Companies Using Azure Monitor

Our live crawl finds 34,255 websites using Azure Monitor, with 18,057 matched to a company record. One host does the detecting: js.monitor.azure.com, which serves the Application Insights browser SDK. So this counts sites loading browser telemetry, a floor on Azure Monitor use overall: server and infrastructure telemetry never reaches a web page. The companies using Azure Monitor in our data include Ericsson, Qatar Airways and the California Highway Patrol, and other brands that use Azure Monitor include LEGO and Saab. Our list of companies using Azure Monitor breaks that base down by size, country, industry and stack.

Azure Monitor ranks 8th of 58 tracked technologies in APM & Error Tracking, on a 1.23% share. Sentry leads the category, but error tracking is a different job. The honest comparison is New Relic (237,100 domains) and Datadog (169,896). Most companies using Azure Monitor are large institutions, and many websites using Azure Monitor are a single subdomain: Lumen's controlcenter.lumen.com, Chubb's hub.apac.chubb.com. The top companies using Azure Monitor follow that pattern too. Data analysed September 23, 2026.

Azure Monitor Usage Statistics

Our crawl detected Azure Monitor on 34,255 active domains in September 2026, up from 20,487 in June. Most of that climb is coverage rather than adoption: of the 10,221 domains that first showed the Application Insights SDK in July, 9,347 were sites our crawl reached for the first time within three days. The line is not a like-for-like series either, because the set of domains we crawl turns over every month as dead sites drop out and newly found ones are added, and our detection signals widen over time.

The last two months read cleaner. In August only 837 of 2,902 new detections were new-to-crawl domains, and in September 197 of 1,242, so those additions mostly landed on sites we were already watching, based on our live crawl at TechnologyChecker.io.

List of Companies Using Azure Monitor

Our list of companies using Azure Monitor is sorted by company size, so the largest brands that use Azure Monitor come first: Ericsson, Koç Group, Qatar Airways, Lumen and Pemex among them. Check the detection column before you read anything into a logo. Many websites using Azure Monitor are single applications rather than a whole estate, such as claim-services.travelers.com, myuk.uky.edu and bmvonline.dps.ohio.gov. Others, including www.ericsson.com, qatarairways.com and met.police.uk, carry it on the main domain.

Which Countries Use Azure Monitor the Most?

Which countries use Azure Monitor the most? The United States leads with 8,952 of the 17,668 companies we placed in a country (50.67%), followed by the United Kingdom (2,006, 11.35%) and Australia (889, 5.03%). Northern Europe is the surprise. The Netherlands (728), Norway (643), Sweden (618) and Denmark (423) contribute 2,412 between them, well past Canada, Germany and France combined, which is unusual for a US cloud product and fits the public health and industrial names in the list, based on our enriched company data.

Azure Monitor Market Share Among APM & Error Tracking

What is Azure Monitor's market share? Azure Monitor holds a 1.23% share of the APM & Error Tracking market and ranks 8th of 58 tracked technologies, based on our monthly crawl of roughly 29.9 million live domains. Read the rank with the detection rule in mind: we see the Application Insights browser SDK, so this share measures web-page telemetry, not Azure Monitor's server or container coverage. Sentry takes 71.7% of the category because error tracking sits in almost every JavaScript app. Against the other monitoring suites, New Relic (8.51%) and Datadog (6.1%), Azure Monitor has the smaller web footprint.

Azure Monitor Customers by Company Size & Age

Is Azure Monitor only for enterprises? No. 35.79% of the 16,798 sized companies employ ten people or fewer, and much of that is small municipal bodies that inherited the SDK from their website platform rather than buying it. Real enterprise use is still heavy: 1,706 companies (10.16%) employ more than 1,000 people, among them Ericsson, McKesson and Qatar Airways, from our analysis of 18,057 enriched companies at TechnologyChecker.io.

Company Size Distribution

Company Age (Founded Decade)

The age profile is unusually old. 32.23% of the 9,225 companies with a founding year predate 1960, more than the 2010s (16.82%) and 2000s (14.33%) put together, and only 6.16% were founded in the 2020s. That is a base of universities, hospitals, utilities, insurers and city governments, the kind of organisation that already runs a Microsoft estate and instruments its public site through it, based on our enriched company data.

