Companies Using Acquia Cloud Platform

I'm David Thomson, CTO at TechnologyChecker.io, and I've spent more than ten years building crawling and indexing infrastructure. This analysis covers 11,331 domains hosted on Acquia Cloud Platform as of our September 2026 crawl, 5,540 of them matched to a company record. Acquia's stack sets an X-AH-Environment response header on the sites it serves, so a detection means the page came off Acquia's platform. The count is still a floor. A CDN can strip that header, and 1,850 Acquia Cloud Site Factory domains don't send it.

Growth trajectory

Our records show Acquia on 8,337 domains in June 2026 and 11,331 in September. Mostly, that isn't growth. Of the current domains we first detected in August, 1,401 of 1,529 had entered our crawl within three days of that detection, and July shows 1,313 of 1,406: sites we'd only just reached, not sites that had just moved to Acquia. The set of domains we crawl turns over every month, with dead sites dropping out and new ones added, and our detection signals widen over time.

Position is the steadier read. In PaaS, Acquia ranks #14 of 44 with 0.43%, behind general clouds such as Amazon Web Services (1,000,296 domains) that aren't chasing a Drupal buyer. On the 171,819 live Drupal domains we track, Pantheon hosts 12,694 and Acquia 11,307, so Acquia is second by 1,387 domains. Given the floor, I'd call that close rather than settled.

Sales Signal: Don't pitch Acquia accounts on growth. These are large Drupal estates that change slowly, so time outreach to what you can observe: a hosting header that disappears, or a sibling site that has already moved.

Customer profile

The size table looks like two customer bases stacked together: 34.79% of the 5,277 companies with a size on record have 1-10 employees, and 16.62% employ more than 1,000. The small end is less small than it looks. Three enterprise fleets hold 771 of the 11,345 live domains: Privia Health's 354 physician-practice sites on one Drupal multisite, 225 Warner Music Group artist sites and 192 Bayer consumer-health brand sites, and many of those land in the 1-10 row. Age agrees, with 26.89% founded before 1960.

Acquia's customer stories match what we detect. Bayer, Mars, Dana-Farber Cancer Institute, UNICEF, IRONMAN and UCSF are all featured by Acquia and all appear in our live crawl. Mars's story is about Site Factory, and mars.com carries both the Cloud Platform header and Site Factory asset paths. Some big detections are single properties, such as the IRS on sa.www4.irs.gov and Northwell Health on cancer.northwell.edu.

Sales Signal: Qualify on the domain, not the logo. A Privia practice site or a Bayer brand site is one node in a fleet, so one conversation with the parent's digital team can cover hundreds of domains.

Industry and geographic concentration

As published, Medical Practices tops the industry table at 8.63%, but Privia alone is 185 of those 408 records. Take the three fleets out and Government Administration is #1 at 8.49%, with Hospitals and Health Care at 7.12% and Medical Practices down to 4.99%. The federal names are hard to miss: the IRS, the Social Security Administration, NIH and the FAA.

Geography is concentrated but not purely American. The US has 3,501 of 5,414 companies with a known country (64.67%), the US, UK, Canada, Australia and Ireland reach 79.2%, and France is fourth with 210.

Sales Signal: Build Acquia lists from Government Administration and Hospitals and Health Care, then work federal agencies and their contractors account by account.

Migration patterns

One flow passes every test we apply. 63 domains moved from Acquia to Pantheon and 9 went back, a 7:1 direction. Of the 631 domains that left Acquia entirely, 9.98% now run on Pantheon against 0.30% of those that stayed, about a 33x lift, and 51 of the 63 changed host on the same day. But 63 domains is roughly 30 organisations. The Schwabe pharmaceutical group accounts for more than 20, and 12 are .edu domains, four of them Ventura County Community College District sites. Old Dominion University and Bryn Mawr College moved too.

Platform.sh took 136 Acquia domains and returned 2, but about 125 of them belong to one customer, Solvay, which moved its brand and redirect domains around September 4, 2026. That's one purchasing decision. Vercel's 38 falls under our 50-domain publishing floor. And AWS isn't a destination: it shows up on 16.48% of sites that stayed and 13.15% of sites that left, and Azure follows the same pattern.

Sales Signal: Pantheon and its agencies have a short, real list: Acquia sites in higher education and pharma, where peers have already moved. Nobody should build pipeline on the Solvay spike.

Technology ecosystem

Drupal on 99.67% of Acquia domains is a dependency, not a finding. The number that matters is Drupal Multisite at 56.62%: most Acquia sites share a codebase with siblings. Cloudflare sits on 52.36%, but that includes Acquia Edge powered by Cloudflare, Acquia's own add-on, so customer-bought Cloudflare can't be split out. Akamai's 9.78% is a floor, because its signal is narrow.

The surprise is governance. Acquia completed its purchase of Monsido in January 2024 and had rebranded it Acquia Optimize by October 2024, yet Monsido shows on only 4.28% of Acquia domains, behind Siteimprove at 9.87%. OneTrust leads consent at 34.41%.

Sales Signal: Acquia's own governance product trails a rival inside its own base, so both vendors have a list, and most Acquia domains run neither. Accessibility overlays are thin too, with UserWay on 2.28%.

G2 review signals

There aren't any to read. G2's Acquia Cloud Platform listing shows 0 reviews as of September 22, 2026. Acquia's reviews sit under its umbrella Acquia Digital Experience Platform listing, which mixes DAM, CDP and personalization. We triangulate from migration behaviour instead. The Pantheon flow is the closest thing to a review, 63 domains out and 9 back, and a public r/drupal thread asking why Acquia costs more than Pantheon describes the same move. It's one discussion, not evidence.

Sales Signal: With no reviews to quote, don't invent sentiment. Show the prospect its host, its multisite footprint and named peers that moved.

Competitive angle: Organisations that moved to Pantheon have peers still on Acquia. Start with higher education, 12 of the 63 moved domains.
