Companies Using Shopware

I analysed Shopware against our September 2026 crawl. A Shopware store is recognisable from its own page code: Shopware 6 loads its theme from a hashed /theme/ path and its scripts from /bundles/storefront/, and Shopware 5 loads combined files from /web/cache/. On that basis 16,206 domains run a live Shopware store and 11,345 of them match a company record. When we loaded 147 detected pages across every signal we use, all 147 were Shopware storefronts. A flat base, and a third of it on a retired version

The chart reads 11,955 in June, 14,655 in July, 15,599 in August and 16,206 in September. That slope is mostly us: the June to July step is our crawl widening, dead domains leave and new ones join every month, and only 11.66% of today's live domains were first seen in August or September. The more useful number is inside the base. We read a version on 15,937 live domains and verified each label by loading samples of stores. About 66% run Shopware 6 and about 34%, roughly 5,400 stores, still run Shopware 5, a line that stopped getting security fixes at the end of July 2024, per Shopware's own migration page.

Sales signal: size the market on September's 16,206 and ignore the slope. The Shopware 5 cohort is the list to work: every one of those stores needs a rebuild on Shopware 6 or another platform, and agencies, hosting firms and security vendors each have something to sell into that decision.

Who the customers are

This is a mid-market base by ecommerce standards. 59.78% of matched companies have 1 to 10 employees, 27.02% have 11 to 50 and 8.93% have 51 to 200; the Shopify profile puts 73.55% at 1 to 10. The companies are old: 17.84% were founded before 1960, against 3.09% on Shopify's profile. 66 have more than 1,000 staff, and they tend to run Shopware beside the corporate site rather than as it: Dräger on safetyshop.draeger.com, Wirtgen Group on a merchandise shop, Rosenberger on a product catalogue. 32 of the 50 companies named on this page run it on a subdomain. Shopware's own customer stories page names brands too; we name only stores we detected and loaded ourselves.

Sales signal: at larger companies the buyer is whoever owns the shop subdomain, often a spare-parts or service team, not corporate IT. At the small end, expect an owner-run retailer working with a local agency.

A DACH platform first

Germany has 8,962 matched companies, Switzerland 374 and Austria 324: 9,660, or 86.7% of those with a known country. Globally Shopware ranks 25th of 720 at 0.22%. Counted by companies in DACH, it has the fifth-largest row, and two of the four above it (Wix eCommerce, Squarespace Commerce) count every Wix and Squarespace site whether it sells or not. Among platforms a merchant picks to run a store, it's third, behind WooCommerce (45,392) and Shopify (21,080), and ahead of Magento (3,129) and JTL-Shop (2,574). In Germany alone it's about 3.6 times Magento's count. Retail (19.34%) and Wholesale (7.31%) lead the industries, and a second look at the named list shows why wholesale is so high: b2b.jacob.de, shop.lecot.be and KROHNE's instrument shop all sell to trade buyers. Our European ecommerce statistics put that regional market in context.

Sales signal: anything sold into Shopware stores needs German-language onboarding and a B2B story (customer-specific prices, quotes, ERP sync). Outside DACH the Netherlands (376) and the US (440) are the next rows, and several of those US rows are German brands.

Where stores go when they leave

One destination passes our switching tests. Since we began tracking in March 2026, 187 domains replaced Shopware with Shopify and 21 went the other way, a direction ratio of about 9 to 1. 159 of the 187 moved in the last 90 days. Only 19.5% of the domains we have ever seen running both platforms still do, so these are completed moves, not stores testing a second system. We opened 30 of them: all 30 were live Shopify stores with no Shopware code left, among them Mexx, Revox, BÄR Schuhe and Intersport Wolf, and 102 of the 187 are .de domains. WooCommerce appears as a destination too, but half of those sites still run both, so we don't count it as switching.

The storefront stack

PayPal runs on 50.66% of the 16,252 live Shopware domains. Its extension ships with Shopware 6 as standard, and PayPal has been a Shopware shareholder since 2022, so read that share as partly a default. Amazon Pay follows at 5.38%. Measurement is split between Google Tag Manager (42.99%), Google Analytics (33.78%) and the German and privacy-minded picks, Matomo (5.86%), etracker (2.23%) and econda (0.44%). Consent tools are common: Usercentrics 8.65%, Cookiebot 6.22%, Cookie Control 6.22%. For email, Klaviyo reaches only 4.93% and Brevo 3.36%, and Microsoft 365 hosts mail for 25.49%.

Sales signal: the thin email-marketing layer is the gap. Klaviyo, the most common marketing email tool here, shows on fewer than one Shopware store in twenty, in a base of businesses with staff and catalogues to promote.

G2 review signals

Shopware scores 4.2 out of 5 from 197 G2 reviews. Customisation, ease of use and features each draw 10 positive mentions. The negatives are cost (5), update issues (5), complex setup (4) and a steep learning curve (4). Update pain is the review theme our data confirms: a platform whose users complain that upgrades break plugins is also one where a third of stores haven't made the jump from 5 to 6.

Sales signal: lead with upgrade risk, not features. A fixed-price Shopware 5 to 6 migration, or a plugin compatibility audit, answers the complaint reviewers write about most.
