Companies Using Cisco Duo
Cisco Duo protects workforce logins with multi-factor authentication, single sign-on, and device checks. Duo Security launched in 2010 and was acquired by Cisco in 2018; the product now ships as Cisco Duo.
This page counts organizations that have verified a domain with Duo Single Sign-On, so every entry is a company that finished a real deployment rather than a website carrying a script. We track 21,045 such domains and matched 20,032 of them to company records, the highest match rate of any profile we publish.

Cisco Duo Usage Statistics
Our current records show 21,045 domains publishing a Duo Single Sign-On verification record, up from 18,279 when this technology entered our coverage in June 2026. Read that rise as coverage rather than adoption. Counts are not a like-for-like series over time: the set of domains we crawl turns over every month, with dead sites dropping out and newly discovered ones added, and our detection signals widen over time. Across the same three months our overall detection volume moved further than Duo's did, so Duo's share of everything we see held roughly flat. Three months is a short window, and we would not read a trend into it yet.

Which Countries Use Cisco Duo the Most?
The United States accounts for 70.47% of Duo organizations we can place, ahead of Canada at 4.86% and the United Kingdom at 3.69%. Germany follows at 2.91% and the Netherlands at 2.50%. That concentration is steeper than most categories we cover and it tracks where Duo sells: North American mid-market and public sector buyers, with European presence strongest in the Netherlands and the German-speaking countries. Sales teams working this list outside North America should expect roughly one in four accounts.
Cisco Duo Market Share Among Identity & Access (SSO/CIAM)
Cisco Duo holds 2.15% of the identity and access category and ranks 3rd of 50. That ranking needs an asterisk, because the two entries above it are consumer sign-in buttons rather than access security products: Facebook Login sits on 621,585 domains and Google Sign-in on 219,115, mostly as one-click options on public websites. Duo is the highest-placed workforce access product in the category. The closest comparison by both size and deployment style is 1Password at 20,876 domains, which we detect the same way Duo is detected, through a domain verification record.
Top Competitors by Market Share
Cisco Duo Customers by Company Size & Age
Duo's base sits in the middle of the market. Companies with 51 to 200 staff make up 27.12% and those with 11 to 50 make up 26.10%, so more than half the base is under 200 people. Organizations above 1,000 staff account for 9.73% and those above 10,000 for 1.39%. The useful comparison is 1Password, which we detect through the same kind of domain record at almost the same scale: it runs 5.17% above 1,000 staff and 0.71% above 10,000. Duo carries close to twice the enterprise weight of that peer while still selling mostly to smaller companies.

What Industries Use Cisco Duo the Most?
No single industry dominates. IT services and consulting leads at 6.61%, then hospitals and health care at 4.96%, construction at 4.60%, financial services at 4.24% and government administration at 4.06%. What stands out is how far regulated professional services punch above their weight: law practices are 3.73% of Duo's base against 0.77% for 1Password, a peer we detect exactly the same way. Government administration shows a similar gap, 4.06% against 0.64%. Accounting runs 2.10% against 0.88%.
Those gaps point at a specific buying trigger. Law firms, accountants, clinics and local government are the organizations most often told to turn on multi-factor authentication by someone else, whether a cyber insurance renewal, a client security questionnaire, or a state records rule. They are also small: most sit in the 11 to 200 staff bands where there is no identity team. Duo fits that shape because it can be switched on in front of existing logins without replacing the directory underneath. If you sell compliance-driven security, this base is the map.
Cisco Duo Alternatives & Competitors
Judging Duo against the category leaders is misleading, so compare like with like. Among products we detect through a domain verification record, Duo leads at 21,045 domains, just ahead of 1Password at 20,876, with NordPass at 4,211 and Specops at 594. Against Okta, the comparison people ask for most, the raw gap is 21,045 to 1,529. That gap is mostly about what is visible from outside rather than who has more customers, and the next section explains why.

