply.usbank.com) and Truist (getstarted.truist.com) are detected the same way, through the security policy. Size splits the same way: 49.85% of matched organisations have 1 to 10 employees, yet 44 have more than 1,000. Two of the named companies, Coinbase and Ramp, also appear in Plaid's own published customer stories.
Sales Signal: Selling to congregations, chapters or charities means selling to the platform (ShulCloud, the member-portal vendor, the donation tool). For banks, an apply. host that allowlists Plaid points at a digital-onboarding team.
Industry and geographic concentration
Banking (15.87%) and Financial Services (12.55%) together reach 28.42% of matched organisations. Religious Institutions is third at 9.62%, mostly ShulCloud congregations, and Non-profit Organizations fourth at 7.35%. Without the X and Airbnb domains the shape sharpens: Banking rises to 19.5%, Financial Services to 14.82% and Religious Institutions to 11.76%.
On the web this is an American product. 1,879 matched organisations are in the United States, against 97 in the United Kingdom and 76 in Canada, and part of that small foreign tail is X and Airbnb: the UK falls to 63 once they are removed.
Sales Signal: Outside North America, a Plaid detection is rare enough to be a lead in itself. Inside it, filter by Banking and by apply. or open. hosts to find institutions building digital account opening.
Rivals we can't see, and a complement we can
Plaid's real competitors are other bank-data aggregators: MX, Finicity (owned by Mastercard), Yodlee and Stripe's Financial Connections. We can't match any of them on websites yet, so there is no switching to measure. The checkout tools in our Payment Processing chart aren't substitutes either, and Plaid isn't a card processor like Braintree or Square. What we can see is the complement: Stripe runs on 1,521 of the 2,849 Plaid sites outside X and Airbnb, which is what you'd expect when one company handles cards and the other connects bank accounts.
"A checkout button is no substitute for Plaid. The switch that matters is between aggregators, and it happens in code behind a login, where a crawler can't watch it." - David Thomson, CTO at TechnologyChecker.io
Sales Signal: These organisations already run cards and bank connections side by side, which is an opening for any tool that combines the two.
Technology ecosystem
On the 2,849 sites outside X and Airbnb, Sentry runs on 24.43%, Datadog on 7.27% and Azure Monitor on 7.13%, the monitoring you'd expect around logged-in account flows. Pendo (15.65%) and Usercentrics (14.71%) look like choices but are mostly ShulCloud's shared stack. Very Good Security, which stores card and bank details on a customer's behalf, appears on 126 sites and Transcend on 175. Duo Security (1.19%) and 1Password (1.09%) are thin.
Sales Signal: The 126 Very Good Security sites handle raw account data themselves, which makes them buyers for compliance and data-security tooling.
G2 review signals
Plaid's G2 base is small, so read it as direction rather than a score. Reviewers praise ease of use most often (10 mentions) and secure connections next (6). The complaints are about reach: access limitations (4), limited bank connectivity (3) and connections dropping (3). Our crawl can't measure coverage. It does show banks themselves, TD Bank, U.S. Bank and Truist among them, allowlisting Plaid on their own application portals, which is the demand side of the same network.
Sales Signal: For a Plaid customer the pain is connections that fail, so lead with connection success rates.
Key takeaways
1. Headline: 3,835 domains, 24th in Payment Processing with 0.05%.
2. What it proves: 1,973 of the 3,891 live domains run Plaid Link; 1,042 land on X or Airbnb; 876 only list Plaid in their security policy.
3. Who chose it: platforms (ShulCloud's roughly 400 congregations, member portals, donation tools) more often than individual sites.
4. Floor, not census: Plaid says more than 9,000 apps and services run on it; most of that sits inside apps we can't crawl.
Sales applications
Outreach angle: "Your application site allowlists Plaid Link" is a specific, checkable opener for a bank or credit union's digital team.
Targeting: On TechnologyChecker.io, filter Plaid users by Banking or Financial Services and by more than 200 employees, then check the detection host for apply., open. or mortgage prefixes.
Competitive angle: Plaid's G2 complaints are about banks it can't reach, so an aggregator with different coverage can pitch itself as the fallback rather than the replacement.
All counts here are from TechnologyChecker.io's live crawl as of September 2026, refreshed monthly: 3,835 Plaid domains, 2,498 of them matched to company records.
Frequently Asked Questions
Who uses Plaid?
