Companies Using Contentful

Our live crawl sees Contentful on 4,346 domains, resolving to 2,532 identifiable companies. Companies that use Contentful in this data include P&G, Pizza Hut, KFC, Nationwide, Cigna, Kraft Heinz, Atlassian and HelloFresh. We print the host each one was detected on, because it is often a preference centre, a help site or a landing page rather than the homepage.

Treat the number as a floor. Contentful is a headless CMS, and most sites built on it fetch content at build time or on the server, which leaves nothing for a browser to see. Of 5,246 domains in our crawl that load files from Contentful's asset domain, only 506 (9.6%) are in the count on this page. So who uses Contentful? Many more Contentful customers than any crawler-based list can show, ours included.

How Many Companies Use Contentful? Why Every Count Is a Floor

We count a domain as using Contentful when the page, as a browser loads it, calls Contentful's delivery APIs (cdn.contentful.com or graphql.contentful.com) or returns one of Contentful's own response headers. That happens when a site fetches content in the visitor's browser. Most Contentful sites don't. A typical build pulls the content on the server, often in Next.js, and ships finished HTML, so the API call never reaches the browser.

The asset domain shows how much that hides. Contentful stores images and files on ctfassets.net, and our crawl records 5,246 domains loading files from it. Only 506 of them, 9.6%, are among the 4,346 counted here. Treat that ratio as a rough guide rather than a correction factor: the asset figure is itself sampled, and an occasional ctfassets file can belong to a third-party widget rather than the site's own CMS.

How to check a site yourself:

  • Image or file URLs on images.ctfassets.net, assets.ctfassets.net or videos.ctfassets.net
  • Network requests to cdn.contentful.com, preview.contentful.com or graphql.contentful.com
  • An x-contentful-request-id response header

Any one of these is good evidence. Their absence proves nothing, which is also why published customer counts for Contentful vary so widely from one data provider to the next.

Contentful Usage Statistics

Contentful reads 3,465 domains in June 2026 and 4,346 in September. We wouldn't call that growth. Counts are not a like-for-like series over time: the set of domains we crawl turns over every month, with dead sites dropping out and newly discovered ones added, and our detection signals widen over time. The rise reflects those changes on our side at least as much as anything Contentful did. Read September as the current floor.

List of Companies Using Contentful

This list of companies using Contentful is ordered by company size. Look at the detection hosts: preferencecenter.pg.com, landing.kfc.com, developer.nationwide.com, support.atlassian.com, help.asana.com, activities.easyjet.com and apply.deakin.edu.au. Large brands that use Contentful often surface through one property such as a preference centre, a developer portal or a help site. Those are the websites using Contentful that call its API from the browser, which is why we can see them; the main site may use Contentful too without showing it.

Contentful Market Share Among CMS & Website Builders

What is Contentful's market share? By detected domains, Contentful holds 0.03% of CMS & Website Builders, a category of 16,482,252 domains led by WordPress at 60.02%. We don't print a rank. Contentful sits outside the category's top 100, below the 100th-placed platform at 4,792 domains, and for a product whose delivery is mostly invisible to a browser, a position that deep would describe our detection more than the market.

Contentful Customers by Company Size & Age

Is Contentful only for large companies? No, though its large customers dominate the named list. 48.04% of matched companies employ 1 to 10 people and 22.13% employ 11 to 50. At the other end, 170 companies have more than 1,000 staff and 51 have more than 10,000, including P&G, Kraft Heinz, Cigna and Nationwide.

Company Size Distribution

Company Age (Founded Decade)

35.33% of matched companies were founded in the 2010s and 21.48% in the 2020s. The old end is thick for a product launched in 2013: 9.99% were founded before 1960, which is where the consumer-goods, insurance and packaging names in the table sit.

What Industries Use Contentful the Most?

Hospitality leads at 7.44%, ahead of Software Development (5.49%), Retail (4.89%) and Financial Services (4.58%). No industry passes 8%. Add Restaurants (3.16%) to Hospitality and food and hotel brands reach 10.6% of matched companies, the one real cluster in an otherwise flat distribution, based on our enriched company data at TechnologyChecker.io.

Restaurant chains using Contentful stand out in the named list: Pizza Hut, KFC, Jimmy John's, Jersey Mike's, McAlister's Deli, Moe's and Jamba. McAlister's, Moe's and Jamba belong to one franchisor, GoTo Foods, so part of that cluster is one group's platform decision. Software companies on Contentful such as Atlassian (support.atlassian.com) and Asana (help.asana.com) use it for their help centres.

Contentful Alternatives & Competitors

The competitors in this table are the category's largest website builders: WordPress (60.02%), Wix (8.81%), Squarespace (6.53%), GoDaddy Website Builder (4.97%) and Webflow (1.71%). Contentful's real peers are other headless systems: Sanity, Strapi, Storyblok, Prismic and Contentstack, and at the enterprise end Adobe Experience Manager and Sitecore. Their counts are not comparable, because each is detected from different traces. Sites rarely move between them either: 212 domains have carried both Contentful and Sanity, and we have recorded 6 moving from Contentful to Sanity.