Cisco Duo Customer Migration
We have watched Duo since March 2026, so these counts are small and cover only what changed in that window. Twelve domains running Duo dropped a competing identity product while we were watching, three each from Microsoft Entra ID and Okta, two from Microsoft's authentication library, and one each from 1Password, NordPass, SimpleSAMLphp and Auth0. One Duo domain moved the other way, to 1Password. Treat this as a direction of travel, not a market share shift. Five months is not long enough to call a trend.
Tech Stack of Cisco Duo-Powered Websites
Duo customers are Microsoft shops. Microsoft 365 appears on 41.36% of Duo domains against 6.88% for Google Workspace, a six to one split that is far wider than the market overall. Dedicated email security is common too, with Mimecast on 9.83%, Barracuda on 8.65%, Microsoft Defender on 7.19% and Proofpoint on 5.72%. One pattern is worth flagging for anyone selling Cisco: Webex appears on 8.47% of Duo domains and Zoom on 5.94%, even though Zoom is the larger product across our whole corpus by a wide margin. Duo accounts are roughly twice as likely to be Webex accounts as the market would predict.

Cisco Duo Customer Reviews with Pros and Cons
Reviewers agree on the shape of the product: it goes in quickly and users stop noticing it. Ease of use and fast deployment take the top four positive themes on G2 by some distance. The complaints are the mirror image of the same design. Push-based approval needs a working phone, so reviewers who lose signal or miss the prompt get locked out, and 23 of them said so. Alert fatigue and setup complexity on older systems round out the criticism.
Generated from real user reviews on G2
- The most-cited strength is ease of use: reviewers describe getting Duo in front of their logins with little effort and no long rollout.(68 reviews)
- Deployment speed is the second theme. Administrators report standing the product up without the project overhead they expected from an authentication change.(65 reviews)
- Reviewers value access from any device, approving a prompt on whichever phone or tablet is to hand rather than carrying a dedicated token.(45 reviews)
- Security that stays out of the way comes up repeatedly: the second factor is added without making the daily sign-in harder for staff.(43 reviews)
- The fit with existing systems is praised by reviewers who kept their current directory and applications in place and layered Duo on top.(37 reviews)
- The most common complaint is being locked out without a signal. Push approval needs a working phone, so reviewers with no reception cannot get in.(23 reviews)
- Sign-in delays are the next theme, with reviewers describing prompts that stretch a routine login into something slower than it should be.(16 reviews)
- Setup complexity draws criticism from first-time administrators, particularly where older systems have to be brought into the rollout.(15 reviews)
- Reviewers report unreliable notifications, including prompts that fail to arrive and alert fatigue from approving the same thing repeatedly.(15 reviews)
- Slow response times round out the criticism, with the wait for a prompt adding friction to every session.(14 reviews)
Expert Analysis: Cisco Duo Growth Trends & Key Signals for Sales Teams in 2026

