Companies Using Thinkific
Our September 2026 crawl finds 3,408 domains running a Thinkific school, and 2,141 of them resolve to a named company. These are Thinkific customers you can check yourself: Meltwater runs academy.meltwater.com on it, Make runs academy.make.com, Anaconda runs learning.anaconda.com and IRONMAN runs u.ironman.com. Below is the full list of companies that use Thinkific, with company size, industry, country and the tools each school's owner also runs.
Thinkific ranks 7th in Learning Management (LMS) with 3.56% of the category, and second among platforms that host the course site for you, behind Teachable. Most of its customers are small: 69.61% of matched companies employ 1 to 10 people. Read the chart with one caveat. 62% of today's domains were first detected in August or September 2026, when our crawl began reaching school subdomains, so the steep part of the line is coverage.

Thinkific Usage Statistics
Thinkific reads 1,150 domains in June 2026, 1,301 in July, 2,568 in August and 3,408 in September. Most of that rise is coverage. 1,755 of today's domains (51%) were first detected in August and 391 (11%) in September, as our crawl began resolving the subdomains schools live on, such as courses., learn. and academy. The set of domains we crawl also turns over every month, with dead sites dropping out and newly found ones added. The September figure is the one to quote, and 56 domains have dropped Thinkific since we began tracking in March 2026.

Which Countries Use Thinkific the Most?
Which countries use Thinkific the most? The United States, with 929 matched companies, ahead of the United Kingdom (200), Canada (192), Thinkific's home market, and Australia (116). Add New Zealand's 18 and 1,455 of the 2,141 matched companies are in those five English-speaking countries. Spain (50), Mexico (31), the Netherlands (29) and France (27) lead a thin tail.
Share of the 2,141 Thinkific domains we matched to a company record — 62.8% of the 3,408 we detect. Top 15 countries shown, so these do not sum to 100%. Domains with no matching company record are not represented here and skew small and independent.
Thinkific Market Share Among Learning Management (LMS)
What is Thinkific's market share? It holds 3.56% of Learning Management (LMS) and ranks 7th of 60, based on our crawl of live business domains at TechnologyChecker.io. Most of the six above it are a different purchase. LearnDash (18,936 domains), ThimPress LearnPress (13,945) and Tutor LMS (5,924) are WordPress plugins, Moodle (16,815) is run by the institution itself, and Skolengo (14,379) sells to schools. Among platforms that host the course site for you, Thinkific is second, behind Teachable (4,400) and ahead of LearnWorlds (2,636).
Top Competitors by Market Share
Thinkific Customers by Company Size & Age
What size companies use Thinkific? Mostly very small ones: 69.61% of matched companies with a known size employ 1 to 10 people and 21.49% employ 11 to 50. The remaining 8.9% is where the corporate academies sit. 60 companies employ more than 200 people and 9 more than 1,000, among them Meltwater, Moniepoint and Mekari.
Company Size Distribution
Company Age (Founded Decade)
Half of matched companies (50.45%) were founded in the 2010s and another 24.22% in the 2020s, so three in four started in 2010 or later. That fits a base of coaches and course businesses that began online. The older rows are institutions: Dallas Theological Seminary, founded in 1924, and Karger, the Swiss medical publisher founded in 1890, both run Thinkific schools.
What Industries Use Thinkific the Most?
Professional Training and Coaching leads at 13.23%, followed by E-Learning Providers (11.94%) and Education (7.5%). Those three teaching rows add up to 32.67% of matched companies with a known industry. Software Development comes next at 4.89%, ahead of Wellness and Fitness Services (4.64%) and Business Consulting and Services (4.59%), based on our enriched company data.
