Companies Using Bold Commerce

Our October 2026 crawl finds Bold's Shopify app scripts on 10,683 live domains. Shopify runs on 99.96% of them, because Bold Commerce, a Winnipeg company, builds apps for Shopify stores: subscriptions, upsells and wholesale pricing today, and product options, bundles and currency conversion in the past. Below is the list of companies that use Bold Commerce, with size, country, industry and stack. It includes SpaceX's online store, the Getty Museum Store, MUJI USA and Spindrift.

The 10,683 leaves out 2,403 domains whose only Bold code is the old Product Options or Multi-Currency script. Both addresses now fail in a browser, so those stores carry Bold's code without running it. Of the domains that remain, 5,450 load Bold Subscriptions or Bold Upsell, the two storefront apps on Bold's current Shopify App Store page. On the cleaned count Bold ranks 5th in Website Personalization with 5.19% of the category, behind Zoho PageSense, Rebuy, Adobe Target and Piano.

Bold Commerce Usage Statistics

Bold reads 10,683 live domains in October 2026, after we removed 2,403 stores whose only Bold code no longer loads (see How We Counted). The chart has one point because the cut uses the Bold scripts each store called in the 45 days to 13 October, and earlier months can't be cleaned the same way. Counted raw, as our category table still does, Bold reads 13,205. Since we began tracking Bold on 16 March 2026, 2,348 domains dropped it on at least one hostname: 2,131 dropped it entirely, and 212 still run Bold on another hostname.

How We Counted Bold Commerce Stores

A domain counts here if a page on it loads a script from boldapps.net or boldcommerce.com, the two domains Bold serves its Shopify apps from. That test catches every Bold app, current or retired, so before computing anything we checked which Bold address each store calls. Our crawl found Bold's code on 13,087 live domains. We dropped 3 whose page title marked them as for-sale or gambling sites, then 2,403 domains whose only Bold scripts, in the 45 days to 13 October 2026, came from option.boldapps.net or mc.boldapps.net.

Those two addresses are dead. In October both pointed at a server that answers as a Kubernetes API ("forbidden: User system:anonymous") behind a certificate browsers don't trust, and Chrome refused every request we sent them with a certificate-authority error. The apps behind them have left Bold's catalogue too. The Shopify App Store marks Bold Multi-Currency as not currently available, and the Product Options listing now belongs to Shop Circle as SC Product Options. A store whose only Bold code calls these addresses runs nothing from Bold, so it isn't counted.

Every chart and table on this page uses the remaining 10,683. Our Website Personalization category table hasn't had this correction and still lists Bold at 13,205, 3rd in the category, which is why the two pages disagree; on the cleaned count Bold is 5th with 5.19%. We saw a Bold script on 10,240 of the 10,683 in those 45 days:

  • Bold Subscriptions (sub.boldapps.net): 3,595 domains
  • Bold's pricing engine and Custom Pricing (api.boldcommerce.com, static.boldcommerce.com, cp.boldapps.net): 2,620
  • Bold Upsell (upsells.boldapps.net): 2,077
  • the older Recurring Orders app (ro.boldapps.net): 1,454
  • Bundles (bundles.boldapps.net): 1,331
  • Product Options (107) and Multi-Currency (88), only where the store also loads another Bold app

Many stores call more than one, so the rows add up to more than 10,240. 5,450 loaded Subscriptions or Upsell, and 2,198 called only Recurring Orders or Bundles, sometimes alongside a dead address.

The cut doesn't make every remaining store an active Bold customer. Of 45 random stores we opened on 13 October, 6 were in the dead-address group. Of the other 39, 28 loaded a Bold app that answered normally, 9 called one that reported itself off and 2 made no Bold request while we watched. "Off" means Bold Bundles answering "not installed", the pricing engine answering "enabled: false", or Recurring Orders returning 404 at checkout. Those stores still load Bold code, so they stay in the count. If you want stores that use Bold today, start from the 5,450 on Subscriptions or Upsell.

Expert Analysis: Bold Commerce Growth Trends & Key Signals for Sales Teams in 2026

Emma Davies
Emma DaviesData Analyst, TechnologyChecker

I expected Bold Commerce to be one of the easier Shopify apps to count. A domain counts when a page loads a script from boldapps.net or boldcommerce.com, and Bold has served its apps from those two domains for more than a decade. The rule is exact. What it counts is the problem. Our October 2026 crawl finds Bold code on 13,087 live domains, but that raw number holds every Bold app a store ever installed and never fully removed, including two whose scripts can no longer load. Take those out and Bold is on 10,683 live domains, 5th in Website Personalization with 5.19%. Bold's homepage claims 800K merchants and says 760,000+ have installed its apps. Those are running totals, not live stores.