Tech Stack of Contentful-Powered Websites

Next.js runs on 41.64% of Contentful domains, the clearest pairing in the stack, followed by AWS (29.97%), Cloudflare (28.39%) and Amazon CloudFront (23.1%). Keep the selection effect in mind: we see Contentful only where the browser calls it, so sites that fetch content client-side are over-represented against fully static builds.

Expert Analysis: Contentful Growth Trends & Key Signals for Sales Teams in 2026

Emma Davies
Emma DaviesData Analyst, TechnologyChecker

Contentful is a product whose customers are mostly invisible to the method we use to find them, so this analysis starts with the measurement and then says what the visible part tells you. Figures come from our September 2026 crawl of live business domains, joined to company records for 2,532 of the 4,346 domains where we detect Contentful.

What we can and can't see

Contentful is headless. It stores content and serves it through APIs, and the site that renders it is built separately. We detect it when a page calls Contentful's delivery API from the browser or returns Contentful's response headers. A site that pulls its content on the server, which is the default in most modern builds, sends finished HTML and leaves no Contentful call for a crawler to record.

The asset domain puts a size on that gap. 5,246 domains in our crawl load images or files from ctfassets.net, Contentful's asset CDN, and only 506 of them (9.6%) are in our Contentful count. Even the asset figure is a lower bound, since that table is sampled. We would not multiply our headline by ten, because an asset URL can occasionally come from a third-party widget, but the direction is not in doubt: our 4,346 is a small fraction of Contentful's real web footprint.

Sales Signal: Treat a detected Contentful domain as a confirmed account and an undetected one as unknown. If you sell into headless stacks, a ctfassets.net image URL in the page HTML is a better check than any list, ours included.

Where large companies put it

The named list is enterprise-heavy for a base this size. 170 matched companies have more than 1,000 employees and 51 have more than 10,000. The detection hosts show how they deploy it. P&G's is preferencecenter.pg.com, KFC's is landing.kfc.com, Nationwide's is developer.nationwide.com, Atlassian's is support.atlassian.com and Asana's is help.asana.com. Those are properties that fetch content in the browser: preference forms, landing pages, docs and help centres. Where the main site is server-rendered we usually can't see it, so a detection on a help centre does not mean the homepage runs on something else.

The smaller end is large too. 48.04% of matched companies employ 10 people or fewer, and a good share of those are agencies and studios that build Contentful sites for clients.

Sales Signal: For enterprise accounts, the detection host is the lead. A developer portal or help centre on Contentful points to the team that owns it, and that team is a better first contact than whoever runs the corporate site.

Restaurants, hotels and Australia

Two clusters stand out in a flat industry chart. Hospitality leads at 7.44%, and with Restaurants (3.16%) food and hotel brands reach 10.6% of matched companies. The named list carries Pizza Hut, KFC, Jimmy John's, Jersey Mike's, McAlister's Deli, Moe's and Jamba, and three of those, McAlister's, Moe's and Jamba, belong to one franchisor, GoTo Foods. Part of that cluster is therefore one group's platform decision rather than a sector trend.

The second cluster is geographic. Australia has 323 matched companies, nearly double the United Kingdom's 172 and second only to the United States (889), with names like Chemist Warehouse, JB Hi-Fi, Deakin University, IDP Education and Computershare. Germany, where Contentful was founded in 2013, has 127.

Sales Signal: Australian retail and education, and US multi-brand restaurant groups, are where Contentful's visible footprint is densest. In a franchisor, one platform decision covers every brand in the group, so qualify at group level.

The stack around it

Next.js appears on 41.64% of Contentful domains, far ahead of Gatsby (2.09%) and Astro (0.58%). AWS (29.97%), Cloudflare (28.39%) and Amazon CloudFront (23.1%) carry the hosting and delivery, Vercel is on 16.56%, and Angular (12.08%) marks an enterprise front end. Sentry (16.98%) and Datadog (7.2%) show teams that monitor what they ship. This is a developer-owned stack, and it is skewed toward sites that call Contentful from the browser, because those are the ones we can see.

Switching is rare

No switching flow between Contentful and another platform passed our tests, so this page has no migration table. The numbers are small in every direction. 212 domains have carried both Contentful and Sanity, and we have recorded 6 moving from Contentful to Sanity. WordPress is the largest overlap at 266 domains, but the flows are 24 domains from WordPress to Contentful and 25 the other way, too few to call a trend. 669 domains have dropped our Contentful signal since March 2026, and for a runtime signal some of those will be sites that moved their Contentful calls to the server rather than sites that left.

If you compare our count with Strapi, Sanity or Adobe Experience Manager, remember that each is detected from different traces, so the gaps between them say as much about visibility as about adoption. Our guide to technology detection methods explains the difference. The full Contentful list, with detection hosts, is on TechnologyChecker.io.