The Software Development row is the one to read. Software companies that use Thinkific run customer academies on it: academy.make.com, learning.anaconda.com, academy.kissflow.com, university.yugabyte.com and academy.cognigy.com all point at a Thinkific school. Nonprofits on Thinkific use it for public programmes, such as the Urban Land Institute (learning.uli.org) and NeighborWorks America (learn.neighborworks.org), and consumer brands sell classes on it, as Blue Bottle Coffee does at classes.bluebottlecoffee.com.
Thinkific Alternatives & Competitors
Thinkific's direct rivals are the other hosted course platforms: Teachable, larger at 4,400 domains, and LearnWorlds, smaller at 2,636. Kajabi and Podia aim at the same creators but are not classed in this category in our data. Switching between these platforms is too small to measure. 34 domains have ever run both Thinkific and Teachable, and 88.2% of them still run both, which is coexistence rather than migration. If you already run WordPress, LearnDash adds courses to that site instead, and Moodle suits institutions with staff to run a server.
Tech Stack of Thinkific-Powered Websites
Across the 3,434 domains where Thinkific is live, the Facebook Pixel runs on 42.66%, which school owners add through Thinkific's Meta Pixel app or by hand, with Google Ads conversion tracking on 9.44% and the LinkedIn Insight Tag on 9.09%. WordPress at 31.13% is usually the company's main site, joined to its school at the domain level. Read Wistia (14.65%) as partly platform, since Thinkific hosts uploaded lesson videos with Wistia. We leave Ruby on Rails, Envoy, Cloudflare Bot Management and Stripe out of this table because Thinkific serves them to every school.

Expert Analysis: Thinkific Growth Trends & Key Signals for Sales Teams in 2026

I analysed Thinkific against our September 2026 crawl. We find a Thinkific school on 3,408 domains, and 2,141 of them match a company record. Thinkific itself reports more than 35,000 customers in its May 2026 results release, so this page covers the part of that base with a domain of its own. Schools left on a default thinkific.com address all sit under one domain and cannot be counted one by one.
Every detection is a school Thinkific serves
We match Thinkific on its session cookie, its JavaScript object and scripts from cdn.thinkific.com. All three come from Thinkific's servers, so a detection means a school that is live. The hosts show the deployment shape: apex domains are 29.2% of detections, courses. subdomains 16.8%, learn. 10.4% and academy. 6.0%.
A browser check was not possible. Thinkific runs Cloudflare Bot Management on most schools, and our headless browser got the challenge page on all 24 hosts we sampled. DNS answered instead: 18 of the 24 point a CNAME at a school on thinkific.com, and the other 6 are root domains, which cannot. The CNAME names are provisioned per customer, makelearninghub for Make and teamaptlearning for Moniepoint, so each row is an individual school.
Sales signal: the detection host tells you which team owns the school. An academy. subdomain at a software company often belongs to the customer education team.
The August step is our crawl catching up
The usage chart runs 1,150 in June, 1,301 in July, 2,568 in August and 3,408 in September. 1,755 of today's domains were first detected in August and 391 in September. That is our crawl starting to resolve the subdomains schools live on, together with the monthly turnover of the domains we crawl.
"The line doubled in August because we started seeing the courses. and academy. subdomains Thinkific had been serving all along. Quote the September level and leave the slope alone." - David Thomson, CTO at TechnologyChecker.io
Sales signal: judge a school by its own history. A newly detected school is usually an established one that our crawl has only now reached.
Coaches first, customer academies second
69.61% of matched companies employ 1 to 10 people and 21.49% employ 11 to 50. Three in four were founded in 2010 or later. The industry table agrees: coaching, e-learning and education rows are 32.67% of the base, and 1,455 of the 2,141 matched companies are in the United States, the United Kingdom, Canada, Australia or New Zealand.
The second group is smaller and easier to spot. Software Development is 4.89% of matched companies, and the named list shows it: Meltwater, Make, Anaconda, Kissflow, Yugabyte, Cognigy and Incorta all run academies on Thinkific. So do nonprofits such as the Urban Land Institute and NeighborWorks America. Dallas Theological Seminary, at courses.dts.edu, is both in our data and in Thinkific's own case studies.