What we cut, and what's left

In the 45 days to 13 October I recorded which Bold address each of 12,643 live domains called. 2,403 called only option.boldapps.net or mc.boldapps.net. Both now point at a server that answers as a Kubernetes API, and Chrome rejects its certificate, so the scripts never run. Product Options now belongs to Shop Circle, and Multi-Currency is marked not currently available on the App Store. Those stores are out of the count. Among the domains that remain, Subscriptions leads with 3,595, then the pricing engine and Custom Pricing (2,620), Upsell (2,077), Recurring Orders (1,454) and Bundles (1,331). 5,450 load Subscriptions or Upsell, the two storefront apps on Bold's current Shopify App Store page, and 2,198 call only Recurring Orders or Bundles.

Sales signal: filter before you call anyone. A store on Subscriptions or Upsell is a live Bold account. A store whose only Bold code is Recurring Orders or Bundles may have stopped using Bold without cleaning its theme; in our sample, Bundles often answered "not installed".

One month of clean data

The cleaned series has one point, October 2026, because the cut depends on the scripts each store calls today and earlier months can't be cleaned the same way. Counted raw, our category table still shows Bold at 13,205, 3rd in the category. Churn is steady but slow. Since we began tracking Bold on 16 March 2026, 2,348 domains dropped it on at least one hostname; 2,131 dropped it entirely, and 212 still run Bold on another hostname.

"Bold's raw number overstates it by nearly a fifth. 2,403 stores carry only a Bold script that can't load any more, and they don't belong in a count of Bold users." - Emma Davies, Data Analyst at TechnologyChecker.io

Sales signal: this is a mature base that drains slowly. For a rival subscription or upsell app, the 2,131 domains that dropped Bold since March are worth a look, but check that the store is still trading first.

Small, older Shopify stores

67.58% of matched companies with a known size have 1 to 10 employees and 24.76% have 11 to 50. Only 16 have more than 1,000 staff, and most run Bold on a side shop: SpaceX on shop.spacex.com, Hooters on shop.hooters.com, MG Motor UK on shop.mg.co.uk. Age is what sets Bold apart. 54.51% were founded in the 2010s and only 12.06% in the 2020s, against 27.26% on Intelligems' profile. Bold Upsell's listing dates from April 2012, and the customer base looks like stores that installed their apps years ago and kept them.

Sales signal: expect older themes, slow buying cycles and a fair chance that nobody on the team remembers why a Bold script is there. An audit offer ("here is what's still loading on your store") opens more doors here than a feature pitch.

Museums, restaurants and coffee

The United States has 2,930 matched companies, then the United Kingdom (443), Canada (350), Australia (323) and New Zealand (85); those five hold 4,131 of the 4,822 matched companies. Retail leads the industries at 11.83%, but the more telling cluster is food. Food and Beverage Services, Food & Beverages, Food and Beverage Manufacturing and Restaurants add up to 19.96%, which fits Bold's subscriptions history. There's a second group too: institutions and restaurant groups selling merchandise through Bold. The Getty, the Whitney, the New-York Historical Society and Australia's Civil Aviation Safety Authority are on the list, and so are Landry's and Perry's Steakhouse.

Sales signal: museum shops and restaurant merchandise stores are a small, reachable niche. They run Shopify as a side channel with a thin team, so they buy apps that work without much attention.

Bold has no published switching flows. The one candidate, 15 domains that dropped Bold and now run Demandbase, failed our checks. Twelve of the 15 redirect to one 3D-printing filament retailer, printedsolid.com, a 13th no longer resolves, and the last two belong to one fishing-gear store, rambler.co. They all changed between 27 August and 4 September. Bold sells Shopify apps and Demandbase sells B2B account-based marketing, so this was two retailers rebuilding their sites. The more useful overlap is Rebuy: 225 domains run Bold and Rebuy today, out of 317 ever seen with both.