Frequently Asked Questions

Who uses Contentful?

Our crawl sees Contentful on 4,346 domains, matched to 2,532 companies, including P&G (preferencecenter.pg.com), Pizza Hut, KFC (landing.kfc.com), Nationwide, Kraft Heinz, Atlassian and HelloFresh. Hospitality is the largest industry at 7.44%, and restaurant chains are a visible cluster. Big companies often show Contentful on one property, such as a help site or preference centre, rather than their homepage.

How many customers does Contentful have?

We detect Contentful on 4,346 domains in our September 2026 crawl, 2,532 of them matched to a company. That is a floor. Most Contentful sites load content on the server, so nothing shows in the browser: of 5,246 domains loading files from Contentful's asset domain, only 506 (9.6%) are in our count. 669 domains have dropped the signal since March 2026.

What is Contentful's market share?

By detected domains, Contentful holds 0.03% of CMS & Website Builders, a category of 16,482,252 domains led by WordPress at 60.02%. We don't publish a rank for it: it sits outside the category's top 100, and because most Contentful delivery happens on the server, its detected share understates its real footprint by a wide margin.

What are the best alternatives to Contentful?

The closest alternatives are other headless CMS platforms: Sanity, Strapi, Storyblok, Prismic, Contentstack and Hygraph, with Adobe Experience Manager and Sitecore at the enterprise end. Few sites switch between them. 212 domains in our data have carried both Contentful and Sanity, and we have recorded 6 moving from Contentful to Sanity. WordPress and Webflow lead the category but solve a different problem.

Which countries use Contentful the most?

United States leads with 889 matched Contentful domains, followed by Australia (323), United Kingdom (172), Germany (127), Switzerland (103). These are counts within the 2,532 domains we could match to a company record, not the full detected base.

What size companies use Contentful?

The most common company size is 1-10 employees, representing 48.04% of the Contentful domains we could match to a company record and size — a subset of 2,532 matched companies, not of all 4,346 detected domains. This is followed by 11-50 employees (22.13%) and 51-200 employees (13.64%).

How old are companies that use Contentful?

Among the Contentful domains we could match to a company with a known founding date, the largest group was founded in the 2010s (35.33%), followed by the 2020s (21.48%). That matched subset is drawn from 2,532 companies and is not representative of all 4,346 detected domains. This suggests Contentful is most popular among relatively young companies.

What is the ideal customer profile for Contentful?

The ideal Contentful customer is: Company Size: 1-10 employees, plus a 1,000+ tail, Location: US, Australia, or UK, Industry: Hospitality, software, retail, Founded: 2010s, Front end: Next.js — based on our analysis of 2,532 enriched companies at TechnologyChecker.io.

What is Contentful used for?

Contentful stores structured content and delivers it through APIs to websites, apps and other channels. In our data, large companies use it for specific properties: a preference centre at P&G, a developer portal at Nationwide, help centres at Atlassian and Asana, an application site at Deakin University, and main sites at Pizza Hut, Kraft Heinz and HelloFresh.

Is Contentful a headless CMS?

Yes. Contentful stores content separately from any front end and serves it through REST and GraphQL APIs, so the website is built in a separate framework. In our crawl, 41.64% of Contentful domains run Next.js. Contentful was founded in Berlin in 2013, and Germany is its fourth-largest country in our data with 127 matched companies.

Which CMS is better, Contentful or Webflow?

They solve different problems. Webflow is a visual builder that also hosts the site, so a marketing team can ship pages without developers. Contentful holds content for developers to render in their own front end, often across a website and apps at once. Choose Webflow for one marketing site; choose Contentful when several channels share the same content and a development team owns the front end.

Does Contentful work with Next.js?

Yes, and it is the most common pairing in our data: Next.js runs on 41.64% of the domains where we detect Contentful, far ahead of Gatsby (2.09%) and Astro (0.58%). Many Next.js sites fetch Contentful content on the server, which is exactly why they are hard to detect, so the real share of Contentful sites on Next.js is likely higher.

How can you tell if a website uses Contentful?

Check the page's images and network requests. Files served from images.ctfassets.net or assets.ctfassets.net, requests to cdn.contentful.com or graphql.contentful.com, or an x-contentful-request-id response header all indicate Contentful. None of them appearing does not rule it out, because a server-rendered site can use Contentful without exposing anything to the browser.

Why is Contentful so expensive?

Contentful's paid plans are priced on usage limits such as content records, locales, users and API calls, and larger contracts are negotiated. That pricing fits its customer mix in our data: 170 matched companies have more than 1,000 employees and 51 have more than 10,000. Smaller teams often weigh it against Strapi, which can be self-hosted, or Sanity.

Why do lists of Contentful customers disagree?

Because each provider sees a different slice. A crawler only sees Contentful when the browser calls its API or loads its files, and most Contentful sites do neither on the pages a crawler visits. Our own count of 4,346 domains captures about one in ten of the sites loading Contentful assets. Lists built from job posts or sales data measure something else again.