Sales signal: for anything sold to customer-education teams, filter this list to Software Development and to companies above 50 employees. 60 companies employ more than 200 people.
The stack Thinkific supplies, and the one customers choose
Some co-occurrence numbers on a hosted platform describe the host. Ruby on Rails is on 95.69% of Thinkific domains, Envoy on 95.37%, Cloudflare Bot Management on 89.40% and Cloudflare on 98.14%. Stripe on 42.92% is Thinkific Payments, which Thinkific builds on Stripe. None of that is a customer decision, so we keep it out of the stack table.
The customer choices are marketing tools. The Facebook Pixel is on 42.66%, the LinkedIn Insight Tag on 9.09% and HubSpot on 8.74%, with ActiveCampaign at 8.07% ahead of Mailchimp at 6.79%. Wistia at 14.65% sits in between, because Thinkific hosts uploaded videos with Wistia. WordPress at 31.13% is the main company site, joined to the school because both share a domain.
Sales signal: about four in ten schools run the Facebook Pixel, so paid social is the most common tracked channel here. Email is split, with no email platform above 8.07%.
No switching to report
56 domains dropped Thinkific since March 2026, too few for a migration table. The pair you would expect, Thinkific and Teachable, shows 34 domains that have ever run both, and 88.2% still run both.
"Thirty of the 34 domains that ever ran both Thinkific and Teachable still run both. At that size it is a handful of creators keeping two schools open." - David Thomson, CTO at TechnologyChecker.io
What G2 reviewers say
Thinkific scores 4.5 out of 5 across 405 G2 reviews. Ease of use leads the praise with 92 mentions. The complaints are about ceilings: limited features (41), limited customization (39) and missing features such as SCORM (30). That matches the deployment we see, where the brand site often stays on WordPress (31.13%) or Squarespace (6.17%) and the school sits on a subdomain Thinkific controls. Owners get an easy school and give up design control over it.
Sales signal: SCORM is a corporate training standard, so those complaints point at the larger academies on this list, the ones most likely to outgrow the defaults.
Key takeaways
1. 3,408 domains and 2,141 companies, against Thinkific's own figure of more than 35,000 customers.
2. Second among hosted course platforms, behind Teachable's 4,400 and ahead of LearnWorlds' 2,636.
3. 69.61% of matched companies employ 1 to 10 people.
4. 62% of domains were first detected in August or September 2026, which reflects our crawl's reach.
5. Rails, Envoy and Stripe come with the platform and say nothing about the buyer.

Frequently Asked Questions
Who uses Thinkific?
Coaches, trainers and course businesses, plus a visible group of software companies running customer academies. Our crawl finds 3,408 domains with a Thinkific school, 2,141 matched to a company. Named users include Meltwater (academy.meltwater.com), Make (academy.make.com), Anaconda, IRONMAN and Dallas Theological Seminary. Professional Training and Coaching is the largest industry at 13.23%.
How many customers does Thinkific have?
Thinkific says more than 35,000 customers use it, in its May 2026 results release. Our crawl finds 3,408 domains running a Thinkific school in September 2026, 2,141 matched to a company. The gap is expected: schools left on their default thinkific.com address all sit under one domain, so our count is the schools that connected a domain of their own.
What is Thinkific's market share?
Thinkific holds 3.56% of Learning Management (LMS) and ranks 7th of 60 in our crawl. The leaders are mostly a different purchase: LearnDash, LearnPress and Tutor LMS are WordPress plugins, and Moodle is self-hosted. Among platforms that host the course site for you, Thinkific is second, with 3,408 domains against Teachable's 4,400 and LearnWorlds' 2,636.
What are the best alternatives to Thinkific?