Cisco Duo is easier to count than most identity products, and the reason says something useful about how it is bought. TechnologyChecker.io verifies 21,045 organizations publishing a Duo Single Sign-On domain record as of August 24, 2026, and we matched 20,032 of them to a company profile. That 90.8% match rate is the highest of any technology we have profiled. Nothing about Duo makes its customers more findable. The detection surface does.
Why this count behaves differently from Okta's
Duo Single Sign-On requires an organization to prove it controls the email domains its people log in with. Cisco's documentation is explicit about the method: you add a DNS TXT record to that domain's public DNS, then Duo queries for it before it will accept logins from that domain. The record sits on the customer's own domain, in public DNS, and it carries a token unique to that organization. We checked 40 of the largest accounts on this page by hand and found the record still resolving on 39, each with its own token.
Compare that with how Okta becomes visible. Okta's workforce product runs on tenants Okta hosts, so an employee signing into Salesforce through Okta never touches their employer's public web presence. We see Okta only when a company puts a branded sign-in page on its own domain, which is why our Okta count is 1,529 against a customer base the company reports near 20,000. Duo's 21,045 and Okta's 1,529 are not a market share statement. They are two different questions answered by two different mechanisms.
The 13x gap between our Duo and Okta counts reflects where each product leaves a public trace, not how many customers each one has. Anyone quoting it as a competitive fact is reading the wrong thing off the page.
Duo's number carries its own limits, and they run in one direction. The DNS record is required for Duo Single Sign-On, not for Duo's multi-factor authentication on its own, so any organization using Duo Push without the SSO product is invisible here. Cisco's documentation also states that the record may be deleted once verification succeeds, so accounts that tidied up their DNS drop out of view. Both effects push the same way. Treat 21,045 as a floor on Duo Single Sign-On deployments, and Duo Single Sign-On as a subset of Duo overall.
The base is smaller than the logo wall suggests
The companies listed on this page skew enormous: HCLTech, Reliance Industries, Shell, Tech Mahindra, Orange, Uber, Honeywell. Sorting by headcount always produces that list. The distribution tells a different story. Organizations with 51 to 200 staff are 27.12% of the base and those with 11 to 50 are 26.10%, so 53% of Duo customers sit under 200 people. Companies above 1,000 staff are 9.73%, and above 10,000 just 1.39%.
Reading that as evidence that Duo is weaker in the enterprise than its rivals would be a mistake, because the comparison has to hold the detection method still. 1Password is the right control: same category, same domain verification record, 20,876 domains against Duo's 21,045. On that peer, organizations above 1,000 staff are 5.17% and above 10,000 are 0.71%. Duo carries close to twice the enterprise weight of a peer measured identically. The mid-market skew is real, and Duo is still the more enterprise product of the two.
Compliance is doing the selling
The industry mix is where Duo separates from everything around it. Law practices are 3.73% of Duo's base. On 1Password, detected the same way, they are 0.77%. Government administration runs 4.06% against 0.64%. Accounting is 2.10% against 0.88%. Hospitals and health care reach 4.96% against 2.07%. These are not small differences and they survive the control, so they describe Duo's buyers rather than an artifact of how we find them.
Those four verticals have something in common that has little to do with technology. They are the organizations most likely to be told to deploy multi-factor authentication by someone outside the building: a cyber insurance underwriter at renewal, a corporate client sending a security questionnaire, a state or federal records rule, a health privacy audit. They are also small, sitting in exactly the 11 to 200 staff bands where nobody has an identity team. Duo suits that buyer because it goes in front of the logins already in place instead of replacing the directory beneath them.
Duo's strongest verticals are the ones where somebody else decides that multi-factor authentication is mandatory. That is a different sales motion from platform identity, and it explains the age profile: 26.51% of these organizations were founded before 1960.
What the surrounding stack tells a seller
Duo accounts are Microsoft accounts. Microsoft 365 appears on 41.36% of Duo domains against 6.88% running Google Workspace. A six to one split is far outside the market norm and it makes sense given where Duo is usually installed, in front of Active Directory and Microsoft-centred application estates. Dedicated email security is common on top: Mimecast 9.83%, Barracuda 8.65%, Microsoft Defender 7.19%, Proofpoint 5.72%, Sophos 4.15%. These are organizations already paying for layered security.
One overlap deserves attention from anyone selling the Cisco portfolio. Webex appears on 8.47% of Duo domains and Zoom on 5.94%, yet across our full corpus Zoom is much the larger product, 44,288 domains against Webex's 26,661. Correcting for that, a Duo account is about twice as likely to be a Webex account as the market would predict. Both products are detected through the same kind of domain record, so the comparison is clean. Cisco cross-sell is visible in the data.
Churn, and what we can honestly say about it
TechnologyChecker.io began tracking Duo in March 2026, so our churn history is five months deep and the counts are correspondingly small. In that window 194 domains stopped publishing a Duo record. Twelve domains running Duo dropped a competing identity product while we watched, three each from Microsoft Entra ID and Okta, two from Microsoft's authentication library, and one each from 1Password, NordPass, SimpleSAMLphp and Auth0. One went the other way, to 1Password. The direction favours Duo. The sample does not yet support calling it a trend, and we would rather say that than dress up twelve domains as a migration wave.
How to use this list
If you sell security to the mid-market, this is a qualified list in a way most technology footprints are not. Every domain here belongs to an organization that completed a DNS change to finish an identity rollout, which means budget was approved and somebody owns it. Filter to law, accounting, health care and local government under 200 staff and you have the compliance-driven buyer. Filter to Microsoft 365 without a dedicated email gateway and you have an obvious gap. If you sell against Duo, the 1Password overlap and the Entra ID movement are the two places where accounts are actually changing hands.

