As someone deeply immersed in workflow automation and tech stack intelligence, I've spent considerable time exploring tools like n8n and helping professionals uncover adoption patterns. n8n has exploded in popularity as a flexible, self-hosted alternative to proprietary platforms—offering node-based workflows, 400+ integrations, and strong emphasis on data privacy. In 2026, with over 15,000 documented companies using it (per platforms like TheirStack), spotting these users is more valuable than ever for B2B sales, marketing, competitive analysis, or even recruitment.
Whether you're targeting ops teams automating with n8n or tracking migrations from tools like Zapier/Make, this guide shares proven, up-to-date methods. I'll prioritize practical, scalable approaches, with my #1 recommendation based on real-world performance: TechnologyChecker.io. It excels at detecting backend and standalone tools like n8n, complete with historical insights, real-time alerts, and verified contacts that drive conversions.

What Makes n8n Adoption Worth Tracking?
n8n's fair-code model appeals to technical teams needing custom automations without vendor lock-in. Real-world examples include:

Frequently Asked Questions About Companies Using n8n
How many companies are using n8n in 2026?
Technology intelligence platforms track over 15,000 companies using n8n globally, with numbers varying slightly by source (e.g., TheirStack reports 15,269–15,476 active users). Adoption is growing rapidly among mid-market and enterprise teams in tech, e-commerce, and HR, driven by n8n's open-source flexibility. For the most accurate, real-time count—including backend and self-hosted instances—tools like TechnologyChecker.io scan 50M+ domains and detect 40,000+ technologies with 95%+ accuracy.
Which companies are using n8n?
Notable companies using n8n include Vodafone (for threat intelligence workflows saving £2.2 million), Stepstone (running 200+ mission-critical automations), Icatu (insurance innovation), and Bordr (scaling a six-figure relocation business). Thousands more mid-sized firms use it for AI-orchestrated tasks. Official case studies on n8n.io showcase these, but for a broader view of companies using n8n (including non-public adopters), advanced detection tools reveal hidden users through infrastructure signals.
Where can I get a list of companies using n8n?
Public sources like TheirStack.com offer downloadable lists of 15,000+ companies using n8n, enriched with basics like industry and location. For deeper insights—such as historical adoption timelines, tech stack changes, and verified decision-maker contacts—you can build an n8n customer list with TechnologyChecker for superior full-stack profiles. It detects backend/self-hosted n8n usage that basic scanners miss, across 50M+ domains with real-time alerts for new adopters.
What are the best n8n case studies for companies using it?
Standout case studies include:
- Vodafone revolutionizing threat intelligence with n8n.
- Stepstone prototyping integrations in hours.
- Fullscript and Bordr automating operations to save time and scale revenue. These are featured on n8n.io/case-studies. Real-world examples from community sources highlight use in data syncing, AI agents, and cost reduction—patterns TechnologyChecker.io helps uncover at scale by tracking migration trends.
How can I find companies using n8n for sales prospecting?
The most effective way to find companies using n8n is with specialized tech intelligence tools. TechnologyChecker.io excels here: it uses multi-signal detection (headless rendering, DNS/TLS fingerprints) to spot backend n8n instances, pairs signals with verified contacts, and sends real-time alerts for stack changes. This turns "companies using n8n" into qualified leads faster than manual searches or frontend-only tools.
Is n8n widely used by large companies?
Yes, large enterprises like Vodafone and Stepstone rely on n8n for mission-critical workflows, alongside thousands of SMBs. While exact numbers fluctuate, sources indicate broad adoption across industries. Tools detecting private/self-hosted setups (like TechnologyChecker.io) reveal even more enterprise usage than public lists suggest.
What tools detect companies using n8n accurately?
Traditional tools like Wappalyzer or BuiltWith often miss backend/self-hosted n8n. TechnologyChecker.io stands out with 95%+ accuracy for 40,000+ technologies, including standalone platforms like n8n. Features like 20-year historical data and real-time monitoring help identify companies using n8n—even when not publicly visible.
Why do companies switch to n8n?
Companies adopt n8n for cost savings, data privacy (self-hosting), and custom AI integrations—often migrating from Zapier or Make. Case studies show outcomes like faster prototyping and reduced manual work. Historical tracking tools reveal patterns: firms using n8n frequently evaluate complementary tools shortly after adoption.
How does TechnologyChecker.io compare for finding n8n users?
Unlike competitors focused on frontend tech, TechnologyChecker.io provides full-stack detection (including n8n, databases, Airtable), verified contacts, and predictive insights from 20 years of data. Users report 40–60% higher conversion rates when targeting companies using n8n with these enriched signals.
