Companies Using Bold Options

Our October 2026 crawl finds Bold Product Options running on 4,002 live domains, all of them Shopify stores. Bold Commerce put the app on the Shopify App Store in December 2012; it now belongs to Shop Circle, which sells it from the same listing as SC Product Options. It adds fields beyond Shopify's three options per product: text boxes, file uploads, swatches and priced add-ons. Below is the list of companies that use Bold Options, with size, country, industry and stack. It includes Vera Bradley, the Los Angeles Times store, Life Fitness's shop and the esports teams NRG and Cloud9.

The 4,002 leaves out 1,247 stores whose themes still carry the app's code but run nothing. Most call only option.boldapps.net, the old Bold address, which now fails with a certificate error; How We Counted, at the foot of the page, has the detail. On the cleaned count it ranks 6th of 59 in Product Customization with 2.54%. Its stores are older than most Shopify apps' customers: only 7.21% of matched companies with a known founding year were founded in the 2020s.

Bold Options Usage Statistics

Bold Options reads 4,002 live domains in October 2026, after we removed 1,247 stores whose only Bold Product Options code no longer runs. The chart has one point because that cut comes from a fetch of every store's homepage on 15 October, and earlier months can't be cleaned the same way. Since we began tracking it on 16 March 2026, 707 domains dropped it on at least one hostname, and 61 of those still run it on another.

HulkApps Infinite Product Options, the options app above it on a cleaned count of 5,318, also belongs to Shop Circle, and Shopify removed it from the App Store on 15 October 2026 after a security incident. Printful (93,857) and Kiwi Sizing (18,568) top the table, but they sell print-on-demand and size charts.

The main complaints, concentrated in the critical set, are bugs and slow fixes on harder issues, with long-time users saying quality declined after Shop Circle took over from Bold.

How We Counted Bold Options Stores

A domain counts here when a page on it loads Bold Product Options' script from option.boldapps.net, or sets the app's BOLD.options settings in the page. Our crawl finds that on 5,254 live domains, and we set aside 5 whose page title marked them as for-sale or gambling sites. The rule has a blind spot. The app moved to Shop Circle, and its script moved with it: current installs load it from options.shopapps.site or from a Shopify app embed. The old address, option.boldapps.net, now answers with a Kubernetes "forbidden" message behind a certificate that fails verification, so a store that only calls it runs nothing. In the 45 days to 15 October, 1,114 of the 5,250 domains called option.boldapps.net and no current address.

On 15 October, when that set stood at 5,250, we fetched every homepage. We removed 1,247:

  • 1,095 whose page called option.boldapps.net and no current address
  • 121 that carried the app's settings block and no script at all
  • 31 whose fetch failed, showed no Bold code or a password page, where our 45-day script record also showed only the dead address

We kept 4,003 that day. Of those, 3,725 loaded a current address on the homepage: 3,144 options.shopapps.site, 1,152 the app embed, some both, and 45 still call the dead address beside a working one. The other 278 are 151 that timed out or put up a bot check, 109 whose fetched page had no Bold code and 18 password pages; a single failed fetch doesn't prove a store dropped the app, so they stay. One kept domain has since left our live crawl, which is why the page counts 4,002. A browser check agreed with the cut. Of 40 random stores whose script record showed only the dead address, none ran the app; the current script sets BOLD.options.app_script_version to 2 or 3 when it runs, and it was missing on all 40.

Every chart, table and share on this page uses the 4,002, and the usage chart has one point for the same reason. Our Product Customization category table hasn't had the correction and still lists Bold Options at 5,267, 5th. Our Bold Commerce profile applies the same rule to Bold's other apps. The largest single store covers 21 of the 4,002 domains.

Expert Analysis: Bold Options Growth Trends & Key Signals for Sales Teams in 2026

Emma Davies
Emma DaviesData Analyst, TechnologyChecker

Bold Product Options changed hands, and its script moved. Bold Commerce launched Product Options on the Shopify App Store in December 2012. Shop Circle now sells it from the same listing as SC Product Options, and it loads the script from new addresses. Our rule still matched the old one, so the first job was to separate stores that run the app from stores that only carry its leftovers. After that, our October 2026 crawl counts 4,002 live domains, 1,690 matched to a company, 6th of 59 in Product Customization with 2.54%.

Nearly a quarter of the raw count runs nothing

The raw count was 5,250 after for-sale and gambling titles. I fetched every one of those homepages on 15 October. 1,095 called only option.boldapps.net, which now answers with a Kubernetes "forbidden" message behind a certificate that fails verification, 121 held the app's settings with no script, and 31 more had only the dead address in our 45-day script record. That's 1,247 removed. Of the 4,003 kept that day, 3,725 loaded a working address on the homepage, 3,144 of them options.shopapps.site and 1,152 the Shopify app embed. A browser check on 40 random dead-address stores found the app running on none.

Sales signal: if your list came from a raw technology lookup, nearly one Bold Options store in four isn't using it. Filter on the current addresses before you build a migration pitch, or you'll be pitching stores that already moved on without cleaning their theme.

One month of clean data

The cleaned series has one point, October 2026, because the cut comes from one fetch. Churn is slow. Since 16 March 2026, 707 domains dropped the app on at least one hostname, and 61 of those still run it on another.