What Industries Use Azure Monitor the Most?

Government Administration shows as the top industry at 14.11%, and one platform explains most of it. 1,585 of those 2,229 government domains belong to the CivicPlus fleet, a US municipal website product whose telemetry the SDK is, so city halls, libraries and police departments inherit it rather than choose it. Strip the fleet out and government falls to 4.84%, barely ahead of Financial Services at 4.18%, which is the honest read of the industry mix at TechnologyChecker.io.

Government Administration2,229 (14.11%)
Financial Services557 (3.53%)
Hospitals and Health Care556 (3.52%)
Software Development522 (3.3%)
IT Services and IT Consulting496 (3.14%)
Retail475 (3.01%)

Government organisations using Azure Monitor are the largest vertical on paper, though the CivicPlus fleet accounts for 3,274 of the 34,576 live domains (9.5%) and most of that column. Healthcare providers using Azure Monitor reach 3.52% and include Northwell Health on feinstein.northwell.edu, Providence on mychartor.providence.org and UCLA Health. Insurance companies on Azure Monitor account for 2.52%, with Chubb, Travelers and Farmers Insurance in the list, based on our enriched company data.

Azure Monitor Alternatives & Competitors

The category table is topped by a tool doing a different job. Sentry (71.7%) sits on 1,997,888 domains because error tracking is a default in JavaScript projects. The suites are the real comparison: New Relic (8.51%, 237,100 domains) and Datadog (6.1%, 169,896) both out-reach Azure Monitor on the open web, with Boomerang (2.13%) and Google Cloud Trace (1.97%) behind, based on our market share data across roughly 29.9 million crawled domains.

Only 39.48% of these domains also show our Azure hosting signal, and that signal is itself a floor, since plenty of Azure-hosted sites give nothing away in their headers. The reading still holds: this is not an Azure-hosting-only audience. Cloudflare fronts 45.36%, nine times Azure Edge Network's 5.05%, and Google Analytics runs on 69.34%, so engineering owns the Application Insights beacon while marketing measures elsewhere.

One oddity is worth a line: Alpine.js at 16.04% beats Vue (7.15%) and React (6.92%) combined. Alpine is what you add to a server-rendered template, so this base is institutional CMS sites rather than single-page apps, across the 34,576 live domains in our crawl.

Expert Analysis: Azure Monitor Growth Trends & Key Signals for Sales Teams in 2026

David Thomson
David ThomsonCTO, TechnologyChecker

A decade of building crawling infrastructure, first on Google Search and now at TechnologyChecker.io, has taught me to read the detection rule before the number. As of our September 2026 crawl we see Azure Monitor on 34,255 domains and hold company records for 18,057. The rule matches one host, js.monitor.azure.com, which serves the Application Insights browser SDK. So this describes sites loading browser telemetry: Azure Monitor's server and infrastructure collection is invisible to a crawler, which makes 34,255 a floor, not a customer count.

Growth trajectory

The chart runs from 20,487 domains in June 2026 to 34,255 in September, and the early part is us, not them. Of the 10,221 domains that first showed the SDK in July, 9,347 were sites our crawl reached for the first time within three days. These counts are not a like-for-like series: the domains we crawl turn over monthly as dead sites drop out and newly found ones are added, and our detection signals widen over time.

August and September are the readable months. In August, 837 of 2,902 new detections were new-to-crawl domains; in September, 197 of 1,242. The rest landed on sites we were already watching, the closest this series gets to adoption. Going the other way, 2,763 domains dropped Azure Monitor since we began tracking it in March 2026, and 43.8% of those rows were seen only once.

Sales Signal: Don't build a churn play on the 2,763. With 43.8% single sightings, most of that pool is a script that briefly disappeared, not a decision. The usable signal is the August and September additions.

"Nine thousand of the ten thousand domains that appeared in July were ones we had only just started crawling. That is our coverage moving, not Microsoft's install base. Read a technographic chart without asking which months are coverage and you'll buy a story that never happened." - David Thomson, CTO at TechnologyChecker.io

Customer profile

Two numbers describe this base better than any label. 32.23% of the 9,225 companies with a founding year predate 1960, and 1,706 of 16,798 sized companies employ more than 1,000 people. Old and institutional: Ericsson, McKesson, Pemex, Securitas, Sandvik, Teva, the Metropolitan Police.