What companies use Cisco Duo?
We verify 21,045 organizations publishing a Duo Single Sign-On domain record, including Shell, Uber, Honeywell, TD Bank, ADP, Lowe's, Orange, Deutsche Telekom and Cisco itself. Health systems and universities are heavily represented, with Ascension, Atrium Health, NYU and Arizona State all present. The full list on this page is sorted by organization size and every entry publishes a live record.
How many companies use Duo Security?
Our records show 21,045 domains with a verified Duo Single Sign-On record, and we matched 20,032 of those to a company profile. Treat that as a floor rather than a total. The record is required for Duo Single Sign-On but not for Duo's multi-factor authentication alone, so organizations running only Duo Push do not appear in this count at all.
Is Duo Security the same as Cisco Duo?
Yes. Duo Security launched in 2010 and Cisco acquired it in 2018 for roughly 2.35 billion dollars. The product is now marketed as Cisco Duo, and Cisco's review listings have been renamed to match. Many people still search for the original name, so both refer to the same multi-factor authentication and access security platform.
What does Cisco Duo actually do?
Duo checks a second factor before letting someone into an application. Most users approve a push notification in the Duo Mobile app. Beyond that it offers single sign-on, passwordless login, and device trust, which blocks logins from machines that fail health checks. It sits in front of existing logins rather than replacing the directory underneath them.
How much does Cisco Duo cost per month?
Cisco publishes per-user monthly pricing with a free tier for very small teams, then paid tiers that add single sign-on, device trust and passwordless. Pricing changes often enough that we do not restate figures here. Check duo.com for current rates, and note that the single sign-on feature this page measures usually sits above the entry-level paid tier.
Why do people compare Duo and Okta?
Both secure workforce logins, so buyers shortlist them together. Our counts look lopsided, 21,045 domains for Duo against 1,529 for Okta, but that gap is about visibility rather than customers. Duo requires a public DNS record we can read, while most Okta activity happens on tenants Okta hosts and leaves no public trace. Do not read the ratio as market share.
Which industries use Duo the most?
IT services leads at 6.61%, followed by hospitals and health care at 4.96%, construction at 4.60% and financial services at 4.24%. The distinctive ones are regulated professional services: law practices are 3.73% of Duo's base against 0.77% for a peer detected the same way, and government administration is 4.06% against 0.64%. Compliance pressure appears to drive those deployments.
Where are Duo customers located?
The United States accounts for 70.47% of Duo organizations we can place, well ahead of Canada at 4.86% and the United Kingdom at 3.69%. Germany follows at 2.91% and the Netherlands at 2.50%. That is a steeper North American concentration than most categories we track, so prospecting lists built outside the region will be roughly a quarter of the total.
What email platform do Duo customers run?
Overwhelmingly Microsoft. Microsoft 365 appears on 41.36% of Duo domains against 6.88% running Google Workspace, a six to one split. Many pair it with a dedicated email gateway: Mimecast on 9.83%, Barracuda on 8.65%, Microsoft Defender on 7.19% and Proofpoint on 5.72%. These are organizations already buying layered security rather than relying on defaults.
How do you detect which companies use Duo?
Duo Single Sign-On requires an organization to prove control of its login domains by publishing a DNS TXT record, and Duo queries that record before accepting logins. We read the same public record. Each one carries a token unique to that organization, so a detection means a completed deployment rather than a script copied onto a web page.
Can Duo track my phone or see my browsing?
Duo Mobile is an authentication app, not a monitoring tool. It handles approval prompts and generates passcodes. It does not read your browsing history. Administrators can see authentication events, which device approved a login and whether that device met policy, and on company-managed phones they may see device health attributes through the device trust feature.
Is Cisco Duo legitimate?
Yes. Duo is a Cisco product used by banks, hospitals, universities and government agencies. Our data verifies 21,045 organizations with an active Duo Single Sign-On record, among them Shell, TD Bank and Ascension. If Duo appeared on your phone unexpectedly, your employer or university most likely enabled it on your account rather than anything being wrong.
Are companies moving away from Duo?
Not on what we have seen. We began tracking Duo in March 2026, and in that window twelve domains running Duo dropped a competing identity product, three each from Microsoft Entra ID and Okta. One moved from Duo to 1Password. The direction favours Duo, though five months and twelve domains are too little to call a trend.
