Companies Using Formidable Forms

With over a decade in web crawling and technographic data analysis, I've examined Formidable Forms across our dataset of 50M+ crawled domains. This analysis draws on 70,250 enriched companies matched from 93,816 detected domains, as of our September 2026 crawl. Formidable Forms is built by Strategy11 and has been on WordPress.org since December 2009; the free Lite edition currently reports 300,000+ active installs and a 96/100 rating from 1,382 reviews.

1. The category leader is a plugin, and that changes what the rank means

Formidable Forms is the largest technology in Surveys & Feedback at 46.74% — more than four times Qualtrics and nine times Typeform. It earns that position honestly on domain count and misleadingly on market position, because it is not sold the way the other four are. Qualtrics and Medallia are enterprise programmes with procurement cycles. Typeform and Tally are hosted products bought with a credit card. Formidable Forms is a plugin you install into a CMS you already run, and a large share of its installs are free.

The consequence for anyone reading the category page: a 46.74% share here measures WordPress's reach, not a vendor's win rate. I would not use this ranking to infer anything about who is winning enterprise feedback budgets.

2. Customer profile: the flattest distribution I have measured

No industry exceeds 5.38%. Construction leads, then Business Consulting (3.08%), IT Services (2.9%), Real Estate (2.87%), Non-profits (2.63%). The top ten verticals together are under 29% of the base. For comparison, Discourse concentrates 27.88% in a single industry and WalkMe 15.35% in banking.

By size, 61.62% have 1-10 employees and 24.8% have 11-50. By founding decade the spread is equally wide: 33.86% in the 2010s, 19.22% in the 2000s, 15.23% in the 2020s, and a long tail running back through the 1990s (11.64%) to 6.20% founded before 1960. Very few technologies show both a micro-business mode and a pre-1960 tail; a plugin that costs nothing to try does.

Sales Signal: firmographic targeting does not work on this base — there is no vertical to aim at. The usable filter is technographic: WordPress plus Elementor plus a paid-tier signal.

3. Geography follows WordPress, not a go-to-market

The United States leads at 44.0% (25,832 companies), then the United Kingdom 10.6%, Canada 7.7%, France 6.2%, Germany 5.6%, the Netherlands 5.1%. Nine countries hold more than 1.5% each. Hosted platforms in this category are more concentrated, because a sales motion has to be built country by country and a plugin download does not.

4. Migration: 1,007 events, and none of them a corridor

This profile produced the largest single switching flow in the programme — 1,007 domains dropped Formidable Forms and now run Contact Form 7 — and it fails the first test I apply. Contact Form 7 sits on 15.68% of the domains that kept Formidable Forms against 8.92% of those that left. A destination that is commoner among stayers than leavers is not a destination.

15,506 domains run both plugins today, and 94% of every pair that has ever run both still does. Gravity Forms clears the base rate (2.18x) but fails coexistence at 80%. WPForms inverts the same way as Contact Form 7. Movement to the hosted platforms is negligible: four domains to Typeform, four to Tally, none to Wufoo.

The mechanism is simple and worth generalising: a WordPress site can run several form plugins simultaneously, and frequently does — one arrived with the theme, another was added for a quote or application form. Where a platform permits stacking, churn data cannot produce a migration corridor, and reading one into it would be an error. customerMigration ships null.

Sales Signal: do not build displacement messaging against Contact Form 7. The 15,506 domains running both are a cross-sell list, not a competitive battleground.

5. Technology ecosystem

WordPress 100% is definitional — the rule matches /wp-content/plugins/formidable/. Beyond that, the table describes an ordinary WordPress estate: jQuery 96.81%, jQuery Migrate 88.66%, Elementor 32.42%, the Divi theme 12.5%.

Two numbers stand out. Yoast SEO at 48.47%, with RankMath 9.68% and All in One SEO 7.01%, puts about two-thirds of the base on a dedicated SEO plugin — these are sites that care about being found. And Google Analytics at only 58.63% is low for a commercial web property, which fits a base weighted toward very small organisations. Hosting is unusually dispersed: Cloudflare 28.73%, Apache 28.67%, Nginx 23.63%, GoDaddy 18.09%, LiteSpeed 15.67%, WP Engine 8.06% — no single host owns this population, which is itself evidence that the count is not one platform's fleet.

Prospecting template: "Hi [Name], I noticed [Company] runs Formidable Forms on [domain] alongside WordPress and Elementor. We work with teams collecting [quotes/applications/intake] through WordPress and help them [value prop]."

Targeting strategy: ignore industry filters on this base — there is no concentration to exploit. Filter technographically instead: Formidable Forms plus Elementor (32.42%) plus WooCommerce (16.05%) identifies commercial WordPress sites; Formidable plus Yoast (48.47%) identifies ones investing in organic acquisition.

Competitive angle: not displacement. The 15,506 domains running both Formidable Forms and Contact Form 7 are evidence that this market stacks, and the same is true of WPForms (1,308 running both). Sell alongside, not against.