The small half means something else. 35.79% have ten employees or fewer, mostly municipal bodies that got the SDK with their website platform. Check the detection host on enterprise rows too: Lumen's is controlcenter.lumen.com, Chubb's hub.apac.chubb.com, Travelers' claim-services.travelers.com. Single applications instrumented by one team, not company-wide contracts. Microsoft instruments its own techcommunity.microsoft.com the same way.

Sales Signal: Filter for the 1,706 companies above 1,000 employees and read the detection URL, not the domain. A portal subdomain means one application team picked Application Insights, a warm entry for anything that plugs into an Azure estate.

Industry and geographic concentration

Government Administration looks like the story at 14.11%. It isn't. 3,274 of the 34,576 live domains (9.5%) belong to CivicPlus, the US municipal website platform, identified by a shared docaccess.com/docbox.js asset, confirmed on four of four sampled sites. 1,585 of the 2,229 government rows are that fleet. Remove it and government falls to 4.84%, a hair ahead of Financial Services at 4.18%.

Geography beats the usual US-then-UK shape. The United States holds 8,952 of 17,668 placed companies (50.67%) and the UK 2,006 (11.35%), but the Netherlands, Norway, Sweden and Denmark contribute 2,412 between them, past Canada, Germany and France combined. Nordic health bodies run heavy Microsoft estates: Helse Sor-Ost, Region Stockholm and DNV all appear.

Sales Signal: Treat Government Administration as two markets. The CivicPlus fleet is one platform decision, so you sell to CivicPlus, not 3,274 city halls. The other 644 government domains are individual buyers, and the Nordic cluster is the least crowded slice of them.

What the legacy CDN shows

The same SDK also ships from an older host, az416426.vo.msecnd.net, which we count separately. It covers 33,921 domains against 34,576 on the current host. 23,612 carry both, 10,309 are legacy-only, the union is 44,885 domains, and neither set contains the other, roughly 68% each way. That's a migration in progress: two thirds of the legacy population has added the current host, ten thousand haven't started.

No migration table ships here, and this is why. Of the 2,555 domains that left, Sentry sits on 5.32% against 4.4% of stayers, a 1.21x lift nowhere near our 2x bar. New Relic is commoner among stayers (1.02% against 0.59%). Datadog's 28 leavers fall under our floor of 50. Monitoring tools stack rather than replace each other, and a page dropping this SDK has usually just stopped instrumenting the browser.

Sales Signal: The 10,309 legacy-only domains are the cleanest list here. They run an SDK build Microsoft has moved past, a checkable reason to open a conversation, and they already use the Azure Monitor data model.

"Two thirds of the sites on the old SDK host have already added the new one. That isn't churn, it's a slow rollout, and the ten thousand that haven't moved are usually the ones with nobody maintaining the front end." - David Thomson, CTO at TechnologyChecker.io

Technology ecosystem

The number I expected to be high is low. Only 39.48% of these domains also show our Azure hosting signal, itself a floor, so call it four in ten at minimum. Plenty of these sites are hosted elsewhere: Cloudflare fronts 45.36%, nine times Azure Edge Network's 5.05%, and Amazon Web Services covers 7.99%.

Google Analytics runs on 69.34%: engineering owns the Application Insights beacon, marketing owns the analytics. Siteimprove (3.10%) and Monsido (2.31%) both show up, public-sector web governance tools, the CivicPlus fleet again. The framework column is odder. Alpine.js at 16.04% beats Vue (7.15%) and React (6.92%) combined, and Alpine is what you add to a server-rendered template, so this base is institutional CMS sites, not single-page apps.

Sales Signal: A domain running Application Insights and Cloudflare but no Azure hosting signal is a hybrid estate, buying observability for a front end hosted somewhere else. Reachable without moving the whole stack.

Key takeaways

1. 34,255 domains is a floor, not a customer count. The rule sees one host serving the Application Insights browser SDK; server and container telemetry stays invisible.