Are there free ways to see companies using n8n?
Basic lists are available from sites like TheirStack or n8n's case studies page. For free trials of advanced detection, TechnologyChecker.io offers 100 starting credits to scan domains and uncover companies using n8n instantly.
Is n8n a Chinese company?
No. n8n is a German company founded by Jan Oberhauser and headquartered in Berlin. It operates under a fair-code license (not fully open-source, not proprietary) and has raised funding from Sequoia Capital, Felicis Ventures, and other Western VCs. The "n8n" name is a numeronym for "nodemation" (n-o-d-e-m-a-t-i-o-n, 8 letters between n and n). All development and corporate operations are based in Europe.
Is n8n owned by Google?
No. n8n is privately held by n8n GmbH, the Berlin-based company behind the platform. Its investors include Sequoia Capital, Felicis Ventures, Firstminute Capital, and Harpoon Ventures, with angel investors like Eventbrite's Kevin Hartz and Supercell's Ilkka Paananen. Google has no ownership stake. n8n does integrate with many Google services (Sheets, Gmail, Calendar, Drive), which may cause some confusion, but these are third-party integrations available across most automation platforms.
Who is the target audience of n8n?
n8n primarily targets developers, DevOps engineers, IT professionals, and technically-inclined "power users." It's also popular with companies that have strict data privacy requirements, since self-hosting keeps all workflow data on your own infrastructure. Our LinkedIn-enriched data from TechnologyChecker.io shows n8n adoption is strongest among IT Services and Consulting firms, marketing agencies, and software development companies. The 11-50 employee range dominates, confirming that mid-market technical teams are the core user base.
What do people use n8n for?
Common n8n use cases include: social media management and scheduling, data synchronization between SaaS tools, CRM automation (syncing leads, updating deal stages), ecommerce workflows (order processing, inventory alerts), customer support ticket routing, AI-powered content generation pipelines, and internal tooling (Slack notifications, Google Sheets dashboards). Vodafone uses it for threat intelligence orchestration. Stepstone runs 200+ mission-critical workflows. Based on our detection data, companies in marketing, IT services, and education are the heaviest adopters.
Is n8n automation free?
n8n offers a free Community edition that you can self-host with no execution limits. You get access to 400+ integrations and the full visual workflow builder at zero cost. The tradeoff: you handle your own infrastructure, updates, and security. Paid plans (Cloud and Enterprise) add managed hosting, SSO, role-based access, log streaming, and priority support. Cloud pricing starts based on workflow executions, not per-step like Zapier, which makes complex multi-step automations significantly cheaper.
Is Zapier better than n8n?
It depends on your team. Zapier is easier for non-technical users, with a simpler setup and 7,000+ pre-built integrations. n8n gives developers more control: self-hosting, custom code nodes (JavaScript/Python), branching logic, and per-workflow pricing instead of per-step. For data engineering, complex AI agents, and privacy-sensitive environments, n8n wins. For quick marketing automations by non-engineers, Zapier is faster to deploy. Many companies in our dataset use both: Zapier for simple tasks, n8n for the heavy lifting.
Is n8n suitable for enterprise?
Yes. n8n's Enterprise plan includes SSO/SAML, role-based access control, audit logging, log streaming to observability tools, unlimited projects, and SLA-backed support. Companies like Vodafone and Zuellig Pharma (10,001+ employees) run production workflows on n8n. n8n claims 34% of Fortune 500 companies use its enterprise features. Self-hosted deployment means enterprises keep full control over data residency and network security. The main gap versus legacy platforms like MuleSoft or Workato is the smaller pre-built connector library, though n8n's custom HTTP/code nodes bridge most gaps.
Is n8n future-proof?
n8n's trajectory looks strong heading into 2026 and beyond. It has become the default automation layer for AI agent workflows, with native support for OpenAI, Anthropic, and local LLMs. The community has published 6,000+ workflow templates. Sequoia-backed funding and a growing enterprise customer base provide financial stability. The fair-code model gives users access to the source code, reducing vendor lock-in risk. That said, the automation space is competitive: Zapier, Make, and newer AI-native tools are all pushing hard. The self-hosted angle and developer-first approach keep n8n differentiated.
Can I use n8n for commercial use?
Yes, with some limits. n8n's Sustainable Use License allows all "internal business purposes" for free with the Community edition. You can automate your own company's workflows, connect your own tools, and process your own data commercially. What you can't do: resell a product or service where the core value comes from n8n's functionality (e.g., building a competing automation platform on top of n8n). If you're an agency building workflows for clients, that's fine as long as each client hosts their own n8n instance or you use the Enterprise plan.