"Bold Options' raw count holds 1,247 stores that still carry the old Bold code. It points at a server that stopped serving the script, so those stores run nothing." - Emma Davies, Data Analyst at TechnologyChecker.io

Sales signal: the 1,095 dead-address stores are their own prospect list. Their product pages were built around custom options that no longer appear, which is a concrete problem to open with.

Established stores and side shops

66.94% of matched companies with a known size have 1 to 10 employees and 26.09% have 11 to 50. Age is what stands out: only 7.21% were founded in the 2020s, against 28.23% on Tabs Studio's profile, and 24.21% before 2000. The big names run it on a side shop: the Los Angeles Times on store.latimes.com, Life Fitness on shop.lifefitness.com, Perry's Steakhouse on its online market. Vera Bradley runs it on its main store.

Sales signal: expect older themes and teams who inherited the setup. An audit offer that lists what still loads, and what doesn't, fits these stores better than a feature pitch.

Clubs, golf and the English-speaking world

The United States has 1,062 matched companies, then the United Kingdom (154), Canada (124), Australia (98) and New Zealand (24): 1,462 of the 1,690 we matched. Retail leads the industries at 19.65%, but the made-to-order labels behind it show what stores use it for: jewellery (4.09%), sporting goods (3.54%), motor vehicles (2.75%), design (2.44%) and printing (2.2%). Sports clubs show up by name: Como 1907, U.C. Sampdoria, Wycombe Wanderers, Sacramento Republic FC, the Edmonton Elks, NRG and Cloud9. So do golf makers Tour Edge and Bettinardi.

Sales signal: club shops are a reachable niche. Their kit changes by season, so time a personalisation or fulfilment pitch before a launch rather than during one.

Same owner, two options apps

Bold Options has no switching rows. The overlap worth knowing is with HulkApps Infinite Product Options, which had a cleaned count of 5,318 in our October crawl. HulkApps announced it was joining Shop Circle, so the two options apps share an owner. Shopify removed Hulk Product Options from the App Store on 15 October 2026 after a security incident, and its listing now says the app isn't currently available. 25 domains ran working copies of both when we fetched them in October.

"Shop Circle owns the two largest options apps in this category, and only SC Product Options is still on the App Store." - Emma Davies, Data Analyst at TechnologyChecker.io

Sales signal: stores that ran Hulk Product Options may be looking for a replacement, so check what they load now before you pitch. For Shop Circle, the dead-address Bold stores are a ready-made win-back list.

The stack around it

Across the 4,002 live domains in our stack base, Google Analytics runs on 76.99%, Klaviyo on 33.43% and Mailchimp on 17.64%, about double the 8.56% on Kiwi Sizing's stores. Judge.me (22.54%) leads the review apps, and Instafeed is on 15.47%.

Sales signal: a Bold Options store still on Mailchimp is a reasonable prospect for a Shopify-first email tool. Expect a long-standing setup rather than a new build.

What it costs, and what merchants say

SC Product Options' App Store listing (15 October 2026) is free to install, with Basic at $14.99 a month and Premium at $39.99, or $149.99 and $399.99 a year, each with a 14-day trial. Merchants rate it 4.6 from 1,254 reviews; 86% are five stars and 6% one star. Shopify's summary says merchants value complex option logic and priced add-ons, and praise hands-on support with theme conflicts.

Sales signal: conditional logic and priced extras sit on the $39.99 plan, so stores that use them pay more and have the clearest reason to compare. Theme conflicts come up in the reviews, which gives theme developers an opening.

Product Options is no longer one of them; Shop Circle now sells it as SC Product Options, which runs on 4,002 domains in our crawl.

How much does SC Product Options cost?

SC Product Options' App Store listing is free to install and free on development stores. Basic costs $14.99 a month ($149.99 a year) for unlimited options, custom fields and file uploads; Premium costs $39.99 a month ($399.99 a year) and adds priced extras, conditional logic, swatches and editing in the cart. Each has a 14-day trial. Checked 15 October 2026.

What are product options in Shopify?

Shopify's own options are the choices that make variants, such as size or colour. Its help centre allows up to three options and 2,048 variants per product, and suggests a third-party app for more. Apps like Bold Product Options add extra fields on top, such as engraving text, uploads and priced add-ons, without creating more variants.

Can you only have 3 variants on Shopify?

No. Shopify allows three options per product, such as size, colour and material, but up to 2,048 variants made from them, according to its help centre. Stores that need more options, free-text fields or uploads add an app; Bold Product Options, now SC Product Options, is one of the oldest, running on 4,002 live domains in our October 2026 crawl.

How can you tell if a store uses Bold Product Options?

Look in the page source for a script from options.shopapps.site, Shop Circle's current address, or for the sc-product-options app embed served from Shopify's CDN. In a browser, the running script sets BOLD.options.app_script_version to 2 or 3. A store that only references option.boldapps.net carries the old Bold code, which no longer loads.

Did stores run Bold Product Options and Hulk Product Options together?

A few did. 25 domains loaded working copies of both apps when we fetched them in October 2026, a small share of Bold Options' 4,002. Both belong to Shop Circle: HulkApps joined it, and Bold Product Options became SC Product Options. Shopify removed Hulk Product Options from the App Store on 15 October 2026 after a security incident. We don't count the overlap as switching, because the stores ran both rather than moving between them.