"The only candidate switching row on Bold was two retailers and their alias domains. It told us about two site rebuilds, not about Bold." - Emma Davies, Data Analyst at TechnologyChecker.io

Sales signal: don't build a "Bold to Demandbase" story. For upsell vendors, the 225 shared Rebuy stores are the group to study, since a store running two upsell-capable apps is a consolidation conversation.

The stack around it

Across 10,683 live Bold domains, Shopify runs on 99.96%. Shop Pay (76.96%), Apple Pay (75.17%) and PayPal (65.09%) are the usual checkout buttons, and Google Analytics is on 75.53%. Email gives away the age of these stores. Klaviyo is on 36.98% and Mailchimp on 23.68%; on Intelligems stores, Klaviyo is on 88.93% and Mailchimp on 4.94%. Judge.me (19.55%) and Yotpo (9.01%) lead reviews, and Instafeed is on 14.99%.

Sales signal: a Bold store still on Mailchimp is a likely prospect for a Shopify-first email tool, and an email agency can use the Bold list as a shortcut to older stores that haven't moved their email.

What Bold charges, and what merchants say

Bold's Subscriptions listing (13 October 2026) starts at $24.99 a month plus a 2% transaction fee, then $49.99 plus 1% and $74.99 plus 0.9%, each with a 30-day trial. Bold Upsell is priced by Shopify plan, from $4.99 a month on Basic to $399.99 on Shopify Plus, with a 7-day trial. On the App Store, merchants rate Upsell 4.4 from 595 reviews and Subscriptions 4.0 from 381. Shopify's review summary for Upsell says merchants praise fast support and the results of combining Bold apps, while two critical reviews on the same listing complain about slow replies and offers interfering with a store's checkout.

Sales signal: the Subscriptions fee grows with a store's revenue, so the biggest Bold subscription stores pay the most and have the clearest reason to compare. For alternatives, see our profile of Recharge.

Each comes with a 30-day free trial, and charges are billed in US dollars every 30 days. We see its script on 3,595 domains. Checked 13 October 2026.

What does the company Bold do?

Bold Commerce, based in Winnipeg, builds apps for Shopify stores. Its site now sells six "repeat commerce" apps: rePete, Subscriptions, Upsell, Custom Pricing, Memberships and Discounts. In our crawl the most common Bold code is Subscriptions (3,595 domains), then the pricing engine and Custom Pricing (2,620) and Upsell (2,077). 2,403 more stores carry only scripts from apps Bold no longer lists.

What are bold apps?

Bold apps are the Shopify apps Bold Commerce builds. Its Shopify App Store page lists five today: rePete, Bold AI Upsell & Cross-Sell, Bold Subscriptions, Bold QuickBooks Sync Pro and Xero Order & Inventory Sync. Older Bold apps such as Multi-Currency and Bundles are marked not currently available, and Product Options now belongs to Shop Circle, yet their scripts still sit on thousands of stores.

Do big companies use Bold Commerce?

A few, usually on a side shop. 16 matched companies have more than 1,000 employees, out of 4,531 with a known size. SpaceX loads Bold's pricing engine on shop.spacex.com, Hooters has Bold Upsell installed on shop.hooters.com, and Vera Bradley loads Bold's pricing engine on its main store. Most Bold stores are much smaller: 67.58% of those matched companies have 10 or fewer staff.

Is Bold Product Options still a Bold app?

No. The Shopify App Store listing it used, launched in December 2012, now shows SC Product Options from Shop Circle. Older stores still call option.boldapps.net, where Bold's version loaded from, and on 13 October 2026 that address returned a certificate error in our browser. 1,032 domains call only it, or it and the equally dead Multi-Currency script, so we leave them out of our count.

Is Bold Commerce the same as BigCommerce?

No. BigCommerce is an ecommerce platform that stores are built on. Bold Commerce makes apps that run inside Shopify stores, such as Bold Subscriptions and Bold Upsell. In our October 2026 crawl, Shopify runs on 99.96% of the 10,683 live Bold domains in our stack base, so a Bold store is almost always a Shopify store, not a BigCommerce one.

Do stores use Bold Commerce and Rebuy together?

Some do. 225 domains run Bold and Rebuy today, and 317 have been seen with both since we began tracking in March 2026. That's a small slice of Bold's 10,683 domains. Rebuy is the only rival in Bold's category table that also sells upsells to Shopify stores, on 15,024 domains. We don't count these as switches, because most domains ever seen with both still run both.