2. The June to July step is coverage. 9,347 of July's 10,221 new detections were domains we had just started crawling.

3. Government at 14.11% is one platform. CivicPlus supplies 3,274 domains and 1,585 of the 2,229 government rows; the honest figure is 4.84%.

4. The install base is old and large. 32.23% of dated companies predate 1960, 10.16% employ over 1,000 people, and the Nordics over-index.

5. The SDK migration is two thirds done. 23,612 domains run both hosts, 10,309 remain legacy-only, union 44,885.

Sales applications

Outreach template. For a legacy-only domain: "You're still loading the Application Insights SDK from az416426.vo.msecnd.net. We track 44,885 domains running it, and 23,612 have already added the current host. Worth ten minutes on what your front-end telemetry is missing?" Checkable in a browser network tab, and it claims nothing about their contract.

Targeting strategy. On TechnologyChecker.io, filter the 18,057 enriched companies to 1,000-plus employees, exclude Government Administration to drop the CivicPlus fleet, then sort by whether the detection sits on a portal subdomain. That leaves application owners, not procurement.

Competitive angle. Pitch alongside Azure Monitor, not against it. Our leaver analysis found no corridor to Sentry, New Relic or Datadog, because these tools coexist. G2 rates Azure Monitor 4.3 out of 5 across 107 reviews, so this is not an unhappy base.

Every figure here comes from our own crawl: 34,255 domains loading the Application Insights browser SDK and 18,057 enriched companies with size, country, industry and founding year attached. Browse the list on TechnologyChecker.io and export what you need.

A detection means the technology is present on that domain, which for large organisations is often a single storefront or subdomain rather than a company-wide deployment. Among domains we matched to a company with a resolved industry, the most common is Government Administration (14.11%).

How many customers does Azure Monitor have?

We detect 34,255 domains running Azure Monitor across our monthly crawl of live business domains. Company data could be matched for 18,057 of them (52.7%), and every company-size, industry and country breakdown on this page describes that matched subset rather than the full detected base. A further 2,763 domains carried a Azure Monitor detection previously and no longer do.

What is Azure Monitor's market share?

Azure Monitor holds 1.23% of the APM & Error Tracking category, ranking #8. This is a share of the domains we detect running a platform in this category — not a share of all websites, and not a share of spending — so it is not directly comparable to figures published on other denominators.

What are the best alternatives to Azure Monitor?

The top alternatives to Azure Monitor include Sentry (71.7% market share), New Relic (8.51% market share), Datadog (6.1% market share), Boomerang (2.13% market share) — measured as a share of the domains we detect running a platform in this category.

Which countries use Azure Monitor the most?

United States leads with 8,952 matched Azure Monitor domains, followed by United Kingdom (2,006), Australia (889), Netherlands (728), Norway (643). These are counts within the 18,057 domains we could match to a company record, not the full detected base.

What size companies use Azure Monitor?

The most common company size is 1-10 employees, representing 35.79% of the Azure Monitor domains we could match to a company record and size — a subset of 18,057 matched companies, not of all 34,255 detected domains. This is followed by 11-50 employees (22.19%) and 51-200 employees (17.39%).

How old are companies that use Azure Monitor?

Among the Azure Monitor domains we could match to a company with a known founding date, the largest group was founded in the Pre-1960 (32.23%), followed by the 2010s (16.82%). That matched subset is drawn from 18,057 companies and is not representative of all 34,255 detected domains. This suggests Azure Monitor is most popular among established companies.

What is the ideal customer profile for Azure Monitor?

The ideal Azure Monitor customer is: Company Size: 1-10 or 1,000+ employees, Location: US, UK, or Nordics, Founded: Pre-1960, Industry: Government, finance, healthcare, Stack: Azure or Cloudflare, Google Analytics — based on our analysis of 18,057 enriched companies at TechnologyChecker.io.

What is Azure Monitor used for?

Azure Monitor collects metrics, logs and traces from applications, servers, containers and Azure resources, then alerts and dashboards on them. Application Insights is its application performance monitoring feature, and the browser part of it reports page load times, failed requests and client-side errors. Our crawl only sees that browser piece, on 34,255 domains.

Is Azure Monitor the same as Application Insights?

