Companies Using Klarna Checkout
Our live crawl identifies 191,675 domains offering Klarna Checkout, including Airbnb, Decathlon, Lululemon, Coach, Tommy Hilfiger, Forever 21 and O'Reilly Auto Parts. Each detection is a storefront actively loading Klarna's checkout or on-site messaging code, so this measures live merchant deployments rather than signed contracts. 47,662 domains resolve to an identifiable company. The most striking result is geographic: this is the only major payment method we track where the United States is not the leading market. The United Kingdom leads at 20.78%, Germany follows at 16.93%, and the US ranks fourth. Below is the full list of companies using Klarna Checkout, with headcount, industry, location and the exact host where we found it.

Klarna Checkout Usage Statistics
Klarna Checkout reads 88,845 domains on our first full monthly rollup in June 2026 and 191,675 by August 2026. The June to July step more than doubles the count and is almost entirely our detection coverage widening rather than merchant adoption, since the crawled domain set also turns over every month as dead stores drop out and new ones enter. July to August adds 6%, and that flatter second half is the more reliable read on the current trend.

Which Countries Use Klarna Checkout the Most?
This is the most European distribution of any payment method we publish. The United Kingdom leads with 9,659 matched merchants (20.78%), followed by Germany at 16.93% (7,869), Italy at 8.19% (3,805) and only then the United States at 8.14% (3,783). France, the Netherlands, Spain and Klarna's home market Sweden follow. For comparison, Shop Pay is 48.70% US.
Share of the 47,662 Klarna Checkout domains we matched to a company record — 24.9% of the 191,675 we detect. Top 15 countries shown, so these do not sum to 100%. Domains with no matching company record are not represented here and skew small and independent.
Klarna Checkout Market Share Among Payment Processing
Klarna Checkout holds 2.33% of the Payment Processing category and ranks 9th of 50 tracked technologies, just behind Stripe at 2.62%. These shares overlap rather than divide a market: Mastercard and Visa each appear on 93.40% of Klarna Checkout storefronts and Apple Pay on 91.53%, because a single checkout presents several methods at once. The figure measures how widely the option is offered.
Top Competitors by Market Share
Klarna Checkout Customers by Company Size & Age
Merchants with 1 to 10 employees are 78.88% of matched companies and 11 to 50 a further 14.86%, so 93.74% have fewer than 50 staff. Organisations above 1,000 employees account for 0.59%. Pay-later checkout is adopted overwhelmingly by small direct-to-consumer retailers, with the large brands in the named list being the exception rather than the pattern.

What Industries Use Klarna Checkout the Most?
Retail leads at 19.54%, followed by Retail Apparel and Fashion (10.71%), Retail Luxury Goods and Jewelry (3.97%), Personal Care Product Manufacturing (3.05%) and Manufacturing (2.80%).
Retail, apparel and luxury goods together are 34.22% of matched merchants, and adding personal care and sporting goods takes discretionary consumer categories past 39%. That is the buy-now-pay-later basket exactly: fashion, beauty and sporting goods, where basket sizes are large enough for instalments to change a purchase decision. Groceries and essentials are absent.
Klarna Checkout Alternatives & Competitors
Within Payment Processing, Klarna Checkout ranks 9th behind PayPal (1,575,738 domains), Apple Pay (1,273,419), Shop Pay (1,203,619), Visa and Mastercard. These are co-present methods rather than alternatives: over 90% of Klarna Checkout storefronts also offer the card networks and Apple Pay.

Cloudflare appears on 97.65% of these domains and Shopify on 95.76%, so Klarna Checkout is overwhelmingly deployed inside the Shopify ecosystem. Facebook Pixel on 47.38% is the more commercially telling figure: these are performance-marketing-driven direct-to-consumer retailers, which is the same audience Klarna's own advertising targets.

Expert Analysis: Klarna Checkout Growth Trends & Key Signals for Sales Teams in 2026

