Companies Using Akamai mPulse

Our live crawl identifies 46,730 domains running Akamai mPulse, including Deloitte, McDonald's, Infosys, IBM and PwC. Each detection is a page actively loading the mPulse real user monitoring agent, so this measures live deployments rather than licences. 22,744 domains resolve to an identifiable company. The base is consumer-facing rather than technical: retail and restaurants lead it, and 53.52% of these domains also sit behind the Akamai CDN. Below is the full list of companies using Akamai mPulse, with headcount, industry, location and the exact host where we found it.

Akamai mPulse Usage Statistics

Akamai mPulse reads 27,251 domains on our first full monthly rollup in June 2026 and 46,730 by August 2026. A rise of that size over two months is not adoption. It reflects our detection coverage for the mPulse script host widening, alongside the ordinary monthly turnover of the crawled domain set as dead sites drop out and new ones are added. Read the shape as our reach expanding rather than the product growing 71% in a quarter.

Akamai mPulse Market Share Among APM & Error Tracking

Akamai mPulse holds 1.82% of the APM & Error Tracking category and ranks 7th of 50 tracked technologies. The category is dominated by Sentry at 71.99%, whose free and open-source error SDK ships in a very large number of projects. mPulse is a licensed enterprise product measuring a narrower thing, real user page performance, so domain count understates its standing among paying customers.

Akamai mPulse Customers by Company Size & Age

Companies of 1 to 10 employees make up 50.86% of matched domains. That figure describes deployment rather than purchasing: mPulse is typically bought once by a large organisation and then applied across brand, campaign and regional domains that resolve to smaller local entities. Organisations above 1,000 employees account for 9.06% of matched domains, and that is where the licence is held.

What Industries Use Akamai mPulse the Most?

Retail leads at 6.97%, followed by Restaurants (5.57%), Real Estate (4.02%), Government Administration (3.91%) and Hospitality (3.54%).

Restaurants1,051 (5.57%)
Real Estate758 (4.02%)
Government Administration738 (3.91%)
Hospitality668 (3.54%)

Retail, Restaurants and Hospitality together are 16.08% of matched domains. Real user monitoring is bought where page speed has a direct revenue consequence, and consumer-facing commerce is where that link is easiest to prove. Government Administration at 3.91% is the interesting outlier: public sector sites adopt RUM for accessibility and service-standard reporting rather than conversion.

Akamai mPulse Alternatives & Competitors

Within APM & Error Tracking, mPulse sits behind Sentry (1,851,998 domains), New Relic (226,775) and Datadog (148,622). New Relic and Datadog are the genuine substitutes, since both offer real user monitoring alongside backend observability; Sentry's lead comes from free error-tracking distribution rather than comparable positioning.

Expert Analysis: Akamai mPulse Growth Trends & Key Signals for Sales Teams in 2026

David Thomson
David ThomsonCTO, TechnologyChecker

Monitoring bought by retailers, not engineers

Most application monitoring tools show customer bases weighted toward software and IT services, because engineers choose them. Akamai mPulse does not. Retail leads at 6.97% of matched domains, Restaurants follow at 5.57%, and adding Hospitality brings consumer-facing commerce to 16.08%.

That reflects what real user monitoring is actually sold on. mPulse measures what live visitors experience: page load timings, Core Web Vitals, session-level performance. The business case is a revenue argument rather than an engineering one, and it is easiest to make where a slow page has a directly measurable cost. Retail and restaurants are where that argument lands.

The outlier worth naming is Government Administration at 3.91%. Public sector sites rarely buy monitoring on conversion grounds; they buy it for accessibility and service-standard reporting. It is a small share, but it identifies a distinct buying motion inside the same product.

Retail, restaurants and hospitality are 16.08% of mPulse deployments. Real user monitoring sells where a slow page has a price attached to it.

Half of these domains are already Akamai customers

The single most commercially useful figure on this page is in the technology stack: the Akamai CDN appears on 53.52% of mPulse domains. Just over half of mPulse deployments sit behind Akamai's own edge network.

That is the cross-sell the product exists to support, and the number quantifies how well it works. It also frames the remaining 46%: those are organisations running mPulse without buying Akamai delivery, which makes them a distinct and arguably more interesting segment, since they chose the monitoring product on its own merits rather than as an add-on to an existing contract.

The Boomerang relationship, stated plainly

Boomerang is the open-source performance library Akamai maintains. mPulse is the commercial product built on top of it, and it ships that library. The consequence for measurement is that almost every mPulse domain also matches the generic Boomerang signature.

This matters for reading our own category table. Boomerang appears separately at 52,708 domains, ranked fourth in APM & Error Tracking, which invites the assumption that it is an independent product with its own install base. It is very largely the same deployments counted through a broader signal. Anyone comparing the two rows should treat mPulse as the specific, licensed subset rather than adding them together.

Movement against New Relic and Datadog is real

mPulse shows large exchanges with both New Relic and Datadog: 1,613 domains arriving from New Relic and 1,566 from Datadog, against 1,449 and 1,298 leaving. Numbers that symmetric usually indicate coexistence rather than migration, so we tested them before publishing.

Among domains that still run mPulse, 5.63% carry New Relic and 3.46% carry Datadog. Among domains that dropped mPulse, those figures rise to 9.67% and 8.67%. The destination is over-represented among leavers, by 1.7x and 2.5x respectively, which is the signature of genuine displacement rather than tools sitting side by side. Sentry failed the same test, appearing on 3.30% of active domains against 2.16% of churned ones, so we publish no Sentry row.

