Companies Using KnowBe4

As of our October 2026 crawl, TechnologyChecker.io finds 62,974 domains carrying a KnowBe4 verification record, and 53,551 of them (85%) match a company, because only a real organisation with a KnowBe4 console adds the record. KnowBe4 itself says it is trusted by more than 70,000 organisations. The two numbers are of the same order, though domains and organisations aren't the same unit, and ours includes companies that left without deleting the record.

What we're counting

KnowBe4 is detected by one DNS signal, a Knowbe4-site-verification TXT record. A customer adds it when it registers a root domain in the training console. Nothing removes it afterwards. That's why only 744 domains have lost it since 16 March 2026, a number that says nothing about retention. The monthly line reads 51,458 in June and 62,974 in October. Part of that rise is ours, since the set of domains we crawl turns over every month and our DNS coverage widens, and part is new verifications we can't separate from it.

Who the customers are

The size curve is small-to-mid business. 29.51% of matched companies with a known headcount have 11 to 50 employees, 24.78% have 51 to 200 and 24.72% have 1 to 10. Only 6.53% have more than 1,000, but that's still 3,424 companies, including Allianz, Walgreens, Stellantis, Michelin and Tata Consultancy Services. They're old firms, too: 51.19% of those with a founding year started before 2000, among them Michelin (1889), Allianz (1890) and Goodyear (1898).

Sales Signal: the 11 to 200-employee firms on this list have bought security training without, in most cases, a big security team. They're natural prospects for managed security services.

Where they are and what they do

29,937 of the 53,551 matched companies are American, and the five main English-speaking countries hold about 73%. Germany has 1,988 and the Netherlands 1,332. By industry, financial services leads at 5.74%, then construction (4.67%), insurance (4.64%) and healthcare (3.3%). Financial services and insurance together make up 10.38%. Insurers are well represented among the big names: Allianz, AIG and Nationwide each verified a domain. So are healthcare groups such as Abbott, GE HealthCare and Fresenius Medical Care.

Sales Signal: outside the English-speaking markets the list is thin. A vendor localising training or phishing content for German or Dutch buyers would find fewer than 3,400 matched KnowBe4 companies across those two countries.

Competitors and overlap

We don't publish a competitor table or switching data for KnowBe4. Its training rivals, such as Proofpoint's ZenGuide, Mimecast Engage and Hoxhunt, don't leave a comparable DNS record, and a verification record survives cancellation, so a switch would be invisible for months. What we can see is the email layer around KnowBe4. 10.0% of KnowBe4 domains route mail through Mimecast and 6.48% through Proofpoint, two vendors that also sell awareness training. Barracuda is on 4.2% and Sophos on 1.9%.

Sales Signal: if you sell for Proofpoint or Mimecast, filter your own gateway customers against this list. They already trust you with email and are paying KnowBe4 for the training layer.

The rest of the security stack

Across 63,389 live KnowBe4 domains, Microsoft 365 handles email on 55.31% against Google Workspace on 7.79%, about seven to one. Duo Security is on 3.09% and 1Password on 1.83%, so most of these companies don't publish a verification record for a separate identity vendor. Outside the stack table, our crawl finds Atlassian on 13.64% of KnowBe4 domains and Microsoft Defender on 3.15%. Miro is on 2.89%, so a slice of these companies verify domains for collaboration tools as well as security.

Sales Signal: a KnowBe4 company is almost always a Microsoft shop. Products that plug into Microsoft 365, from email security to identity, fit this list better than anything built around Google Workspace.

What reviewers say

G2 reviewers praise the automated training and full-featured platform (144 mentions) and the user-friendly interface (139). The complaints are phishing issues (37), repetitive and simplistic modules (33), limited customisation (31) and an overwhelming setup (26). Repetitive content fits our data. A base of small firms with no dedicated security staff is the audience most likely to run the default campaigns year after year, and the setup complaint may point the same way, since most of these firms are small.

Sales Signal: content fatigue is the opening for challengers. Pitch fresher or more adaptive training to KnowBe4 accounts at renewal, especially the 1,001+ employee companies with the most staff to keep engaged.