The one payment method where America is not the biggest market
Every payment technology we have profiled shows the same geographic shape: the United States first, usually by a wide margin, with the United Kingdom and Canada trailing. Shop Pay is 48.70% American. Klarna Checkout is not.
The United Kingdom leads at 20.78% of matched merchants, Germany follows at 16.93%, Italy takes 8.19%, and the United States ranks fourth at 8.14%. France, the Netherlands and Spain follow, with Klarna's home market of Sweden at 3.87%. On our data this is a European payment network that also operates in America, rather than a global one headquartered in Stockholm.
That distribution has a regulatory explanation as much as a commercial one. Instalment credit at the point of sale sits inside consumer credit rules that differ sharply by jurisdiction, and Klarna built its merchant base market by market across Europe over more than a decade. The American footprint is real but comparatively recent, and the crawl shows it has not yet caught the European core.
The United States is Klarna Checkout's fourth-largest market, behind the UK, Germany and Italy. No other payment method we track has that shape.
Two Klarna entries, and only one of them is Klarna
Anyone comparing this page against our buy-now-pay-later data will find a contradiction worth explaining, because it is a measurement artefact rather than a fact about the market.
Our corpus carries a separate, narrower Klarna entry filed under Buy Now Pay Later. It matches a single signal, the Klarna Payments SDK, and reaches roughly 900 domains. This page's entry matches six independent signals, including Klarna's session cookies, two JavaScript objects, the checkout button element and a content security policy naming Klarna's own hosts, and reaches 191,675. The two sets share only 215 domains.
The consequence is that any ranking built on the narrower entry understates Klarna by more than two orders of magnitude, and a buy-now-pay-later comparison drawn from it would put Klarna far below competitors it plainly outweighs. The figure on this page is the one that reflects Klarna's deployed merchant base.
A small-merchant product with famous logos on top
The named list opens with Airbnb, Decathlon, Lululemon, Coach, Tommy Hilfiger, Forever 21 and two American auto-parts chains. The distribution underneath tells a different story: 78.88% of matched merchants have ten or fewer employees, 93.74% have fewer than fifty, and only 0.59% exceed a thousand.
Both are true and the combination is the point. Klarna's commercial position rests on a very long tail of small direct-to-consumer retailers, while its brand recognition rests on a short list of large ones. For anyone using this list to sell, those are two entirely different segments with different budgets, buying processes and needs, and treating the 47,662 identified merchants as one audience would be a mistake.
The basket is discretionary, and that is the whole business
Retail leads at 19.54%, with apparel and fashion at 10.71% and luxury goods and jewellery at 3.97%. Personal care manufacturing takes 3.05% and sporting goods 2.35%. Together the discretionary consumer categories exceed 39% of matched merchants.
What is absent matters as much. Groceries, utilities and essential services barely register. Instalment payment changes a purchase decision when the basket is large and the purchase is optional, which is precisely the fashion, beauty and sporting goods profile the data shows. A merchant selling weekly essentials has no reason to offer it, and the distribution reflects that with unusual clarity.
Mastercard and Visa each appear on 93.40% of Klarna Checkout storefronts. Payment methods are not alternatives to one another, so this page publishes no switching table.
Why there is no migration section
The obvious analysis for a payment page is which providers merchants move between, and we do not publish one here for the same reason we did not for Shop Pay.
Mastercard and Visa each appear on 93.40% of Klarna Checkout domains, Apple Pay on 91.53% and American Express on 83.91%. A checkout page presents these together, and enabling one does not disable another. Any corridor computed from this data would be counting stores that stopped trading, or pages our crawler rendered differently on a later visit, and labelling it competitive displacement. That matches our earlier review of payment corridors across 51 pairs, in which 50 proved to be coexistence and none were migrations.
This is a Shopify story
Shopify appears on 95.76% of Klarna Checkout domains and Cloudflare on 97.65%, the latter being Shopify's own infrastructure rather than a merchant choice. Klarna Checkout is, in practice, a Shopify app installation for the overwhelming majority of these merchants.
Facebook Pixel on 47.38% completes the picture, and it is the most useful row for anyone selling into this list. These are performance-marketing-driven direct-to-consumer retailers acquiring customers through paid social, where instalment options lift conversion on higher-value baskets. Google Tag Manager at 53.86% and Google Analytics at 53.37% both sit below our corpus norm, which is the familiar Shopify pattern of merchants relying on built-in reporting. TechnologyChecker.io publishes 191,675 as a floor on live deployments, and the jump from 88,845 in June reflects our detection reach widening across those months rather than the merchant base doubling.
Frequently Asked Questions
Who uses Klarna Checkout?