Our live crawl finds Plaid on 3,835 domains. Organisations that load Plaid Link on their own sites include Veterans United, Pitney Bowes, Children's Hospital of Philadelphia and Digital Federal Credit Union; TD Bank, U.S. Bank and Truist allowlist it on application portals. Banking (15.87%) and Financial Services (12.55%) lead matched industries, followed by Religious Institutions (9.62%), mostly synagogues on the ShulCloud platform.
How many customers does Plaid have?
Plaid says more than 9,000 apps and services are built on it. We detect it on 3,835 websites, and 2,498 match a company record. Only 1,973 of the live domains load Plaid Link on the page; 1,042 land on X or Airbnb, whose security policy lists Plaid. Most integrations live in mobile apps and behind logins, so our count is a floor.
What is Plaid's market share?
Plaid holds 0.05% of Payment Processing and ranks 24th of the 158 technologies we track there. The share is small because the category is led by checkout tools such as PayPal (18.86%) and Apple Pay (15.44%), which sit on public store pages, while Plaid usually runs inside an app or after a login. It measures visibility on public websites, not Plaid's standing in open banking.
What are the best alternatives to Plaid?
Plaid's direct alternatives are other bank-data aggregators: MX, Finicity (owned by Mastercard), Yodlee and Stripe Financial Connections. The payment tools ranked beside Plaid in our Payment Processing chart, such as PayPal and Apple Pay, are not substitutes: they take payments, while Plaid links bank accounts. We don't yet detect any of the aggregators on websites, so we can't publish switching data between them.
Which countries use Plaid the most?
United States leads with 1,879 matched Plaid domains, followed by United Kingdom (97), Canada (76), Australia (25), India (25). These are counts within the 2,498 domains we could match to a company record, not the full detected base.
What size companies use Plaid?
The most common company size is 1-10 employees, representing 49.85% of the Plaid domains we could match to a company record and size — a subset of 2,498 matched companies, not of all 3,835 detected domains. This is followed by 11-50 employees (29.05%) and 51-200 employees (13.59%).

What banks use Plaid?
The question has two meanings. Plaid says it connects to more than 12,000 financial institutions, which is the list of banks its users can link. What apps use Plaid?
Plaid's published customer stories include Coinbase, Ramp, Chime, Robinhood, SoFi and Affirm, and Plaid says more than 9,000 apps and services are built on it. Native apps are invisible to a website crawl, so our list covers websites instead. Coinbase and Ramp appear in both: we detect Plaid on coinbase.com and on app.ramp.com.
Is Plaid a payment processor?
Not in the card sense. Plaid connects a person's bank account to an app so the app can verify the account, check a balance, read transactions or start a bank transfer. It doesn't process card payments, and Plaid says it is not a bank. Card processors often sit beside it: Stripe runs on 1,521 of the 2,849 Plaid sites outside X and Airbnb.
Why do X and Airbnb show up as Plaid users?
Because one of our Plaid signals is the Content-Security-Policy header, the list of outside scripts a page may load, and X and Airbnb both list Plaid's Link script there. 1,042 of the 3,891 live Plaid domains land on one of them, including 159 twitter. and x. subdomains that forward to X profiles. They stay in the headline and charts, but not in the company list or tech stack.
Why do synagogue websites use Plaid?
Because of ShulCloud, a synagogue-management platform. Its help pages tell members to enable Plaid to pay dues and donations by ACH or e-check, so each congregation site that offers bank payments loads Plaid Link. About 400 Plaid domains are ShulCloud congregations sharing one platform stack, which is why Religious Institutions is Plaid's third-largest industry at 9.62%. The choice was ShulCloud's.
How can you tell if a website uses Plaid?
Open the page where you would connect a bank account and filter your browser's network tab for cdn.plaid.com; the Link loader is link-initialize.js. Once it has loaded, typing Plaid in the console returns an object. A Plaid entry in the Content-Security-Policy header shows only permission, not use, as X and Airbnb prove. To check many domains at once, look them up on TechnologyChecker.io.
Is Plaid free?
Consumers pay nothing. Businesses can test on live data for free through Plaid's Limited Production service, up to 200 API calls per product. After that Plaid charges per product, as a one-time fee, a subscription or a per-request fee, on Pay as You Go, Growth (a 12-month commitment) or Custom plans. Many small organisations in our data, such as ShulCloud congregations, get Plaid through a platform instead.