Not quite. Microsoft documents Application Insights as an application performance monitoring feature of Azure Monitor, so Azure Monitor is the umbrella service and Application Insights is one part of it. Readers search both names for the same thing. Our detection matches the Application Insights browser SDK specifically, served from js.monitor.azure.com.

Is Application Insights deprecated?

No. The product is still current. What retired was classic, non-workspace-based Application Insights resources, which reached end of support on 29 February 2024, with Microsoft's guidance being to migrate to workspace-based resources. The SDK itself is actively used: we see it on 34,255 live domains, including Ericsson, Qatar Airways and the Metropolitan Police.

How can you tell if a website uses Application Insights?

Open the browser's network tab and look for a script loaded from js.monitor.azure.com, typically ai.3.gbl.min.js, or a Content-Security-Policy header naming that host. Older installs ship the same SDK from az416426.vo.msecnd.net instead. Those three signals are exactly what TechnologyChecker.io matches on, and finding any one of them is what puts a domain in this list.

How much does Azure Monitor cost?

Azure Monitor is consumption-priced: you pay for data ingested, retained and exported, plus alerting, rather than a per-seat licence. Rates vary by region and by how long you keep the data, so check Microsoft's own Azure Monitor pricing page for current figures. We do not track pricing and publish no cost estimate of our own.

What are Azure Monitor insights?

Insights are Azure Monitor's pre-built monitoring experiences for a specific resource type: Application Insights for applications, plus packaged views for virtual machines, containers, storage and networks. Each one wires up the relevant metrics, logs and workbooks so you do not build the dashboard yourself. Only the application one leaves a signal a web crawler can detect.

Do companies using Azure Monitor have to run on Azure?

No, and plenty do not. Just 39.48% of the domains loading the Application Insights SDK also show our Azure hosting signal, and that signal is a floor, so the true figure is somewhat higher. Cloudflare fronts 45.36% of the same domains and Amazon Web Services covers 7.99%. Application Insights instruments the page, wherever it is hosted.

How does Azure Monitor compare to Datadog?

On web-page footprint, Datadog is bigger. Our data puts Datadog on 169,896 domains with a 6.1% category share, against 34,255 domains and 1.23% for Azure Monitor. That measures browser instrumentation only, and both products do far more server and infrastructure monitoring than a crawler can observe, so read it as reach on the public web, not as product scope.

What is the best monitoring tool for Azure?

Our data cannot rank product quality, only footprint. Azure Monitor is the native option and the one Microsoft integrates with Azure resources directly, which is why 39.48% of its detected domains also show Azure hosting. New Relic (237,100 domains) and Datadog (169,896) are the main third-party alternatives, and monitoring tools frequently run side by side.

Why do so many government websites show Application Insights?

One platform explains it. CivicPlus, the US municipal website product, accounts for 3,274 of the 34,576 live domains we detect (9.5%), and 1,585 of the 2,229 government rows. Those city halls, libraries and police departments inherit the SDK from the platform. Remove the fleet and Government Administration drops from 14.11% to 4.84%.

What are the top monitoring tools by website footprint?

Across roughly 29.9 million live domains, TechnologyChecker.io ranks Sentry first at 1,997,888 domains (71.7% of the APM and error tracking category), then New Relic (237,100), Datadog (169,896), Boomerang (59,383) and Google Cloud Trace (54,964). Azure Monitor sits 8th of 58 tracked technologies. Footprint counts browser instrumentation, not revenue or feature depth.

Which industries use Application Insights the most?

Government Administration leads at 14.11%, but a single municipal website platform supplies 1,585 of those 2,229 domains. Discount it and the real order is Financial Services, Hospitals and Health Care (3.52%), Software Development (3.30%) and IT Services (3.14%). Insurance adds 2.52%, with Chubb, Travelers and Farmers Insurance among the detected names.

Why did Azure Monitor detections rise between June and September 2026?

Mostly because our coverage moved, not because adoption jumped. Of the 10,221 domains first showing the SDK in July, 9,347 were sites our crawl had just reached. The crawled set also turns over monthly as dead sites drop out and newly found ones are added, and our signals widen. August and September additions largely landed on domains we already watched.