Our live crawl finds Klarna Checkout on 191,675 domains, resolving to 47,662 identifiable merchants. Named users include Airbnb, Decathlon, Lululemon, Coach, Tommy Hilfiger, Forever 21 and O'Reilly Auto Parts. The base is small direct-to-consumer retail: 78.88% have ten or fewer employees and retail is the largest industry at 19.54%.
How many customers does Klarna Checkout have?
We detect 191,675 domains running Klarna Checkout across our monthly crawl of live business domains. Company data could be matched for 47,662 of them (24.9%), and every company-size, industry and country breakdown on this page describes that matched subset rather than the full detected base. A further 25,620 domains carried a Klarna Checkout detection previously and no longer do.
What is Klarna Checkout's market share?
Klarna Checkout holds 2.33% of our Payment Processing category and ranks 9th of 50 tracked technologies, immediately behind Stripe at 2.62%. Because a single checkout commonly offers several payment methods at once, these shares overlap and do not sum to a division of payment volume. The figure measures how widely the option is presented to shoppers.
What are the best alternatives to Klarna Checkout?
The top alternatives to Klarna Checkout include PayPal (19.13% market share), Apple Pay (15.46% market share), Shop Pay (14.61% market share), Visa (10.79% market share) — measured as a share of the domains we detect running a platform in this category.
Which countries use Klarna Checkout the most?
United Kingdom leads with 9,659 matched Klarna Checkout domains, followed by Germany (7,869), Italy (3,805), United States (3,783), France (3,692). These are counts within the 47,662 domains we could match to a company record, not the full detected base.
What size companies use Klarna Checkout?
Merchants with 1 to 10 employees are 78.88% of matched companies and 11 to 50 a further 14.86%, so 93.74% have fewer than 50 staff. Only 0.59% employ more than 1,000 people. Large brands such as Lululemon and Coach appear in the named list, but they are the exception in a base dominated by small retailers.
How old are companies that use Klarna Checkout?
The merchant base is young. Companies founded in the 2010s are 40.16% of matched merchants and those founded in the 2020s a further 34.37%, so 74.53% were founded since 2010. Only 4.08% predate 1960, which is consistent with a direct-to-consumer retail population built on modern commerce platforms.
What is the ideal customer profile for Klarna Checkout?
Based on our matched merchant data, the typical Klarna Checkout store belongs to a UK, German or Italian company with fewer than ten employees, founded since 2010, selling apparel, luxury goods or personal care products on Shopify, and running Facebook Pixel for performance marketing. European location is the strongest single predictor.
How many stores use Klarna?
We detect Klarna Checkout on 191,675 domains as of our August 2026 crawl, of which 47,662 match to a named company. This counts storefronts actively loading Klarna's checkout or on-site messaging code, so merchants who have signed with Klarna but not yet deployed it, and deployments behind a login, are not represented.
Which countries use Klarna the most?
The United Kingdom leads with 9,659 matched merchants (20.78%), followed by Germany at 16.93% (7,869), Italy at 8.19% (3,805) and the United States at 8.14% (3,783). France, the Netherlands, Spain and Sweden follow. Klarna is the only major payment method we track where the United States is not the leading market.
What industries use Klarna Checkout most?
Retail leads at 19.54% of matched merchants, with Retail Apparel and Fashion at 10.71%, Retail Luxury Goods and Jewelry at 3.97%, Personal Care Product Manufacturing at 3.05% and Manufacturing at 2.80%. Retail, apparel and luxury together are 34.22%, the discretionary categories where instalment options most affect a purchase decision.
How do you detect Klarna Checkout on a website?
We match several Klarna-specific signals: the ku1-sid and ku1-vid cookies, the KlarnaOnsiteService and _klarnaCheckout JavaScript objects, a Klarna payment button element in the checkout container, script requests to Klarna's service hosts, and a content security policy naming klarnacdn or klarnaservices. Multiple independent signals make a detection reliable.
Is Klarna Checkout the same as Klarna's buy-now-pay-later product?
They are tracked separately in our data, and the distinction matters. This page covers Klarna Checkout, the hosted checkout and on-site messaging suite, at 191,675 domains. A narrower Klarna entry filed under Buy Now Pay Later matches only the Klarna Payments SDK and reaches roughly 900 domains. The two sets barely overlap, so Klarna's real merchant footprint is the one shown here.
Do merchants choose Klarna over PayPal or Apple Pay?
No, and the data is unambiguous. Mastercard and Visa each appear on 93.40% of Klarna Checkout storefronts, Apple Pay on 91.53% and American Express on 83.91%. Checkouts present these methods together rather than choosing one, so we publish no switching table for Klarna Checkout.
What technologies are used alongside Klarna Checkout?
Cloudflare appears on 97.65% of these domains and Shopify on 95.76%, so Klarna Checkout is deployed almost entirely inside the Shopify ecosystem. Facebook Pixel on 47.38% identifies the merchants as performance-marketing-driven, while Google Tag Manager (53.86%) and Google Analytics (53.37%) sit below the corpus norm.
