Companies Using GitBook

I analysed GitBook against our September 2026 crawl: 6,301 domains, 4,134 of them matched to a company record, and almost all of them documentation sites on the customer's own hostname. That last part decides how to read every chart on this page.

What we count as a GitBook site

Every site published through GitBook's hosted platform carries a generator tag that reads "GitBook" and loads its page code from GitBook's servers at static-2v.gitbook.com. We match on both. In a browser check, all 20 random sites that loaded were GitBook, as were 10 of 10 sites our script log had missed and all 20 at the top of our named list. A plain fetch of another 100 random domains found GitBook markup on 93 of the 95 that answered.

67.49% of domains carry GitBook on a docs. subdomain, 5.75% on help., 2.78% on wiki. and 2.06% on whitepaper. What we don't see is GitBook's default hosting: spaces published at *.gitbook.io addresses aren't in our crawl, so the free and default-hosted part of GitBook's base sits outside this count. About 96 domains are a different thing again, books generated by GitBook's old open-source command-line tool or R bookdown books using its theme, which have nothing to do with the hosted product.

Sales signal: every row is a public documentation site you can open and read, which makes this list unusually easy to qualify by hand.

A custom domain is a buying signal

GitBook's pricing page, checked in September 2026, doesn't include a custom domain on the Free plan. It comes with Premium, at $65 per site per month plus $12 per user billed annually, and with Ultimate ($249 per site per month) and Enterprise. The exception is the Community plan, free for qualifying open-source projects, nonprofits and education groups, which carries Ultimate's features. So on today's price list, a GitBook site on its own docs. address is either on a paid plan or in GitBook's community programme, apart from any older plans GitBook still honours.

GitBook says more than 30,000 teams publish documentation with it. The 6,301 sites here belong to the teams that put that documentation on a domain they own.

Sales signal: these companies already spend on documentation tooling. Vendors of API tooling, docs search, AI assistants and translation services can treat a GitBook custom domain as evidence of budget.

About a third of the sites are crypto projects

The most distinctive part of GitBook's base is crypto. We fetched 100 random GitBook domains and classified the 93 that answered by their landing page. 32 of 93, or 34.4%, were crypto or web3 documentation: token docs, protocol guides, whitepapers and litepapers from projects such as THORChain (docs.thorchain.org), Wanchain (docs.wanchain.org) and INIT Capital (docs.init.capital). The margin on a sample that size is wide, roughly 25% to 45%, and in our separate browser sample it was 10 of 20, so "about a third" is the honest reading.

Other signals agree. 130 domains run GitBook on a whitepaper. subdomain. Singapore has 139 matched companies, more than France or Germany, and Switzerland (97) and the United Arab Emirates (71) rank high for their size. LinkedIn's Blockchain Services label covers 7.64% of matched companies, which undercounts the segment, because many projects file as software or financial services companies or have no company page at all. The group is mixed, with no single chain, launchpad or template behind it, and some of these sites are dormant. One we sampled was a protocol sunset notice.

Sales signal: split crypto projects out before you prospect. They are a different market from the SaaS companies on the same list, and they cluster in Singapore, Switzerland and the UAE. For vendors that sell into web3, that split is a ready-made list.

Young companies, often one product's docs

Half of the matched companies with a known size have 1 to 10 employees (49.91%) and 37.73% have 11 to 50. 53.76% were founded in the 2020s and 39.98% in the 2010s. Software Development (27.75%) and Technology, Information and Internet (16.61%) are the top industries, with Financial Services at 9.18%.

The large companies on the list tend to keep one product's documentation on GitBook rather than everything. Crypto.com's detection is ai-agent-sdk-docs.crypto.com, the manual for a single SDK; impact.com's is integrations.impact.com and DataCamp's is datalab-docs.datacamp.com. Three names are confirmed from both sides. Sonar and Nexthink appear in GitBook's customer stories, Snyk is named on GitBook's about page, and our crawl finds docs.sonarsource.com, docs.nexthink.com and docs.snyk.io on GitBook.

Sales signal: at a large company, the GitBook user is usually a product or developer relations team rather than central IT. Find the team that owns the docs subdomain.

What runs next to the docs

Our stack table joins a docs site with the company's main website, so it helps to know which tools sit on the GitBook host itself. Google Analytics appears on 69.86% of the 6,300 live GitBook domains, and on 2,725 of them it fires on the docs host, through the analytics integration GitBook offers. 1,425 domains load at least one app from GitBook's integrations catalogue. Intercom is on 391 domains and loads inside the docs on 92 of them. HubSpot (15.06%), PostHog (9.24%), WordPress (13.78%) and Webflow (11.94%) almost always sit on the company's main site instead.

One set of rows is missing on purpose. Nearly every GitBook host shows Cloudflare, Next.js, Tailwind CSS and Vercel. Those describe how GitBook serves its customers' sites. The customers didn't pick them, so we leave them out.

Sales signal: the docs and the homepage run on different platforms, so treat them as separate buying decisions. A company on Webflow with docs on GitBook may have two different people to talk to.

Where GitBook sits among documentation tools

GitBook ranks fifth of 70 in our Documentation & Knowledge Base table with 3.42%, but that table also holds help desks, PDF software and verification records. Among tools that render documentation sites, it is level with Docusaurus (6,427) and MediaWiki (6,428). ReadMe is on 1,534 domains and MkDocs on 2,401 in the same crawl. Mintlify, a frequent comparison, has no reliable count in our crawl yet, so we don't quote one.

GitBook and Docusaurus rarely overlap. Only 30 domains run both, and since we began tracking in March 2026, 10 domains moved from GitBook to Docusaurus and 5 went the other way. Churn is low overall: 112 domains have dropped GitBook in that time.

Sales signal: a GitBook customer has chosen a hosted, editor-first model. Vendors of docs-as-code tooling will find few converts here; vendors that plug into GitBook, through integrations, search or AI assistants, will find a clean list.

Split the list first: crypto projects on one side, software and fintech companies on the other. Then read the hostname column, which tells you what each company documents. Rows on docs. and developer. hosts are usually product and API docs, while help. and support. rows are customer help centres.