Symmetric switching counts usually mean coexistence. These survived the test: leavers carry New Relic 1.7x and Datadog 2.5x more often than stayers do.

Reading the size distribution correctly

Half of matched mPulse domains, 50.86%, belong to companies with fewer than 10 employees. Taken literally that would describe a small-business product, which mPulse plainly is not.

The explanation is the same one that applies to every enterprise platform deployed across an estate. A licence is bought once by a large organisation and then applied to brand, campaign and regional domains, each of which resolves to whatever local entity owns it. The 9.06% of matched domains above 1,000 employees is the better guide to who signs the contract. TechnologyChecker.io publishes 46,730 as the count of domains actively loading the agent, and the growth from 27,251 in June reflects our detection reach widening across those months rather than a 71% market expansion.

Frequently Asked Questions

Who uses Akamai mPulse?

Our live crawl finds Akamai mPulse on 46,730 domains, resolving to 22,744 identifiable companies. Named users include Deloitte, McDonald's, Infosys, IBM and PwC. The base is consumer-facing: retail is the largest industry at 6.97% and restaurants second at 5.57%, reflecting where page speed has a direct revenue consequence.

How many customers does Akamai mPulse have?

We detect 46,730 domains running Akamai mPulse across our monthly crawl of live business domains. Company data could be matched for 22,744 of them (48.7%), and every company-size, industry and country breakdown on this page describes that matched subset rather than the full detected base. A further 14,970 domains carried a Akamai mPulse detection previously and no longer do.

What is Akamai mPulse's market share?

Akamai mPulse holds 1.82% of our APM & Error Tracking category and ranks 7th of 50 tracked technologies. Share is counted by distinct domains, so Sentry's free error SDK dominates at 71.99%. Among licensed real user monitoring products specifically, mPulse's standing is considerably stronger than the category rank suggests.

What are the best alternatives to Akamai mPulse?

The closest substitutes are New Relic (226,775 domains) and Datadog (148,622), both of which offer real user monitoring alongside backend observability. Sentry leads the category at 1,851,998 domains but competes on error tracking rather than performance monitoring, and its lead comes from free open-source distribution.

Which countries use Akamai mPulse the most?

The United States leads at 51.47% of matched companies (11,192), followed by the United Kingdom at 6.71% (1,458), India at 4.13% (897), Canada at 3.56% (774) and Germany at 3.17% (690). The Indian share runs above our corpus norm, reflecting the systems integrators prominent in the named list.

What size companies use Akamai mPulse?

The raw distribution shows 50.86% of matched domains at 1 to 10 employees, which reflects deployment rather than purchasing. Large organisations apply mPulse across brand, campaign and regional domains that resolve to small local entities. Organisations above 1,000 employees account for 9.06% of matched domains, and that is where the licence sits.

How old are companies that use Akamai mPulse?

Companies founded in the 2010s are the largest group at 31.56% of matched customers, followed by the 2000s at 16.23%, those founded before 1960 at 14.74% and the 2020s at 12.68%. The base is younger than most enterprise monitoring tools, which follows from the consumer-commerce weighting in the industry data.

What is the ideal customer profile for Akamai mPulse?

The ideal Akamai mPulse customer is: Company Size: 1-50 employees, Location: US, UK, or India, Founded: 2010s, Industry: Retail, restaurants, government — based on our analysis of 22,744 enriched companies at TechnologyChecker.io.

How many companies use Akamai mPulse?

We detect mPulse on 46,730 domains as of our August 2026 crawl, of which 22,744 match to a named company. Because mPulse is typically licensed once and deployed across many brand and regional domains, the number of distinct paying customers is considerably lower than the domain count.

What industries use Akamai mPulse most?

Retail leads at 6.97% of matched domains, followed by Restaurants at 5.57%, Real Estate at 4.02%, Government Administration at 3.91% and Hospitality at 3.54%. Retail, restaurants and hospitality together are 16.08%, which is where page performance maps most directly onto revenue.

How do you detect Akamai mPulse?

We match several mPulse-specific signals: the s.go-mpulse.net script host, the BOOMR_API_key JavaScript object, the boomr script elements mPulse injects, and an Akamai A/B testing cookie. All require the agent to be loading on a page we crawled, so a detection means mPulse is actively running there.

What is the difference between Akamai mPulse and Boomerang?

Boomerang is the open-source performance library that Akamai maintains; mPulse is the commercial product built on it. Almost every mPulse domain also matches the generic Boomerang signature, because mPulse ships that library. Our separate Boomerang count is therefore largely mPulse deployments plus a smaller number of standalone open-source users.

What technologies are used alongside Akamai mPulse?

Google Tag Manager appears on 81.15% of mPulse domains and Google Analytics on 76.27%. The most diagnostic figure is the Akamai CDN itself on 53.52%, so just over half of deployments sit behind Akamai's edge. Adobe Experience Platform Launch on 49.17% marks the enterprise marketing segment within the list.

Do companies switch between Akamai mPulse and other monitoring tools?

Yes, and it runs in both directions. We recorded 1,613 domains arriving from New Relic and 1,566 from Datadog, against 1,449 and 1,298 moving the other way. We tested these before publishing: domains that dropped mPulse carry New Relic at 9.67% and Datadog at 8.67%, against 5.63% and 3.46% of domains that kept it, so the destinations really are over-represented among leavers.
