Companies Using Platform.sh

I pulled Platform.sh out of our October 2026 crawl expecting a small developer host. The customer list says otherwise. A domain counts when its HTTP responses carry the routing headers Platform.sh's edge adds, x-platform-router and three siblings, so this is a hosting count, not a script count. The rule is clean. Of 40 random live domains, 33 answered a plain request and 32 of those sent the headers. Six refused automated requests and one didn't resolve. That gives 11,030 live domains, 6,152 of them matched to a company. A site behind a CDN that strips the headers is invisible to us, so 11,030 is a floor.

Platform.sh is now Upsun

Upsun's about page says it plainly: "Upsun is the new name for Platform.sh." The company began as Commerce Guys in 2009, spun Platform.sh out in 2015, launched a product called Upsun in 2023 and moved the whole brand over in 2025. The original service carries on as Upsun Fixed, and the newer Upsun Flex manages resources per container. Nothing changed in the traffic we see. platform.sh itself now answers with a redirect to upsun.com, and that redirect carries the same headers. I've kept the name Platform.sh here because it's what the sites report.

Sales signal: prospects will use either name. Treat Platform.sh and Upsun as one vendor in your CRM and in search filters.

Flat growth, and a lot of aliases

The chart reads 8,166 in June, 10,070 in July, 10,143 in August, 10,885 in September and 11,030 in October. The July step is mostly ours: the domains we crawl turn over every month, with dead sites leaving and new ones arriving, and our detection widens over time. 1,606 domains dropped Platform.sh since mid-March, and 381 of them still run it on another hostname. Aliases matter more than usual here. In the 40-domain sample, 15 redirected to another domain, and brand estates repeat: 44 Coface domains, 38 for Eau Thermale Avène and 35 for Dyson.

Sales signal: dedupe by brand and redirect target first. The account list is much shorter than 11,030, and each account is bigger than its domain count suggests.

Who the customers are

Size is mixed, with a heavy top end. 30.59% of matched companies with a known size have 1 to 10 employees, but 25.28% have more than 200 and 536 have more than 1,000. Age is the clearer signal: 21.02% were founded before 1960, the largest group, and only 5.09% in the 2020s. Pantheon's profile looks similar on age (19.96% before 1960), and Acquia Cloud Platform's runs older (26.89%). The large names usually host one property: Xerox its shop, Siemens Healthineers a cancer-care site, Pinterest its help centre, MSF its medical guidelines, Mercer a shop. KBR, Syngenta, DKSH and Avolta run their main corporate sites here.

Sales signal: these are established organisations whose web team or agency chose a managed platform. Sell to whoever owns the property, and expect procurement.

More European than its rivals

The United States leads with 1,988 matched companies, then the United Kingdom (649), Germany (532), France (530) and Australia (439). That's about three American companies per British one, where Acquia Cloud Platform's profile shows about 10 and Pantheon's about 18. Upsun is a Paris company with subsidiaries in the UK and Germany, according to its impressum, and the customer map leans the same way. Industries lean to trade: Retail (7.3%), Wholesale (4.17%) and Wholesale Building Materials (2.03%) hold 13.5% together, with Non-profit Organizations (3.16%) third.

Sales signal: for European agencies and vendors selling into Drupal or Magento estates, this list fits better than Pantheon's, which is overwhelmingly American.

Where sites come from and go

These counts are domains, since we began tracking in March 2026. The largest row needs a footnote. 169 domains moved from Acquia Cloud Platform, but 149 of them are Solvay brand and country domains, such as rhodia.co.uk and nocolok.com, that redirect to Solvay's sites. That's one company moving one estate, most of it in September. Without Solvay, Acquia sent 20 and took 2. Vercel is the real outflow: 41 domains left for Vercel, 35 in the last 90 days, against 6 that came the other way, and only 7 of the 41 still run Platform.sh elsewhere. Pantheon took 17 and gave 14, but 9 of the 17 still run Platform.sh on another hostname. WP Engine sent 33 and took 14.

Sales signal: a site that moves to Vercel is most likely getting a new JavaScript front end. Agencies that do those rebuilds should watch the Drupal half of this list, and so should Upsun's retention team.

The stack around it

Percentages here are of the 11,067 live domains in our clean set. Two estates make up most of it: Magento on 35.92%, with Adobe Commerce on 8.56%, and Drupal on 33.42%. Adobe Experience Manager shows on 24.3%, but don't read that as AEM. On the stores we opened, the match was Adobe's real-user-monitoring script, and 2,383 of the 2,689 domains flagged also run Magento or Adobe Commerce. New Relic (36.97%) tracks the stores as well: 3,501 of its 4,092 domains here are Magento or Adobe Commerce. Blackfire, the profiler Upsun bought in 2021, is on 5.89%, and only 8 of its 652 domains are stores. Upsun's about page also names Adobe among its users.

Sales signal: split the list in two before outreach. The Magento stores buy commerce extensions, search and performance work. The Drupal sites hold most of the universities and non-profits.

What it costs

Upsun's pricing page (checked 10 October 2026, shown in euros) is usage-based. Each project costs €9 a month and each user licence €10, and CPU, memory and storage are billed per second; a shared application CPU is listed at €0.033 an hour. Standard support adds 10% of spend, and the 99.9% and 99.99% uptime SLAs add 20% and 45% of project value on a 12-month term. New accounts get 15 days free with no card.

Sales signal: on usage pricing, traffic growth becomes a budget conversation. Stores heading into peak season are the accounts most likely to review their hosting.