For a hosted course site, Teachable (4,400 domains in our crawl) and LearnWorlds (2,636) are the closest, and Kajabi and Podia target the same creators. If you already run WordPress, LearnDash (18,936) adds courses to it. Our data shows no measurable switching: 34 domains have ever run both Thinkific and Teachable, and 88.2% of them still run both.
Which countries use Thinkific the most?
United States leads with 929 matched Thinkific domains, followed by United Kingdom (200), Canada (192), Australia (116), Spain (50). These are counts within the 2,141 domains we could match to a company record, not the full detected base.
What size companies use Thinkific?
The most common company size is 1-10 employees, representing 69.61% of the Thinkific domains we could match to a company record and size — a subset of 2,141 matched companies, not of all 3,408 detected domains. This is followed by 11-50 employees (21.49%) and 51-200 employees (6.04%).
How old are companies that use Thinkific?
Among the Thinkific domains we could match to a company with a known founding date, the largest group was founded in the 2010s (50.45%), followed by the 2020s (24.22%). That matched subset is drawn from 2,141 companies and is not representative of all 3,408 detected domains. This suggests Thinkific is most popular among relatively young companies.
What is the ideal customer profile for Thinkific?
The ideal Thinkific customer is: Company Size: 1-10 employees, Location: US, UK, Canada or Australia, Industry: Coaching, e-learning and education, Founded: 2010-2019, School: Course site on its own domain or a courses./academy. subdomain — based on our analysis of 2,141 enriched companies at TechnologyChecker.io.
What kind of companies use Thinkific?
Two kinds. Most are small course businesses: 69.61% of matched companies with a known size employ 1 to 10 people, and coaching, e-learning and education rows make up 32.67% by industry. The second group is companies teaching their own customers or partners, usually on an academy. or learning. subdomain. Meltwater, Make, Anaconda, Kissflow, Yugabyte and Cognigy all run schools this way.
How can you tell if a website uses Thinkific?
Look for a _thinkific_session cookie, the Thinkific JavaScript object or scripts loaded from cdn.thinkific.com, which is what TechnologyChecker.io detects. DNS gives it away too. Of 24 random Thinkific hosts we checked, 18 point a CNAME at an address ending in thinkific.com, and the other six were root domains, which cannot use a CNAME.
Is Thinkific better than Teachable?
Our data cannot settle that, but it shows who picks each. Teachable is larger in our crawl, 4,400 domains to Thinkific's 3,408. On G2, Thinkific rates 4.5 out of 5 across 405 reviews, with ease of use its most praised quality and limited features its most common complaint. Very few domains move between the two platforms.
Is Thinkific still used in 2026?
Yes. Our September 2026 crawl finds Thinkific live on 3,408 domains, and 56 have dropped it since we began tracking in March 2026. The chart's jump from 1,301 in July to 3,408 in September is mostly our crawl reaching more school subdomains, so quote the level and leave the growth rate alone.
What are the disadvantages of Thinkific?
G2 reviewers raise three related complaints: limited features (41 mentions), limited customization of templates and design (39), and missing features such as SCORM support and dated quizzes (30). Hard-to-find features draw 28 mentions and thin support after onboarding 19. The same reviewers rate it 4.5 out of 5, with ease of use praised 92 times.
Why do Thinkific sites show Ruby on Rails and Stripe?
Because Thinkific serves them, not the school owner. Ruby on Rails appears on 95.69% of Thinkific domains, Envoy on 95.37% and Cloudflare Bot Management on 89.40%, which is Thinkific's own platform. Stripe on 42.92% is Thinkific Payments, which Thinkific builds on Stripe. None of them says anything about the customer, so we keep them out of the stack table.
Do large companies use Thinkific?
Some do. 60 of the 2,103 matched companies with a known size employ more than 200 people, and 9 more than 1,000, among them Meltwater, Moniepoint and Mekari. They usually run a customer or partner academy on a subdomain. Thinkific sells a Thinkific Plus tier for this use, and Dallas Theological Seminary, on our list, is one of its published Plus case studies.
